5-0 out of 5 stars Uncanny Interpretations
If you are an astrologer, amateur or semi-professional, this little handbook gives lots of information based upon classical interpretation of the Moons Nodes in both signs and houses. A worthwhile addition to any astrological library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic work in the area of Karmic Astrology
I used to own this entire series until a certain nasty hurricane destroyed my astrology collection! This and his book on the Part of Fortune were tomes that I used frequented and are still worth owning even years later. When these were published few astrologers were taking the nodes seriously. Today they are a main staple in many branches of astrology from Synastry to Progressions and Solar returns. Grab this book at these basements prices but you may also want to check out the new node book by Celeste Teal that covers them in the above mentioned areas.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books of karmic astrology
I recommend this book to astrologer who has inclinations towards karmic astrology. It explains what means the Moon's Node in each house and sing y what lesson the native has to learn in the life. It it worth reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BookDeservesMoreThanFiveStars
This handle little reference guide explians the Moon's Nodes (Dragon's Head and Dragon's Tail) and how lessons of the past effect who were are and what we do today.Indeed this book is an absolutely "must have" in any astrologer's bookshelf. The book explains the Moon's North and South Nodes as they move through the signs and houses better than other book I have read on the subject. The clients receive profound information that will have far reaching positive impact on their lives. The other books in the series will go into my Astrological Library too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Moon's Nodes & Reincarnation
I found this author to be very specific re: the nodes and their stimulation of certain personality quirks/strengths.Speaking as a non-astrologer, I found the material to be well-written and informative.I plan to read as many books by this author as I can get my hands on, in order to more deeply understand myself and my chart. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Positive Reference Book on Medical Astrology
As a trainee astrologer, I have long resisted reading anything about medical astrology in case it scared me too much! This is a great first book to read on the subject and makes you re-think your views on health and ill-health. It is a very readable, comprehensive reference book for someone with some prior knowledge of the basics of astrology, for example the planets, houses and aspects as well as the signs of the zodiac. The reference material is superb and I found that the correspondences between my medical history and the main features of my birth chart were spookily accurate.
The author describes the main function of medical astrology as the identification of the underlying astro-dynamic patterns that link mind and body, and the tackling of the inherent issues of which the outer symptoms are a physical manifestation.
There is a fascinating section on Decumbiture Charts, a traditional method of diagnosis & therapy based on the time a person takes to their bed with an illness. Also, the book contains much practical guidance on therapy sessions using medical astrology. There is no attempt to replace the medical team but rather to complement them. The author describes how the process works - changing the relationship between ourselves and our more difficult features through awareness and what she describes as an "upgrading" - transforming these into new more positive ways of expression that bring healing.
The astrological correspondences of illnesses and remedies including herbs, plus a full bibliography of further reading ensure that this will be a much used reference book.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I knew this book was going to be something special, but I was overwhelmed with how special this book is. It is detailed, thorough, filled with information every healer should know (traditional and modern healers). This book will become one of my most prized reference book and I will be purchasing more as gifts for just about everyone I know.

5-0 out of 5 stars An astrological textbook
This book is quite detailed and technical so I would say best suited to serious students of astrology. They however will be rewarded by giving due attention to this book as Noel knows his stuff through and through and is very generous in his sharing of his knowledge with others. This is a man who has done thousands of charts and systematically tracked clients through time as they grow and change.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book but not practical enough
I was looking for something more specific, exact and this book is good for
astrologers may be but not too helpful for readers. For example, the word "communications" is given as a key word to almost any vocation possible, leaving you with no practical example how to relate "communicatins" with your other trends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vocations: The New Midheaven Extension Process
Noel Tyl's newest book, Vocations: The New Midheaven Extension Process, is a great book that is well written and easy to understand. His techniques are explained in detail and the book is loaded with lots of examples. His technique re-defines an old topic of vocational astrology. His accuracy is uncanny. If you don't have the means & time to attend one of his seminars, this book is the next best thing to being there in person!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to locate the vocational profile in a horoscope
Noel Tyl's VOCATION: SPECIAL TOPICS IN ASTROLOGY tells how to locate the vocational profile within a horoscope: a notoriously hard task astrologers often struggle over. This is not just a review of the problems: practicing professional astrologer Tyl has developed his own process - the Midheaven Extension Process - and tested its results to provide a new page to the vocational astrology application. It's a lesson plan other astrologers will relish. ... Read more

