5-0 out of 5 stars Electronic Marketing For Small Business
I am always purchasing and reading books on small business and entrepreneurship. Obviously, the internet offers great opportunities for entrepreneurs. However, getting started and gaining basic knowledge can be very confusing, frustrating and costly. Tom Antion's Electronic Marketing For Small Business is a great guide for learning how to get a profitable internet business started. The book is full of extremely useful information from software products to additional training resources that one can acquire without spending a fortune. Also, I found the book to be fun and very entertaining something you don't find very often in business and technical books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth keeping on your reference shelf
In these days of internet marketing, it is imperative for any small business, even a traditional bricks and mortar store, to have a website or some sort of electronic presence. This book goes through the process, step by step, of doing just that.

Some parts of setting up a business website, especially with new software, can be done by the average individual, with a bit of training. The more technical parts need to be left to people who know what they are doing. A major sin is to have a vital part of your website not work at all, or look like it was done by someone who has never done this before, just to save money.

What are you going to sell on this brand new website? If you don't already have a product or service, consider selling e-books. There is nothing to keep in stock; after you receive a person's money, all it takes is a few clicks on your computer, and the product is "shipped." How do you get people to visit your website? The author talks about things like affiliate marketing, joint ventures with other websites, free electronic newsletters or magazines, among many other things. He also talks about how to make sure that when a person does a search for "widgets," for instance, that your site is at, or near, the top of the list.

The author includes the addresses for many, many websites that show the things mentioned in this book. He also includes many examples from his own internet marketing campaign, so that anyone can see how he did it.

This book may seem overwhelming; take a deep breath, and go one step at a time. For anyone selling on the internet, this book is not just worth reading. It's worth keeping on your reference shelf, and making notes in, and marking pages with Post-It Notes. It's worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work
The Ultimate Electronic Marketing for Small Business is the non-techies' guide to marketing on the internet. This book takes the reader through the basics of getting his or her own domain, finding someone to design a website, and creating dazzling website copy that will not only draw customers to their website but also encourages potential customers to spend money. Among the most emphasized topics are the benefits of viral marketing methods such email lists, newsletters, and free ebooks.

The Ultimate Electronic Marketing for Small Business takes a bit different approach from other internet marketing books. Most books of this type assume that the small business entrepreneur will be creating their business themselves from building the website through all aspects of promotions and sales. This book, however, illustrates that you can find individuals with specialized skills such as website design and ghostwriting to create professional results without spending a fortune. Moreover, in handing over these tasks, the entrepreneur can spend more time on activities that actually draw in more money. I personally like the hands on aspect of website design and writing but I respect that not everyone enjoys these tasks. Therefore, I believe that the hints in this book could be beneficial to those individuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars fundamentally sound book
Ok - This book is not full of the most advanced strategies out their.

But they are the basics you must know if you want to survive
on the internet. You know I built a multi-million dollar online
business off the principles inside this book. When I played sports
my coach always said get back to the fundamentals. This book is a
fundamentally sound book. I've known Tom for a few years now.

He's a great guy and has a huge heart. You never can go wrong
with him. My clients that have worked with him love him to death
because of the success they achieved with his guidance.

I'd go grab this book now and not waste another sec longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book simply delivers!
Anyone in business, who has a website, is thinking about having one, wonders why some websites work and some don't, or has any interest in Internet commerce should buy this book.

Most websites, quite frankly, suck. They might be beautiful and artful at best, but they are "brochure-wear" - mine originally was. It replaced the need for a paper brochure, and like a brochure, almost no one read it. Certainly random web surfers and searchers, no matter how interested they might have been, rarely found it. I gradually got my site working like an effective website should, and it's getting better fast with this book's help. I wish I had The Ultimate Guide years ago when I launched my site!

Tom breaks his strategy into three prongs, and even if you are interested in only one or two this book has enough value that you probably need it.

Prong #1: Build a great website. A great website, among other things, is ones the search engines love and send you people who will be happy to find it.

