Book Description
Edith was inspired to conduct objective historical research about the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) church after a brief encounter with an SDA friend who said, “You know what they say about Adventists.” A brief conversation changed her life forever. Since Edith didn’t know, she was impressed to find out. Two days later, while searching the internet she saw a heading—“Seventh-Day Adventism Reexamined”—and clicked on the topic hoping to see what was being said about SDAs. Finding astonishing information, she decided to check it out by doing objective research about the SDA church to determine whether what she found was from disgruntled former SDAs criticizing the church, or whether the concerns were valid. This book presents her findings, some of her experiences as an active SDA member for over twenty-six years, and relates why she and her family left Adventism and now embrace mainstream Christianity. ... Product Description
The authors have developed a great concern for the terrible carnage of members in the Church. When they were children in Australia there was great concern because 30% of children born into the Seventh-day Adventist homes were choosing to walk away from the Church.By the time they reach into their twenties, they learned that 50% of such young people left the Church. However several years ago they were staggered that a value-genesis study revealed the startling fact that 81% of the church's youth were abandoning the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Australia and New Zealan. They also learned that an alarming number of members who had been added through evangelistic outreach soon thereafter walk away from the Seventh-day Adventist. The authors discovered that there were many different ways that Satan has found to achieve this deplorable situation. They address divine solutions to this dilemma. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars SDA beliefs reviewed
This book is a "no nonsense" review of the beginnings and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

1-0 out of 5 stars HA HA
Sometimes I have my doubts about the SDA church and I question about the people not the doctrines of the church. First of all SDA's is a recognized denomination like Baptist, Methodist, Catholics, and etc. Our world headquarters is in the Washington D.C. area so we are recognized by many political leaders and US Presidents. To give you a sign of relief we stay out of the political arena in Washington because we strongly believe in the separation of church and state.

Point B. Heaven will be a place for all people not for a specific religion because there are saints in all religions. Including non Christians, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, Atheists, or people who never heard the word Jesus. PERIOD!

C: Ellen White was a sweet lady who never put her writings above the Bible. Is the peoples fault who twist her writings and that is the main cause for some cultish SDA churches.

D: I was a Roman Catholic including my parents. If we never knew about the SDA church then our health would be different.

To uphold the U.S. Constitution I am not going to force anyone to accept the Sabbath day but here is a reason why I do in a non religious way.
I am a college student and a small business owner. I have stress during the week. I just need one day to set aside everything and relax. Even when I graduate my workload is going to increase because I'll be a professional person. So hey I don't want any chronic diseases.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's all about his saving grace.
I have not had the opportunity to read the book but I was browsing Amazon and the title and reviews caught my eye. This does not in anyway describe the Adventist church that I have been apart of for 35 of my 39 years. I was educated in in Adventist schools and in my heart I do believe that the adventist church is the remnant church. We do not in any way, shape, or form acknowlege Ellen White over the awesome authority of Jesus christ. We do believe Ellen White to be a prophet, and is definitely inspired, key word, INSPIRED. Ellen White time and time again refers the reader to the holy sciptures. She does not by any means attempt to challenge or belittle the authority of Christ. Yes I do read the writings of Ellen White and I do believe she was a prophet of Christ, and the bible teaches us that we are saved by grace alone so that know man can boast! What an awesome God! In essence, know individual can work his way into heaven, including Ellen G. White. I believe all religious material should be prayfully approached so that the holy spirit can reveal the truth.Perhaps the writer needs to examine himself before writing on a subject that he clearly is clueless about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book Which Illuminates
This is an excellent review of the beliefs of Seventh Day Adventism. From believing that Ellen Harmon White was a prophet, that Christ was Michael the Archangel(what a pernicious heresy!), to soul-sleep, the Sabbath, and the whole nine yards of Adventism, revealing it for what it is: a nineteenth century cult, based on works, with many beliefs coinciding with the Russellite movement=falsely prophecying dates for the end of the world, etc... A small, excellent work.

3-0 out of 5 stars SDAs are not themselves false prophets, but . . .
Having been a devout and believing SDA for the first 35 years of my life, having gone through 16 years of SDA education, and having been a genuinely sincere and earnest educator in the SDA college system, I feel that I can speak with a fair level of credibility about what Adventists believe.

Most practicing Adventists are so overwhelmed by their somewhat closed culture that they are not easily able see just how warped their thinking is.They are generally unable to recognize that theirs is a cult culture. If by the term "cult" one refers to a group (a) that filters all of its religious thinking through a single personality (Ellen White), and (b) that centers its faith around non-biblical doctrines (e.g., the elaborate SDA doctrine of the heavenly sanctuary), based on that personality's visions, then it's difficult to see how the SDA culture is anything other than a cult.

