Excerpt: The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), also called the tundra mammoth, is an extinct species of mammoth. This animal is known from bones and frozen carcasses from northern North America and northern Eurasia with the best preserved carcasses in Siberia. They are perhaps the most well known species of mammoth. This mammoth species was first recorded in (possibly 150,000 years old) deposits of the second last glaciation in Eurasia. They were derived from steppe mammoths (Mammuthus trogontherii). It disappeared from most of its range at the end of the Pleistocene (10,000 years ago), with a dwarfed race still living on Wrangel Island until roughly 1700 BC. Skull of a woolly mammoth discovered in May 1999 in the North Sea at the coast of the Netherlands. The woolly mammoth is common in the fossil record. Unlike most other prehistoric animals, their remains are often not literally fossilised - that is, turned into stone - but rather are preserved in their organic state. This is due in part to the frozen climate of their habitats, and also to their massive size. Woolly mammoths are therefore among the best-understood prehistoric vertebrates known to science in terms of anatomy. Woolly mammoths lived in two groups which are speculated to be divergen...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=17369680 ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The wild man or woodwose is a mythical figure that appears in the artwork and literature of medieval Europe. Images of wild men appear in the carved and painted roof bosses where intersecting ogee vaults meet in the Canterbury Cathedral, in positions where one is also likely to encounter the vegetal Green Man. The wild man, pilosus or "hairy all over," and often armed with a club, was a link between civilized humans and the dangerous elf-like spirits of natural woodland, such as Puck. The image of the wild man survived to appear as supporter for heraldic coats-of-arms, especially in Germany, well into the 16th century. Early engravers in Germany and Italy were particularly fond of wild men, wild women, and wild families, with examples from Martin Schongauer and Albrecht Düreramong others. ... Read more

Product Description
The Great Sea-Serpent, first published by A. C. Oudemans in 1892, is a foundational text in cryptozoology. Oudemans did more than just compile a lengthy list of sighting reports-he used those accounts to thoughtfully develop one of the most interesting theories in the historical investigation of mystery animals. While we may or may not agree with his conclusions, we can see the direct influence his methodology had on the pioneers of cryptozoological research. Even today, there are few studies that match the scope, detail, and effort of The Great Sea-Serpent. It is worth a space on any cryptozoology enthusiast's bookshelf. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars less than I expected, but okay as a non-game-specific source
I had high hopes for this book, but was a little disappointed.I bought conspiracy x, expecting great stuff, and it met with my expectations.Cryptozoolgy didn't.First, it's set up with information divided into two parts: the gamers information, and the GM's information.the result is that you have to look in two different areas for information on different "supernatural creatures".Most of the regular freaks of nature are covered--Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot, Sasquatch, etc.I was pleased to see a few others like the Mokole. The writing is a lot more pendantic than I'd like--but that may be a direct result from being written in character, where teh character is old, stuffy, and bombastically long-winded. If your game will run into a supernatural creature, it might be worth checking this beek out.If not, I wouldn't bother. ... Read more

The family trapped inside will forget all about their own inner turmoils and focus on fending off the cryptozoological monsters that a raging storm has let loose. 5-0 out of 5 stars Good monster book
This is a gruesome tale about a traveling freak show.Creatures only thought to exist in legend are real.Omaha, a monster hunter, has found these creatures.Everything from the Loch Ness monster's babies to The Chupacabra is on display here. When these creatures get loose in a zoo full of people the carnage begins. It's fast paced, real fast. But upon reading the first page I was hooked and had to know how this ended.

While everyone is dieing the monster hunter himself and a family trying to mend broken hearts are the main characters. There are 2 other characters that put a good twist to the story, a cop gone wrong and a psychic ex-nun.

This book isn't for the squeamish and I must say, after reading it I have this urge to play Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection and let the animals out on the little zoo goers. It's a great book, it's easy to see it play out in your head and I'm sure it'd make a decent movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book has potential, but . . .
The action of this book occurs too fast paced.Characters (& especially the monsters) are not completely fleshed-out.Readers would like to know more about them, what makes them be what they are.The story & premise are good.Perhaps the author will rework this someday into a very good novel. It might also make an awesome movie. But readers need more background for story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Cool!
The Cage by Jason Brannon is a brutal shocking horror story that entwines fantasy, fiction, and a whole lot of fear together to make an amazing read. Brannon's descriptions and details of his characters is like watching a movie. I can clearly picture all that is going on, and I have to say my favorite part is Sister Mary when she "goes along for the ride," with Teddy. There were a few minor typo's but that didn't deter me from reading this great story, and let me tell you I really loved Jason's view of these creatures.