Prong #2: Build an email list of people who want to hear from you. Periodically send them things of value, for example a useful ezine/enewsletter.

Prong #3: Develop and sell information products. It doesn't matter what your main business may be, having some low cost (and up) products so people who like your "free stuff" can see how good your "non-free stuff is." If, as in my example, you are a consultant and speaker, people who buy products for maybe $20-$100 will be more likely to hire you for your normal fees. It's a BIG leap of faith for someone to hire you for consulting or to deliver a keynote speech, i.e. for thousands of dollars, as their first transaction with you!

I knew Tom Antion existed for a while. I'm wary of most Internet marketers and gurus, because most of them are full of nonsense. Tom, and his book, delivers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Changing from Carbs to EFI?
This book is a must if you are thinking about updating your Carburator system to EFI.It goes from what tools you will need through the different sensors that are required and has detailted descriptions of many of the aftermarket EFI systems available.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginner tuner
I think this book did a good job of explaining the basics of EFI and how it works. Each chapter breaks down the pieces used to run EFI and why they do what they do. Then after explaining how it works he goes through some of the more popular EFI standalones and what their advantages are. Not a book thats going to help you tune out that nasty knock you get at part throttle, but good to explain how all the pieces to an EFI system works. I hear its a great warm up to his EFI classes also.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just an introduction
If you have done troubleshooting on a stock e.f.i system, you probably know most of this. If you know nothing at all, it's a start. This should have "BASIC" somewhere in the title so we are not mislead.

5-0 out of 5 stars You CAN learn to tune your EFI!
Read the book and follow the instructions to the letter and you can learn to tune your EFI. I did.Very clear and understandable.Even better, read the book and go to EFI University.Google it.

1-0 out of 5 stars only for beginners
I decided to return this book after only the first 30 minutes of thumbing through it. The book is well laid out and out of most of the books I've read concerning this subject, the author is very easy to understand and follow which makes it all the worse that the book didn't have more content dealing specifically with tuning (working with timing and fuel) of turbocharged applications and other aspects of such modifications. I agree with another review post stating the run-down of products offered out there currently in regards to engine management options and their pros and cons was excellent. Thus my review of how this book should be the first one someone buys that is just now getting into the subject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
The author has the ability to turn complex issues into simple concepts. It's very useful for those giving first steps in this subject and those who need refreshing their knowledge. I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars for readers outside EW field
EW101 is a compilation of articles published in the Journal of Electronic Defence, over several years. The level of treatment is semiquantitative. The basic methods in areas like jamming, decoys and simulations are expounded. Readers with an undergraduate background in engineering or science should be able to follow the text. People already in the Electronic Warfare field will find the discussion pretty elementary. But Adamy is writing for those outside the field.

The merit of this book is that it gives you familiarity with the key topics and ideas in EW. Enough to qualitatively follow a technical discussion. Or even perhaps, as the author suggests, for managers of EW engineers, who need to brush up on what their chaps are doing.

Adamy also usefully supplies references to more detailed texts and journals. There is a surprising amount of material out there that is declassified.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and very useful!
This book is an excellent reference for those profesionals or specialists who are involved in the Electronic Warfare (EW) world. It's also useful for those who want to learn more about this interesting, complex and important subject. As it can be demonstrated thru the history of the EW, it has played an important role in the military actions related with the use of the electromagnetic spectrum (communications, radar, Infrared, laser and more). I strongly recommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Digital Electronics: A Practical Approach (7th Edition)
Book works well in a classroom format when you have time to go over the various waveforms. The Instructor package has several useful items.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended for Digital Electronics
William Kleitz takes a more practical approach which will benefit you now and prepare you better for the future, if you prefer digital over analog. Although I was forced to use Floyd's edition in college, Kleitz goes much deeper in detail for designing digital circuits taking small steps to learning, which then all come together as one. Generally speaking, all logic tables, using simple gates, their behavior appears static in all text books which are currently published. However, Kleitz reveals very interesting concepts and ideas, which appealed my interest in reading his book.
My experience with troubleshooting digital circuits leads me to believe that this a better overall text, no question about it. His remarkable approach, and style of teaching should be noted by all, but with most digital textbooks, most of them don't go beyond simple logic predictions, and material that never leaves the classroom floor. If your seeking advanced digital concepts with basic fundamentals included, then your best bet, is the text I'm reviewing here today by William Kleitz. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Choice for Basic Electronics Theory
This is a book about basic electronics and the nitty-gritty of this science doesn't change over time.Integrated circuits aren't really basic electronics and neither is a lot of "modern" circuit design - there are many other book choices for that.

