5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the writing and get with the concepts!
This is book has really helped me navigate a difficult period of my life. It's not well written, in fact it's downright hokey, and if a friend who I really admire hadn't given it to me I wouldn't have read the whole thing. But I am extremely glad that I did. Maybe I was just ready for it, but this has been a fantastic tool for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Leadership
Like many people, I rushed through the first reading of this book because the story was so compelling. The second time through, I read it more like a business or personal development book. I was more thorough and took the time to go to the website and listen to/view the many free audio and video tapes, etc. For what you get included in the proce of the book, it is an amazing bargain. But the whole idea of energy and how we use it in interacting with people and groups brings together many recent theories of management and of human interaction. The synthesis goes beyond other viepoints and is, IMHO, the most up-to-date, comprehensive book on managing yourself and how that affects your interactions with people.Buy it and read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Leadership.....Outstanding!
Energy Leadership is an outstanding book.It is very instructive. The "Energy Leadership Bonuses" feature, which allows a reader to access [...] and obtain more information, greatly enhances the power and value that this book provides in its entirety. The definition and demonstration of "Breakthrough Laser Coaching" is so clear! This book has definitely helped me to become a better coach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Leadership
This is an amazing self-improvement book that is written in the form of a fable. It literally provides a blueprint to raising consciousness and self-awareness in a business environment and in life (they're inextricably connected), and makes a complicated subject down-to-earth and very accessible. It's well-written and filled with lots of interesting stories that elucidate the process. The author uses empowerment principles that are easy to remember and are a great way to keep his ideas in mind throughout the day.He also gives links to a web site with much more information.Good stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book
As a coach I have not found a better description of the coaching process, how it works and how effective it can be.Dr. Schneider is brilliant in understanding and showing how people relate to one another. The book is a must read for anyone who wants to improve their skills in human interaction.Just a few of the basic techniques he illustrates can improve a person's interpersonal skills greatly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This book is an excellent resource for those interested in a good initial exposure to renewable energy. Concepts are clearly explained, and the colorful graphics add to the overall appeal. Although the book centers on implementation of technologies in Britain, this should not limit its relevance. In fact, many of the technologies that may not be as economically viable in the U.S. and other countries, such as wave and tidal power, receive a thorough treatment in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
See my review of the companion book "Energy Systems and Sustainability".These two books are excellent and I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive book on all modern renewable energy sources
I used this book as a primary text for a course on "Energy & the Environment" where we dealt with all current and future methods of energy production and their effect on the environment.

This book is by far the best and easiest to read, whilst still containing accurate and complete information and data (though most of the data is based on the UK). It contains relevant formulas and mathematical information but is not too technical as to leave the reader jumping through numbers.

I've given this book 5 stars, because I couldn't find any flaw in it. It's a MUST have for any one interested in renewable energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing!
This book has literally changed my life, it is so amazing! So many people have noticed my new attitude and have asked what my secret is. When I tell people about this book they go out and buy it. And in time they too feel it has changed their life. This has improved my health as well as my personal, professional, and spiritual aspects of my life. The strategies seem simple, sometimes too simple. But they are so effective and if you do not practice them regularly you will not experience the wonderful things that can happen in your life. I have read many other books about positive energy, but this particular book seems to be the most practical and easily applicable to daily life. And you see immediate results! I strongly recommend that you take these strategies and make them a part of who you are as a person. Think positively, be appreciative, believe in yourself! Then you will experience a whole new world and wonder why you didn't do this sooner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!
I love this book.. very good for your sorting out who or what you do not
need in your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read for the Busy Person
This book is a great read for the busy person.Jon Gordon's tips are easy to implement and do help you get the energy you need to blast through your day.

Even though I work with a large number of people, there are many similarities between them. The majority want to feel better and get more energy. Those are number one and number two on the list.Gordon's book supplies anyone with these two needs the answers that work!