Product Description
A contemporary and practical guide to Mayan astrological techniques

• Discusses the logic and meaning of the 20 day-signs of the Mayan calendar

• Explains the many cycles of Mayan astrology, such as the 9-day cycle of the Night Lords and the 13-day trecena

• Contains extensive tables of Mayan astrological data, allowing readers to cast their own Mayan horoscopes

How to Practice Mayan Astrology presents a contemporary guide to one of the most sophisticated astrological systems ever developed. Like other ancient peoples, the Maya looked to the cycles of the planets as markers of time and designators of order. The predictable cycles they observed became codified in the Mayan calendar and astrological system as a way of organizing the seeming chaos of human life.

Mayan astrology is based on 20 named days that are cycled 13 times to create a 260-day calendar, the Tzolkin. The authors explain the symbolism, logic, and meaning of the 20 day-signs; how these signs reflect 260 possible personality types; and how they can be used for divination. They also explain the important role of the Four Directions and the planet Venus in one’s personality matrix and life issues. Included are extensive, easy-to-use tables of Mayan astrological data, allowing readers to determine their day-signs, to see how these signs are also influenced by the cycle of the Night Lords and the 13-day trecena, and to cast their own horoscopes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, A Highly Useful & Enlightening Masterpiece
As a fulltime psychic astrologer for over 36 years who has studied and used Western, Chinese, Hindu, and Native American Astrology to help over fifty thousand clients from all walks of life, I find this book to be remarkable in every respect.Deep, informative, fun, easy to read, incredibly meaningful, with a terrific one hundred year ephemeris attached that will enable you to "read" all your friends and family with much insight and amazement.

Within hours of reading it, I had much greater insight into the lives of my clients than through any other single source. It makes me think that Mayan astrology is the core astrology of all astrologies, revealing the soul energies of human beings as no other system; yet, as an adjunct to all the other world systems serves as a catalyst that "leavens the whole loaf."

Suffice to say, I am now ordering every book I can on Mayan Astrology with fond anticipation. And I strongly recommend that any astrologer seeking more wisdom, or any human seeing more insight, buy and read this book immediately.

5-0 out of 5 stars New and entertaining
This book was quite an easy and fun read! It, by far, is the most accessible book I've come across on Mayan astrology and I thoroughly enjoyed putting together charts for myself and others. The authors are clearly well-versed in the subject and eager to make it understandable to all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Although this method of astrology is unusual from a Western point of view, the results are extremely accurate.

The book "Mayan Astrology" is well written, and enables even a person with limited astrology experience to develop and read a chart.Mayan astrology is like peeling an onion - many layers.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Pratice Mayan Astrology The Tzolkin Calendar and Your Path
This book is very user friendly. After doing some birth calculations on my own I found the authors personality desriptions amazingly accurate. For anyone who has an interest in astrology, I highly recommend Mayan astrology.

