Excerpt: The Christian Catholic Church, later known as the Christian Catholic Apostolic Church, was a religious group founded in 1896 by John Alexander Dowie. They are sometimes called the Zionites (not to be confused with the German Zionites) and were the forerunners of the Zionist Churches of southern Africa. They were noted for their adherence to a flat earth cosmology. Because of Dowie's emphasis on "faith healing", the church is considered by some Pentecostal groups to be one of the forerunners of the modern Pentecostal movement. A unique aspect of the ministry of the Christian Catholic Church was its worldwide appeal in the early 1900s. The church's magazine, The Leaves of Healing, was distributed in the U.S., Australia, Europe, and Southern Africa. As a result large numbers of people joined Dowie's movement. The largest such group is the amaZioni in Southern Africa, who trace their spiritual heritage back to the Christian Catholic Church. The Christian Catholic Church (now called Christ Community Church) continues a relationship with the amaZioni in Southern Africa through Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa or ZEMA. Rare collection of Eastern church law
The Rudder (Greek: Pedalion) is a codification of Orthodox Christian canon law by St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain (1749-1809), first published in Greece in 1800.It was first translated into English by Denver Cummings, working from the fifth Greek edition published in Athens in 1908, and published by the Orthodox Christian Educational Society of Chicago, Illinois, in 1957 under the title of "The Rudder."While far from the only collection of Eastern canon law, it is one of the most readily accessible and well-known collections in English.Never republished, copies of the 1957 edition of The Rudder are scarce and highly sought after.