When I first picked up the book, I must admit, I thought there couldn't be anything in there that I didn't know myself. After a read or two I was wrong and I started implementing some of the principles for awesome results.(Have you seen me speak live?!If you have, you know what I'm talking about!)

I'm not going to spoil it for Jon here, but Tip # 39 is worth the entire price of the book and more!I let all my clients know about it and it helps them reach optimal health regardless of how busy they are.

Get it and get energized!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good general introduction but needs more case studies
It is now a tautology to say that energy derivatives are very important financial instruments. Energizing a market of billions of dollars, they are useful to many different organizations and find their place in myriads of both business and personal portfolios. This book is written for those readers who are just entering the field of energy derivatives, but yet who still have a background in other areas of financial engineering. It emphasizes risk minimization, and also gives some of the author's unique perspective on the subject. Only the first six chapters were read by this reviewer and so only these will be reviewed here.

The first chapter of the book discusses the general properties of energy derivatives and the concept of risk management. The author distinguishes between `quantitative' analysis, which emphasizes the construction of models that replicate market behavior, and `fundamental' analysis, which is an attempt to understand and describe market behavior in terms of the economics of supply and demand. The author emphasizes fundamental analysis in the book. She also outlines what makes energy derivatives unique in their analysis, i.e. what makes them different from interest rate and equity markets in terms of these different analysis categories. Energy markets exhibit stronger mean reversion, she argues, and supply constraints can "shock" the system. These differences motivate the introduction of the topics of `convenience yield' and seasonality that do not have to be used in other types of markets.

Chapter 2 gets into the actual construction of financial models, with the author emphasizing the need for effective benchmarking of these models. She constructs some elementary stochastic price models and introduces some of the basic modeling terminology to be used in the book. One of these concepts is the `convenience yield' that represents the benefit that a holder of a commodity receives by holding the commodity, and is a measure of the balance between the available supply and the existing demand. Defining the convenience yield is difficult, but dominates the mathematical modeling of the energy markets. The author spends a fair amount of time discussing the mean-reversion process with more to come in later chapters. She also discusses the difference between yield and forward rate curves, a forward curve geared toward short-term interest rates, while a yield curve is a discount rate curve representing average rates from the present to points along the time axis.

In chapter 3 the author discusses some of the mathematical/statistical tools involved in energy derivatives, with the analysis of time series and distribution analysis being the two dominant tools that are examined. Time series are used to monitor day-to-day changes in prices, while distribution analysis deals with price levels over extended intervals of time. The material in the chapter is standard, and should be helpful to readers who need a review of it.

Chapter 4 is an introduction to the modeling of spot prices, with the assumption that supply and demand effects converge in the spot market prices. Derivative contracts are bought and sold with the belief that this convergence holds. After a quick look at actual time series of spot prices, the author constructs a lognormal price model and two mean-reverting models. Lognormal price models are of course standard constructions in financial engineering, and are popular for their simplicity and for enforcing positive-definiteness. Negative autocorrelation between spot prices are characteristic of energy markets, and is satisfied in mean-reverting models. The author also introduces one of her models, a two-factor model, with the first factor being the spot price, and the second factor a long-term equilibrium price, which when the latter is zero gives a single-factor model for the energy commodity spot price. Time series analysis is used to obtain the model parameters and distribution analysis is used to test the models over extended time periods. The distribution analysis involves Monte Carlo simulation, and the results showing the differences between actual and sample model simulated distributions.

Recognizing the importance of forward prices in derivatives pricing and risk management, the author gives a detailed treatment of them in chapter 5. The author points out, interestingly, that there is no correlation between energy futures prices to interest rates in the energy commodity markets. The futures and forward prices are valued in an identical manner in energy markets, and energy future price and forward price can be used interchangeably. She also uses the no-arbitrage market condition to show that spot and forward prices are different, and derives partial differential equations for the forward price, both with and without dividends.