This doesn't make all Adventists false prophets, however, which is what the title of this book appears to insinuate. They are neither "false" nor "true" prophets; they are just true believers who (from my point of view) are frozen in a dead and discredited set of beliefs, that even during the nineteenth century were considered strange. To assume the legitimacy of the term "false prophet" presumes a set of beliefs I no longer find viable, but to the extent that the term has meaning for some, I think that E.G. White is a good candidate for being one.I think a more apt title for the book might have been Is Sister White a False Prophet?

I would be surprised if any non-SDA who reads about her life and her work as an SDA believes that she is a "true prophet" in the way that SDAs characterize her. However, the true believers inside the SDA fold appear to be completely unable to see her any other way. ... Read more

Book Description
The ebooks in our Cults series compares the teaching of various major religious groups with basic fundamental Biblical doctrine. They are not designed to ridicule or scorn the teaching of those who differ in their faith and doctrine, but to examine the teaching of groups who claim to either hold to orthodox Biblical Christian doctrine or who claim that their movements accommodate Biblical Christianity. Available material was researched and leading people interviewed, where possible. The conclusions drawn in this ebook about the Seventh Day Adventist movement are based on information made available and every effort has been made to present the material as accurately as possible. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars What is a cult?
If Seventh Day Adventists are a cult then Baptist are a cult, Catholics even more so.

Main Entry: cult
Pronunciation: 'k<
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: French & Latin; French culte, from Latin cultus care, adoration, from colere to cultivate -- more at WHEEL
1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP(all churchs fall in this category right?)
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents (same here)
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents(Who defines orthodox?Do orthodox jews consider other jews as cults?)
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator (I guess SDA do fall into this category a bit, but most of the health message ideas come from the Bible.)
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion(Some SDA's fall into this category, but not the church as a whole.Again this applies to people that think their church leader is holy. Some TD Jakes followers, Creflo Dollar, and others. All are sinners saved by Grace).

1-0 out of 5 stars The SDA church is not a cult....
Listing the Adventist church as a cult is a BIG mistake and shows total ignorance of the doctrines of the church and Bible.

What's funny is, just because the SDA Church differs with mainline christianity, people like to label them a cult. Jesus was put in the "cult leader" category when He was here on earth...by the "religious" MAJORITY.

I would like to submit that if Jesus were on earth today, the majority of even professed Christians would not want Him preaching in thier church. He would not be welcome because He would preach all 10 of the commandments just as God gave them originally....and that includes seventh day Sabbath (saturday) worship.

The SDA church has only tried to bring people back the the Bible, and what always happens is somebody gets thier toes stepped on because they only want to keep 9 (or less) of the 10 commandments...or they dont want to keep them at all.

Fact is, the majority, both christian and non-christian, will never line up with the Bible teachings. The majority always takes the smooth, easy way. Mainline christianity is not following the Bible and points fingers at those who do.

If you want to see a cult, you need to look at the largest church in existence because it is also the largest cult in existence. This one should be easy for anyone to figure out.

Seventh Day Adventists dont teach anything new, we teach what the church reformers taught...that we need to get back to the Bible and not traditions of men. But christianity at large only wants smooth things.

If you want new age teachings then look at "Left Behind" and the Secret Rapture scenario. This was put out by that "cult" church described in revelation as the "Scarlet Harlot"...the "Mother" church.

This was done as the "counter" reformation, to counteract the damage that was done to that antichrist church of Bible prophecy by those who identified her CORRECTLY as the church of Babylon. And the pitiful thing about this is, Protestants, by and large, are teaching the doctinal heresies of the antichrist while thinking they teach the Bible.

If you want to learn truth you need to look elsewhere besides LaHaye, Jenkins, Hal Lindsay and these others who have Left the Truth Behind in thier books and teachings. It's popular but it's not true...it's like a big silly cartoon.

Try the books by Steve Wohlberg called Truth Left Behind or Left Behind Deception, or Exploding the Isreal Deception.

5-0 out of 5 stars informative

4-0 out of 5 stars Acknowledges both the strengths and weaknesses of the Seventh Day Adventist church
I admit that I am biassed. I have been reading the Bible, reading books and other material provided by my Seventh Day Adventist friends, and reading books written by people who have left the Seventh Day Adventist church. I love each of the books in the Bible, both Old and New Testament, especially those that I have thoroughly read from beginning to end. I enjoy the fellowship and bible study with my friends yet do not agree with the way that some of my friends seem to have taken some verses out of their original context to prove their beliefs. As I began reading this book "Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-Day Adventists", I felt relaxed as the author acknowledgedmany of the strengths of the Seventh Day Adventist communities. I was looking forward to reading a satisfactory explanation of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, and also the investigative judgment. What I found instead was that by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I will love to obey God's commands. I had already reached the same conclusion myself before reading this book! I felt as though the author Dale Ratzlaff was standing alongside me empathically understanding how uncomfortable I feel about the church doctrine, and encouraging me in my faith in the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
The author seems to me to have used the Bible quotations in the correct context. ... Read more
