5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This has been an excellent resource for me while struggling with personal boundaries, self-doubt, or assertiveness issues. I love how Dr. Orloff puts everything into plain and simple terms, easily understood and put into practice. The information here has completely changed my life and my relationships for the best. I recommend it for anyone who finds themselves stuck in relationships with people that drain them, or that seem to be one-way.

Because the information here is so intuitive, it almost seems familiar and so "common sense." Good, good stuff. I can't recommend it enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Orloffis a Wise Woman who speaks with Love
I love Dr. Orloff's soothing voice. She is a woman of wisdom and she speaks clearly and with love. I find her teachings extremely inspiring. Everything she says can be applied automatically to life. Her approach is easy to understand, and very user friendly in day to day living!I've been a fan of all her works since her first book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bummer
I purchased this CD after having a successful experience with another self-help type CD. I was really excited about the title on this one, but once I heard it, I can't really get into it. The voice sounds soooooo "un-energetic" I can't get past a few chapters. I am going to keep giving it a try to see if I can get past it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energized
This is a great pair of audio cds! They complement the Positive Energy book written by Dr. Judith Orloff. The author provides a therapy session with advice on how to cope with being an intuitive empath. It's great to be able to pop in the cds in the car and gain focus as to how to handle the gift and others as 'energy vampires'. I would recommend this to anyone who is affected by intuitive powers or is searching for why he or she feels drained or energized in any given situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeping Your Energy Positive and How
Dr. Judith Orloff doesn't just give advice she also give tangible tools anyone can practice with ease on positive energy practices. Based on her own clinical experience, these 10 steps will help guide you towars being a protector of your own energy and claiming a vibrant space you deserve. Life has its share of negative energy ... but you need not take it on if it is not yours ... but if you are empathic this is hard to you ... so Dr. Orloff offers a gameplan for doing just that. This is a wonderful audio complement to the book and one ot refer to again and again.

As I have stated in previous reviews: Dr. orloff like Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz are real doctors with degrees from legitimate educational institutions. They still maintain board certification and licensure in their field. Please keep this in mind when seeking counsel during an often vulnerable time in your life. People who are willing to be held accountable to an authority are those who are more likely to be trustworthy because there is a built in structure for ethics and putting the client first. These two ladies are true to the hippocratic oath of do no harm.

Other goodies from non-medical writers based on more personal experience but worth noting: The Circle by Laura Day, Trust Your Gut by Lynn Robinson, PowerHunch by Marcia Emery, The Intuitive Way by Penney Peirce, and books from Elaine Aron on being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).

On the flipside: Do you due diiligence on the credentials, even at the Ph.D. level of other more woo-woo writers on this field of energy and intuitive healing .... before you listen to their counsel. Many of them have Ph.D.'s from unaccredited places ... which means they didn't go through the same kind of rigor. Writers such as Doreen Virtue, Sonia Choquette, Carolyn Myss, John Gray, Barbara De Angelis, etc .... are examples of Ph.D.s whose source were unaccredited universities. Please keep this in mind when venturing out to learn from a healer ...

Book Description
The wind power industry has been transformed in the 1990s by dramatic breakthroughs in efficiency, economy, and adaptability. Wind Energy Basics is the most up-to-date source available of information about small wind systems. The book includes the unique "standard small wind turbine rating" developed by the author, which is designed to help readers wade through conflicting performance claims by manufacturers in the U.S. and overseas. Also included is detailed information on planning, siting, and installing a wind system, and on integrating wind power with solar for more cost-effective and reliable off-the-grid applications.

In addition, Gipe provides a discussion of "net metering" and intertie possibilities, explaining how homeowners in many states can now sell their excess electricity back to the utility company.

Wind Energy Basics is an excellent introduction to wind power for educational programs concerned with state-of-the-art renewable energy options, and will be indispensable for those considering today's generation of quiet, efficient, and reliable "micro" wind turbines.

Wind Energy Basics describes a new class of small wind turbines, dubbed micro turbines, which are so small that they can be purchased for less than $1000 and carried in your hands.

The debut of micro wind turbines brings the technology within reach of almost everyone. These inexpensive machines, when coupled with readily available photovoltaic panels (solar cells), have revolutionized living in remote homes off-the-utility grid. And the increasing popularity of micro wind turbines has opened up new applications previously considered off-limits to wind energy, such as charging electric fences and powering remote telephone call boxes, once the sole domain of solar cells.

Micro wind turbines have been around for decades for use on sailboats, but they have gained increasing prominence in the 1990s as their broader potential for off-the-grid applications on land has become more widely known. While micro wind turbines have yet to reach the status of widely available consumer commodities such as personal computers, the day may not be far off. The use of wind power is "exploding," say Karen and Richard Perez in their foreword. "There are currently over 150,000 small-scale RE (renewable energy) systems in America and they are growing by 30% yearly. The small-scale use of wind power is growing at twice that amount--over 60% per year," according to the Perezes, the editors of Home Power magazine.

Southwest Windpower awakened latent consumer interest in micro wind turbines with the introduction of its sleek Air 303. Since launching the 300-watt turbine in 1995, Southwest Windpower has shipped 18,000 of the popular and inexpensive machines.

"What Americans, and folks all over the world, are finding out," the Perezes say, "is that wind power is an excellent and cost-effective alternative" to extending electric utility lines, and fossil-fueled backup generators.

Wind Energy Basics explains how it is possible—in some states—for homeowners to run their kilowatt-hour meter backwards with a small wind turbine.

This book confronts the common but controversial practice of "power rating" that may mislead consumers about the potential of some small wind turbines. Known for his frank style, Gipe quickly cuts through technological jargon and the hype surrounding power ratings.

"Nothing tells you more about a wind turbine's potential than rotor diameter—nothing. The wind turbine with the bigger rotor will almost invariably generate more electricity than a turbine with a smaller rotor, regardless of their generator ratings," he says.

Gipe also comes down hard on roof-top mounting. "Don't bother," he warns. "It's not worth the trouble." He also minces few words on mounting wind turbines in trees. "Sometimes wind energy isn't the right choice," Gipe says. "If you live in a forest of tall trees and you can't afford a tower tall enough to clear the trees, then wind energy isn't for you."