Chapter 6 is extremely important, especially for the development of practical trading strategies, for it concerns measures of volatility for price processes. The volatility of the spot price gives information about the degree of randomness in the returns of the spot price over short intervals of time. Traders are of course very interested in volatilities, since the width of the price distribution is related to the probability of the option expiring in-the-money. This is well-known in financial modeling of derivatives, but there are some peculiarities in energy markets, such as "volatility term structure", that make the modeling process more difficult. The author discusses how to calculate historical, market-implied, and model-implied volatilities, and introduces the (two-dimensional) `discrete volatility matrix', the latter of which is due to the author. Several justifications are given for using a two-dimensional matrix of volatilities rather than a single-volatility term structure. The author does not however give any practical reasons for using this matrix or case studies that would illustrate its advantages. Reference is given to a commercial product that uses it, but it would have been helpful to the reader if the author had given more details on its use in practical everyday trading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Textbook
I've been teaching at a community college for 16 years in the field of energy efficiency, Passive solar, building science, healthy homes, sustainability, green issues.I have used thisbook and its earlier versions in my classes because it gives the best science basis for energy. It is also written by a physics professor as a textbook, with review and questions at the end of each chapter.

This book shows the "systems efficiency" of energy sources, which is the correct way to examine any proposed alternative energy. This is the way many of these topics is presented in other books.I like the book also because it starts at the beginning--physics--in the discussion of energy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not excellant...
This pertains to the 4th edition (published 2005). The material is solid and informative, but the photos are all black and white. I find this unacceptable in the twenty first century. Additionally, many of the photos are of very poor quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for just about anyone
I purchased this Book as a gift for my father. He loves to build things, and I thought introducing him to the wave of the future in engineering through "Solar Energy Projects for the Evil Genius" would be a fun way to learn something new.I was right. He loved it.I skimmed through the book, and it has detailed instructions, pictures, and tons of really great and practical ideas and projects...combined with some slightly rebellious ones.It truly is an original book and alot of fun..Highly recommended for those that like to create and build.

5-0 out of 5 stars Increasing depth of understanding.
I have been a solar electric and solar hot water installer for 3 years.I can design and install a system with ease and confidence, but the projects in this book increased my understanding to a whole new level. It was like learning about solar from the inside out.I always enjoy it when I can learn about something I know well from a different angle. Some of my friends bought the book for themselves after thumbing through my copy.I recommend this book for anyone who likes to have a hands on approach to solar in many different areas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solar Energy Great Genius!
The author of this book was 19 years old when he published it. What an amazing 19 year old! He truly is a genius! My 15 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this book. One amazing project after another. Easy to understand instructions, easy to obtain materials--the author tells you how to order what you don't have--, and projects are easy to do.I especially liked the solar ice maker! I strongly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting and timely entry in the Evil Genius series
This book provides the fundamentals of working with solar energy to the extent that you can build the projects included in the book. The projects range from simple science fair type projects to converting a home to run on solar electricity. This book follows the pattern of the other books in the series. There is a short section describing the theory of operation of each project followed by schematics, parts lists, and detailed instructions. All of the projects are the size of table-tops, but they can be enlarged to scale if needed.

The book begins by discussing the reasons to develop devices powered bysolar energy. Economics and efficiency comparisons are made to standard energy sources. Among the projects discussed are two model solar water heating systems, a solar oven for cooking food, a basic solar water distiller, and a simple solar furnace. The solar furnace generates temperatures high enough that paper products can be ignited and low temperature metals can be liquified. Information is included on commercial solar furnaces. Next readers are shown how to build a simple thermoelectric generator that transforms heat into electricity. You are shown how to power the generator using the solar furnace from a previous chapter. Next readers are shown how to build a homemade photovoltaic cell using a copper sheet. Photovoltaic cells generate electricity directly from sunlight. This is followed by an advanced photovotaic cell construction project. Here you make a solar cell that uses photochemistry to mimic photosynthesis using photosensitive dyes that promise cheap solar electric power. The reader is taught how to build a solar engine, which is useful for tasks such as pumping water for storage and irrigation.Solar collector efficiency can be improved by tracking the sun, and to that end the author includes a simple electrical feedback system that tracks the sun across the sky. Also included are five or six smaller projects to more fully demonstrate the capabilities of solar energy. These include a rechargeable flashlight, special lights for illuminating a walkway, and simple solar cells. The following is the table of contents:

