Extractions: Home Wicca Tattoos Clothing ... Skateboarding BOOK REVIEW Italian Witchcraft by Raven Grimassi Reviewed by Kathryn Lavelle-Lindbom I come from an Irish and Italian background. As a practicing Wiccan, I had always seemed to gravitate towards the Irish, or Celtic side of my culture. I naively thought that would be the only place I would find my pagan roots, the most natural way of worship. Then Suzi asked me to review the book Italian Witchcraft I was pleasantly surprised to find that when I first started on the solo path of Goddess religion, I was already instinctively doing much of the natural practices before ever realizing that this was a part of my heritage and a large part of Witchcraft. It was exciting to find that the other side of my heritage was rich in Pagan tradition as well. This book is about the very ancient practice of Stregheria, or Italian Witchcraft. It seems that Strega pre-dates Celtic Witchcraft by centuries. Stregheria is an extremely passionate form of magick. Those participating in ritual may choose to work sky-clad, or naked. The tools of a Strega, a female Witch, or Stregone, a male Witch, tend to be made from natural elements. The witches wand was their primary tool in all forms of magick. Ritual circles need not be cast for spell casting; a large flat rock would serve as the perfect altar for any Tuscan Witch.

La Vecchia Religione It also serves as a carrier for the tools of stregheria (Italian for Witchcraft). Althoughnot really a tool, it is an important part of stregheria. http://home.att.net/~thewitchinghour/aradia.html
Extractions: La Vecchia Religione In 14th Century Italy a woman who called herself Aradia brought on a revival of La Vecchia Religione (The Old Religion). Originally one Tradition it branched off into three. They are known as Fanarra, Janarra and Tanarra collectively known as The Triad Traditions. Fanarra, centered in Northern Italy are known as Keepers of the Earth Mysteries. Janarra, occupying Central Italy are known as Keepers of the Lunar Mysteries and, Tanarra, also occupying Central Italy are known as Keepers of the Stellar Mysteries. The leaders of each tradition are called Grimas. Each Grimas has a working knowledge of the other two Mystery Traditions. It is each Grimas duty to maintain the integrity of the Tradition and to ensure its survival. Each initiate is trained in the ways of each Tradition. Originally established in North America is a branch of the Tanarra known as the Aradian Tradition. It is based upon a blending of the Triad Traditions in an attempt to restore the original tradition which Aradia had returned to the people. The Aradian name is derived from an old Italian village called Arida. Several of the first followers of Aradia were said to have come from this village. Therefore the name was chosen for its connection to the Old Country.

WEB: http://www.stregheria.com/ The Arician Tradition was founded in 1998 by author Raven Grimassi. It is a blend of modern concepts along with many ancient beliefs and practices that once comprised the religious rites held in the sacred grove of the goddess Diana at Lake Nemi, Italy. The Tradition also incorporates modern adaptations based upon the ancient Mystery Schools of the Aegean/Mediterranean region. The Arician Tradition is an offshoot of the Aridian System, which is a modern Tradition for Americans interested in the Old Religion of Italy. The Arician Tradition is an initiate system as opposed to the Aridian System, which only requires self-dedication. Although as practiced today in its entirety the Arician Tradition is a modern system, it is based largely upon the archaic beliefs and practices of Old Europe. The Arician Tradition is structured as a European Mystery Tradition, teaching and training individuals in the essential concepts of the Old Religion.
About Me This is not just an Italian Witchcraft stregheria site. The focus is not on thereligion of stregheria as much as the practice of Italian earth magic. http://rueskitchen.spiritualitea.net/about_me.htm
Extractions: Back to Abraca-Pocus! Read my blog! T his is not a Stregheria site. That is, you will not find anything here on the religion of Stregheria as defined by Raven Grimassi. Rue's Kitchen is about folklore, natural health and lifestyle as well as practical magic that is easily incorporated into everyday life. It doesn't require any special tools or ingredients. You may already have these in your kitchen! The focus is on the practice of Italian folk magic and natural living. I have been researching and studying all things supernatural and practicing Italian folk magic for a number of years, and can provide clear, concise, accurate guidance in the practice of kitchen witchery and natural health based on knowledge handed down to me from my Italian heritage, decades of study and research as well as some practices I 'cooked up' on my own! I think of my craft as 'user-friendly', as all that is required is items already found in most households, determination, and a vivid imagination. K itchen Witch: You will hear this term every once in a while. This type of witch is one who practices by hearth and home, dealing with the practical side of magic, the earth and the elements. There are some who roll their eyes at this type of terminology, viewing it as degrading or simply inappropriate. Just remember that the Old Religion started somewhere, and most likely the kitchen (or hearth) was the hub of many charms, spells, healings, and celebrations. After all, where does everyone congregate during the holidays? Mamma's kitchen has always produced magical memories for humanity; memories of Mother making that something special to make a sick child feel better still holds true today for many of us.