Worldwide, wind energy is booming. Not since the heyday of the American farm windmill has wind energy grown at such a dramatic pace. By the new millennium, more than 40,000 medium-size wind turbines will be in operation worldwide, mostly in California, Europe, and India. These commercial wind turbines, including those found in California's giant wind power plants, will produce 20 terawatt-hours (20,000 million kilowatt-hours) of wind-generated electricity annually—enough to meet the needs of more than three million energy-hungry Californians, or twice that number of more energy-conscious Europeans.

The commercial success of medium-size wind turbines, or wind farm machines, is only part of the story. Small wind turbines have found their role expanding as well. Whether it's on the contemporary homestead of Ed Wulf in California's Tehachapi Mountains, in the Chilean village of Puaucho overlooking the Pacific Ocean, or on the Scoraig peninsula of Scotland's wind-swept west coast, small wind turbines are making an important difference. While their contributions may be small in absolute terms, small wind turbines make a big difference in the daily lives of people in remote areas around the globe. Small wind turbines may produce only a few tens of kilowatt-hours per month, but this electricity goes much further and provides as much, if not more, value to those who depend upon it as does the generation of their bigger brethren.

Today there are more than 50 manufacturers of small wind turbines worldwide, and they produce more than 100 different models. Altogether manufacturers in western countries have built about 60,000 small wind turbines during the last two decades. And tens of thousands more have been manufactured in China for use by nomads on the Mongolian steppes.

Wind Energy Basics is richly illustrated with photographs of small wind turbines, from those on the Patagonian steppes at the tip of South America to those on the wind-swept shores of Denmark.

The book contains information on most major small wind turbines on the international market. It also provides photographs of common wind turbine applications, including their use for wind power plants, vacation homes, third world villages, farms, water pumping, and so on.

Engineers will like the "exploded views" of popular micro and mini wind turbines such as the Ampair 100, Southwest Windpower's Air 303, and Bergey Windpower's BWC 850 and BWC 1500.

The book also introduces the "griphoist" to American readers. This amazing tool, coupled with new lightweight wind turbine towers that have recently become available, has the potential to transform the installation of micro turbines. With the "griphoist", two people can safely raise a micro wind turbine on a specially designed tower without resorting to cumbersome electric winches.

The appendix to Wind Energy Basics includes detailed product specifications for most popular micro and mini wind turbines, as well as sources for wind pumps (farm windmills), used wind turbines, anemometers, inverters, trade associations, and mail-order catalogs that sell wind turbines. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Solid introduction to small wind systems
As the title of Paul Gipe's text suggests, this book addresses the concerns of people who are interested in smaller wind turbines.Gipe fleshes out in careful detail the process of setting up a small wind turbine in many setttings (agricultural, residential, and even small wind farms), battery and conversion effeciency, how one can sell back excess electricity, what states offer tax incentives, etc.The writing style is generally pleasant, since Gipe avoids jargon and organizes his subjects well.Readers who want a scientific-based text on wind-power engineering should seek a different book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Overview of Wind Power Technolgies
Wind Energy Basics: A Guide to Small and Micro Wind Systems by Paul Gipe is an excellent overview of wind power turbines both past and present. It also does an excellent job of acquainting readers with the major components of a Wind Renewable Energy (RE) system and the functions thereof. In the opinion of this reviewer, the book does what it is intended to do: provide an overview a wind-based RE system and give the reader a basic understanding of same.

However, as other reviewers have noted that Wind Energy Basics is not for the technical mind. The title does lack the step by step, do it yourself instructions that one would need to put his own wind-based RE into operation.

Those who are already familiar with wind-based RE systems and are in search of a complete nuts and volts guide will probably take little away from this title. A better choice would probably be the more complete, much larger "Wind Power: Renewable Energy for Home, Farm and Business", also by Paul Gipe. ISBN 1-931498-14-8. At nearly 500 pages, I have yet to come across a more complete reference on the subject of Wind Power.

All in all, Gipe's Wind Energy Basics: A Guide to Small and Micro Wind Systems is a good starting point for the homeowner who is considering the possibility of buying or installing an RE system for the first time. If you are not extremely knowledgeable about RE systems and are in search of a book that will introduce you to the components and technologies, Wind Energy Basics will serve you well.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT For The "Technical" Mind
I applaud Mr. Gipe's obvious commitment to renewable energy. He also seems very knowledgeable about wind energy. Unfortunately, this book is poorly written for anyone who has a "technical" mind, and I can't imagine anyone interested in reading a book on this subject to not have some kind of technical inclination.

I understand that this is supposed to be an introduction to the subject, but even the most basic concepts are hard to grasp due to the way they are written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Wind Power Generation - A Good Overview
From an individual's viewpoint (as opposed to an electrical utility), this is an excellent introductory text.I was surprised at how clearly presented the material was, while still mantaining enough of the technical formulas and rules-of-thumb to have substance.Mr. Gipe lays out the options open to anyone interested in implementing some sort of home-based electrical generation wind system and surveys a range of available products that fall into this area of the wind turbine market.Important decision-making parameters are discussed and the reader is given a good ball-park idea of how to proceed.I will be ordering the book "Wind Power For Home And Business" in order to fill in some of the details.

1-0 out of 5 stars Title misled me
I'm sure this is a wonderful book. However, I, rather ignorantly, was expecting "small" and "micro" to actually mean small and micro! These are still huge systems on towers three times the height of a house!I'm glad it was just a library book, because I feel the title doesn't accurately describe the book. ... Book Description
Free energy and anti-gravity are new solutions to the world's energy crisis. Rarely mentioned in the media-- even as power shortages cripple the U.S.-- Zero-Point Energy can transform our earth to a self-sustaining, pollution-free planet. The basic theory of Zero Point Energy maintains that there are fluctuations of electrical field energy embedded within the fabric of space. By identifying the densest energy; and then using today's technology to balance the energy flow, we can acquire free energy which doesn't deplete the earth. Filled with detailed diagrams, patents, and photos, the chapters include: * Fundamentals of Zero-Point Energy Technology * Tapping Zero-Point Energy as an Energy Source * Vacuum Energy Vortices * The Super Tube * Charge Clusters ... 3-0 out of 5 stars There is no such thing as "Zero Point Energy"
There is no such thing as "Zero Point Energy," nor is there "free" or "unlimited" energy.
The claims made by this book are ridiculous.

