Product Description
The Faith Fusion Catechist Guide pagination matches the student book page-for-page, with teaching text for all content in the student book. The catechist guide includes plenty of supplemental information to help catechists prepare for teaching the lessons, with additional content that provides Scripture background, liturgy backgrounds, Church history, Catholic Social Teaching and social justice summaries, and much more. The guide also contains three additional activities per lesson. There is also an ACRE assessment tool in each lesson review. It's great prep for the 8th grade ACRE test. The answer locator box on the review page includes page references. The music connection section provides ties to three of the most popular hymnals for Catholic young people.

Faith Fusion (student text 9781592765935) is a comprehensive 224-page overview of the Catholic faith based on the framework of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each lesson of Faith Fusion is developed around a balance of Scripture and Tradition. Faith Fusion has four units comprising 20 chapters. Each unit corresponds to a pillar of the Catechism. Each chapter includes a complete Scripture reading, Church teachings about how to live the Catholic faith, and the story of a saint or other holy person whose example shows the message of Scripture and Church teaching lived out.

Every chapter includes reflections and activities to help students explore how they can live what they have learned. A chapter review at the end of each chapter reinforces learning. Throughout the lessons, key terms are defined and highlighted at the point of use for greater understanding and comprehension.

Chapters also provide a wealth of contextual content on topics ranging from Church history, Catholic customs, the Sunday readings, Catholic signs and symbols, and more. Further, all seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching are fully presented, with reflections to lead the students to relate the teachings to how they live their lives.

In addition to twenty chapters that correspond to the four pillars of the Catechism and provide a true Catechism catch-up, Faith Fusion also includes a Catholic Source Book featuring: Catholic Prayers and Devotions; a listing and summaries of Catholic Beliefs and Practices; a summary of Vatican II and its key documents; a summary of Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body; a lesson on how to read the Bible and find Scripture passages; an overview of the Liturgical Year, the cycle of readings, and the Holy Days of Obligation; and much more!

Each student book includes a bonus two-sided pull-out poster of Church and world history. The poster features a history timeline on one side, starting with the birth of Jesus and ending with the election of Pope Benedict XVI and that of the first African-American U.S. president. The second side highlights the Church's contributions to Western Civilization in the arts, science, law, and other areas of culture and learning.
The pages of Faith Fusion (student text) are perforated, making for easy distribution of individual lessons. The text provides plenty of space for responding to activities and reflections and includes lesson reviews for students at the end of the chapters, combining workbook and textbook in a single volume, for one price.

Faith Fusion provides a comprehensive Catechism review that makes it an ideal resource for Confirmation prep, RCIA candidates, as well as junior high and high school students. Immediate preparation for Confirmation is also provided in the five Being Catholic mini-lessons.

Fr. Alfred McBride was the doctrinal reviewer for this book and also wrote the foreword. Faith Fusion has also been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. ... Read more

