A truely inspiring story written in a way which draws the reader into the compassion felt by Marie Hamilton. This is a book for anyone with a passion for healing of the human spirit.

A wonderful book.
This is a great book. It is the perfect example of what can be accomplished when people look for the humanity in all of us. Even the worst of us can still have that spark of decency and caring and dignity, rekindled. Every warden in every prison should read this story.
What a world this could be if more people could reach this level of transcendence.

Idealism is powerful and doable
Marie Hamilton's life puts flesh on aphorisms we love to trot out (Love your enemies.There is that of God in every person. Be the change you want to see.) but have a hard time envisioning in the messiness and ambiguities of real life.Maybe peacemaking is not an idealistic notion that can't be sustained when confronted with evil.Perhaps nonviolence is more powerful that we know.Certainly it is when Marie Hamilton is wielding it!This book would be an interesting choice for book clubs, religious groups, and young people whose ideas about the world and what part they want to play in it are still being formed.Pat Hunt, Chaplain, Mary Baldwin College, Staunton VA. ... Wonderful photography
Kristin Capp is a wonderful photographer. We had a show which included some of her work, including photographs taken at the Hutterite community; whether as social commentary or simply as art, Capp captures essentials. A beautiful book.

The photographs calm your spirit like a meditation.
This is a book to return to over and over again. I've opened it in the midst of a hectic, demanding day and the clean black and white images made me feel refreshed and hopeful. The photographs embody a kind of peace I think we all yearn for.
