Product Description
Deranged devices and comic contraptions from the highly inventive genius behind the hilarious Book of Bunny Suicides

Much like his hero, Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci, bestselling author Andy Riley is not just an artist (or a liar)—he’s an inventor. Imagine, if you will:

· The easily assembled Pole-Dancing-Club-in-a- Briefcase for stranded businessmen
· Christmas tree ornaments that provide surveillance to instantly tell Santa if you’ve been bad or good
· A high-speed police response unit aptly named the Cop Catapult
· The Arsehole Trap, which can clear an average size town of arseholes in a single day with its promise of Big Brother auditions Like a twenty-first-century Rube Goldberg on the wrong mix of meds, Andy Riley has created elaborate inventions that are often side-splittingly sociopathic and never short of patently hysterical. ... Product Description

The identification of unknown individuals and the estimation of age, race, and gender are among the chief functions of forensic dentistry. Other important applications include the investigation and analysis of bitemarks and oral injuries in abuse cases and evaluating, reporting, and testifying in civil litigation cases. Twelve years after the benchmark first edition of this book explored these topics, the long-awaited Forensic Dentistry, Second Edition offers a comprehensive update and revision of the material.

Offering insight from many new contributors on the cutting edge of forensic science and odontology, this new edition expands the book’s scope to include a broader historical and theoretical analysis, a thorough assessment of the past decade’s developments, and a far-reaching projection of future trends.

New topics in the second edition include:

  • Forensic dental radiography
  • Age estimation
  • Jurisprudence and legal issues
  • History of forensic dentistry
  • Landmark cases, including September 11th and Hurricane Katrina

In order for forensic odontology to continue to progress as a specialty of forensic science, there must be a consistent stream of new ideas and original and applied research. Heavily illustrated and enhanced with a 16-page color insert with additional photos, this volume captures the critical issues that confront today’s forensic dentist, explores the field’s limitations, and provides a window on the future of this crucial sector within the forensic identification science arena.

Product Description

Restorative Dentistry: An Integrated Approach presents the core of knowledge that forms the basis of clinical practice in restorative dentistry.

The book contains a practical common-sense approach to clinical problems structured within the limitations imposed by the patient and the ability and facilities of the dentist. Subjects included in the book are Periodontology, Endodontics, Dental Biomaterials, Oral Biology and Pathology, and Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics. However Restorative Dentistry offers a somewhat unique approach in that it integrates the basic sciences that are fundamental to clinical practice rather than having separate sections or expecting readers to consult other texts for basic information. The integration means that there are not separate sections on the specialist subjects but aspects of these topics are distributed throughout.

This second edition is full colour throughout. It has been fully revised with two brand new chapters on Implantology bringing the book up to date with emerging technologies and developments in clinical procedures and materials.

2-0 out of 5 stars some sections are good, other are........
I have always liked the lexi-comp pharma texts. This dental text has some nice review sections with great graphics and charts. Then is has some sections with hand-drawn diagrams. That is totally unacceptable. I was able to do an internet search and find better diagrams in a few seconds. Seem like the authors decided to save a few bucks......That is bad considering that this is not a cheap text.

5-0 out of 5 stars good basic info for beginning dentist
This book is high yield and covers a broad range of topics.I took the first ADEX exam and used this book as a primary source to study for the 6.5 hr written test (which I easily passed).
Information presented does not go into great depth, but then again that's what makes this such a good reference guide. If you are a dental student and forgot what the furcation classes signify you can find it in less than a minute. If you are a new doctor and don't know how much lidocaine to administer a 40 lb patient you can find that very quickly too.
In summery a great reference for quick high yield facts.Wish I had it in dental school during clinic time.

3-0 out of 5 stars better suited for study material.
this is a book for more of prep for an exam. It doesn't give much of clinical help to an active clinician although things are organized in a concise manner.
It'd help as a study guide for a license exam since it covers all major field of dentistry. Periodontal chapter is probably lacking the most of clinical information. ( Again, it's not much of clinical reference but if I have to choose out of all the chapters.. ) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for dental care professionals
This book is an excellent resource for professional dental care teams wishing to have immediate access to up to date information about preventive dental care topics. This volume also includes specifics about Internet resources, which allows dentists, hygienists and dental assistants to research key topics even further.

We especially appreciated all the information about nutrition and the role that it plays in preventive dental care - and the one that it plays in developing periodontal disease. The facts provided about sugar and sugar substitutes and how they relate to preventive dental care allow us to share relevant, up to date information with our patients about this important subject.

"Understanding Human Motivation" was another excellent chapter; armed with this knowledge, our entire dental care team can discuss the importance of regular preventive dental care with patients in ways that will encourage them to change their unhealthy behaviors and incorporate those habits that will boost their oral health. This chapter has helped us discuss the best ways to communicate information to and collaborate with our patients for the most effective results.

The book is well organized with clear goals and objectives stated for each chapter and with important concepts bolded for emphasis. The self evaluation quizzes at the end of each chapter are also quite helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Preventive dentistry
Well this book is very detailed, which can be a good thing if you are wanting to learn. Also boring to read.Overall it covers the basics very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent,Integrative, Comprehensive & Current
I am a second year dental student and find this book to be comprehensive in its theoretical approach and practice of preventive dentistry in private and public health sectors. A university level background in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry and dental materials are necessary to understand some of the more advanced concepts.

Each chapter beings with clearly stated objectives highlighting the subject matter that the authors consider essential. Key words and concepts appear in bold, italicized letters.Throughout each chapter there aretrue-and-false and multiple choice questions. The correct answers given as well asthorough explanations as to why the other multiple choice answers are wrong. This comprehensive approach enhanced my knowledge and understanding of the material. Each chapter concludes with a series of auto evaluation questions highlighting the essential information in each chapter. As a result, I did not have to read and then re-read each chapter.

The following topics are discussed in-depth: Introduction to Primary Preventive Dentistry and its relevance to today's dental practice; The Development and Structure of Dental Plaque, Calculus, and other Tooth-adherent Organic Materials; The Developing Carious Lesion; The Role of Dental Plaque in the Etiology and Progress ofPeriodontal Disease; Various types of Toothbrushes and Tooth brushing Techniques; Dentifrices, Mouth Rinses, and Chewing Gums; Supplemental Oral Health Self-Care; Water Fluoridation; Pit-and-Fissure Sealants; Oral Biological Defenses in Tooth Demineralization and Remineralization; Caries Activity Testing; Periodontal Disease Prevention; Sugar and Other Sweeteners; Nutrition, Diet, and Oral Conditions; Understanding Human Motivation in Oral Care; Dental Public Health Programs; Preventive Oral Health in Early Childhood; Oral Health Promotion in Schools; Preventive Oral Health Care for Compromised Individuals; Geriatric Dental Care; Primary Preventive Dentistry in Hospital Settings; and Rationale, Guidelines, and Procedures for Prevention of Plaque-associated diseases. Different age and health status groups are also considered including pedodontic, geriodontic, handicapped, and hospitalized individuals. Finally, there is a chapter on how to use risk assessment to integrate prevention into the total treatment plan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Primary Preventive Dentistry
As a practicing dental hygienist, I found this book helpful. It is a great review for all professionals in the dental field.

The book is very technical and some areas are not smooth reading.I did find a fewhelpful sections such as the one on Topical Fluoride. However, I do thinkI will refer to the Wilkins text more often.

If you are looking for adifferent style of writing or different perspective (and have the extramoney to spend) then I would recommend this book.It is good forresearching certain topics. ... Read more