But if you want the basic science behind electronics - this is the best book you can get in my opinion. It is written in clear language for the average reader to understand. If you're a calculus wiz - this book isn't going to be your cup of tea.But ... if you're new to electronics and tend to struggle with some of the more difficult concepts - look no further as this book was really the core of basic electronics education for the U.S. Navy for many decades and the Navy trained THOUSANDS of technicians with the information in this book. The only way you could do better ... would be to get ahold of a set of the old Navy Electricity and Electronics Series Modules (also referred to as NEETS modules). That's basically a library of paperback books - each one devoted to a specific segment of electrical / electronic study - like COMPUTERS and Binary Logic, or Motors and Generators. Those modules are written in the same language as this book - tend to go a bit deeper into detail and are in nice digestible chunks.

Good luck with finding them though.

Even the section on vaccuum tubes in this book is a valuable exercise into electron science - and it's fun!And I still think electronic techs should be at least vaguely familiar with the principles of vaccuum tubes even in this day and age!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ancient
Lots of info about electronics during the 60's and 70's...poor choice if you are interested in IC's or anything even remotely recent.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent...
Considering the ancient date this book was published in, it still contains valuable information and surprisingly clear language.I guess the Navy really deosn't screw arond when it comes to writing clear instructions in electronics, as this book clearly proves.

The quality and breadth of information that this book lays out concerning electronics reminds me of this old Eastman textbook on vacuum tubes that I acquired a couple of years back. That book likewise is a gold mine of valuable knowledge, written with a crisp understandable writing style.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Sailor or hobbyist alike
I have used this book quite often since I started my journey with the Navy. This guide, coupled with a basic knowledge of electronics and electricity, will prove an invaluable aid to both inexperienced, andexperienced alike.I strongly recommend this book. ... Read more

Product Description
This book presents the reader, whether an electrical engineering student in power electronics or a design engineer, some typical power converter control problems and their basic digital solutions, based on the most widespread digital control techniques. The presentation is focused on different applications of the same power converter topology, the half-bridge voltage source inverter, considered both in its single- and three-phase implementation. This is chosen as the case study because, besides being simple and well known, it allows the discussion of a significant spectrum of the more frequently encountered digital control applications in power electronics, from digital pulse width modulation (DPWM) and space vector modulation (SVM), to inverter output current and voltage control. The book aims to serve two purposes: to give a basic, introductory knowledge of the digital control techniques applied to power converters, and to raise the interest for discrete time control theory, stimulating new developments in its application to switching power converters. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good but
I am an amature in electronics and have been waiting for this book to hit the book stores.I finally picked up a copy.I like the subjects covered. The content on at least some subjects leaves a little to be desired. There is a lot of verbal descriptiion but diagrams would have been helpful when discussing how to use controls on an oscilloscope, for instance.A fuzzy photo of an oscilloscope is shown, and then a detailed discussion is presented of how to use various dials, buttons and so on without any diagram showing where these controls are on the oscilloscope.Similar problems of what waveforms should look like without any diagrams, or photos of how they appear.
I am particularly concerned about the description of how to build your own waveform generator.A discussion of how to do this is given along with a parts list.A photo is then shown of the "assembled function generator".However, the photo shows that this is really a Canakit(www.canakit.com) funtion generator. No credit is given to Canakit for this photo and the Canakit does not appear to be the same assembled function generator as the one described in the text.
Unfortunately, the author does not wish to be contacted about any questions about what he has presented in this book, since he has given no method of contacting him.A brief search of the WEB did not show any way to contact him.
I realize that writing a book of this size and range of topics is quite a labor, and I will try to get any missing info from other sources.