Perpetual energy, free energy, perpetual motion, etc., are all SCIENCE FICTION ideas which propose that energy is unlimited.

Any physicist will say that energy is the ability to perform work AGAINST OR ALONG A FORCE.
There are four forces: gravity, electro-magnetic, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear.
Basically, the concept of "Zero Point Energy" or "free energy" would contradict all of them.

There is a "theoretical" term called "vacuum" energy, which is the supposed "energy" of free space, but this isn't Zero, it's just a VERY LOW ENERGY STATE. It isn't free or renewable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quest for Zero Point Energy is worth reading.
It is worth reading, along with T.E. Bearden's, Nikola Tesla, and John Bedini's work. The EM theory has many errors and if your a novice in this field and want some direction in how to approach the classical EM theory and understand where the problem areas exist. You will eventually understand the fundamental principles of extracting free energy from the vacuum and it's not as absurd as people would like for you to believe, in other words the world is definitely not flat. Go explore.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal
I've bought most of the free energy books out there and would put this on my "top ten" list. Most books published on this topic are not technical or rational, or are all hype and offer little of substance. This book is a notable exception in the genre.Moray doesn't reach too far with outlandish conclusions, and therein lies his--and ultimately this book's--credibility.The text is technical in places, and uses terms that may confuse the layman, but a layman could also learn much, as the explanations are nonetheless surprisingly lucid. But be aware that the book is a compilation of technical papers, not a hold-your-hand, dumbed-down, super-rudimentary description.

This book doesn't contain--as many of the naive expect from such books--detailed plans that will allow you to build a free energy motor, nor does it claim to.But it offers concise, referenced, well-edited explanations of an "ether" or "zero-point-energy" theory that is the conceptual backbone of free energy systems.Postulated operational principles of some of the more infamous free energy devices are also included.

I don't usually write reviews, but I made an exception in this case because I am (very) tired of this genre being polluted by so many quacks.Free energy is credible, and possible, and this is one book that helps disseminate useful information on a topic of critical importance to humanity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Moray King does it again!
And the man just keeps getting better! If you are a researcher into the new energy technologies, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and buy this book.Moray King will save you months of frustration and floundering around.BIG-BANG for the Buck! ... Read more

Gwyneth Cravens on Why Going Green Means Going Nuclear

"Most of us were taught that the goal of science is power over nature, as if science and power were one thing and nature quite another. Niels Bohr observed to the contrary that the more modest but relentless goal of science is, in his words, 'the gradual removal of prejudice.' By 'prejudice,' Bohr meant belief unsupported by evidence."
--Pulitzer Prize-winner Richard Rhodes, author of the introduction to Power to Save the World: The Truth About Nuclear Energy by Gwyneth Cravens

"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less."
--Marie Curie

My book is fundamentally about prejudice based on wrong information.

I used to oppose nuclear power, even though the Sierra Club supported it. By the mid-1970s the Sierra Club turned against nuclear power too. However, as we witness the catastrophic consequences of accelerated global temperature increase, prominent environmentalists as well as skeptics like me have started taking a fresh look at nuclear energy. A large percentage of the heat-trapping greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, that thaw Arctic ice and glaciers comes from making electricity, and we rely upon it every second of our lives.

There are three ways to provide large-scale electricity—the kind that reliably meets the demands of our civilization around the clock. In the United States:

  • 75% of that baseload electricity comes from power plants that burn fossil fuels, mainly coal, and emit carbon dioxide. Toxic waste from coal-fired plants kills 24,000 Americans annually.
  • 5% comes from hydroelectric plants.
  • Less than 1% comes from wind and solar power.
  • 20% comes from nuclear plants that use low-enriched uranium as fuel, burn nothing, and emit virtually no CO2. In 50 years of operation, they have caused no deaths to the public.

When I began my research eight years ago, I'd assumed that we had many choices in the way we made electricity. But we don't. Nuclear power is the only large-scale, environmentally-benign, time-tested technology currently available to provide clean electricity. Wind and solar power have a role to play, but since they're diffuse and intermittent, they can't provide baseload, and they always require some form of backup--usually from burning fossil fuels, which have a huge impact on public health.

My tour of the nuclear world began with a chance question I asked of Dr. D. Richard ("Rip") Anderson. He and his wife Marcia Fernández work tirelessly to preserve open land, clean air, and the aquifer in the Rio Grande Valley. Rip, a skeptically-minded chemist, oceanographer, and expert on nuclear environmental health and safety, told me that the historical record shows that nuclear power is cleaner, safer, and more environmentally friendly than any other form of large-scale electricity production.I was surprised to learn that:

  • Nuclear power emits no gases because it does not burn anything; it provides 73% of America's clean-air electricity generation, using fuel that is tiny in volume but steadily provides an immense amount of energy.
  • Uranium is more energy-dense than any other fuel. If you got all of your electricity for your lifetime solely from nuclear power, your share of the waste would fit in a single soda can. If you got all your electricity from coal, your share would come to 146 tons: 69 tons of solid waste that would fit into six rail cars and 77 tons of carbon dioxide that would contribute to accelerated global warming.
  • A person living within 50 miles of a nuclear plant receives less radiation from it in a year than you get from eating one banana. Someone working in the U.S. Capitol Building is exposed to more radioactivity than a uranium miner.
  • Spent nuclear fuel is always shielded and isolated from the public. Annual waste from one typical reactor could fit in the bed of a standard pickup. The retired fuel from 50 years of U.S. reactor operation could fit in a single football field; it amounts to 77,000 tons. A large coal-fired plant produces ten times as much solid waste in one day, much of it hazardous to health. We discard 179,000 tons of batteries annually--they contain toxic heavy metals.
  • Nuclear power's carbon dioxide emissions throughout its life-cycle and while producing electricity are about the same as those of wind power.
  • Nuclear plants offer a clean alternative to fossil-fuel plants. In the U.S. 104 nuclear reactors annually prevent emissions of 682 million tons of CO2. Worldwide, over 400 power reactors reduce CO2 emissions by 2 billion metric tons a year.