1-0 out of 5 stars My apologies for my error in judgment.
My further studies of the "Mayan Calendar" confirm MY ERROR. And I apologize to Mr. Scofield for my previous comments which were based on sound mathematics; but resulted in errors of interpretation of my findings. There ARE differiencs of interpretation between Señor Arguelles and Dr. Calleman. This book seems to accurately reflect research from a perspective similar to Dr. Carl Calleman. I have attempted to change my rating of this book without success; but now believe it warrants (at least) 4 stars. [10/30/2008] ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Navigating the Stars
The book gives some foundational explanations to a complicated science - Jyotish astrology. It's clear that one cannot just pick up this book and start figuring out their 'star charts'. However, having a foundation and an introduction to the whys, wheres and soforths, are helpful. The examples of star charts of famous people was very interesting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
This book assumes that the reader is already somewhat familiar with the topic. It is not a good book for an introduction into the topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars clear and insightful
Frawley's Ayurvedic astrology is the perhaps the best resource available for pratitioners of Jyotish or Ayurveda who are seeking ways to integrate these two Vedic sciences into a coherent system of true multi-dimensional healing. Few texts go into such depth when discussing these two systems, and Frawley also helps lift Ayurveda and Jyotish above the mundane level allowing the reader to glimpse a true vision of Cosmic healing. For any practioner or student of Ayurveda or Jyotish, look no further.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concrete and easy...
I have recently been studying some Ayurvedic related courses here and there, from Vedic astrology, doshas, pulse measuring, etc... This is a book that puts most of that together on an easy way. It avoids jumping into the very deep pool of knowledge that this disciplines have and keeps on a practical level which is very appreciated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, detailed and absorbing

A wealth of detail, well presented and very hard to put down. Skillfully illuminates ancient Eastern wisdom woven into a Western-digestible format. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Theosophy of Graha, Rashi, and Nakshatra
Similar to Behari's "Planets in Signs and Houses" and "Fundamentals of Vedic Astrology", this semi-introductory Jyotisha text is a handy reference work for intermediate students of the vidya - with certain caveats.

Students of Jyotisha who are already educated in western astrology, and wanting to acquire proficiency in Jyotisha, may find Behari's descriptions too heavily laden with theosophical concepts, or simply too mystical. Even those who come to Jyotisha studies without western tradition background may find that Behari's theosophy overwhelms his astrology. Students unfamiliar with theosophical teachings may struggle to separate the classical Jyotisha information from his heavily embroidered cosmological context.

Having said that, the student will find value in owning one volume that fairly concisely explains the navagraha (nine planets), the twelve rashi (signs), and the twenty-seven nakshatra (lunar mansions). Since there is very little nakshatra literature available in English, Behari's nakshatra chapters, each a readable 2.5 pages, will be an important addition to the Jyotisha learner's library.

Other reference assets for learners include a detailed index (rare in Jyotisha books!) and glossary, as well as several large, appended tables. Overall, this volume is worth the purchase price. I used it to learn from, and now I teach from it. Recommended to intermediate-level students, who have already acquired basic Jyotisha terminology -- with the caution that Behari's theosophy and his astrology do need to be mentally separated, in order to make full use of the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
This is a rich, varied, and highly readable astrological volume. Thought provoking, insightful, creative - suitable for beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Filled with exercises, visualizations, activities, questions - lots to work with here. But it's not heavy handed - the prose flows very nicely.
The Moon, its nodes, planetary transits, progressions, counseling ideas, self-help, helping others, mythological references, interesting quotations; there's even some poetry - something for everyone.
If you previously read any of the components of this book, it's worth buying it for the new chapter alone - Beyond Fate and Free Will - some knock-out musings on quantum consciousness. It certainly inspired me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ideal manual on astrology
The stars have been guiding humankind throughout its history. Explaining the beliefs laid out within them and how they can be used to explore one's inner nature and possibly plot out one's future in order to better prepare them, it's a solid primer on the subject that starting readers will find hard to beat. "The Astrology of Self-Discovery" is the ideal manual on astrology.

Apparently she is once again doing at least some astrology work and that is a very good thing. Her mix of psychology and astrology falls between the extreme Jungian mythological approach of authors like Karen Hamaker-Zondag and the straight forward but insightful work of Robert Hand. This book is well worth the wait and I'll write more when I get my copy and can refresh my memory. ... Read more

Product Description

This guide brings Chinese astrology back to its ancient roots, providing all the information you need for understanding one of the world's oldest systems of divination.

