4-0 out of 5 stars Astonishing
This book was published 99 years after the closed-door talks given by C G Harrison (no one seems to know who he is) in 1893 before the Berean Society (also couldn't find out what this is but Harrison said it is an association of Christian esotericists).

Harrison gave the talks after the publication of AP Sinnett's Esoteric Buddhism. I realised that he has not read the Mahatma Letters which was only published in 1923. That's why I am astonished at what he knew. Is he a chela, I wonder? Is there really 'Esoteric Christianity'? And where is the Berean Society today?

I agree that Christopher Bamford wrote a very good introduction, without which most readers wouldn't be able to understand the background of the lectures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and Difficult
For a neophyte, I found Transcendental Universe both enlightening and difficult. The Introduction by Christopher Bamford was extremely helpful in placing these lectures in an intelligible context, giving background to the Theosophical Society, and the history of occult mysteries in general. The first three lectures were very helpful as further instruction in occult exercises. The latter three lectures were very difficult going, covering the intricacies of the evolution of consciousness relative to the hierarchies of spiritual beings.

Well worth reading and meditating on.

5-0 out of 5 stars ATreasure-Trove of 19th century Esoteric Knowledge
Mandatory reading for any serious student on the path of esoteric knowledge. Harrison illumines the reader and sets the record straight on the secrets of Spiritualism, Theosophy, secret brotherhoods etc. Christopher Bamford does a masterful job as well in the introduction to thebook. Further recommended reading for advanced students of esotericknowledge are:"ZELATOR"; "KYBALLION"; and the booksof Rudolph Steiner. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars S. King horror or childish nightmare?
I wasn't sure if this was from a S. King writing or some child night mare of a writing!

It's obvious that any one can write then have that book published.

Only the most outrageous of imagination could come with this fairy tale type of fantasia.

Sorry, but the author is searching for the truth in the wrong place! you Know?

5-0 out of 5 stars Amplifies Theosophic Tenets Admirably!
Jinarajadasa dedicated his entire lifetime to "the work" and this 500 page plus tome is a monument to his dedication and ability to share these important principles with us.A masterpiece of Theosophic philosophy! ... Read more

Product Description
Many readers of Guénon's later doctrinal works have longed to hear the tale of his earlier entanglement, and disentanglement, from the luxuriant undergrowth of so-called esoteric societies in late nineteenth-century Paris and elsewhere. The present work documents in excoriating detail Guénon's findings on what did, and did not, lie behind the Theosophical Society founded by Madame Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott in 1875. Much further information has of course come to light since this book was written, but it has never been superseded as a fascinating record of the path of a master metaphysician through this maze. A particularly unusual feature is its extensive treatment of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, which has recently attracted the attention of scholars of the occult. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Some tangential issues are not researched properly
Note to the authors: Bô Yin Râ had nothing to do with "theosophy", "White Lodge", etc. The footnote on p. 131 which mentions him is factually incorrect and betrays at once the authors never consulted the easily obtainable original sources. The footnote is — in the immortal words of the physicist Wolfgang Pauli — "not even wrong". One might have equally well claimed Albert Einstein was mostly known for his work as a dentist. ... Product Description
The title of this book, Wisdom in Action, indicates the slightly different emphasis in this second volume of Raghavan Iyer's HERMES essays than the fi rst volume, The Dawning of Wisdom. In truth, these jeweled essays in Buddhi Yoga could be gathered together into any number of confi gurations simply because the writings themselves are so multifaceted and universal in scope. As they embody Universal Good, so too they lend themselves to the purposes of the highest good under whatever name or form. The constant, underlying theme of all these essays is the crucial need for unconditional devotion to Universal Good as a prerequisite for traveling on the spiritual Path. There is simply nothing else that can serve as a substitute for the highest of noble motives for living the spiritual life. But these writings also bear upon the crucial and thorny problem of translating theoria into praxis, and they shed a pristine light upon the obstacles and diffi culties encountered by every aspirant who self-consciously chooses to tread the Path of Renunciation. ... 1894. This work records outlines of some of the more important doctrines of the Theosophical philosophy, which several years' personal instruction from Madame Blavatsky and a study of her works has taught the author. Well-knowing how many there are whose purity and independence of thought forbid their acceptance of any of the various religious dogmas, and who are yet too spiritually minded to descend to a materialistic view of existence, he has written it in the hope that it may be read by a few whom other theosophical works have failed to reach; and as a slight tribute to the memory of one who made more sacrifices to humanity than the age can ever appreciate. ...