Product Description
Frank Close, a leading physicist and talented popular science writer, reveals the true story of the cold fusion controversy--a story ignored until now in spite of the glare of publicity surrounding Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons. On March 23, 1989, these two Utah scientists held an astonishing press conference, maintaining that they had succeeded, working in secret, in harnessing atomic fusion. What was the basis for their claims to have achieved cold fusion in a test tube in a basement laboratory, while other scientists--using magnets as big as houses and temperatures hotter than those in the center of the sun--were failing to produce as much power as they were using? Why did Fleischmann and Pons proclaim their "discovery" at a news conference, when first announcements of scientific results are almost always made within the scientific community? Why did the full-blown media event inspired by their initial report cause governments to reorient their research programs in hopes of cornering the "new technology"? And why did some scientists recklessly abandon their traditional painstaking methods in haste to be first to prove or discredit the experiment? Acquainted at first hand with investigations of cold fusion on two continents, Close is uniquely qualified to probe the motivations behind Fleischmann's and Pons's startling assertions and to explore the intellectual and political turmoil that surrounded the cold fusion debate. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sun on Earth
1. The fusion reaction produced 26 watts per centimeter cubed, about four and half times the energy put into it, heated up to 5000 degrees F and vaporized a block of palladium, destroyed a fume cupboard, and damaged the concrete floor.
2. The evidence of fusion in addition to heat was the detection of neutrons, tritium and helium.
3. Palladium has an affinity for hydrogen and can absorb 900 times its own volume of hydrogen.Hydrogen pours between the empty atoms of Palladium and it fills up the metal by some ten percent in all directions, putting it under great internal pressure - many thousand times the atmospheric pressure. The increased closeness of the hydrogen was believed to increase the likelihood of fusion occurrences.
4. 1927, Peter and Paneth used hydrogen gas from water.Paneth used Palladium as the cathode (positively charged) so that the hydrogen was attracted to it.The electric voltage forced the hydrogen into the Palladium until the hydrogen was several thousand times the atmospheric pressure. The Helium and energy device was not granted a patient.
5. Two protons can not make one, helium. They can survive the electrical disruptions on their own.Stable helium contains neutrons.
6. d=deuterium p=proton T=tritium He=helium then d(np)+d(np)=he3(npp)+nor d(np)+d(np) = he3(npp)+p
7. The combined mass of the final produce is smaller than the combined initial mass of the initial nuclei. The mass has been converted into energy E=mc^2.Energy is manifested as kinetic energy.
8. Nuclear process release a million more energy than chemical processes, MeV, Million electron volt.
9. A neutron carries away 2.45 MeV of energy, a proton carries away 3 MeV.
10. Two deuterium atoms combining into Helium 4, give off a gamma ray or 24 MeV of energy. The He4 is ten million times less frequent than the neutron or tritium production channels.
11. For fusion to be successful more energy must be released than is consumed.
12. A muon is 207 times heavier than an electron.Muonic hydrogen would be 207 times smaller than ordinary hydrogen.Muons have a mean life of 2.2 millionths of a second.A muon would behave much like a neutralized proton or neutron.
13. Cold fusion seem probable with muon hydrogen in proximity to deuterium; the proton fuses with the Deutrium forming Helium 3 and energy. The energy generated can kickout the muon.
14. Will muon technology produce more energy output than the particle accelerated energy used to create the muon?
15. INEL created a gold lined stainless steel container that could hold deuterium and tritium gases and managed to achieve a rte of eight fusons per muon, where the energy released exceeded the rest energy of a muon.

Electrochemistry:

1. The affects of electrochemistry are high pressures and high temperatures, two conditions required to produce fusion. Fleischmann and Pons used 4 volts to split sodium chloride into sodium and chloride atoms.By heat it would have required a temperature of 40,000 degrees.Electrochemistry was millions of times more efficient.
2. The apparatus: A battery is connected to an anode, a coil of platinum wire surround a palladium rod (1 inch by ¼ inch diameter) and has a small hole to let out gases. The positively charge hydrogen ions are attracted to the negatively charged Palladium. The cell is filled with heavy water and the cell surrounded by water. If a fusion reaction occur inside the cathode, a neutron will be emitted which enters the water and emitting a gamma ray of energy, 2.2 MeV.
3. By forcing deuterium into the palladium host, the energy of the system changes.Pons and Fleischmann estimated the chemical potential of the deuterium could be raised by 0.8 eV through the application. The potential to reach such potentials by compression was 10^27 atmospheres. The pressure of the sun on earth.

Zero Point energy Solution

1. The nuclear reactions in the Palladium had to be 10^11 or one hundred billion reactions a second to generate one watt.

2. 1 joule is 6X10^18 electron volts than 1 watt is 10^12 Million electron volts per second.

3. The Watts must convert to heat.

4. Deuterium gas does spontaneously fuse and the hydrogen density in Palladium is less than advantageous unless an external power source is introduced.

