A fond look back at childhood in a loving family and church.
Andy Nash remembers things about growing up that the rest of us just forget, 'til we read about it in someone else's book. No Mommie Dearest tale this; Andy gushes and bubbles with warmth toward his parents, his kid sister, his school and his church family. Frankly, I like his sister's sense of humor. She wanted to name the dog "Dairy"; for sure she'd be the only one on the block. Big brother Andy thought that was a dumb name and they named her "Casey". About his parents he says, "Dad and Mom spent very little time looking for sins that we hadn't yet realized--new truths for the purpose of making life difficult." Since we learn parenting skills by osmosis, his kids will be lucky. Andy's good at remembering how kids feel about things, from being dreadfully homesick at camp. to feeling left out when everyone else gets dessert before him at the box social, or lying in bed planning out escape routes should a fire start in the house. Included are essays he wrote before the age of 10, presumably so we can see that he's grown as a writer! He makes liberal use of humorous footnotes (which he raises to an art form) just as he did in the columns for the Adventist Review which make up much of the book. Acknowledges both the strengths and weaknesses of the Seventh Day Adventist church
I admit that I am biassed. I have been reading the Bible, reading books and other material provided by my Seventh Day Adventist friends, and reading books written by people who have left the Seventh Day Adventist church. I love each of the books in the Bible, both Old and New Testament, especially those that I have thoroughly read from beginning to end. I enjoy the fellowship and bible study with my friends yet do not agree with the way that some of my friends seem to have taken some verses out of their original context to prove their beliefs. As I began reading this book "Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-Day Adventists", I felt relaxed as the author acknowledgedmany of the strengths of the Seventh Day Adventist communities. I was looking forward to reading a satisfactory explanation of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, and also the investigative judgment. What I found instead was that by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I will love to obey God's commands. I had already reached the same conclusion myself before reading this book! I felt as though the author Dale Ratzlaff was standing alongside me empathically understanding how uncomfortable I feel about the church doctrine, and encouraging me in my faith in the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

God's Soviet Miracles
I have read this book and just returned from Russia doing some work at this school.This is an excellent book of how God performs miracles!I can't say enough good about it.If you need a boost in your spiritual life, this is a great book to read!The book is well written by the man who was instrumental in getting the school started and it is amazing to read his experience and see his unfailing faith that God had a way to work things out.I loved the book!I love the school and I can't wait to go back! ... Dated but still good for Adventist. I don't know why they took it out of print. I think it was a big todo over nothing. I'm a conservative knowledgeable Adventist and I saw nothing about the book that would cause such an uproar. What is a cult?
If Seventh Day Adventists are a cult then Baptist are a cult, Catholics even more so.

1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP(all churchs fall in this category right?)
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents (same here)
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents(Who defines orthodox?Do orthodox jews consider other jews as cults?)
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator (I guess SDA do fall into this category a bit, but most of the health message ideas come from the Bible.)
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion(Some SDA's fall into this category, but not the church as a whole.Again this applies to people that think their church leader is holy.Some TD Jakes followers, Creflo Dollar, and others.All are sinners saved by Grace).

The SDA church is not a cult....
Listing the Adventist church as a cult is a BIG mistake and shows total ignorance of the doctrines of the church and Bible.

What's funny is, just because the SDA Church differs with mainline christianity, people like to label them a cult. Jesus was put in the "cult leader" category when He was here on earth...by the "religious" MAJORITY.

I would like to submit that if Jesus were on earth today, the majority of even professed Christians would not want Him preaching in thier church. He would not be welcome because He would preach all 10 of the commandments just as God gave them originally....and that includes seventh day Sabbath (saturday) worship.

The SDA church has only tried to bring people back the the Bible, and what always happens is somebody gets thier toes stepped on because they only want to keep 9 (or less) of the 10 commandments...or they dont want to keep them at all.

Fact is, the majority, both christian and non-christian, will never line up with the Bible teachings. The majority always takes the smooth, easy way. Mainline christianity is not following the Bible and points fingers at those who do.

If you want to see a cult, you need to look at the largest church in existence because it is also the largest cult in existence. This one should be easy for anyone to figure out.

Seventh Day Adventists dont teach anything new, we teach what the church reformers taught...that we need to get back to the Bible and not traditions of men. But christianity at large only wants smooth things.

If you want new age teachings then look at "Left Behind" and the Secret Rapture scenario. This was put out by that "cult" church described in revelation as the "Scarlet Harlot"...the "Mother" church.

This was done as the "counter" reformation, to counteract the damage that was done to that antichrist church of Bible prophecy by those who identified her CORRECTLY as the church of Babylon. And the pitiful thing about this is, Protestants, by and large, are teaching the doctinal heresies of the antichrist while thinking they teach the Bible.

If you want to learn truth you need to look elsewhere besides LaHaye, Jenkins, Hal Lindsay and these others who have Left the Truth Behind in thier books and teachings. It's popular but it's not true...it's like a big silly cartoon.

Try the books by Steve Wohlberg called Truth Left Behind or Left Behind Deception, or Exploding the Isreal Deception.

This is an outstanding book and deserves to be widley read, not just by Seventh Day Adventists but by anyone searching for ways to improve their overall health.
