Sun Myung Moon ["One who has clarified the Truth"]. Some sources say the organization started in Pusan, not Seoul. Its followers are often called Moonies by persons outside of the Association. However, this term is considered derogatory by its members, who refer to themselves as Unificationists Rev. Moon was born in what is now North Korea in 1920 and was raised in the Presbyterian Church. He is a Professional Engineer by training. When he was 15 years old, at Easter, Jesus Christ appeared to him in a vision, charging him with the responsibility of completing the work in the world that Jesus had started. During his adult life he has had trouble with legal authorities, having been arrested for practicing capitalism (a crime in North Korea), charged (but not convicted) in South Korea of other activities, and convicted of tax evasion in the United States. It was officially founded in 1954 by Sun Myung Moon (which has led to the referring of his followers as "Moonies") and moved to America in 1959, where he established his international headquarters. Born in Korea in 1920, Moon claims that in 1936, when he was 16, Jesus Christ appeared to him on Easter morning on a mountainside in Northwestern Korea and told him that God had chosen him for the mission of establishing the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, a mission that Christ had only begun. Christ supposedly told Moon that he would be "the completer of man's salvation by being the Second Coming of Christ" ( Sun Myung Moon and The Unification Church , James Bjornstad, p. 9). After World War II, Moon returned to Pyongyang, the capital of communist North Korea, where he set up his first church (1945).

It's long history of church-ordained deception, including deceptive recruitment practices makes it a cult according to sociological standards as well. Moon conducted a wedding service in which more than 2000 couples were married. At a subsequent mass wedding, he married 6,500 couples. Discussion revoled around the theology of "Heavenly Deception" and Moon's desire to create a One World Theocracy, or government ruled by religious authority, which Moon believes he and his descendants are destined to rule. Moon's 50-state U.S. tour continues, but not without protest. I was a guest on a large Christian Radio station in Milwaukee , which has taken the lead in exposing the heresies and lies of Moon's teachings and along with several local Pastors. They are encouraging clergy not to allow Moon to speak in their churches. They have successful encouraged one church against allowing Moon to speak there, and Moon's people had to change the location to a hotel ballroom. When the media asked the Unification Church about it, they claimed there had been a bomb threat. The media checked with all local authorities and NO BOMB THREAT had been reported. Possibly more "Heavenly Deception" which allows members of Moon's church to lie and deceive, as long as it is for a "good" purpose. Additionally, it has been reported that a Pastor in Mobile, Alabama was fired for allowing Moon to speak in his church. Moon's teachings and beliefs are contrary to scripture and his influence is like a cancer slowly spreading through the Christian churches.