Chapter 1. Why solar?
Chapter 2. The Solar Resource
Chapter 3. Positioning Your Solar Devices
Chapter 4. Solar Heating
Chapter 5. Solar Cooling
Chapter 6. Solar Cooking
Chapter 7. Solar Stills
Chapter 8. Solar Collectors
Chapter 9. Solar Pumping
Chapter 10. Solar Photovoltaics
Chapter 11. Photochemical Solar Cells
Chapter 12. Solar Engines
Chapter 13. Solar Electrical Projects
Chapter 14. Tracking the Sun
Chapter 15. Solar Transport
Chapter 16. Solar Robotics?
Chapter 17. Solar Hydrogen Partnership
Chapter 18: Photosynthesis--Fuel from the Sun
Appendix A: Solar Projects on the Web
Appendix B: Supplier's Index

This book isn't by any means a textbook on solar engineering, but it is a great projects book to accompany the standard texts on the subject that almost never provide the kind of practical experience you can get by building the projects in this unique little book. If you want a good textbook to supplement this book of projects, I heartily recommend "Principles of Solar Engineering" by Goswami. That book has all of the mathematics and theory that really don't fit into this one. That text assumes little in the realm of mathematical maturity, but if you are lacking prior knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and thermal circuits, you might find yourself a bit lost. ... Book Description
Obesity is reaching alarming proportions. In this insightful new approach to understanding why this is happening, acclaimed mood scientist Robert Thayer offers a new appreciation of the real cause--emotional eating. But this is not just emotional eating as previously known; rather it is a new scientific analysis of exactly how different moods affect eating. He shows how unprecedented stress in society and epidemic levels of depression have led people to food as a poor means of managing mood. In this original approach, Thayer describes how people's daily energy and tension variations occur, and how this knowledge helps overcome the urge to eat the wrong food and to achieve the goal of "calm energy." Also, in this most up-to-date scientific analysis of exercise and mood, he shows how physical activity is essential to psychological and physical health, yet why it is resisted. Thayer's work has been discussed in hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles, and here he outlines in detail the cutting-edge theories and scientific research findings that have generated this extensive media attention. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Calm Energy Book
Excellent read, very informative.Great for people struggling with moods and their desire to eat based on those moods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book on food and mood !
Ever dived into a chocolate cake after a stressful day at the office? Had your way with a bag of chips after fighting with the kids? Stuffed down more than your share of greasy fried food when you were feeling low?

Many of us are stress overeaters. And there are a number of books on the market that mention how we have emotional roadblocks that keep us from becoming slim. But few of these books discuss this issue in the depth that "Calm Energy" does.
And few give helpful solutions.

The author Robert Thayer Ph.D describes in detail how when we are feeling tense, tired, or depressed we often turn to high fat sugary foods. Citing a number of studies Thayer explains why we do this.

Then Thayer explains simple solutions. According to Thayer, "exercise is the single best way of coping with the tension and fatigue that inevitably result from stress." He describes simple techniques you can do when your urge to eat, what you don't need seems to overwhelm your body. A brisk 5 minute walk is one idea.

One paragraph in the book made a huge impact. Thayer recounts how a taxicab driver was very calm despite bad traffic, radio calls etc. The driver used worrybeads to release tension. According to Thayer small systemic movements like moving beads or squeezing soft rubbery objects can help relax your body.
I quickly hijacked my 14 year olds stringed bead bracelet and by manipulating the beads slowly released some stress and managed to avoid a trip to the kitchen to gobble up some goodies I didn't need! Simple, effective technique that I will use more often.