5. X-rays of Palladium through a process called crystallography reveal that the closest that a deuterium nuclei when inside palladium is 0.17 nanometers, more than double the bond distance in deuterium gas molecules of 0.07 nanometers.

6. Pons and Fleishmann were only capable of creating, a 1,000 atmospheres, a far distance reach from 10^27 atmospheres they were predicting.

7. Hutchinson and Scott started experimenting with excess heat generation. An electrochemist where in Charles Scott group reported producing 2 to 3 watts in excess heat. Electrolysis was splitting the D20 inside the cell into deuterium and oxygen but in the closed cell recombining into D20. After 1300 hours, they ran the external water bath at 8 degree C and the excess heat began and continued unabated for 200 hours. The rod was 3 mm diameter and 8.5 cm long palladium and the current density was 85 mm amps/cm^2. 37.6 watts in and 39 watts out.

8. Pon and Fleischmann claimed heat excess of 100 times that from any conceivable chemical reaction. 5 Mega Joules per cm^3 in 100 hours. 10 watts of excess power per cm^3 of palladium, for 120 hours, or 4 MJ of energy.

9. Hydrogen neuron hitting water would produce a gamma radiation of 2.2 MeV with 20,000 events. However, heat not neutrons was the initial observed phenomena. Was it possible that 2.5 MeV with the sharp peak was the correct cold fusion profile?

10. Fleischman said they measured gamma rays up to about 3MeV and say 2.6 MeV decays of thallium. The other peak would have been natural occurring Potossium at 1.4 MeV.

11. Garvin said the fusion peak was the wrong shape.

12. Fleischmann said time to load hydrogen ions into Palladium is time grows as the square of the diameter, one week for 2mm and one month for 4mm.

4-0 out of 5 stars A testament to the scientific method
The fusion of light atoms found in water has been viewed as the holy grail for meeting global energy needs. To date, science has spent millions of dollars on fusion research, trying to create the effect in plasmas with temperatures of hundreds of million degrees fahrenheit. But what if there was a simpler way to fuse atoms? In 1989, two chemists believed they found it. The scientific community was initially turned on its ear by the announcement. The history of the "cold fusion" experiments and the quest to verify them are the subject of Frank Close's "Too Hot to Handle."

Frank Close's book is really a cautionary tale of what happens when sloppy science meets with equal amounts of greed, media hype, and a genuine desire to believe in the impossible. "Too Hot to Handle" is a testament to those scientists who methodically examined cold fusion and relied on the scientific method to arrive at the truth. It also examines the realm of possibilites (particulalrly the negative ones) that would open should fusion power become commercially viable.

Frank Close writes his book with general audiences in mind, but a basic knowledge of atomic physics (the nucleus, neutrons, protons, radiation, gamma rays, fission, and fusion) is a prerequisite. He often repeats himself with explanations of the fusion processes and their consequences. Readers should be forewarned that Close uses British spellings and grammatical conventions. The book also looks like it was edited in a hurry, as there are several typographical errors in the text that slow down readability when they emerge.

"Too Hot to Handle" is a solid book that presents a lot of information compiled over a very short amount of time. It addresses a phenomenon that has been discounted by most scientists, but some still persist in believing in it. Hopefully this work will serve as a light in the darkness to future scientists, regardless of their field of study. ... Read more

Product Description
The book abounds with fascinating anecdotes about fusion's rocky path: the spurious claim by Argentine dictator Juan Peron in 1951 that his country had built a working fusion reactor, the rush by the United States to drop secrecy and publicize its fusion work as a propaganda offensive after the Russian success with Sputnik; the fortune Penthouse magazine publisher Bob Guccione sank into an unconventional fusion device, the skepticism that met an assertion by two University of Utah chemists in 1989 that they had created "cold fusion" in a bottle.Aimed at a general audience, the book describes the scientific basis of controlled fusion--the fusing of atomic nuclei, under conditions hotter than the sun, to release energy. Using personal recollections of scientists involved, it traces the history of this little-known international race that began during the Cold War in secret laboratories in the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union, and evolved into an astonishingly open collaboration between East and West. ... "This ethnography is more like a film than a book, so well does Stoller evoke the color, sight, sounds, and movements of Songhay possession ceremonies."—Choice