I wanted to know if what Rip was telling me was true.He took me on a tour of the nuclear world so that I could learn firsthand its risks and benefits. I visited many facilities, talked to many scientists in different disciplines, and researched the conclusions of the National Academy of Sciences and various international scientific bodies. As I learned more, I became persuaded that the safety culture that prevails at U.S. nuclear plants and the laws of physics make them a safe and important tool for addressing global warming. Clearly many of my beliefs had originated in misinformation and fear-mongering.

I've now met many people dedicated to saving the environment while supporting nuclear power as well as other green resources. This path is only logical. Nuclear power is the only large-scale, non-greenhouse-gas emitting electricity source that can be considerably expanded while maintaining only a small environmental footprint. If as a society we're going to reduce those emissions, we'll need every resource to do so, and we'll have to set aside our ideological blinkers, look at the facts, and unite to meet the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced.

The power to change our world does not lie in rocks, rivers, wind, or sunlight. It lies within each of us.

--Gwyneth Cravens

Book Description

In this timely book, Gwyneth Cravens takes an informed and clarifying look at the myths, the fears, and the truth about nuclear energy.

With concerns about catastrophic global warming mounting, it is vital that we examine all our energy options. Power to Save the World describes the efforts of one determined woman, Gwyneth Cravens, initially a skeptic about nuclear power, as she spends nearly a decade immersing herself in the subject. She teams up with a leading expert in risk assessment and nuclear safety who is also a committed environmentalist to trace the path of uranium—the source of nuclear fuel—from start to finish. As we accompany them on visits to mines as well as to experimental reactor laboratories, fortress-like power plants, and remote waste sites normally off-limits to the public, we come to see that we already have a feasible way to address the causes of global warming on a large scale.

On the nuclear tour, Cravens converses with scientists from many disciplines, public health and counterterrorism experts, engineers, and researchers who study both the harmful and benign effects of radiation; she watches remote-controlled robotic manipulators unbolt a canister of spent uranium fuel inside a “hot cell” bathed in eerie orange light; observes the dark haze from fossil-fuel combustion obscuring once-pristine New Mexico skies and the leaky, rusted pipes and sooty puddles in a coal-fired plant; glimpses rainbows made by salt dust in the deep subterranean corridors of a working nuclear waste repository.

She refutes the major arguments against nuclear power one by one, making clear, for example, that a stroll through Grand Central Terminal exposes a person to more radiation than a walk of equal length through a uranium mine; that average background radiation around Chernobyl and in Hiroshima is lower than in Denver; that there are no “cancer clusters” near nuclear facilities; that terrorists could neither penetrate the security at an American nuclear plant nor make an atomic bomb from its fuel; that nuclear waste can be—and already is—safely stored; that wind and solar power, while important, can meet only a fraction of the demand for electricity; that a coal-fired plant releases more radiation than a nuclear plant and also emits deadly toxic waste that kills thousands of Americans a month; that in its fifty-year history American nuclear power has not caused a single death. And she demonstrates how, time and again, political fearmongering and misperceptions about risk have trumped science in the dialogue about the feasibility of nuclear energy.

In the end, we see how nuclear power has been successfully and economically harnessed here and around the globe to become the single largest displacer of greenhouse gases, and how its overall risks and benefits compare with those of other energy sources.

Power to Save the World is an eloquent, convincing argument for nuclear power as a safe energy source and an essential deterrent to global warming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reads like a novel.....
Well-written, plenty of detail, lots of perspective. Also cites both sides of controversy. As an admirer of Richard Rhode's book, The Making of the Atomic Bomb, I will put this book alongside his book on my library shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars READ THIS AND BE ENLIGHTENED, then pass the message on!

EXCELLENT, excellent work. Thankyou Gwenyth for your clear and enquiring mind, one of the most important books of our time.

5-0 out of 5 stars nuclear energy for layman
Nuclear energy is explored and data provided so a reader obtains an understanding based on fact rather than emotion. This is a must read for those on either side of the nuclear energy discussion. To discuss the merits of nuclear energy both sides must be informed and have that information supported by FACTS developed by the international science, engineering, and medical community. This book is one tool to establish common understanding of nuclear energy.

The book is well written and really engages the reader. The author frames her discussion to assist readers in understanding the specifics and significance of the data presented but the book does not read like a college engineering text - thank heavens. She also demystifies the science of nuclear energy as she takes you along on her personal journey to explore the potential of nuclear energy as part of a balanced national and international energy portfolio. She starts her journey with many fears, half-truths, and misunderstandings about nuclear energy. As she explores all the major facets from uranium mining to power generation, you gain essential knowledge, vocabulary, and facts about nuclear energy to participate in an informed debate on the merits of nuclear power to address global warming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Book that Covers all Bases
This is an important read for people that care about global warming. The world simply won't accept a solution that means we consume substantially less energy that we do today. We can continue to pretend that a carbon free mass energy source will magically appear, or we can use the safe nuclear alternative we have today.Hopefully, this book will help people see the light.Where are you Al Gore on this matter?

(Note: Last time I checked, this book was not available at Borders.I sense a political agenda)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
I learned so much by reading Mrs. Craven's book, Power to Save the World: Truth About Nuclear Energy and I highly recommend this book to others. You will come away with lots of knowledge of a complicated subject.I wish every high school student could read this book in a science class. Americans generally have little understanding of the topic, nuclear energy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, simple, healthy with flavor
This cookbook has many recipes which are easy to cook, healthy to eat, and tasty to enjoy. It's also a good cookbook to have handy in a household with vegetarians and meat eaters.

