Book Description
As business competitiveness increases in veterinary medicine, comprehensive veterinary dental service has become a key to success for many practitioners. Yet, historically, dentistry has been a neglected aspect of veterinary training. This book fills the need for dentistry information. It explains how to: Integrate dentistry into a general practice; Understand important dental principles; Acquire and use proper equipment; Perform or refer procedures in endodontics, periodontal surgery and orthodontics; Train staff in care of dental patients and owners; Teach owners the importance of dentistry to overall animal health.

The book also emphasises the cooperative role between veterinarian and client in maintaining animal dental health and rendering proper preventative and corrective procedures. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Adequate Overview
This book is disappointing in its scholarship. I had hoped it would contain more up to date information on state of the art techniques, but instead it is aimed mostly at explaining basic dentistry and book-keepingskills. Every veterinarian should have a dentistry text, but I thinkHolmstrom's 1998 book is more comprehensive and informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful index makes this resource invaluable
For vets and techs, this volume gives reasons for dental care, explicit photos and ways to deal with clients. The excellent index allows easy access to the book. ... Read more

Book Description

This book describes the most recent developments in the field of operative dentistry. It is aimed at senior students and general dental practitioners and describes techniques and methods in a step-by-step manner that is directly applicable to everyday practice. It is a short, readable textbook with plenty of high-quality color clinical figures used throughout. This book describes contemporary developments in operative dentistry. It covers recent developments in caries detection techniques and treatment, as well as the use of the latest composite and porcelain restorative materials, bleaching and crown provision techniques. There is a chapter on non-carious tooth tissue loss, which is an increasingly common problem through the widespread consumption of carbonated beverages. This book provides enough practical detail for the dentist to feel confident in expanding old skills and trying new ones. The plethora of new dental materials and techniques can prove daunting, but guidance is given as to which material or technique will prove most useful in particular circumstances.

Editorial Review

Book Description
The new edition of this best selling dental textbook has been thoroughly updated to keep abreast of current knowledge of the disease processes and the role of operative dentistry in their management. The book describes clearly and concisely the indications and methods for many common operative and conservative procedures in dental practice. Procedures and techniques are illustrated in full colour and where appropriate, step-by-step sequences are given. Its popularity lies in the fact that it doubles as an atlas and the text is clear and accessible. The new co-author, Tim Watson, is well known as an expert in adhesive dentistry.A new chapter has been added on adhesion and adhesive restorations, since these are now the first choice for primary lesions for all surfaces and all teeth in the mouth.Amalgam is still thoroughly described, but bonding techniques are now included with a shift away from pins where retention is a problem. The diagnosis of failed restorations has been updated in the light of new research and techniques for refurbishment and repair of restorations are advocated where appropriate. As in previous editions, the approach is disease and prevention orientated, is problem based and the changes have a research evidence-base. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional book!
I am a second year dental student at the University of the West Indies, School of Dentistry, Mount Hope Medical Sciences Complex, Trinidad, W.I. This book was a recommended text on our reading list. I used the book to prepare for my recent dental exams, and as it turned out I managed to top my class...I guess this is a reflection on how student oriented this book is.

I really enjoyed reading the book. It was never a bore, and the illustrations were very helpful in visualising what was being narrated in the text.

I highly recommend this book to all dental students and I also feel that those already in practice should have a view of this book to refresh their minds.

There is much knowledge to be gained from this book as it provides the beginning student with a firm foundation upon which to build on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Practical Advice
Wet-Fingered Dentistry offers sound, practical advice on private practice. Almost every "specialty" is covered, including orthodontics, implantology continuing education, practice management, relationships with colleagues and establishments.

However, do note that you won't find too much technical details in this book; just brief and general advice without a lot of elaboration. It could have been a little more "meaty". Nevertheless, I wish I had this book 15 years ago when I was just starting out. I could have learned so much from this book instead of learning from mistakes. ... Read more