The ancient Chinese people developed a sophisticated science of astrology that continues to have profound influence in China today. Rooted in the fundamentals of Taoism, it evolved into a system vastly different from Western astrology. Rather than determining personality by the time of the year in which you are born, in Taoist astrology it is the year itself that determines your character. The years form a twelve-year cycle of signs, each named after an animal. Additionally, your personality depends on which of the five traditional Taoist elements you are born under--water, wood, fire, earth, or metal. This makes for a cycle of sixty unique signs. Taoist Astrology includes information for each sign's personality, compatibility, child-parent relations, and rising and falling fortunes during the twelve-year cycle. Discussions of yin and yang, Confucianism and Buddhism, Taoist alchemy, and the connection between Taoist astrology and Western astrology give you all the background you need for understanding one of the oldest systems of divination known to humanity.

Taoist Astrology differs from other books on the subject by grounding its concepts in the ancient traditions from which it originated.

5-0 out of 5 stars From a Taoist's perspective...
This is the most detailed and accurate source for Taoist astrology. I should know since I'm a practitioner of Taoism. I have been studying Taoism and Taoist astrology for over ten years. Online or offline this is the best resource for learning Taoist astrology. Everything you need to know is in this book. I have just two complaints concerning the dates: 1) There are numerous discrepencies in the starting & ending dates of the years listed in the back of the book. For example - The end date for lunar 2007 (Purple Boar) is listed as 2/6/2008 yet the start date for lunar 2008 (Yellow Rat) is listed as 2/2/2008. That's a five day overlap which is technically impossable. The actual starting date is 2/7/2008, I have the charts to prove it! Hopefully mistakes like these are just type-os. 2) On page 18 Susan Levitt lists solar 1996 as lunar 4694. If you use the traditional Chinese year counting method of counting the reigning years of the eperors, then she is wrong. The actual year is 4693. The reason for the one year discrepency is the reign of the first emperor, who according to LEGEND NOT FACT, took control 8 days prior to the start of the new year. So the modern communist government counts that extra 8 days as one year. I, like many people including historical scolars, believe this story to be nothing more than government propaganda to make everyone think the Chinese calendar is a little older than it really is. The Chinese communist government has been known for pulling stunts like this for decades to make themselves feel superior to the rest of the world. In short, the modern COMMUNIST calendar is wrong and the ancient, traditional Taoist calendar is correct. Which makes this year 2010 (White Tiger) the year 4707 not 4708. Everything else in the book is completely accurate. This is an otherwise excellent book that every student of Taoist/Chinese astrology should have, in fact it should be the only book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Informative
This book is fun and informative. I particularly enjoyed reading the child descriptions because they provided insights about my grandchildren. In fact, I read the descriptions aloud with my grandchildren, and as a result, we had many fascinating conversations.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most authentic books on the subject I've ever read.
This book provides a fresh perspective on a subject that is all too often simply regurgitated. Ironically, it does this by teaching the original Taoist philosophy on Chinese Astrology.I enjoyed how it gives a brief, but credible history and origin of "Chinese Astrology." Something that is oft overlooked in many other writings. It also recognizes more than just the well-known inter-triad sign compatibilities by making the reader aware of some other fantastic, but little known Yin-Yang parings. This book could easily replace the vast majority (99%) ofother books on the same topic.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in Chinese Astrology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple to look up your chinese zodiac
this goes further than just "you are a dragon, or tiger etc."but is still really accesible.I have found it to be pretty accurate, which is challenging withour casting an entire horoscope/astrology chart.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book For Beginners
I expected a book with "a handbook of authentic chinese tradition" in its title to present a more in-depth and penetrating insight into Taoist Astrology but this book fails to deliver on the promise.

It is very basic. A good place for an absolute beginner but those with prior knowledge might find it a tad too generalized and be disappointed. If you like to spend an afternoon reading the newspaper or magazine horoscope then this is the book for you.

The Pros? It is an easy afternoon read. The writing is clear and lucid.

The Con? I question the accuracy... read for yourself and you will know what I mean.