2-0 out of 5 stars Meh-
I've seen better high end audio books. I'm certainly not a member of the aforementioned "Scientific School of Audio System Performance Analysis", the only instruments that can accurately measure sound quality are the ones on either side of your head. I listen to what my ears tell me sounds good, and generally, tubes sound good. Which is why this book is sort of a disappointment, you'd think that out of 80 projects there'd be at least one tube phono preamp, but unfortunately there are no tube amps, just a few rants about how tubes don't produce enough power. Who uses more than a watt anyway? Even the transistor amps presented aren't much better than what you could get from Rex or Circuit City, similar schematics could probably be found on the internet for free. Go ahead and buy it if that's the sort of thing you're into, but if its tubes you want, try Morgan Jones' "Building Valve Amplifiers", it doesn't have many schematics but it coversin great detail the layout and contruction of tube amps. Good schematics can be found on the intarnub.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tubes rule. Slone drools.
A good deal of this book is an attack on esoteric audio in general and vacuum tube equipment in particular. But just because Mr. Slone hates tubes (and he does, although he can't be honest with himself, like most fundies, and so has to attempt to disguise his real motives) doesn't change reality. Measurements aside, all other things being equal, tube equipment generally sounds better.

If you listen to good music at normal volume, in a normal house, the average power output of your amplifier is almost always between 10 and 500 milliwatts. You can prove this with a DMM that has at least a 20 kHz AC bandwidth and peak and averaging functions hooked across your speaker. The Class B Lin topology solid state amplifier with large amounts of global NFB, which Slone describes and advocates to the exclusion of all others, does very well at between 5 and 100 percent of its rated power, but is terrible at between .01 and 1 to 2 percent of rated power.

There are various circuits to work around the problem, but Slone ignores them. When you refuse to accept the problem, you can't be part of the solution.

There are several possible solutions. One is the venerable transformer coupled vacuum tube amplifier, which for all its technical flaws, does reproduce music beautifully. There are modern tube amps that are universally acknowledged to sound great, have long tube life (in the tens of thousands of hours) and have distortion measurements in the same class as most solid state amplifiers. There are also solid state amplifiers that use innovative circuits and careful device matching-semiconductors are inherently much more variable in device parameters than tubes, which Slone conveniently forgets to tell you-to "give good first watt" while still providing peak power reserves traditionally associated with solid state designs.

I have heard an amplifier built to Slone's schematic on Slone's PCBs-in fact I set it up on my company's distortion analyzer after hours-and it meets his published specs fully. Hooked to my Klipsch LaScalas it has all the sonic elegance of a Peavey CS-400 I happened to have on hand-it makes Blossom Dearie sound suspiciously like Louis Armstrong on her quietest passages, and Angel Romero sounds like Dick Dale is doubling up on his thumb lines in the distance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Twaddle, stuff, and nonsense
Basically this whole book is the effort of a hayseed electronics vendor to peddle his own kits of plain vanilla grade stereo equipment. With skilled electronic assemblers in America getting $8.30/hr (and equally skilled Asians getting that per day!) and components in hobby quantities bringing a 50 to 500 percent premium over what commercial buyers pay even in 100 piece quantities, he claims a hobbyist can better commercial grade designs in his hobby workshop cheaper.

This reminds me of Fred Willard's character in the excellent film, "A Mighty Wind". One of his catchphrases-"I Don't Think So!"-applies here.

These amp designs, apparently mostly from Douglas Self's books, are nothing special or unique: as someone else pointed out, if they were, there would be dozens of amplifiers of "Slone type" sold ,just as many companies made "Williamson style" amplifiers, without compensating DTN Williamson, during the early postwar hi-fi era.

