Extractions: The Metates gold deposit in northwest Durango, Mexico, contains over 800 million metric tons of mineralized rock (0.62 ppm Au, 15 ppm Ag, 0.2% Zn) hosted by a quartz latite body and enclosing marine clastic sedimentary package. Mineralization is spatially related to an Early- Cretaceous concordant body of porphyritic quartz latite (107 Ma, U/Pb). The enclosing 500 m sequence of dark shales (argillites), greywackes and conglomerates may represent marine turbidites deposited in a back-arc basin. Mesozoic rocks are deformed and unconformably overlain by unmineralized Tertiary volcanics. The latite body strikes northwest for more than a kilometer, and dips 30 degrees northeast; maximum thickness is about 300 meters. Massive latite is overlain by a heterolithic breccia, characterized by igneous and sedimentary matrix alternating at meter scale. Bedding within 20 meters of the upper and lower contacts is sheared and contorted. Contact metamorphism is absent. The latite may be a shallow syn-sedimentary sill, with peperite at the upper contact. Alternatively, the breccia may represent a debris flow overlying a submarine latite flow or dome. Syngenetic lamellae of framboidal pyrite are present within the sedimentary rocks. Epigenetic veins include: (1) pyrite +/- chalcopyrite; (2) pyrite- arsenopyrite- +/- quartz +/- chalcopyrite; (3) sphalerite- pyrite- galena- siderite- quartz; and (4) quartz- pyrite +/- sphalerite. Sulfur isotope data suggest a magmatic sulfur source for vein sulfides. A magmatic fluid component is compatible with moderate salinity fluid inclusions (>5 wt % NaCl eq), and pervasive alteration of the quartz latite to sericite- quartz- pyrite. Pervasive silicification is common, but veins are nearly free of silicate minerals. Alteration in the sheet-silicate-rich sedimentary units presents as replacement of clays and feldspars by sericite.

Both Kunami and Luise have suffered sector collapse due to gravitational instability as the slopes became unsupported due to their relatively rapid growth. Download full text Luise caldera is 3 x 5.5 km in diameter and hosts an active geothermal field and one of the world's largest and youngest deposits of gold (43 million ounces). The gold deposit named Ladolam, was discovered in 1982. The deposit contains 600 tonnes of Au in the upper 300m of the deposit. This is approximately 3 times the amount of gold extracted from the California Motherlode and placer operations combined.

Extractions: Yukon Geology Program Since 1991 gold exploration in Yukon has become increasingly focused on intrusion-related gold systems associated with Tombstone plutonic suite intrusions, mainly as a result of discoveries and production from the Fort Knox mine in Alaska and the Brewery Creek mine in Yukon. Exploration was further catalysed by the discovery of the Pogo deposit and the knowledge of its association with Cretaceous plutons. In the past decade, approximately $150 million dollars has been expended on Yukon gold exploration. Yukon's Cretaceous plutonic suites were previously recognized for their associated tungsten, copper, and tin occurrences. Occurrences of silver-lead (Keno Hill, Plata) were assumed to be associated with the plutons. More recently, gold and emerald occurrences have been discovered in associations with the granitoids, thus making these rocks prodigious mineralizers. In addition to Brewery Creek, Dublin Gulch, Scheelite Dome and Clear Creek are among the larger and better explored systems, and are more strongly associated with the 93 ± 1 Ma Tombstone Plutonic Suite which spans 700 km across Yukon.

These rocks are of the Cretaceous period and assigned to the Valdez Group. A formation which hosts numerous lode and placer gold deposits. The Valdez Group stretches from Kodiak Island to the south side of the Alaska Mountain Range. The broad U shaped valleys of the Kenai Mountains were subjected to alpine glaciation in Quaternary time. The large prominent benches along Resurrection Creek consist of material deposited in a short period at the end of the regions last glaciation. These sediments consist of mostly un-stratified and poorly sorted sand and gravel with a few boulders dispersed in it. Because of the rapid deposition the eroded gold was not concentrated, but was distributed throughout the material. A subsequent drop in relative sea level resulted in streams cutting down into the post glacial gravels to form the present valleys, in the process reworking the gravels and concentrating the gold. On some of the Hope Mining Company properties the gold concentrations are related to a "false bed rock" of yellow-gray glacial clay. This clay layer is of varying thickness and overlays unsorted gravel of relatively the same age and composition. Above the clay layer is a well sorted Quaternary gravel with huge boulders siting right on the clay. Gold occurs throughout the gravel above the clay layer, but the highest pay is in the eighteen inches just above the clay. As you would expect under a big boulder on the clay is found the best gold.

Extractions: F or most people, the mention of gold prospecting is likely to evoke an image of men in slouch hats and western garb, armed with goldpan, pick and shovel and accompanied by a trusty burro packed with supplies for several months in the wilderness. As we know from film and novels, these hardy fellows spend much of their lives combing the hills, for that vein of precious yellow metal which will make them rich. In reality, the modern western prospector typically works for a salary, discovery or not, and he is likely to wear a baseball cap with a company logo. He uses a four-wheel- drive vehicle instead of a burro, usually stays in motels, and his prospecting tools include topographic maps, a plastic garden trowel, cloth bags, compass and tape measure. Even more incongruously, the modern prospector almost never sees the gold he is searching for, even when his work result in a major discovery and the opening of a mine.