Overall... an interesting lazy afternoon read. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Biased book
I initially thought this was a decent book. But upon further examination I realized a very glaring problem. This book basically says that Virgos aren't good for anyone. That offended me because I am a Virgo!

I flipped through every single page of this book, checking under the section of each day that matches a person with some particular astrological sign romantically. The author linked Aries and Leos with darn near everyone and Virgos with no one.I cannot believe that Virgos can have so many positive qualities and not be the romantic preference for any other astrological sign for any day of the year!

I recently discovered that I am a Virgo with a Leo rising (meaning I present to the world, on the surface, as a Leo).I googled the meaning of this and discovered the book Relationship Signs by Linda Goodman. Her writeup of a Virgo woman with a Leo rising was 100% dead on for me-I am not exaggerating one iota!I was so impressed with Ms. Goodman's accuracy I bought the book online and am awaiting its arrival in the mail.I would recommend that you toss the Astrology Birthday book (as I have) and buy Ms. Goodman's!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun book
My daughter told me about this book and I have had so much fun with it.Just a great get to know someone.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVIBLE!!!
WARNING!!!This book will change your life.It will cause you to laugh, uncontrollably for hours on end.You will begin to cry and sides will hurt.Throats will become sore and bladders are known to leak.Proceed with extreme caution!!!

My mom and I laughed for hours on end. We looked up every relative we knew the birthday of. (Over 35 relatives all together.)We were shocked by how accurate it was. Some of them were so dead on, you would have thought that we had written it ourselves.Great Book!!!

Product Description
Using a new language of energy based on the ancient “four elements” and in harmony with that used by the more advanced healing arts, renowned author Stephen Arroyo here explores how astrology as a language of energy can be astoundingly accurate and useful in illuminating individuals’ energy exchange in all close relationships. The preface, author’s note, introduction, and early chapters of Person-to-Person Astrology lay the groundwork for serious consideration of astrology as a significant discipline. The following chapters detail the influence of the four elements—Fire, Earth, Water, Air—on the 12 signs, with a particular emphasis on the rising sign (Ascendant). The author shows readers how to experiment by comparing birth charts, and explains, through detailed descriptions, people’s psychological motivations and needs based on the positions of their Moon, Venus, and Mars. Appendices include astrological definitions, keywords, and sign tables that allow readers quick access to the basics. Written in the author’s trademark clear, accessible style, Person-to-Person Astrology presents a new approach to finding fulfillment in any kind of relationship. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative Indeed*
Yes, everything i read was RIGHT ON !- Good way to understand people near and dear to one self. - I enjoyed it indeed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A stimulating explanation of compatibility at the energy level!

A review of PERSON-TO-PERSON ASTROLOGY by a professional counselor recently appeared in the Canadian publication The Astrological Guild Book Review. Unlike a couple of previous Amazon reviewers of this book, this woman (who holds a M.Ed. degree) has obviously read this important and stimulating new book carefully and open-mindedly. She notes that "this book was a very engaging read" and that Arroyo's approach "resonates with the energies that we are made up of and can be felt in everyday life." She seems to detect and appreciate many of the same qualities in this book that another reviewer in "Mountain Astrologer" magazine commented on and praised (available online). The Canadian review concludes: "Although Arroyo claims this book is written for interested non-astrologers or those at the novice level, I would recommend it as well for those who are more advanced ...as it is well written, informative and inspires a more visceral, meaningful understanding of our experience."
It is unfortunate that some Amazon reviewers are so self-centered that they can't see the book itself for what it is, and only judge it based on whether it fulfills their "expectations" of flattering comments about their own wonderful birth charts. It is revealing that a couple reviewers who are "disappointed" still give the book 4 stars! And they do not seem to appreciate the scope of research or the variety of new approaches and observations about astrology contained in this fascinating book.
The comments about Arroyo's repetition from his earlier books are misleading, exaggerated, and inaccurate, since I would estimate that at least 95% of this book is entirely new material. He actually further refines the keywords and evocative key phrases developed in his deservedly popular classic works. All of the quotes from questionnaires and interviews with a wide variety of people are new, as are the extensive quotes from researchers, scientists, psychologists, and various well-known historical figures. He is obviously well read.
In short, there is simply nothing else in astrological literature or astrological research that remotely resembles this book. And none of the dozens of books on astrology, relationships, and compatibility explains human interaction at the energy level like this volume does; nor do any of the other books contain a trace of research to substantiate their assertions--let alone such a wide-ranging and intellectually stimulating cornucopia of intriguing and often striking new ideas. The depth of the psychological portraits of the sign placements of the Moon, Venus, and Mars alone make this book worth twice the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Master reaches out in style!
If you have heard or suspected that there might be some substantial truth in astrology, this is an excellent place for an open and intelligent mind to start.