Overall an excellent look at the mood food connection with super tips on what you can do to destress and become healthier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
While a bit repetitive in the beginning, I loved this book! It provides a framework for thinking about your behavior based on biologically-driven moods. It makes you more aware of your own moods, what causes them, and how they, in turn, influence your behavior (and not only in terms of food and exercise).

The author addresses the perplexing question of why people who know better still eat unhealthfully and do not exercise. I have often wondered myself, if I know exercise or meditation or whatever makes me feel so much better, why don't I just do it everyday? The concept of Calm-Energy vs. Tense-Tiredness is very convincing and useful. Also, the book puts the idea of "emotional eating" in it's larger context. Compared to the treatment emotional eating gets in the popular media, this is much more interesting and makes it seem very possible to intervene and change habits.

This is not a standard self-help book and doesn't give the clearest instructions on how to apply all this information to your everyday life. Rather, it gives you knowledge, understanding, awareness and--with the extensive footnotes and references to research--confidence that this guy really knows what he's talking about. I'm planning to read his "The Origin of Everyday Moods" next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the connection with Calm
Here is a great read for folks from all walks and talks of life.I first went searching for ways to feel better--the food-sleep connection is very compelling even though everybody has that hunch.Thayer gently sells you on taking action in even small steps. Then I applied his ideas to improving my success at the weekly poker game.Bingo, or flush, it works there too.Academically sound and enjoyable, toss away your make a million books and manage your insides first. This one is a winner even if you occasionally have a bad beat along the way! ... Book Description
Renewable energy is the key to the future of humankind.Wind power, solar (photovoltaic) energy, geothermal power, and other forms of renewables can help solve our most pressing environmental problems, including global climate change. But how do we move these promising technologies out of the laboratory and into widespread use?Renewable Energy Policy shows what public policy can—and cannot—do to help tap renewables' promise.

Renewable Energy Policy takes a pragmatic, nuts-and-bolts look at the myriad government efforts to promote renewables, and reports back on what works, what doesn't, and why.In clear, jargon-free language, Renewable Energy Policy shows how and why some policies have achieved impressive results, and others have failed. Skillfully interweaving technology, economics, and politics, Paul Komor reveals how the best of policy ideas often end up with unintended results.

If you want to know how much wind power really costs (Chapter 2), why Germany's renewables laws are "crude but effective" (Chapter 8), or the three reasons why the UK's green energy market is a flop (Chapter 4), then you need to read Renewable Energy Policy.

"Mr. Komor's writing style is both clear and engaging. This book works well as a primer for any energy analyst not already deeply involved in renewable energy policy matters or as a textbook for college courses on energy policy or renewable energy economics."
Blair G. Swezey, Principal Policy Advisor, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, CO.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good book for the designer of energy risk managment tools
If you develop computer code in this field it could be a help, but if you are more interested in knowing more about the ways to avoid risk in the energy business I would recommend another book. There are also not enough practical examples to give a good understanding of the principles.

Dynamic hedging is not explained to the extent wanted. The examples are also not very clear.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the average industry professional
The authors have written a very detailed, well structured text on the different models and developments in the power and fuel markets. It's a very complex, mathematical analysis of the different techniques being used, and the text may lose a number of readers in the overly rigorous formulations. For those involved in risk management, market modeling, or asset management, the book would be a good secondary or tertiary read after you've established a sound understanding of stochastic models and current hedging and pricing techniques in the marketplace. For the layman in the industry, the book will be far too heavy and not worth the read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview
The management of risk in the context of energy or weather is quite different than in other contexts, due to the peculiarities of the data that occurs in energy prices. The high volatility of energy prices can range, as the authors of this book point out, between 50-100% for gas, to 100-500% for electricity. No doubt this kind of volatility, and other properties such as correlations and mean reversion, entails that some different mathematical strategies for modeling energy derivatives be devised. The authors give a good tour of some of these strategies, and anyone interested in energy derivatives will gain a lot of insight into their modeling when reading this book. Due to space constraints, only chapters 5 and 7, which this reviewer considered the most important of the book, will be reviewed here.