5-0 out of 5 stars easy to use
I'm a big fan of The Pump in New York City -- I eat there every chance I get. This book is a good companion for fans of The Pump or for anyone looking to cook easy-to-make, simple healthy foods that do not require egg yolks, salt, butter or oil or other unhealthful ingredients.I liked the little blurbs on the sides of the recipes by famous clientele of the Pump. This is from a "mom and pop" type of store -- so the book is not written too professional, its more like a friend talking to another friend -- not a bad thing at all.The Dynamite Chicken Pita (#42) is a must try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Health on the go
This is a very good recipe book for those who are busy and have very little time for cooking. In addition, you need not worry about the nutritional content of the recipes; it is very healthy without the exaggerations of a health nut. Those who are image driven may be disappointed at this book because it has no illustrations of the foods in the recipe. Over all, if your concern about general health this is a great recipe book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars At home therapy
If you think that you might benefit from "therapy", listen to these programs.A large part of the effort of therapy is getting an individual to open to themselves, to see themselves as they really are, as a precursor to making changes in their life.Caroline Myss' recordings of "Energy Anatomy" and "Advanced Energy Anatomy" open the door to that introspection, giving you a framework in which to see your past life, and present actions.True, you may not agree with everything she says. But I guarantee you will find yourself nodding in agreement over and over again, at the insightful ways she presents the workings of human minds and emotions. And you will find Caroline Myss offering you answers to many of the questions you've asked yourself ("Why do I do this?""Why did I do that?") over the years.I'm not recommending you forego therapy, if you really need it.Professional therapy can be very valuable. But I am saying that Caroline's recordings are a terrific way of getting in touch with yourself, and seeing yourself clearly (maybe for the first time), regardless of whether you want to pursue professional counseling, or not.And because (as Caroline says) the mind and emotions are prime determinants of the health of the body, this is an excellent series for anyone interested in taking good care of their body, and creating the best health possible for a vibrant and very happy life.

2-0 out of 5 stars Condescending
I listened to the first Energy Anatomy set and loved it, so I bought the Advanced set.I was disappointed. There is less actual material, more pontificating.Fewer real life stories, more bold, brazen and mostly unusable assertions.Above all there is far less charm, humility, humor and humanity.Myss must have a clientele of new-age noodle heads who enjoy being berated.Or maybe she's just sick of her audience. But she says a lot of things like "you have no idea what the consequences of any action will be, and your foolish to think you do".Well, if that were true, getting from your bathroom to your car in the morning would be impossible, right? She says "you have absolutely no idea how much you've been influenced by the social mind."Well, actually I've given this quite a bit of thought, Carolyn, but then you wouldn't know that because YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA who I am.

Also, content-wise, I don't find this to be about "advanced energy anatomy" at all, but about archetypes, which is a bit of a different subject.Pass on this title and listen to her previous work, before fame made her arrogant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, life changing and insightful
Caroline's wisdom is remarkably shared with examples that I can understand and encompass. This is not my first Caroline Myss tape, but it has helped me more than I can write.I'm from a family of "victim" archetypes and I have a tendency to overspend when I'm letting my "child" archetype have control of my thoughts.Caroline's tapes have helped me make positive changes in my life that I would have taken years to even comprehend before these tapes.Buy the CD version because you will want to listen to the lessons over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advanced Energy Anatomy
Caroline Myss at her best!! The most profound answers to the questions you didn't even know you had asked.
I listen to this series over and over and highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking to live in accordance with their higher truths.

5-0 out of 5 stars modern mysticism--for joining heaven and earth within you
Described as Advanced it means exactly that. But, most chapters in the series of 9 CDs are easy to follow and really don't need too much previous spiritual reading. The material reveals what the listener is ready to hear no matter the stage of a person's inner development. Listen to chapters that appeal most to you. And when they appeal to you. You will be sure to learn something you've never heard before, gain new perspective you've never had before. And if you were to listen to the lessons again at another time, you will be sure to still pick up new insight only because your own experiences and spiritual maturity add to the experience of listening to this series.

Mysticism is being able to see the unseen world---to see the invisible world. Mysticim is deeply cultivated insight. Carolyn Myss teaches you through Advanced Energy Anatomy ways to cultivate your insight and presents mystical insight in easy to understand monologue. She is truly a leading teacher of our times. Her speech is easy to follow and her samples are always practical and involving.

The introduction and discussion archetypes can help you understand your self better and your relationships with others and the world better.

The lessons on creativity and spiritual vocations are inspiring. Being able to see your creativity and your dreams interwoven and inseparable can help you understand yourself better and seek fulfillment...at the same time realizing your divine potential.

The discussion on survival, creative and visionary intuition was only one of my favorite new discoveries.

For those who seek to heal themselves and maybe even others, this audio set is very, very enlightening.

So much wisdom and insight is found here! Don't just listen, take out your notebook, post it notes or journal and write the best of what you hear.

Of the many spiritual readings I have endeavored, here is a series that is well worth your money. For practicality, for spirituality... for joining heaven and earth within you...don't miss this series! ... Read more

Book Description
* * The new book from the internationally renowned author of The Solar Economy and A Solar Manifesto, and named one of Time Magazines "Heroes of the Green Century."

For 200 years industrial civilization has relied on the combustion of abundant and cheap carbon fuels. But continued reliance has lead to perilous consequences. On the one hand, the insecurity of relying on the worlds most unstable region--the Middle East--compounded by the imminence of Peak Oil, growing scarcity, and mounting prices.

Yet there is an answer: to make the transition to renewable sources of energy and to distributed, decentralized energy generation. It is a model that has been proven, technologically, commercially and politically, as Scheer comprehensively demonstrates. He shows that the widely advocated return to nuclear power is compromised and illusory.

The energy autonomy route does not just avoid the harm from following business-as-usual, but also offers enormous additional positive benefits. Whole new industries will be created to stimulate the global economy and two billion people, who don't receive electricity now, will have access to it. The advantages are so clear and so overwhelming that resistance to them needs diagnosis, which Scheer also provides, showing why and how entrenched interests oppose the transition and what must be done to overcome these obstacles. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Indictment of Fossil Fuels and Strong Case for Distributed Generation
Written by German parliament member, Hermann Scheer, Energy Autonomy makes a strong case for the decentralization of energy production. Scheer was an instrumental part of passing legislation in Germany which has created the solar and wind boom in that country. Clearly writing with a very solid grasp on the politics of renewable energy, Scheer's argument is powerful and cogently presented.