About the only justification for homebrewing audio amps is to get a design offered commercially only as a "high end" piece at huge expense (and gross margin) or not at all. You can get an education, perhaps, but a breadboard project of a couple watts can give you that, and besides, audio amp design isn't exactly in big demand: the websites of High End, pro, and mainstream audio equipment manufacturers list continuing job vacancies for DSP software engineers but never analog designers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amplifiers and More
I bought this book after my great experience with Slone's High Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual. This is a fantastic book if you want to build your own amplifier "accessories", such as headphone amps, preamps, equalizers, and other types of signal processing devices. There is an interesting circuit for a phase-linear filter, which I built and works beautifully. It splits the audio signal up between the pre-amp and power amp into low, midrange, and high frequency spectrums. This avoids the phase shifts associated with conventional speaker crossover networks.
You'll need a power amp for each frequency spectrum, but that's no problem. You'll have so much fun building your own amps that you'll have plenty of them laying around. The resulting sound is absolutely fantastic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mid-fi with little explanation
This is an extension of Slone's earlier book and it is a little better, but not a lot. He reiterates everything he said earlier-ranging from opinion to nonsense-and then as before launches into his pet designs with little good explanation.

If you want to build a Class B semi-serious amplifier for instrument or PA or non-serious-listening use this will probably work, although there are a lot of old 70s and 80s designs readily available at your local library in old electronics and audio magazines.

If understanding the trends in serious audio work today is your goal, start with the "horses mouth" JAES paper "Tubes vs. Transistors: Is There A Difference?". This was hugely important because it was the first published paper in professional reviewed circles that addressed the possibility that traditional metrics such as THD,frequency range, and S/N might not fully address problems in professional audio. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for electronictechnicians.
This book is very helpful for anyone interested in troubleshooting electronic circuits. You don't have to go to college to learn electronics because this book has two years worth of college inside.I give this book five stars for it being such a useful book.

1-0 out of 5 stars beware.... i have an older version of this exact same text..
beware.. i have an older bersion of this exact same text... and it is all in electron flow... nowhere on the cover did it say it was so...

so most of your currents will be coming out of ground.. and going into the source.. (source as in like +12 line voltage driving a cascade of amplifiers.... and all the grounds at the bottom.. ur currents are coming from the ground.. up to the +12 line voltage... althought this is what electrons do.. in real life.. everyone works with conventional flow)

also.. since this book is a condensed version of two of his other books.. the topics are coverely slightly... i.e... the only BJT transistor biasing technique the author goes into is the VOLTAGE DIVIDER BIAS.. and even that.. he doesn't go into that much...

3-0 out of 5 stars It covers all the basics...
This book covers all the basics, but it doesn't go deep enough into the theory nor applications...

The problem is, this specific series of books covers 2 books, crunched up in the space of one... usually CIRCUITS is a separate textbook and Electronic Devices is a different textbook ..... but here Floyd squashed it into one book...

He even has separate series of textbooks.. where CIRCUITS and ELECTRONIC DEVICES are separate.... i suggest u buy the two separate ones... instead this condensed package.... those two are really good

Hi,

What's the difference between this book and ISBN# 0130163945 ?
They appear to be the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think its a Great Book
I had engineering years ago, but no electronics. I bought the 4th edition of this book and used it for self-study. I think its a very good book. I thought the examples were good and I worked a lot of the problems. I dont't recall many mistakes in the text or the answers. I also thought the section on the oscilloscope was good. I did have to read some of the material over several times to understand it. Chapter 19 Amplifiers and Oscillators was the hardest material to me. There was some material in that chapter that I never could figure out. I learned a lot from this book! ... Read more

Amazon.com
Most of us have been conditioned to approach the stock market as a long-term proposition. Many of the bestselling investment books coach readers to seek value in the best companies for long periods of time. Day trading, a recent phenomenon brought on by the reform of the financial markets and by the growth of online trading, goes in just the opposite direction. Instead of buying and holding stocks for years, successful day traders make money by dipping in and out of the market in a matter of minutes, finding profit in the tiny fractions between the bid and asking price of a stock or by catching the ups and downs of stock prices, which are driven by everything including the latest news from CNBC or speculation on what Alan Greenspan ate for breakfast.

