not much help
There is not much out there on this subject, which makes this book is a disappointment. It is a collection of essays, including many written by Hungarian scholars and translated into English.In some cases, the English translation appears rough and hurried, and one gets the sense the original essayist's meaning is somewhat obscured.One chapter is written entirely in French.This is a handsome volume, and nicely laid out, and it does supply a need for a work on the apocryphal acts of Peter; but as to content there is much here that is obscure and forgettable.Not counting the chapter in French and the index, this is a 191-page paperback which offers little help at an enormous price. ... My opinion of these author's is of the utmost discuss.How can someone write about their healing and their fullness of life, they have captured and have embraced, when in all reality......They HATE. Hatred of those that have inspired them and HATRED of all gifts that have been given to them.The thought of these pages and these, "from the heart" of the author blah, blahs, makes me sick to know that you can be published, because they have No Heart.When you can praise someone for their inspiration in one book and then wish them dead on a daily basis, and have so expressed it, in many emails to an individual, whom I will not name, you are WRONG.Your SOUL is LOST and if I may be the one, to bear the news to you, it may NEVER be found.

The first monograph in the series, it studies the Acts of John in its second-century context and sheds new light on the text, which was probably written in Asia Minor before the year 150 AD. Lalleman shows that both the Gnostic and the non-Gnostic sections of the Acts of John owe much more to the canonical books of the New Testament than has been assumed. The enigma of the Gnostic section is solved by the discovery that it forms the second stage of initiation into a Gnostic form of Christianity.
