About 3 miles south of Wonder Lake. It is in a yard of a home. There is a near by 6 acre prairie. The only open water for about a mile is the residence 2000 gallon cement fish and plant pond. There is a road 40 yards from the box. This is one of 12 bird feeders on the property. This yard is also home to Blue Birds ,Wrens, Cedar Waxwings and Hummingbirds. Comments or suggestions

Extractions: Order: Struthioniformes or Casuariiformes Emus are members of a group of large, flightless birds. Only one species surives today of Australia; related emus on Tasmania and Kangaroo Island were extinct by the early 19th century. Excluding the ostrich, the emu is the largest of all birds with a height of 6 ft and a weight of 130 lb. The wings of the emu are mere rudiments found beneath the coarse hairlike feathers of the body. The plumage is dull brown. It is darker on the head, neck, and middle of the back and lighter on the undersides. The naked parts of the head and neck are grayish-blue while the bill and feet are brown. The emu inhabits the open plains and brush of Australia where it feeds chiefly upon roots, fruits, and herbage. The bird is peaceful, timid and capable of running at considerable speed to elude attackers. Emus normally breed as pairs. The hen can be reproductive for as long as 20 years, laying between 20 to 50 eggs in a single season. It places its eggs (dark green color and about 4 in long) in a scooped-out hole in the ground. Incubation takes almost two months and is performed entirely by the male, who also cares for the chicks. Emus are currently raised throughout the United States and have adapted to challenging conditions as the frigid winters of North Dakota to the harsh heat of southern Texas.

All pheasants, except the Congo Peafowl are native to Asia, but other species have been introduced elsewhere. The most populer species is the common pheasant, often refered to as the Ring-necked Pheasant because of the white ring around the neck of males. The pheasant originally was brought into Europe by the Romans. A ring-necked Chinese race came into North America around the late 18th century, and was later introduced in Europe.There is also a Black-necked Pheasant from Europe that was later introduced in North America. Male pheasants are very colorful in order to attract females for breeding. Females are usually brown or black in color for better camoflage when nesting in their roost. Pheasants do best in open country and are especially abundant in the grainfields of North America. They are also found in the Eastern states all the way down to North Carolina. In North America and Europe many pheasants are bred on game farms and released for hunting. As many as 15 or more species of pheasant are considered endangered or threatened. There were some 70 species of birds found nowhere else in the world, more than a third of them were flightless and almost a quarter of them nocturnal. The early European explorers and naturalists likened New Zealand to a lost Arcadia, the Garden of Eden before the Fall. Using proper terminology, birds are avian dinosaurs; other dinosaurs are non-avian dinosaurs, and (strange as it may sound) birds are technically considered reptiles . Overly technical?