In The Electronic Day Trader, authors Marc Friedfertig and George West explain the rationale behind day trading and offer strategies that can help you become successful at this fast game of speculation and timing. The authors write, "Day trading appears so deceptively easy, yet in reality it is a never-ending challenge. It is a game, an opportunity to match wits against the majority and thereby prosper. Day trading the stock market is the ultimate opportunity to speculate and the ultimate game."

The book goes into great detail about how the various stock exchanges work and shows how to get direct access to the NASDAQ through various electronic trading systems. If you're looking for an investment book that will help you build a retirement portfolio, look elsewhere. But if the daily fluctuations in the price of a stock make your heart beat faster and if you're seriously interested in honing your skill as day trader or want to become one, The Electronic Day Trader is definitely worth a look. --Harry C. Edwards Book Description

3-0 out of 5 stars Another book with old strategies, however....
There are some good ideas that you can rescue from this book. Therefore I think you should buy it since you can make much more money and certainly recoup your small investment if you employ 2 o 3 good tips.

Any way, from my point of view a trader must always read as much as he can. There is simply no other way to prepare one self for this difficult yet incredibly rewarding activity, but to learn and put into practice as much ideas as you can, at least by paper trading first.

The are a lot of books on the subject, however many of them where written 2 o 4 years ago and that kind of makes them obsolete in this constantly changing field.

The internet offers great places where you can learn more specialized trading techniques. One of those places that I have found to be worthy is ProfitableStockmarket dotcom.

They focus mainly on momentum trading and employ a rather simple yet effective strategy. I think that for a trader to survive and be profitable, its neccessary to keep their trading as simple as possible. To much confussion and technical indicators will most of the time make you slow in your decisions and froze you up when a good opportunity is right in front of you.

In the end it's all about buying or selling with out hesitation, and doing it over an over again according to your set ups.

1-0 out of 5 stars What became of Broadway Trading, LLC??
They went bankrupt, which is where you would be if you followed West and Friedfertig's methods. The book was a copy of Jack Schwager's Market Wizards series, due to the interviews conducted with "traders". You would be amazed if you saw some of these people and didnt read their words in print. Somehow they would not come off so sharp. Trust me!

Also do you think our authors would be able to spot "managerial talent" over a few aspiring proprietory traders? No they hire guys who have previously filed bankruptcy in their past and pipe up their accomplishments, which are a joke when you realized they bailed on creditors!!

Save yourself a dime and avoid it-if someone gives it to you, and you can't return it, use to start the BBQ grill. I could go on and on about SEC/NASD violation, getting short on a downtick, etc but I wont!

1-0 out of 5 stars Obsolete
This book completely fails to realistically convey the relative risks and profit potential for the average wannabe day trader.Im talking about someone with less than a few thousand to play the market.Unless you have big bucks and Level II quotes forget day trading unless you are very lucky. In the trading parlance, I wish I had a short position on this book at its current price, and could cover my short at the current used price! Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars good
good book , nice condition

2-0 out of 5 stars essentially obsolete
This book is essentially obsolete just three years after its publication.Stocks are now traded in decimals, and the spreads on heavily traded stocks are now almost nonexistent, sometimes being less than one cent a share.Consequently, you can forget about any of the strategies or information regarding "pocketing the spread", "getting between the spread", etc. With the proliferation of ECN trading, the influence of the market makers in a stock has been markedly reduced. In a stock that trades 80 million shares per day, a market maker with a 100,000 share block is not going to be able to move the stock significantly, and ECN trading can overwhelm his influence.Likewise, information gleaned from the Level II screen, while still useful if one knows what to look for, is no longer the Holy Grail. Also, day trading firms, like the authors' "Broadway Trading" are on the way to extinction, now that some big online brokers offer direct-access trades for less than a quarter of what day trading firms charge, as well as offering free Level II quotes and other information not available to the day trading firms.