In chapter 5 the author presents techniques for energy modeling that go beyond the used of the convenience yield by using forward pricing techniques. The goal is to describe the dynamics of future contract prices that takes into account the correlations with other futures, and not on the price evolution of a single contract. Thus it is the `forward curve' that is relevant for obtaining a useable model for derivative cash flow. The HJM model is presented as one of these, with changes in the forward curve over a particular time interval represented as a linear combination of random perturbations. For energy markets, each perturbation is specified by a deterministic shape function multiplied by a Gaussian factor. The unobservability of the factors determining the forward curve evolution makes the use of historical data mandatory if the parameters are to be estimated. But lack of sufficient historical data and its nonstationarity complicate this estimation. The authors discuss the Schwartz-Smith multi-factor model as an example of a forward curve dynamics model and give some solutions. They then move on to a model that specifies the dynamics for only the contracts that are actually traded, which in the literature are called `market models.' The model they actually discuss is a multivariate geometric Brownian motion representation of the forward curve dynamics, where the volatility and drift functions are linear functions of the forward prices. The authors then derive the `discrete string models', where it is assumed that the number of factors is equal to the number of contracts, and the random factors are governed by ordinary Brownian motion. String models are represented as having the advantage of being able to directly observe the factors in the historical data. The authors apply string models to multi-commodity cases, and discuss an example for monthly forward prices. They show how to match the current forward curve, the option prices, and the correlation structure for this model.

The discussion in chapter 7 revolves around finding better models for the dynamics of power prices that capture the special properties of energy prices, such as mean reversion and seasonality, and the need for stable models. They therefore introduce `hybrid models', which they claim give a more natural representation of the dynamics of power prices, make use of nonprice forward-looking information, and can take the historical data on power prices and then extend it to information on fuel prices, outages, etc. The construction of these models is based on the use of nonlinear transformations on a collection of random variables. The random variables are essentially the system demand, natural gas and oil price, outages, emission prices, and weather at a particular time. The power price then can be written as a function of the dynamics of these factors, the latter written by the authors in terms of the corresponding tradables. Recognizing that hedging cannot be done on some of these factors, they adjust the power price formula so that the power tradables, i.e. the forwards and option prices, are exactly matched. This matching transformation is chosen so that if the forward contracts and options are priced using the adjusted formula, one recovers the exact current prices. The model, as the authors summarize it, is an attempt to explain the behavior of the tradables in terms of the evolution of the underlying factors and static adjustments to the terminal probability distribution. Historical information on the tradables and spot products is not used to calibrate the model, but it is used to validate the model. The authors distinguish between `reduced-form' hybrid models, where the transformation is calibrated from the historical prices, and `fundamental' hybrid models, where the transformation is calibrated from the market structure and is only tested on the historical prices. The authors discuss an example of a reduced-form hybrid model that is heavily parametrized, but has the advantage of using price data more efficiently. The rest of the chapter concentrates on fundamental hybrid models, with the author first discussing how power prices are formed in competitive markets. They consider a typical pool market, with the price determined via auction mechanisms. The authors then try to identify and characterize the underlying random variables that actually affect power prices. The time series for the price of power is written in terms of the demand using a `bid stack' function. The bid stack function is approximated by a `generation stack' that is found for a given time by sorting generation units by their generation costs. This approximation is checked by comparing the marginal generation costs generated by the generation stack with the distribution of power prices determined by the time series via the bid stack. There should be agreement in both approaches between the higher order moments. This comparison forms the basis of the authors' hybrid approach to modeling power prices. A transformation is found which relates the marginal generation costs to the distribution of power prices with the requirement that the prices of market instruments used for calibration are matched, and the higher moments are (approximately) preserved. The transformation is not unique, and in fact a family of transformations induced by the multiplication and stack scaling operators can be found.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent subject treatment
Until now there were a handful of papers, precious few books, and mostly inside proprietary models and experience that dealt with the complex subject of power trading and all its flavors. This book provides a nice summary of many of the present issues. The treatment of the subject is somewhat mathematically rigorous, so the book might not be for traders as much as it is for quants or risk managers.

