Any young man or young woman would enjoy reading this translation.Simply, not complexed, yet has the depths that would challenge the reader to learn more about the basis of the Christian Fatith. Excellent graduation gift
Our church purchased the compact NIVStudent Bible for a young man in our congregation who has graduated from high school and is now going on to college.He was thrilled to receive the Bible to take to school with him in the Fall.The cover is very masculine and rich feeling, and the size of the Bible is perfect.

Great Bible!
I had been looking for a "Bible for life" for quite a while, and just couldn't find anything that satisfied me. I wanted a cool leather cover, a study Bible that had more Bible than "study" to it, and a good version. I found it all in this Bible! The cover is beautiful and stylish, but not overdone or fad-ish. There are lots of helpful study notes within the text and in the back of the book, but the notes and helps don't overwhelm the Scriptural text. And I love and trust the NIV. It is the compact size, which is more of a medium size than anything, but the text is tinier than I'm used to. However, it's not illegible by any means.

The size of the text and thinness of the pages are the only 2 down-sides to it for me, but both of them are nothing that would cause me to buy a different Bible or return it.

Best student study bible out there.
I was super hesitant to get this Bible. I saw the aqua one at borders for $26.xx and came to look on amazon and it was 20 bucks. Still i was hesitant cuz i lean more towards word for word translations like the esv and niv compared to dynamic equivalence translations like the NIV.
However, i'd spent a good amount of time going through the aqua colored edition that i realized this Bible would be great for me. So i decided to get it as my third Bible and use it for the purpose of the learning tools in it.
Good thing is that i found this blue one, there's an orange one too but they are the same as the $20.xx aqua one. Different print dates but both second editions. I even went to the NIV website to look at the pdf chapter onesof each one just to make sure they were the same and it were so i bought it.
I did get here and i'm glad i got this $15 one cuz it's the same as the aqua colored one, the only difference is the price. I mean it's the same thing on the same pages the only difference is the color of the bibles.
I like it, i've been reading it everyday and the dynamic equivalence is not soo different, at least the genesis isn't although when you get to proverbs, you see huge differences that completely change the meaning of the verse so for that, get an esv.
I'm a college student and some of the things i've read soo far does apply to me. I find it to be a great study bible. I spent weeks sitting at borders every afternoon comparing different study bibles. I mean reading differnt chapters and whatever.

If you are crazy about color and are willing to pay $5 extra bucks at amazon or 11 extra borders, get the aqua colored one but just know the extra money you are paying is for the cover of the book. Same things at the exact places in each page but just different color. They're both second editions. Amazon doesn't list it well, this one is also a life application studybible like the aqua one.
Otherwise, buy this one cuz you are going to be glad you did and for the price, it's soo worth it even if you don't like the NIV translation.

Oh, MY five star rating is solely for how good this bible is as a student study bible. It is NOT my rating for the NLT translation.

Addendum:This study does a good job helping me see different angles of chapters i've read 10x or more in my life. I try to read everyday but you know life is for college students. I'm almost done with school and this has been one of the best things i've had living in a crazy city and going attending a big university. If you don't mind the translation, i think it'll be a good gift for a college freshman or high school student who desires a better walk with God. I actually read it alongside the ESV because i've different bible translations and i like to compare certain verses.

I just began reading this, but so far it has been extremely helpful.There are submitted stories from students explaining situations they've been in and how they've applied that certain verse to their life.I've found a few and said wow! thats exactly how I felt and just what I needed to read.I've just recently got back into my relationship with Christ, and in the index of this book it offers exercises for people just accecpting Christ as their Savior, and also helpful tips for people who have a friend who just began their relationship.I'm eighteen and I would say this is a must read for anyone interested in renewing or beginning a relationship with Christ. ... Orange, soft, and a little treasure
I love this Bible. I love the format, the extra information, the people I meet.
This Bible brings new nuances to a weathered Christian. It's a great Bible to be given as a gift. Well worth the money and personally, I find the leather does hold up. Love it!

I love this bible, I love the color, it's so fun.It doesn't seem to be as durable as other leather covers, but it works fine for me.As to the other reviewer ....look at the picture before buying next time, it's pretty much exactly what you get (this is definitely a girls bible:)

NIV Student Bible
I bought this Bible based on the title itself along with the
description that a nice leather cover was there ....I bought
the Bible for a Marine soldier on active duty who is also my
grandson. I was not impressed with the light mint green color of
the leather cover...so did not mail it to him for Xmas ....sent
him a pre-paid long distance card instead.

I guess that I should not have assumed the Bible would have a
"normal" color for the leather covering. You could help by telling
the buyer the color choices upfront or at least ask if it is for
a male vs female recipient.

A Great Place to Start
This study was actually given to me in a beginner Bible Study for adults, those who have never really studied the Bible.Although it is written for 9-12 age it has some great basics about the Bible.It covers what the Bible is, how it came about, it breaks down the Old and New Testament intocatagories, has a great maps, diagrams and charts and even a who's who init.It is a great place to start to find out the basics about the Bibleand how it came to be and what is in it. I am currently leading a class onbasic beliefs and we will use it for teaching.It really is a great placeto get kids to look at the Bible plus have the visual in front of them, thepictures/diagrams help make the stories of the Bible come to life.Thenthey can refer back to it to share with others too!It's nicely done! ... The bible for understanding Christianity
These bibles have been used by our youth and by adults who enjoy the language.It is written as if you were present in the events, and gives a lot of insight into what I think is the way we all should live.Even if you are not Christian, the values & the "rules" are those of civilized people the world over.It is especially good to "teach" with and easy to share with young people.

excellent bible for teens
This Bible really puts what your teen reads in their words and has a section that puts what they have read into a teen type situation that they may come across.Excellent!!!!