Captain Jack Omaha and his Cryptozoological Fair and Freak Show is out to mess up the lives of an uncountable amount of people. Jack himself had experienced such trauma when tracking a creature that was unknown to existence, that he sought out people who were looking for the thrill of the hunt to feed his own sick ego. After meeting 5 rich office type hunters, Jack unleashed the Sasquatch for the men to hunt down; unbeknownst to the men, he also let loose a second creature, The Dragon of Bone Island.

Grant Peters is trying to piece together his relationship with his wife and kids. They are now at The Preserve trying to have a nice family weekend. Jack Omaha has once again unleashed his creatures into the world, The Dragon of Bone Island tracked him down, releasing some of the most dangerous creatures in the world. The Windego, The Beast of Exmoor, and The Chupacabra are all wondering around in the zoo, maiming and eating whatever or whoever they can get a hold of. Now Grant's daughter, Crissy has been snatched up by one of the creatures and he's playing games with her... dangerous games.

All the while Teddy is trying to be a hero, he was one out of the group of guys that actually survived The Dragon and was now out to make this all come to an end. He must take down The Dragon, as well as the rest of Omaha's creatures. But he does have a little help, the ex-nun Sister Mary is along for the ride, providing him with the info he needs... only she is riding along in his brain. Curious? Get a copy and find out what I'm not telling you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Let me clear something up
I want to echo that this is a fun read and it hooks you and keeps you in the action.I do want to clarify one statement from the previously posted comment. The Cage is not a self-published book.KHP is a legit small press publisher.Wanted to clear this up in case any other readers out there might be hesitant of picking this book up if they think it is self-published.Pick up a copy and see if you can escape...THE CAGE!

5-0 out of 5 stars No one escapes The Cage
Captain Jack Omaha has a traveling sideshow. He sometimes can be hired to provide a specimen for a hunting party, unfortunately, the hunters become the huntees. Omaha shows up at a zoo, hawking his attractions, but he also has other plans for them. Omaha wants people to suffer the way he has when he captured these beasts. See, Captain Jack deals with the cryptozoological style of specimens. Some of his creatures are the wendigo, a Jersey Devil, Beast of Exmoor, Sasquatch, lizardmen, merfolk, and the nastiest of all - El Chupacabra. He tortures them ruthlessly and then sets them loose on others. Today he selected a zoo and the unfortunate dysfunctional Peters clan is in for a day of horror they will never forget.

I'm leery of self published books but this one hits home with enough pow to make it worthwhile. There's a few things that bothered me in the details such as the inexplicable way of how fast the corpses of dead things are rotting or how there's a nasty storm yet the flies are still present outside. None-the-less, this is a fairly quick paced story and if you like the crypto-critters, this is one heckuva fun read. Could be easily turned into a good horror movie. Glad I decided to buy this one. ... Read more

Product Description
Henry Lee's short work is one of the earliest analyses of sea serpents from a biological perspective. Published in 1883 in conjunction with the International Fisheries Exhibition in London, Henry Lee treats the subject seriously and with enthusiasm. Lee was open to the possibility of large unknown marine animals, but felt that many, if not most, could be explained as sightings of rarely encountered giant squids of the deep ocean. ... Read more

Product Description
Book Description:

"The core of the book is about dragons: Western, Chinese, and Japanese, although it also covers the Sea-serpent, the Unicorn, and the Chinese Phoenix. Gould hypothesized that the dragon was based on an unknown, very rare animal, a huge reptile with wings, which became extinct in historical times. He also concluded that persistent sea-serpent sightings were also due to an undiscovered surviving prehistoric marine animal. He drew on the then-emerging body of fossil evidence for prehistoric megafauna, from flying lizards to whale-sized aquatic dinosaurs.

In context the proposal was not all that outrageous. Darwin had 25 years earlier proposed that humans are part of a huge web of biological relationships over vast realms of time and space. So what other paradigms were about to be shattered?

Gould leads off with a discussion of some other 'earth mysteries:' the world-wide flood myth, cultural diffusion, and Atlantis; readers looking for the cryptozoology will want to skip forward to Chapter VI. Extensive illustrations, translations from rare documents, and historical accounts from newspaper articles, make this a must-have book for anyone interested in this subject.