This book is not just for policy wonks, renewable energy advocates, green investors and environmentalists. But the book is also very approachable for those with less background in the science, technology and politics of renewable energy. If you have never heard the term, 'distributed generation' you should read this book because you will find it fascinating. If you already find distributed generation fascinating, YOU MUST read this book because YOU WILL LOVE IT.

3-0 out of 5 stars Energy Autonomy & Gluttony
Hermann Scheer's book is not as much about energy autonomy as it is about battling the fossil fuel and nuclear energy industries.
Scheer pays no attention to the past when Germany used little fossil fuels and no nuclear power. He doesn't mention that many poor countries are still as free from fossil fuels as Germany hopes to become years hence.
Nature, the beauty of sunlight, the excitement of towns, buildings and travels as seasons change, these topics don't come up in Energy Autonomy.Does Scheer notice nature, the sun and the seasons?I think he is too absorbed in battle to consider what the battle is for.
Nevertheless, however focused on a grim cloud bank, Scheer is a smart, stalwart solar advocate with a great deal of combat experience. He has grappled with the most powerful and wiley groups who insist on overfeeding us fossil fuels and nuclear power.
I would have read the entire book just to learn what a quango is (a non governmental organization that has become overwhelmingly and permanently dependant on government money), or to read his thoughts on "proactive neutralization".
Give this veteran an iron cross, and a long vacation in a sunny land.On his next campaign the sun will touch him; he will awake from the German (and American) spell and see the goal is not to be rich and fat, Energy Autonomy and Gluttony, but a new civilization.

3-0 out of 5 stars Scholarly but dry
I bought this book after hearing an interview with Mr. Scheer on NPR.I must say the interview was much more interesting that the book proved to be.

Mr. Scheer is very thorough in making his arguments and I sure this is necessary to convince government and industry but it sure makes for dry reading for the average lay person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scheer puts renewable and traditional fossil energy in their places
Energy Autonomy is a refreshing and thorough look at how the traditional fossil energy industry (oil, natural gas, nuclear), with its finite energy availability and its polluting characteristics, uses Mafia tactics to perpetuate its existence, allthewhile trying to keep renewable energy in a cozy, non-threatening corner. I attended a presentation last month by Dr. Scheer in Toronto, and was impressed by his cogent, well-researched argument in favor of promoting renewable energy. As Dr. Scheer said, the price of fossil energy will only go up, going forward, and renewable energy costs will only go down. Anyone who relies on traditional fossil energy does so at their own peril.
Thanks to this book, I am much more optimistic about the energy future for humanity, although there are huge political barriers to overcome, as the lobbyists working for the oil and nuclear industries will never give up their belittling the potential role of renewable energy, and gun-shy governments are fearful of the consequences of cutting off the huge subsidies to the fossil energy industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strong analysis by a leader who can speak from tangible experience
First, why I was compelled to read this book: Spending several months last year in Southern Germany after a 20 year absence, I observed a remarkable shift: unlike the acid-rain torn, brown, industrially wasted place I remembered, the region was greener than I had remembered, decked everywhere with fields of yellow blossoms that I learned were grown for biodiesel. What were mostly concepts of the progressive fringe back home were mainstream realities here, considered normal and desirable even among socio-economic conservative old world businessmen I met--like biodiesel at all the gas stations, solar panels and windmills everywhere. How did all this happen? How did the place get so sensible?
Hermann Scheer is essentially the architect of the shift in Germany--and because of his success, the role model of the planned shift of EU-- toward renewable energy. His latest book is well-written, dense, and compelling. He sums up the major crises arising from dependency on fossil fuels without pulling any punches. He also offers a solution--not one that is simply a theory, an abstract, but one based on policy he has fought for decades to implement and that has begun to be implemented in recent years with great, if hard-won success. He argues that the shift to a 100% renewable energy society is necessary now and possible now. He lays out in detail the historical, present, and probable future obstacles to that happening and calls for a summoning of political and societal courage. He has earned the right--as he has walked the talk. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This One Shines So Brightly
There's a lot of books on solar out there since we're finally starting to catch a clue that this world is running out of non-renewable, polluting, energy resources in a ever increasing energy hungry planet & people. It's been shining and keeping the planet alive for 4.5 billion years, puts out tons of energy everyday, doesn't go on vacation, or take breaks, should keep shining for as long as already has and it's energy is absolutely free! We just have to be smart enough to know how to capture and store all this free energy. That's where this book becomes a valuable tool. One of the highlights of this book is the experience of the authors. Doug Pratt is one of the founding fathers of Real Goods, known as Gaiam now. Real Goods has to be one of the worlds leading retailers of natural, renewable, & Earth-friendly products. They're one of the first places to consolidate & sell solar panels to the public back in the early 80's. Both Doug & Rex Ewing have lived on & off-the-grid in passive solar houses for years. Together they have more than 30 years experience in this field. This book is a great starting place if you have been interested in solar & wind power, yet it's a great reference book for the experienced too. Very easy to read, lots of great photos & diagrams. This book also has a very extensive appendix with tons of resources and references for further exploration. I'm glad I bought this book. I've studied lots of books on solar and wind power, but this one is one of my favorites, due to it's ease of use, knowledgeable authors, great layout, excellent references & resources. The costs of these systems are not cheap initially, and you want to make sure you do the right things right, and install the system that meets your needs. This book even tells you how to recoup rebates, shop for the best prices on solar panels and apply for tax credits(important for most folks, unless you are filthy rich and throw money away) If you're thinking of going solar or wind powered, this is a must have, and you don't have to wear sunblock. (unless your installing your system) ;-}

4-0 out of 5 stars Good beginer book,
its meant to be the first book you would read if you are considering solar power for your home or just learning more about solar energy.and thats exactly what it is, very basic, no jargon, down to earth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Basic Overview
This book gives a very good basic overview of the technology available and how it works. My only complaint is that it seems geared towards cooler climates. There is absolutely no information in the book about really hot climates, e.g., how does extreme heat affect PV efficiency? Not everyone lives in upstate New York or Northern California.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best I've read on solar energy
I've read many books on solar energy and always ended up skimming over the technical explanations because they were so complex. This book explains the basics in a clear, entertaining, and understandable way. It also is up to date, providing guidance on the different technologies available now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got Sun? Go Solar.... a grerat foundation resource
After cruising the web for Solar info, I decided on this as my first solar personal library resource, and am happy I did. After a full career in computer systems hungry for power, I had little background knowledge of electricity, current, even some helpful history. This book has provided me with just the right amount of background on (residential) electricity for me to learn about PV systems, what they can provide, and where to start.