Easy to comprehend
I ordered this bible for my 14 year old son who is in confirmation class.He has an NRSV gift bible which he was struggling with.I have the Learning Bible in the CEV edition which I teach bible from and most people I work with find the CEV very refreshing.
The Promise Bible adds all of the cool stuff that student bibles like the Life Application and others have, but it is easier to comprehend than even the NIV which is important for those first studying the bible.I think the CEV also does a better job of keeping with the meaning of the scripture than the bibles I had as a kid like the Good News bible.The research for the CEV is very strong and compares strongly with most commentaries.
I think this is a good bible for teens and a good version for all of us who have a little trouble with the kings english.

Wonderful Illustrations
I purchased the Student Bible for my daughter, and when I took a look at it, I wanted one for myself!It has wonderful illustrations, and historical information, as well as quotes from God inspired men. It brings to light facts that otherwise we would have to investigate ourselves in other places.My daughter loves it and I even purchased one for her friend (well I ordered it for me, but her friend liked it so much that we gave it to her.)

The only downside, is that it is soft cover and the binding is weak, especially for someone who is using it all the time.

Great study tool
The outline of the bible on this page explains why it such a good study tool. And while I am not a student as in high school or college, I am a student of the bible, and that is where this comes in handy. The colorful pictures, and abundant study aides make it a go to source when I study. But, Holman has nothing but the best bibles, imho. and this one does not disappoint.
The pages are a little different, the paper it is made from, and I was afraid they would tear or be more fragile than my other bibles, but the worry was for naught. It is sturdy welcome addition to my library.

CAUTION! Extreme disappointment and a bit of offense!
I was excited about getting this Bible for my daughter for her 7th grade Bible class at school.After it arrived, I asked the principal and teacher if anyone had actually read this Bible before putting it on the book list.Turns out neither had seen this version.The translation has been around a long time and it is a good one for kids.This one has all these "stories" which are quite "edgy" I guess.They do not apply to my daughter's life and I do not appreciate her thinking about these things, which are quite foreign to her, while innocently picking up a Bible.I resent worrying about what is in my daughter's Bible, that's a thought I should never have to entertain!This Bible has stories about sex, pregnancy, cutting, stealing, you name it.I am really offended and this version is going to the thrift store.I hope with God's grace it will find a home with someone who can relate to and benefit from these topics.

It seems wrong to give the Bible less than five stars in any context, but since I am reviewing this specific version, the three stars refer to this book, these stories and topics.I'd actually like to give it zero stars because these particular topics have made it useless to me.A waste of money.I will buy a more appropriate version (same translation) for my child.

Good, but not very deep
I bought this Bible for myself when I was just out of high school. I enjoyed all its features, but found that it really didn't go deep enough. The notes tend to be more superficial and less deep application. Later on I gave the Bible to my sister who has yet to start high school, and as far as I know she's enjoyed it. Revamped Organization Makes This Bible Even Better
This Thompson Student Bible gets it right.The original Thompson Chain reference was a great bible study tool, with many helps, charts, topical studies and archaeological facts.The problem with the former editions, was the editor's insistence of making the reference material available as appendices, and not in context with the text.One might read about the city of Jericho in the book of Exodus, and then see that somewhere on that page where it is mentioned there was a note indicating an archaeological reference was available.But one had to use the "chain" number and then move to the back of the Bible to find the note in the appendices.Now, in this Thompson Student Bible most of the reference material is contextual -- you will find the reference material on the page where the text addresses it first.Students and first time readers of the Bible will read it and benefit from this organization.There won't be that daunting task of figuring out the organization, or the intimidation factor of having to look up all the reference material in the back.Buy this Bible and give it to your teenager, or buy it for yourself.This is a great way to study the scriptures. ... More than expected for price
This resource has helped us so much with our geography studies.Our family is studying ancient history this year and it is excellent for locating the places where we are studying.

tops for quick referencing !
The Student Bible Atlas is excellant for quick referencing when light reading,such as in bed or relaxing in a chair, but for deeper and more intense study, such as sitting at a table or desk, I use the Nelsons or Rose Atlas due to their larger and heavyer sizes. I recommend them all highly.The pictures are all colored and beautiful.

Excellent Bible Atlas
The Student Bible Atlas is a great reference source for your personal Bible Study.Maps are clear, concise, colorful and easy to understand. I've owned it for several years and often refer to it when studying history and the Bible.

My daughter and I love this atlas!Very easy to use, even for a child..it is full of colorful maps and easy to read details.We use it for both school and personal bible study.

The Student Bible Atlas
I have been looking for just this kind of atlas for my 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class.The main thing I like about it is that it uses the same map of Israel and shows it at the various periods.Most atlases and Sunday School curricula show various maps instead of one map that changes over time.I liked the comparison maps of the empires.The comments and illustrations with each map are also useful. ... Great Bible for youth and teenagers