While the book contains a few nuggets of trading info, it was not written in a logical, easy to follow manner. As has always been the case, aspiring traders need to study the markets intensely and develop their own trading techniques; they cannot expect that any book will teach them how to be successful in a field where very few people ever succeed. ... Book Description
Power Electronics; Principles and Applications guides the reader through the circuit analysis techniques in the design, analysis and fabrication of power electronics for consumer, and commercial applications as well as those unique to industrial manufacturing.Included are composite high-voltage amplifiers, power op amps, linear audio power ICs, MOSFETs used in class AB amplifiers and in power switches, switching power supplies, thyristors and thyristor control circuits.Ideal for use in ABET-accredited engineering technology programs, the book adds to the classical industrial power control a rare mix of electronics designed to deliver power to consumer and commercial loads such as audio systems, and the management of power for the explosion of hand-held devices. How a power circuit is built is as critical as the parts that are selected. Both protoboard and printed circuit board layout principles are explained with detailed, step-by-step illustrations, photographs and lots of lab practice. Microprocessors are pervasive; in garage door openers, microwave oven, refrigerators, faxes, printers, copiers, and many toys.Power electronics are needed to follow their commands, delivering hundreds of milliamps to tens of amps to the motors, valves, heaters and lights that we use.A variety of low and high side switches, switch drivers and H bridges are illustrated.Buck, boost, flyback and line-powered switching power supplies are explained, design techniques and special purpose IC explored in detail, and practical laboratory exercises provided. Additional chapters feature circuit design simulations and lab exercises that offer practice in the design, analysis, fabrication and testing of classical industrial thyristor-based conversion and motor drive circuits. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
The ppi is far to small to enlarge.I had hoped to use the frames for digital scrapbooking, but the images are not suitable for that purpose.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any art project.
This book was great for any art project. I use the easy to use cd-rom to create borders for invitations, brochures, ads, labels, and so much more. The only complaint I have is there are alot of repeat of the same design, I believe they are meant to be different sizes but I found them unnessesary. Other than that I loved it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great images, poorly delivered
These are beautiful and very useful images - great for invitations, menus and the like. A wide range of shapes and styles within Art Nouveau - some Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired stylised roses, and more French Belle-Epoch style curvilinear designs as well. I WOULD have given this 5 stars if it weren't for the actual files on the CD.

The 'jpegs and gifs ready for web delivery' are tiny - about the same size as in the book, whereas I would have thought using them on the web would have been... well, as a border. Big enough to contain something like text, for example. No such luck - they're only about 150 pixels across. What good is a frame/border that small?

The tifs are much larger, at a printable resolution of 600dpi and about 1500 pixels across - but this is where it stunned me. They've been reduced to 2 colours, black and white. Anyone who's worked with graphics at all knows that to get the appearance of curves and diagonals, you need at least 16 colours of greyscale to 'anti-alias'. Technical definitions aside, what it means is that they appear horribly jagged. Considering that curves are what Art Nouveau is all about, this seems particularly ironic.

Even the eps files have had this same treatment - they're not vectors, they're 2 colour bitmaps. Which means to use them, you need to feather the edges to make them look less jagged, or...

I suggest scanning from the book. I know it defeats the purpose of buying a book that has a CD with it, but they're really beautiful images and worthwhile using. They scan well, as they're on good quality paper and printed only on one side of the paper.

I'm more than a little annoyed that the pitch suggests they're ready-to-use in a variety of formats, when the grave error of reducing all of the formats to 2-colours has rendered them pretty much unusable from CD.

I've just bought about 20 of the Dover book-CD sets, and they're not all like this - I'll slowly work my way through and write a review of each after trying to actually use the files, in the hope that it helps people to decide which ones are the better ones to buy. There are new ones coming out all the time - let's hope that they're not all as shoddily treated as the files on this CD.

Dover, what were you thinking? These designs deserved much better treatment. This is from the Electronic Clip Art series - doesn't anyone actually try using the files after the CD's been made?
