Product Description
Through the integration of bioinformatic, genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, phenomic and other massive datasets, genomics is revealing exciting new insights into fungal cell biology. The central theme of this volume is the strong impact that genomics is having upon our understanding of fungal biology, across a wide range of species, including model yeasts (such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe), filamentous fungi (such as Neurospora crassa and Aspergillus nidulans) and pathogenic fungi (such as Magnaporthe grisae, Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Histoplasma capsulatum). World-renowned scientists address the following topics in these fungi: systems biology and evolution, circadian rhythms, apoptosis and stress responses, secretion, and environmental signalling networks. Particular emphasis is placed on fungal pathogenicity. Various genomic technologies are discussed, including genome-wide sequence comparisons, transcript profiling, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics. ... Read more

Product Description
The identification and characterization of genes from filamentous fungi has become easier because of the rapid advances that have taken place in molecular biology, including the generation of whole genome sequences. The new challenge facing researchers is to determine the functions of genes and how they contribute to the biology of fungi. To do this it is clear that a wide variety of different experimental techniques will be necessary, ranging from classical genetic analysis and mutant production, right through to cell biology, biochemistry and immunological methods. This book brings together detailed practical guidance from experienced researchers using the full range of these genetic, genomic, cellular and biochemical methods. The authors describe laboratory procedures that have been proven effective for the investigation of a variety of fungal species. They give essential background information, technical tips and detailed experimental protocols, which will prove invaluable to researchers and students studying filamentous fungi. ... Read more

Product Description
In all eukaryotic cells, each fundamental process cycle progression and its control, protein secretion and targeting, transcription and its regulation, mRNA processing, and DNA replication accomplished by essentially identical cellular machinery composed of essentially identicalprotein components. This conservation of function has catapulted the yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe from parochial backwaters to the forefront of experimental molecular biology: What is true for a yeast is true for an elephant, and in experiments you can get the answer a lot faster from a yeast. This burgeoning appreciationof yeasts as model systems for the study of fundamental cellular processeshas highlighted the need for an update of the seminal 1981 monograph The Molecular Biology of the Yeast Saccharomyces. This need is now met by the publication of a three-volume series to serve as the authoritative sequel. The first volume focuses on the genome organization of the yeast Saccharomyces as well as protein translation and its regulation and energymetabolism. Subsequent volumes emphasize such topics as the cell cycle, secretion, and transcription. Together, these volumes provide a comprehensive survey of the molecular and cellular biology of Saccharomyces and Schizosaccharomyces, serving not only as a current summary of every significant area of investigation, but also as a thoroughreference source. These volumes are required reading for everyone in the field and anyone curious about the state of the art of molecular and cellular biology. ... Read more

Product Description

This comprehensive reference work presents an in-depth analysis on the juvenile justice systems of 19 different countries, both in EU-member states (old and new) and in the United States and Canada. The book is the result of research conducted by a group of outstanding scholars working in the field of juvenile justice. The book reflects a collective concern about trends in juvenile justice over the past two decades; trends that have begun to blur the difference between criminal and juvenile justice. The last chapter highlights similarities and differences between the various systems, identifying three clusters of countries with a similar approach to juvenile justice. In particular, differences are found between the Anglo-Saxon countries, and continental Europe. The former have a more formal "justice" approach, with a strong emphasis on the accountability of juveniles, "just desert" principles, and retribution, while the latter still operate on a "welfare" philosophy. Two special systems, the Scottish Hearing system and the Scandinavian model, are presented as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat useful
This book has an overview of several types of Y2H screens and the critical points on getting success. As a first book for someone who was a yeast novice, I found it useful up to a point, but did not bother to read the whole thing, as much of it was irrelevent. Perhaps it's not intended to be read through in this way. Certainly this is a difficult subject to cover fully, as there are now many new variations on the screen which all have their own peculiarity.
A novice might want to read the most relevent chapters, someone with a problem with a specific screen might get something out of their specific chapter, but overall there is an almost equal amount (or greater) of information in the protocol booklets that come for free (or are freely downloadable) with commercial kits for Y2H. Personally I would read some of those first, and they may well make the purchase of this book unnecessary. ... Read more
