If you are new or have some experiences about SW this book gonna save money and time for you. Compared to the literature that comes whit the SW training, at least in Sweden this is ten times better in all manners.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok for beginners
This Planchard book is great for the beginner. It contains very detailed, step by step instructions.
It would be best suited for the person teaching himself SW.I, however, am advanced and found it to be very elementary and of little use to me.But if I was just starting out, it would be great.
Brian Rasco, CSWP

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book with short tutorials and all model files
I started to use SolidWorks about two weeks ago when my company and my department was both down sized. I needed to learn SolidWorks fast. This is one of two book's which I purchased.

The book provides tons of short tutorials (ten to twenty steps) to learn and practice various features and design techniques with a quick start section in the first chapter. All initial and final model files are provided on the CD. At this time, I'm somewhat overwhelm on the ability and functionality of SolidWorks. This is a very powerful software CAD tool with analysis capabilities.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn SolidWorks by using short tutorials

5-0 out of 5 stars The SW reference book to have!
I purchased two 2009 SW reference books: This one and the bible. The Commands Guide is by far; easier to read, utilize and comprehend. To coin a phase, "It is very user friendly." It covers substantial information on system options and document properties, default settings, (which is key when you have multi-users on the same system) and important modeling features for parts and assemblies always applying the correct design intent.
The drawing and sheet metal sections are also very good. This is any excellent SW desk reference book for any user who is looking to supplement the SolidWorks online help files and tutorials. The file structure on the CD makes it very easy to locate the corresponding model file to the chapter tutorial. Sometimes, just having a hard copy is nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. & Mrs. Planchard ROCK
It's a privilege and honor to be able to write a review about such an Incredible piece of Literature. This is, by far, The BEST book on SolidWorks in the WORLD. I (stupidly) bought the Solidworks 2009 Bible and got it yesterday and today I am using it for fire Kindling!

I plan to purchase every one of David's books, once you get one, you want them all.

I also purchased the Certified SolidWorks 2008 Preparation Exam Guide...WOW, ECELLENT. See my comment that Mr. Planchard quoted in response to that book. If you are really starving for knowledge with SolidWorks (like I am) then you've found it HERE! ... Read more

Product Description
The rapid evolution and explosive growth of integrated circuittechnology have impacted society more than any other technologicaldevelopment of the 20th century. Integrated circuits (ICs) are useduniversally and the expanding use of IC technology requires moreaccurate circuit analysis methods and tools, prompting theintroduction of computers into the design process. The goal of thisbook is to build a firm foundation in the use of computer-assistedtechniques for IC device and process design. Both practical andanalytical viewpoints are stressed to give the reader the backgroundnecessary to appreciate CAD tools and to feel comfortable with theiruse.
Technology CAD - Computer Simulation of IC Processes andDevices presents a unified discourse on process and device CAD asinterrelated subjects, building on a wide range of experiences andapplications of the SUPREM program. Chapter 1 focuses on themotivation for coupled process and device CAD. In Chapter 2 SUPREM IIIis introduced, and process CAD is discussed in terms ofion-implantation, impurity diffusion, and oxidation models. Chapter 3introduces the Stanford device analysis program SEDAN III(SEmiconductor Device ANalysis). The next three chapters move intogreater detail concerning device operating principles and analysistechniques. Chapter 4 reviews the classical formulation of pnjunction theory and uses device analysis (SEDAN) both to evaluate someof the classical assumptions and to investigate the difficult problemof high level injection. Chapter 5 returns to MOS devices, reviews thefirst-order MOS theory, and introduces some important second-ordereffects. Chapter 6 considers the bipolar transistor. Chapter 7considers the application of process simulation and device analysis totechnology design. The BiCMOS process is selected as a useful designvehicle for two reasons. First, it allows the reader to pull togetherconcepts from the entire book. Second, the inherent nature of BiCMOStechnology offers real constraints and hence trade-offs which must beunderstood and accounted for. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dan Clowes fans take note
This is hipster fare for the most part, with a few amusing bits. There's a good Russ Meyer interview and some retro stuff about martinis and such. But the best part for me was the Dan Clowes comic of one of the more bawdy versions of "Frankie and Johnnie". It's one of his better "early" pieces. The lyrics are a hoot and you can really see that Clowes had a blast drawing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Cool, Nostalgic Humor
CAD is humorous, entertaining, and sexy. It is a manual/zine for the swinging bachelor. If you aspire to become a swinging bachelor, this is a good resource by which to model your behavior and style. I personally like the book for its entertainment value, cool pictures, and interesting stories. Very nice coffee table literature!!! ... Read more

Product Description
This book deals with the basic and advanced theories of curves and surfaces and their applications in CAD/CAM. Throughout the book, the description is intended to give readers not only a clear theoretical foundation but also a comprehensive understanding of geometrical properties of shapes and their processing methods. For this purpose, new and powerful methods of free-form surface synthesis and evaluation are introduced that do not rely on unnecessarily complicated mathematics. The book is written for practical engineers who need to know about theories of curves and surfaces and their processing methods for the design and manufacture of engineering objects of high quality. Accordingly, though the various methods are systematically formalized, they are also graphically interpreted so that one can analyze problems just using pencil and paper with the help of the drawings. Many of the theories and methods described have been successfully applied in leading Japanese companies, and real examples are given to illustrate their role in the construction and utilization of integrated CAD/CAM systems. ... Product Description
CAD Principles for Architectural Design is aimed at design students and practitioners interested in understanding how CAD is used in architectural practice. This book makes connections between the basic operations that are common to most CAD systems, and their use in practice on actual architectural design projects.

