CHU Time Synchronization For Linux
Software to synchronize a Linux system to the Canadian CHU shortwave station.

Extractions: CHU is a time-standard shortwave radio station operated by National Research Council Canada (NRC). This software uses signals from radio station CHU to set and frequency discipline the system clock on a Linux based system. Technical details of the CHU time signal can be found on the NRC's web page at http://www.nrc.ca/inms/time/ctse.html The software, in source code, can be download from the following places: First, plug a shortwave receiver tuned to CHU into your sound card. Then, use a cron table entry to run the chu program periodically (one every 15 minutes is good). I use a cron table entry that looks like this: 5,20,35,50 * * * * /sbin/chu -l:300 -d:2946>> /var/log/chu.log This also records a bunch of information in the file /var/log/chu.log , such as the time of last correction, and misc. details of the how it was computed. Any data decoded from the CHU Broadcast Codes is also logged here.