"Stoller brilliantly recreates the reality of spirit presence; hosts are what they mediate, and spirits become flesh and blood in the 'fusion' with human existence. . . . An excellent demonstration of the benefits of a new genre of ethnographic writing. It expands our understanding of the harsh world of Songhay mediums and sorcerers."—Bruce Kapferer, American Ethnologist

"A vivid story that will appeal to a wide audience. . . . The voices of individual Songhay are evident and forceful throughout the story. . . . Like a painter, [Stoller] is concerned with the rich surface of things, with depicting images, evoking sensations, and enriching perceptions. . . . He has succeeded admirably." —Michael Lambek, American Anthropologist

"Events (ceremonies and life histories) are evoked in cinematic style. . . . [This book is] approachable and absorbing—it is well written, uncluttered by jargon and elegantly structured."—Richard Fardon, Times Higher Education Supplement

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Specialists!

The skinny: Buy if you're an ethnographer, anthropologist, or if you are visiting Niger. Otherwise, skip.

This ethnography is an academic upgrade to Stoller and Olke's In Sorcery's Shadow, which was their well-received memoir of Stoller's 10-year apprenticeship to a Songhay (Niger) sorcerers. Unlike the previous work of personal experience with more solitary sorcerers, Fusion of the Worlds attempts to show one spirit possession troupe's ability to operate in many different Songhay "worlds." That is, Stoller wants to show his readers how possession troupes often facilitate a variety of practices. These include the relationship between the individual and the group, remembering the past, engaging in political dialogue, relating Songhay religious practices with Islamic ones, and even negotiating rainfall. Possession troupes, like his from Tillaberi, Niger, are much, much more than performers--they are creating, maintaining, reflecting, identifying, mocking, celebrating, critiquing, and changing the Songhay world. Stoller claims they are fusing the world of the possession troupe and its performances with the rest of Songhay life. It is a mutually beneficial relationship, one which is actively and continually constructed by the troupe and its audience.

Stoller uses large sections of quotation, either from tape-recorder transcriptions or field notes, and he argues that this is really the best way to understand the Songhay. This may be true, but it makes appreciating Stoller's thesis much more difficult. The long sections of stories can be enjoyable, but it can also be laborious for those of us who many read this book without a desire to learn the intimate details of Songhay life. It delays academic discussions to privilege the many stories that help show the troupe's activities. This is fair in one sense, but it fails to provide a strong narrative thread for readers to follow. When Stoller has theoretical contributions, they are often short or delayed until the Epilogue. While some readers may be thankful for this, it was a more serious problem for me.

For instance, there are many useful implications of Stoller's suggestion that Songhay possession theater is much more than the framework for theatrical presentation of cultural history. However, when he argues that we should look to the "inner space" that is cultivated by these performances, readers should instantly recognize the cultural dilemma inherent in any interpretation he offers. Even as an initiate, the troupe's performances were never directed at him, and therefore the only access to the inner life of the Songhay is through language. Stoller musk ask, and his participants must answer him. Thus, the entire work is one of translation where Stoller does his best to make sure that his translation is recognizable to BOTH the Songhay (for accuracy) and his English-reading audience (for intelligibility). When he claims that more is going on inside, we should be aware that his translation has now moved into interpretation and theorizing. This isn't a bad thing--after all it is most scholars' goal to say something meaniningful--but it may mean that the very idea that possession might act as a "microcosm of Songhay culture" is closer to what an observer (and not a participant) would say.