Over the last 30 years, Stephen Arroyo has achieved widespread international recognition for his outstanding astrological writings. In his previous books he has explored the depth and complexity of modern psychological astrology in clear, accessible, entertaining language. However, this book is written more for the general reader and independent thinker, not astrologers who already know their stuff!

The first few chapters explore a wide range of issues related to both astrology's lack of widespread acceptance and the problems of forming healthy relationships in the modern world. Arroyo refers to the "mass psychosis" of the modern Western lifestyle that bombards us with commercial images and unrealistic expectations. Our ability to form relationships with each other is one area that suffers as a result. The author suggests that if more people opened their minds to what serious astrology has to offer, they would find a much-needed, precise, insightful tool for self-understanding.

Arroyo gradually moves on to explore astrological basics such as the four elements, the twelve signs and the rising sign. The personal planets and relationships are covered in great depth, with countless everyday quotes and examples from many years of observation. This is very high quality writing that deserves respect.

3-0 out of 5 stars After waiting for so many years...
For a new book from my absolute favorite astrology author
I was quite disappointed .
No new insights, a lot of basic and retreaded information from his older books.
I still use all his older material on a regular basis and recommend them highly for their incredible insights into the human condition but this one is really not worth it for anyone who is already familiar with his work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on relationships!
I'm a longtime fan of Mr. Arroyo's work and Person-to-Person Astrology to me is his Magnum Opus.I heard he had a new book out from a very perceptive review by Mary Plumb at [...] which really gives an excellent overview. I agree with her assessment that "this is a wise and wonderful book." It's very accessible for non-astrologers and yet it has so much to offer us perennial students of the subject.

I really enjoyed the beginning chapters. He's quite critical of our modern culture and observes how it prevents us from recognizing our authentic selves, and shows how astrology can help us discover our essential nature, and recognize our individual motivations and expectations. He's an amazingly clear writer who's not afraid to tell it how he sees it... andeven if you don't agree, it's really thought provoking!

What's different about this book, compared to other astrology books, is its scientific and scholarly approach. This isn't just `theory'. Over 30 years of research and counseling he gathered hundreds of quotes from interviews and questionnaires so you get real people's experiences to illustrate the "energy interaction" between people. He also has found the best quotes from other respected authors' observations and gives full references to their sources. All these quotations combine to give us a clear overview so we can better understand our relationships and how we resonate or clash with each other.... He explores many little-noted aspects of astrological factors and really illuminates their meanings in a strikingly original way. This is a great practical guide for analyzing relationships.
UPDATED:
Additional reviews have recently been published that are not available online, which objectively confirm my initial evaluation of this book. The Journal of the largest organization in the UK, The Astrological Association, points out that PERSON-TO-PERSON ASTROLOGY "shows how astrological knowledge can be a useful tool for those seeking more authentic ways of relating." I would emphasize the word "authentic" since it is a major theme in this book, which seeks to strip away a lot of the socially conditioned and politically correct veneers we encounter. The reviewer calls Mr. Arroyo's writing "lucid and inspirational" and states that it is "refreshing to be reminded how straightforward and useful this energy approach to Astrology can be."