To me, the greatest strength of the book lies in its fairly detailed analysis of what DOESN'T work, i.e. why common models and methods from the financial and other commodity realms can not be successfully grafted onto the energy market without risking significant valuation and cash flow prediction errors. The hybrid model they formulate towards the end of the book is very similar to Skantze and Ilic (2001).The departure from most previous models is that they attempt to use the markets to formulate and calibrate the structure instead of relying too much on past historical price/load data, which without some empirical understanding of the underlying processes, is fraught with danger due to rapidly evolving nature of the power market (or at least once rapidly evolving--it seems to be a little static at the moment).

Some familiarity with the market and stochastic/statistical mathematics is assumed.References to specific topics and more in depth analysis of particular subjects are good. The authors have a grip on real-world trading, risk, and cashflow issues, which makes this a useful reference for just about anyone associated with those aspects of the power market.I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book

Book Description
In order to understand why people pray, The Energy of Prayer examines the applications and effectiveness of prayer in Buddhist and other spiritual traditions. Arguing that prayer is not about asking some external force for what we need, but about creating an internal environment in which it is easier to get what we want, the book introduces several methods of prayer. These methods are meditative in nature and reenvision prayer as an inclusive, accessible practice that is not tied to a particular religious or spiritual affiliation, but rather that can help anyone create a healthy life through the power of awareness and intention. Ultimately, author Thich Nhat Hanh presents prayer as more than just relaxation: is it a way to satisfy the basic human need to make a connection with something larger than our everyday self. Included are visualization and breathing exercises as well as a rich sampling of prayers, chants, and invocations from the Buddhist tradition. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful words from an old friend
By this time I am into the double digits on Thich Nhat Hanh books and do,
indeed, feel he is an old friend. Published in 2006, this book is from a
compilation of talks given ten years earlier. Many of its themes will be
familiar to those who have read other books by him on meditation. In this volume, I found particularly interesting his openness/comparison of Buddhism to other religious practices, including Buddhist and Christian parallels in The Lord's Prayer. The author takes a quite broad view of the subject of prayer, which I find inviting and accessible. This fits with his always encouraging view that a calmer, more contemplative life is available
to us all.

Most people are probably aware of the basic purpose and potential health benefits of acupuncture and acupressure. Energy tapping follows the same basic premises of these two types of therapy. The only differences are that energy tapping looks at only 17 median points on the body, mostly located in the face, hand, and upper chest areas. Moreover, instead of applying pressure or using specialized needles, energy tapping as the name suggests, consists of light tapping on these areas. This process is so simple that the reader can easily do the therapy on him or herself as needed for help with everything from anxiety and depression through reduction of cravings and help with weight loss to improving relationships and dealing with trauma.

The exercises set out in Energy Tapping are simple to do by following the instructions and using the various illustrated charts in each section of the book. Moreover, the reader will find some relief even with the very first set of therapies.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bland material with a complicated presentaion.
I found this book mildly interesting. There is a lot of science in here, but frankly,it was a bit much for me.The setup for the experiments was detailed, detailed to the point of tedium.By the time I got to reading the actual results I wasworn out and ready to move on to the next experiment. Unfortunately for my tastes, it was more of the same. The book really lacked any WOW factor for me, and rarely was I fascinated or intrigued. In all fairness to the author, he is a scientist through and through, and seems to be meticulous in his adherence to scientific principles of experimentation.

I am guessing this book may have real appeal for the scientist or those who reject anecdote and are in need of graphs and charts for them to be interested or persuaded. But not for me, and I am guessing not for the average reader.