This book is well written and an easy and fast read, informative without being overly or self-rightously technical, gives web and other sources to follow, and adds some humor and anecdotes to keep your interest high.

I like doing my own projects, intending to follow up with more technical design and installation books and web resources, and an online tutorial, culminating with my mostly-self designed rural grid-tie PV solar system.
I found this book to be a great motivator toward that goal. ... Read more

Book Description
Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body explains the practice of chi gung (qigong), the 3000-year-old self-healing exercise system from China. Originally published in 1993, this book has become a classic that has inspired tens of thousands of Westerners to learn to activate their chi—life-force energy—to improve their health, reduce stress and reverse the effects of aging. This fully revised edition has more than 100 pages of new material, including Longevity Breathing methods; how cross-training in chi gung can enhance other exercises such as yoga, golf and weight training; and nei gung techniques for advanced practitioners.

Chi gung exercises utilize a system of energy channels in the body that are similar to an electrical circuit. Frantzis’ thorough knowledge of energy arts and the Chinese language allow him to peel away the secrecy and metaphors. He presents this 300-page edition in easy to understand terms to suit beginners, with enough meaty detail and depth for the advanced martial artist, healer or meditator.

Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body includes a comprehensive guide to chi gung theory and a systematic lesson plan with more than 100 illustrations. These low-impact exercises are suitable for almost any age or fitness level. They provide the foundation for learning any other chi practice, such as tai chi, martial arts, meditation or TAO Yoga. Frantzis explains not only how these inner aerobics are done, but why. Going beyond mere body movement, he teaches from the inside out, linking the biomechanics and anatomy of the physical body with the subtleties of chi. This book provides practical methods to help people become balanced, relaxed and joyful.

Frantzis trained for more than a decade in China, became a Taoist Lineage Master—quite a rare occurrence—and came back to the West to teach. “My hope is that chi gung and tai chi can become mainstream exercises in the West,” says Frantzis. “We have a major health crisis looming; practicing chi gung or tai chi is one of the most effective ways people can reclaim control of their health and well-being.” ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very instructive
This book was eye opening for me.I learned that exercise is more than sweat and pain. The whole Chi movement is well explained and made understandable for a beginner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Potentially life changing - must read!
I've been interested in Chi-Gung and Taoist things for a number of years. Took a few classes, etc, but nothing has been as detailed and to the point as this material from Mr Frantzis.

Honestly, most chi-gung books and many classes out there just teach you some physical movements or "standing like a tree".. stand in different poses and hold it without a whole lot of additional instruction as to what goes with it. Mr Frantzis sheds some (in my opinion) much needed light as to what you are really supposed to be doing, the "internal details" of what you are supposed to be doing with your body and with your mind in a clear and straightforward way. Just the first third or so of the book up until the part where he talks about standing is easily worth the price of admission.

I say "potentially life changing" because for a period of maybe a few months I began to do the standing practices (not any of the swings) every morning and every night. After a few days with it, I found that my mind was a lot calmer and I was feeling physically stronger and more vibrant. After a week or two, I felt like I was floating on air.. Ease of movement made me feel like a dancer floating on the clouds, and the sense of wellbeing just continued to increase. It was quite amazing. I was involved in martial arts at the time, and my teacher commented how much better I was getting.. it had nothing to do with the martial arts training though, but just with the standing and dissolving practice. It made my meditation that I was trying to do every day just a whole lot easier.

I let myself get distracted, and stopped doing 1 1/2 - 2 hours a day like I used to. However, you don't have to be that hard-core (though the author said he did 6 hours a day for a time.. if that is whaco or dedication I don't know). I think once a day for 30 minutes or so would produce great results as well, the same as mine eventually just somewhat slower. But there is plenty of material here to get you motivated to put time and effort into the practice. That is another great thing about this book. Not only is the Author obviously very, very knowledgeable, but his story and his presentation is very straightforward and actually kind of inspirational. A must have book for anyone interested in alternative health, chi-practices, or Taoism in general.

4-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
I was looking for something that spoke in plain language and answered my questions for me. This was it. A lot of other books were just too complicated or advanced. This helped me to correct my posture, understand what was going on and feel like I was on more solid ground with my practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This book is practical, detailed, and full of insight to help anyone improve his practice of Qigong. Frantzis has broken things down into very simple steps, that when synthesized produce dramatic changes within the mind and body. This book compliments a practitioners practice, as well as provides interesting details and information for anyone interested in the fields of health, martial arts, meditation, or even Chinese History. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book can positively change your life, too
Opening The Energy Gates of Your Body is a truly fabulous book. I warmly recommend this well-written book to anyone interested in one's own health, anyone who wants to learn more about chi gung, any athlete interested in tuning up his body after vigorous exercise, or a golfer interested in increasing his flexibility.

Few books make such huge promises and seem to be able to keep them. This book promises for example that the exercises will gradually open up your body to the extent that you will be able to literally feel what is inside you, including your muscles, bones, joints, internal organs and even your nerves. With only less than a year of regular practice, not more than 30 minutes almost daily, I am tempted to believe that this is exactly what these exercises will deliver given enough time.