The ways in which CAD is integrated into the design processes of several leading edge practices is illustrated. Arising from these case studies is the emergence of a contemporary phenomenon of integrated CAD, in which all aspects of design schemes are brought together within computational frameworks that support the analysis of design proposals.

Szalapaj's view of CAD is one in which computers constitute a medium in which designers can express design ideas, rather than viewing computers as problem solving machines. For creative designers to successfully exploit CAD technology, CAD systems should reflect designers' intuitions as described by designers themselves

*Learn how to express your design ideas in CAD
*Understand the principles of CAD that are essential to all architects
*Turns theory into practice with an international range of contemporary architectural projects ... Read more

Product Description
This econometric study covers the world outlook for CAD/CAM/CAE software across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for CAD/CAM/CAE software. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Cads," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Cads in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Cads when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Cads, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
Many products are designed with aesthetic sculptured surfaces to enhance their appearance, an important factor in customer satisfaction, especially for automotive and consumer electronics products. In other cases, products have sculptured surfaces to meet functional requirements. Functional surfaces interact with the environment or with other surfaces. Because of this, functional surfaces can also be called dynamic surfaces. Functional surfaces do not possess the property to slide over itself, which causes significant complexity in machining of sculptured surfaces. The application of multiaxis numerically controlled (NC) machines is the only way for an efficient machining of sculptured surfaces. Reduction of machining time is a critical issue when machining sculptured surfaces on multiaxis NC machines. To reduce the machining cost of a sculptured surface, the machining time must be as short as possible.Table of Contents: Introduction / Analytical Representation of Scupltured Surfaces / Kinematics of Sculptured-Surface Machining / Analytical Description of the Geometry of Contact of the Sculptured Surface and of the Generating Surface of the Form-Cutting Tool / Form-Cutting Tools of Optimal Design / Conditions of Proper Sculptured-Surface Generation / Predicted Accuracy of the Machined Sculptured Surface / Optimal Sculptured-Surface Machining ... Product Description
The lingering image of George Sanders, kept alive by his appearances in dozens of famous films, is that of the cultured cad. Sanders won an Oscar for his performance as the acerbic, haughty drama critic in "All About Eve" and gave good accounts of himself as a cad in "Rebecca" and "The Moon and Sixpence", but mostly he ambled through more than a hundred films with a strangely appealing insouciance that fascinated even those with whom he worked. Perhaps it was the way he spoke--like a well-tuned cello voicing aphorisms. He was a witty man, and his autobiography, "The Memoirs of a Professional Cad", published in 1960, is one of the most amusing and literate books ever written by an actor. Veteran broadcaster and film historian Tony Thomas has filled in the rest of the George Sanders story by supplying an introduction, a lengthy epilogue, and a filmography of Sanders's 110 films. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a Poisionality!
"All About Eve", "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir", "The Black Swan", "The Portrait of Dorian Gray", "Rebecca" ... every time I saw these movies I would revel in George Sanders' performances. I had a hunch that there was much more to the man than met the eye. The introduction and filmography tells you everything you need to know about this talented, tortured man. The priceless segment was his autobiography; hearing his intelligent, sarcastic voice once again making hilarious observations about the world around him. However, one note about the dust cover art: with all the respect given him in the book I thought decorating the book with a martini glass and strewn pills in bad taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, witty, biography fans will LOVE it!

4-0 out of 5 stars strong on concepts!
I was interested in this book because it seemed less like a "how to" book and more about what makes this technology work.It has not disappointed on those issues at all.Very rich in information. The biggest weakness I have found is that the author clearly favors certain software packages over others, which I can understand... everyone has their preferences. However, when discussing Autodesk's Revit platform, I found the book to be overly biased and sometimes, flatly, mistaken. This issue does not however, severely detract from the overall value of the information.Where the book seeks to discuss BIM without focusing on specific software, it is without equal. As long as you aren't making purchasing decisions based on the information, anyone familiar with the basics of BIM will find it fascinating.

Product Description
This book consists of a collection of works dealing with CAD based robot programming. This is the process where CAD (computer based) models are used for task planning and the development of robot programs. If the program is generated by a programmer interacting with a CAD display of the robot and its workcell environment, the process is called off-line or interactive programming. On the other hand, if the robot program is generated automatically by the computer, then the process is referred to as automatic robot programming. This book is unique in that it focuses on the use of CAD models both for interactive and automatic robot programming. It brings together representative works from the experts from various disciplines in Engineering and Computer Science working around the world in this area. The subjects discussed in this book cut across several disciplines including CAD/CAM and geometric modeling, robot programming, artificial intelligence, sensory processing and kinematic and dynamic modeling. This book is of special interest to researchers, students and practitioners involved with programming of robot manipulators. It provides them with a comprehensive coverage of the important issues and the representative works in the field. ... Read more
