For program rules and additional information, contact your local Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly SCS) office for additional information. What is the Wetlands Reserve Program? The Wetlands Reserve Program is a voluntary program offering landowners a chance to receive payments for restoring and protecting wetlands. There are three options giving landowners more flexibility in managing their land. Eligible land can be entered into permanent easements, 30 year easements, or restoration cost-share agreements. Permanent easements have been offered in previous WRP sign-ups and are offered again with no change. Thirty year easements are similar to permanent easements, however, the easements will expire at the end of 30 years. Restoration cost share agreements , do not have a land payment and do not involve recorded easements, however there is financial assistance for wetland restoration practices. Payment for land entered into WRP easements will be based on the lesser of three values: Permanent Easements: 1) The geographical area rate cap

Using greenhouses to enhance the growth of bacteria, algae, plants and aquatic animals, wastewater flows through a series of clear-sided tanks, engineered streams, and constructed marshes where contaminants are metabolized or bound up. The technology has been applied to treatment of sewage, septage, boat waste, and ice cream processing waste. The Solar Aquatics process combines ecological engineering principles with standard wastewater treatment concepts. By combining the biological components that work in natural water purification processes with proven wastewater treatment practices, the Solar Aquatics process provides an enhancement on natural and conventional treatment processes. The Solar Aquatics process uses fixed film substrate in the forms of plant roots and Solar Tank surfaces. The process also uses suspended growth biomass within the wastewater moving through the system. The process further combines an element of activated sludge by recycling a portion of secondary sludge to the headworks Blending Tank for reseeding bacteria. The result is a controlled ecological system that maximizes biological degradation of contaminants. The ecosystems that are developed provide a higher degree of biodiversity than other biological treatment technologies, thereby treating a wider range of contaminants and providing a more stable and resilient system.

    Extractions: Ilex verticillata Commonly found in fresh tidal swamps, shrub swamps, and forested wetlands, this slow growing (1 ft. or less per year) broad-leaved, deciduous shrub can grow to a height of 6 to12ft. The Winterberry is dioecious, possessing male and female flowers on separate individual plants. The greenish to white flowers bloom in early to late June. Produced in late August through February, the red to orange berries offer a vivid display after a winter snowfall. The berries provide an important food source for several species of birds (most notable the cedar waxwing), waterfowl, rabbit, squirrel, and deer. Preferring partial to full shade, the hardy Winterberry is fairly insensitive to disease, insect, and wind or ice damage, and tolerates both acidic and alkaline soils (pH 4.5-8.0). It can be found from Newfoundland to Minnesota, south to Georgia and Mississippi, and west to Missouri and Texas. In the Northeast the Winterberry is classified as a facultative wetland (FACW+) species. Looking for something to do on Thursday evenings this winter, look no further.