For me, major results are obvious already now, having only practiced breathing properly into my belly and done the basic standing exercises, but having not even started the moving exercises. The quality of sleep has improved tremendously with no trouble falling asleep. Flexibility in the shoulder, chest, belly and hip area has increased to the extent I did not know was possible, and yet, the muscles are still there. Hands, forearms and feet are more relaxed, as if having more space between the bones. I can hardly wait what it will be like in a few years time.

I originally bought this book, because I wanted to learn to relax my body in order to run, walk and swim with as little effort as possible (these things are taught for example by Danny Dreyer in his books Chi Running and Chi Walking, and Terry Laughlin in his book Total Immersion), but it has already given me more, opened up a new world. I wish I had it years ago during my active sporting years.

Book Description
The Energy Psychology Self-help Guide is part of an internationally acclaimed program designed to teach individuals the basic principles of energy psychology, which can be used to deliberately shift emotions by focusing on the body's energy system.

• A brief, practical introduction for the general public.

• A resource for therapists to give to their clients.

• Clear instructions for bringing about quick and powerful changes in emotions, thoughts and behavior patterns.

• Learn the basic steps for addressing specific problems and goals, for uplifting your mood and optimizing your energy.

Originally written for the clients of psychotherapists who used the acclaimed Energy Psychology Interactive program, this small self-help guide is proving itself to be a powerful, user-friendly introduction for anyone wishing to learn the important methods offered by energy psychology.

Energy psychology brings a new genre of tools for facilitating desired changes in emotions, thought, and patterns of behavior. While it introduces unfamiliar methods and ideas, such as the notion that psychological patterns are coded not only in your neurons but also in your energies (the approach draws heavily from the principles of acupuncture), evidence of its effectiveness is growing.

Energy Psychology Interactive has been reviewed, revised, and endorsed by 26 recognized leaders and innovators within the field of energy psychology, who comprise its primary consultants and formal Advisory Board.

A Prototype of Energy Psychology Interactive, the version for psychotherapists, received the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) "Outstanding Contribution Award" for 2002. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Read "Taoist Yoga:: Alchemy and Immortality" instead, or also!
If you want to understand what Taoist meditation is all about, and help yourself avoid the many dangerous obstacles of this very unique and wonderful - yet very serious - practice, you should at least read the book i suggested, as well.I can see people are deriving some benefit from Chia's book, but just from reading the table of contents and the first few pages, I can honestly recommend that you should study the methods of cultivating essential nature and eternal life from an immortal master of the advanced training methods, which Chia speaks of in the sample. The benefits you will derive from Charles Luk's translation of "The methods of cultivating essential nature and eternal life," called "Taoist Yoga..." will far surpass anything you will attain from Chia's, and incidentally help you avoid the many potential problems that can develop in this type of spiritual training. There are also some misconceptions about Taoist meditation in Chia's book that I can see right off the bat, and if you take my word, and check out Luk's book, you will at least be able to practice Chia's more effectively, and less dangerous!Take this sincere advice from someone who hasn't read but the first few pages of Chia's book, but who has actual first hand experience with the TRUE (complete, as opposed to Chia's incomplete) mechanisms of the generative force, vitality, spirit, the microcosmic orbit, and the original cavity of spirit, etc., etc., etc..One thing I can't tell from the book is whether the whole method is based on turning back the flow of generative fluid, which is what real Taoist meditation is based on.One definite gross misconception that is readily available to view in the sample of Chia's is that Taoist meditation is not dependent on stopping the flux of thoughts in your mind while practicing. If you are TRULY SERIOUS about spiritual growth, progress, and prolonging and enjoying your life, then you must obtain and study Luk's book (AT LEAST as a companion to this one), which also warns against taking advice from the wrong guide, on numerous occasions. If you are NOT serious about attaining the many wonderful benefits that this advanced training method can give, I suggest you not practice Tao Yoga at all, and focus on something less serious for now. Those are my sincerest words, and I stand by them.I feel a responsibility to at least tell you my perspective, so you can make a more intelligent, wise decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Training - Energy Circulation
This book describes the circulation of chi through the body.It is extremely helpful in pinpointing areas where the chi naturally builds.I have been using the techniques described in the book for several weeks now and feel more relaxed, food digests more readily as well as feeling more energetic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on energy practice
I am working through this book.

The main practice is the microcosmic orbit which uses the prenatal energy system. When you were in the womb you received all your nourishment and energy through the navel and this followed an energy pathway to the base of the spine and all the way up to your head, and back down the front to the navel to the dan tien where it is stored.

This exercise trains you get the pre natal energy flowingagain.

Normally, as you go through life your energy does not flow upwards properly and becomes blocked contributing to the ageing process etc.

If you have any interest in energy practice, you should work with the microcosmic orbit. The only trouble is it may take a while before a conscious flow can be felt.

I recommend the five tibetans, which is a simple exercise routine you can do in five minutes. These are also referred to as the fountain of youth exercises. This also brings the energy up to your higher centers or psychic vortexes, and restores their function to youthful levels, thereby retarding the aging process. You can feel the kundalini (base of spine) energy being activated.

If you are new to energy, I recommend you also get Quantum Touch, which has some great exercises and visualizations which can literally have you moving energy within minutes.

Combining a few different methods has worked well for me.As with anything, the more you practice, the more you improve.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I can't recomend this book enough! As I was dealing with the after effects of a kundalini awakening I found the exercises in this book to be amazingly helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Wonders
I have been working with Mantak Chia's materials for the past 17 years.Originally I found few of his books ine one small Chinese store, and decided to give them a shot.I was thrilled when even my very first attempt resulted in noticing the difference. While the books were wonderful I did wish to have personal instruction, too.Lucky for me, about few weeks after I purchased the books, Mantak Chia was teaching a workshop in Toronto.Even though thsee initial practices are rather simple, it helped attending a workshop, too.I have attended all the workshops he came to teach in Toronto at the time.In the meantime, videos came out, so in time I got those too.

You may or may not want to attend a workshop, but if for any reason you don't feel comfortable proceeding on your own, you may consider getting Mantak Chias videos.I like them very much (I have just about all of them)Another excellent resource is the book Qigong Empowerment.