Book Description
Energy psychology is a scientifically validated body ofresearch and core set of treatment techniques that conceptualizes thoughts, feelings, emotions, and other psychological phenomena as manifestations ofenergy working though the system of the human body. If some psychologicalphenomenon is causing pain, distress, or a lack of function to anindividual, the somatic techniques of energy psychology work to disrupt theflow of energy causing that phenomenon. One of the more common techniques in the energy psychology repertoire iscalled energy tapping, a practice, similar to acupressure, that involvesmanipulating and tapping certain points along the body's energy meridiansto influence psychological events. Author Fred Gallo developed energytapping into a self-care program for a variety of common psychologicalcomplaints in his book Energy Tapping. Now, in this new book, he appliesthe technique specifically to recovering from acute trauma andpost-traumatic stress symptoms.

Energy Tapping for Trauma offers a concise overview of how traumaaffects us and why certain aspects of traumatic experience can linger aspost-traumatic stress. In my 26 years as a chiropractor, I've seen daily the need to release emotional stress from my patients (and myself) to achieve the best healing results, but didn't have the ready means until energy psychology came along.Since I've recently chosen to focus on meridian therapy for the relief of PTSD symptoms, Dr. Gallo's book will serve as a splendid major resource for my practice.I am especially delighted that he doesn't talk simply about clearing the stuck patterns, but covers in detail energy methods of "Reconnecting to and Empowering Your Life" (chap. 7).

Pioneers, such as Fred Gallo, are leading the way in new understanding of what makes us tick, and what makes us sick, helping us to reclaim our inherent wholeness and joy of life.He suggests that if each of us used these energy tools ourselves, and then shared them with six others to use, who then each shared them with six others...Wow! Just imagine the possibilities!Thank you, Fred.

'Energy Psychology' is a term that refers to a set of treatment techniques that conceptualize thoughts, feelings, emotions, and other psychological phenomena as manifestations of energy working through the system of the human body. If a psychological phenomenon is causing pain, distress, or a lack of function to an individual, the somatic techniques of energy psychology can work to disrupt the flow of energy causing that phenomenon. One of the principal techniques arising from energy psychology is 'energy tapping' -- a practice similar to acupressure and involves manipulating and tapping certain points along the body's energy meridians to influence psychological events. In "Energy Tapping For Trauma", clinical psychologist Fred P. Gallo presents a concise overview of just how trauma affects people and why certain aspects of traumatic experience can linger as post traumatic stress. Gallo then goes on to apply the technique of energy tapping to alleviating and recovering from acute trauma and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Thoughtful, reasoned, based upon sound research and exceptionally well written, "Energy Tapping For Trauma" is a strongly recommended addition to academic library Medical and Psychology reference collections, as well as being very appropriate and informative for the non-specialist general reader with an interest in treating psychological trauma and post-traumatic stress syndromes.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential Guide to Resolving Emotional Trauma and Boosting Health
In this book, Fred Gallo, who coined the term Energy Psychology or EP to describe a remarkable new generation of rapid and effective treatments for psychological and physical problems, provides an erudite summary of EP treatments for trauma. Unresolved emotional trauma has been shown to correlate highly with every major disease, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and depression. Releasing that trauma is key to healing. With vast experience as a clinical psychologist, as well as an astute grasp of the physiological and pharmacological mechanisms at work in emotional states, Gallo begins by painting a detailed and accurate depiction of trauma in lay language. He summarizes the conventional and alternative treatments for emotional stress, especially posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD, and reviews the strengths and limitations of each. He then describes several techniques drawn from EP which he has found to be effective. After reviewing all scientific studies and literature on EP for my own book, The Genie in Your Genes: Epigenetic Medicine and the New Biology of Intention, I was impressed to find that Gallo has taken even the best existing EP methods a step further. Yet as he thinks through the issues and applies them with his clients, that next step turns out to be even simpler than the older methods. With a generation of veterans returning from Iraq, America is desperately in need of an effective method of treating PTSD. And even people who have never seen combat often demonstrate a large collection of unresolved emotional traumas, which can live on to compromise their health and happiness. I know of no better way to treat either kind of situation than with this brilliant new synthesis from the master of Energy Psychology. ...