Also, a review in the USA's largest circulation popular astrology magazine, Dell's HOROSCOPE, is extraordinarilycomplimentary about the quality of this new book, calling it "one of the most comprehensive, explicit guides to the psychology of relationships," and goes on to say that "Arroyo's take on astrology transcends most anything on relationships you can find, and this includes any book in the pop-psychology, self-help, spiritual, or astrology sections of your favorite bookstore." The review concludes: "PERSON-TO-PERSON ASTROLOGY is bound to become an instant classic. Anyone interested in the astrology of relationships would be well advised to get this book before anything else."
Check it out! You won't be disappointed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best astrology book on my library.
This book is the best one in my astrology library! Among other good things on it, I have never read anything really elucidating about the Saros Series eclipses until I got it. I definitely will buy more books from this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars essential for the serious astrologer
Not for the "what's your sign?" people, but for real astrology students, this is a book you'll really use. Bernadette Brady explains progressions and transits with examples from history and keeps it simple when there's a lot to understand. She is very concise about planets/houses/angles/pointsand her method of making mini-graphs of transits is a simple way of expressing a lot of info. To demonstrate how it all works, she offers you the particulars of Napoleon's chart and asks what would you have said to him if you were his astrologer in 1814 and he asked for advice?

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!
Great book. I've heard many astrologers recommend this book. Easy to read and understand. I learned a lot from this. Thank you Bernadette. I took this to my weekly astrology meet and recommended it to my friends who are excited to get their own copies.

This is a good book and compact, part of a series put out. I was new to astrology. However, I would never spend $40.00 for one alone. You can find other descent books out their for much less. Years agoI spent maybe $13 for a new one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners
This book is by far the best I have read when it comes to introducing astrology to people who have a serious interest. It goes through all the major principles of astrology in a clear and concise manner. It is structured by lessons as opposed to chapters and has a quiz at the end of each lesson. As you read more about astrology and become more experienced interpreting charts, you will want to read seperate books for each planet, or the nodes, etc., but I can't think of a better way to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book for every home!
This is a small book(about 6" x 6") but it is packed with 400 pages of helpful, astrological information.A great reference guide packed with information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I have been extremely interested in astrology for a long time now and I was very excited to add this book to my ever-growing library. I thought it was great and very informative :]. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in astrology. There were a lot of subjects covered in the book and the overall look of the book is great! :]

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Guide; Great Value; Nicely done
I bought this beautifully illustrated and chunky book because of the WIDE variety of information it contains. It contains definitions and goes beyond to give you an overall basic understanding of Astrology and the different aspects of it. If you are looking for a complete guide, that goes into deep detail about all of the aspects pertaining, then this is not the book you're looking for. For me, this is a great reference guide to astrology.

Here's some of what I like about this book:
I like the amount of information given for each sign. For example, you get a profileaccording to: Appearance, Personality, Mind, Emotions, Strengths, Weaknesses, Shadow, Karma, Likes/Dislikes, Money, As a parent/As a child, Career, Leisure, and Gift ideas. (There is a small paragraph for each subject.)

I don't follow astrology as closely now as I did when I first became interested, so this book is extremely helpful for me if I know there's a certain aspect going on, and I need to look it up quickly to get a general idea of what's going on. (like...Oh! okay, now I remember what that's about!)

Other subjects covered are:
Elements
Qualities and Polarities
The Planets
The Houses and Angles (& aspect patterns)
The Aspects
The Unfolding Chart
How to interpret a chart
Compatability Chart (what type of lover each sign is)

I think this is a great guide for anyone interested in astrology. If there is a certain area you want more information on, then there are plenty of books you can find that will explain the specifics in much more detail. To get a general overview of how it all works, this is a great book for that. It's nicely organized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another in the "Bible" series to love!
With 3 kids and a full-time job to work around, every minute saved counts! The "Bible" series has been a wonderful addition to my personal pagan library.I have other books that are more in depth that I could never live without ("The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need" for example) but the quick-find layout of these books has proven to be invaluable as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
One of the best interpretive astrology books out there. It's not a "basic" book in the sense that it teaches you how to construct a natal chart; it won't walk you through the steps of finding your moon-sign, nor will it tell you if you have a grand-cross or a fire-trine, etc (I suggest spending some time in the FREE HOROSCOPES section of [...] if you need those things, or picking up a copy of PARKER'S ASTROLOGY)...however, when you are ready to sit down and figure out what it means when you have moon-in-Taurus-conjunct-Mars-in-the-6th-house, this book CAN'T be beat. The interpretations of placements are bold, assertive, and confident--a rare combination indeed! Most astrologers are too scared to crank out a strong interpretation because one placement might seem to contradict another, or there might be a placement that indicates a fondness for violence in someone that's an avowed pascifist...and so on. News flash: people are walking, talking contradictions! It's what makes us individuals! The authors of KEY WORDS know that only too well and, rather than hide from it, they revel in it. An excellent work for anyone who (a) enjoys astrology and (b) enjoys THINKING about astrology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!
This is a gem of a book as the previous reviewer stated from beginners to more advanced. The Key words ,ie; memorable descriptive imagery, is given as well as further information because in my opinion some will need further explanation.

ex; " Moon in Aries- (as a mother) The vigorous individual."

Well many might want to have a little more input as to what the author means be "vigorous", and so it is given. Also the keywords are not just for the rudimentary planet, signs & houses but the planets IN the houses and the planet energies combined in aspect. Also included are positive and negative manifestaions.

I especially like the endearing method of apect interpretation in the back of the book. There is a lot of knowledge condensed here for your money here from wise and learned practitioners. A very good resource.

3-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but too wordy
I expected something concise, easy to use. Instead, the descriptions of the different astrological concepts, signs, etc. are similar to what you can find in more commonly available titles that also provide a more detailed background. In other words, with this book if you need something brief, you are presented with a host of sometimes completely unnecessary data; but if you want to know more you have to go to a different book. Instead, when I need a keyword reference, I want to see something like Diane Cramer's medical dictionary of astrology, Dictionary of Medical Astrology, concise and to the point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful thumbnail astrological analysis
This little book cuts to the astrological chase in a concise, clear, exciting style.Banzhaf is a German-language writer (in translation here) whose clipped-to-the-point descriptions of all the basic astrologicalpositions and combinations are steeped in a deep knowledge not only of thesubject at hand, but of Jungian psychology, classical mythology, numerology, and Tarot. While many authors who have written valuable bookson chart analysis carry on at great lengths to discuss each element of thehoroscope, Banzhaf is in every case clear, concise, illuminating, andalmost best of all, he supplies us with brief, pithy, mythology orpsychology-derived titles for nearly every combination here--titles such asMoon in Aries--the Amazon. While this may sound simplistic on the surface,Banzhaf's deep knowledge of mythology, tarot, and depth psychology make hislabels instantly clear and applicable--and separates him from many of thelight-weight pop-mythologists who have littered the literary landscape inpast years with their myth-lite treatises on Goddesses, etc.Astrology asa symbolic language is subject to positive and negative readings, andBanzhaf is careful to supply both the positive and negative polarities ofall situations. This is a mature, insightful, serious thinker and writer, and I wish more of his books were available in English.I'd recommend thisone without reservation for anyone interested in Astrology, beginnerthrough expert. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a suprise
This book came faster then I expected and it was in new condition. This seller was great to work with and the prices are more then fair. I will go out of my way to buy from this seller again.

4-0 out of 5 stars So true!
Although I'm not a firm believer in astrology, this book was SO TRUE.And not just for me (boring, selfish, pessimistic Capricorn), but for nearly everyone I know.Including my Scorpion boyfriend (and other Scorpion friends) who secretly seethe with jealousy and murderous rage, as well as my Aquarius mother who is always on a completely different page. It's entertaining,so don't take it so seriously.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bought for my aunt