Is this nitpicking? No. The integration of interpretation and transcriptions has been achieved with better results by others authors. If reading about poession is your thing, I encourage you to reader Stoller. However, if you want a BETTER book about possession, I encourage you to read Mama Lola instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fusion of the Worlds! Excellente!
I would just like to say that I am taking a class on Magic Religions and Witchcraft from Paul Stoller at the present time. He is very insightful when it comes to not only his teachings, but his writings as well. In the Fusion of the Worlds, there are things I have never learned about before, even being an Anthropology major. His way of describing certain aspects of spirit possession in detail as well as giving first hand experience stories give it more of a flair. If you are interested in learning something new, you should definetely open your mind to this!

4-0 out of 5 stars The fusions
I am currently taking the anthropology class of Dr. Stoller (Magic, Religion & Witchcraft. He gave the class quite a few great books to read, including his. From reading his book, I learned what the title actually means: the social world, the one we live in & the world of the spirits. These are fused when the spirits leave their world and come in contact with ours by taking a medium's body, to transmite a message. Its the possesion of the body and mind, the fusion we cant see, while the medium sees the natural & supernatural. I recommend his book and his teachings!

4-0 out of 5 stars Possesion beyond watching the exorcist
Stoller does an excellent job explaining the various types of possesion ceremonies among the Songhay culture. It's fascinating to picture how the spirits of the outside world can enter a mediums body to basicallycommunicate with the people of Songhay regarding good and bad thingsoccuring within the community. These people turn to the spirit world turnrecieve help with settling disputes, having a good harvest in the future, venting their hate for colonialism, etc. But, not only does Stoller do agood job of explaining these various types of spirits, but he also does awonderful job of interpreting many fascinating ceremonies that he attended. You feel like your actually there, witnessing a spirit taking over amedium's body. I am currently a student of Stoller's, and it was ourassignment to read this book. I liked it very much I am continuing myreasearch of spirit-possesion in the future to learn all I can about asubject that's so intriguing. Stoller's book is awesome! ... Read more

Product Description
Faith Fusion is a comprehensive 224-page overview of the Catholic faith based on the framework of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Each book includes a bonus two-sided pull-out poster of Church and world history. The poster features a history timeline on one side, starting with the birth of Jesus and ending with the election of Pope Benedict XVI and that of the first African-American U.S. president. The second side highlights the Church's contributions to Western Civilization in the arts, science, law, and other areas of culture and learning.
The pages of Faith Fusion are perforated, making for easy distribution of individual lessons.

The Faith Fusion Catechist Guide (9781592766543) pagination matches the student book page-for-page, with teaching text for all content in the student book. The catechist guide include plenty of supplemental information to help catechists prepare for teaching the lessons, with additional content that provides Scripture background, liturgy backgrounds, Church history, Catholic Social Teaching and social justice summaries, and much more.

The guide also contains three additional activities per lesson. There is also an ACRE assessment tool in each lesson review. It s great prep for the 8th grade ACRE test. The answer locator box on the review page includes page references. The music connection section provides ties to three of the most popular hymnals for Catholic young people.

Fr. Alfred McBride was the doctrinal reviewer for this book and also wrote the foreword. Faith Fusion has also been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Modern Coverage, But Typos Galore
If the reader can get past the numerous typographical errors, this text goes beyond the traditional Kalman-filter fare of more conventional fusion texts.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lack of depth but somewhat good overview
This is somewhat a good overview of a particular way to attack the multi-sensor fusion problem. The authors always refer and somtimes present their own work on the subject.

However, this book gathers different partsof reference publications (which I did not have access to) and wasmisleading. For example, some algorithms were not fully explained andtherefore hard to reproduce.

If you are looking for a thoroughexplanation of the key concepts, this is not the book because it presents three solutions, focusing on the authors'. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice to know
Book info : 3rd edition published in 2004.
Pre required knowledge: ISO 9001:2000; 6 Sigma, Performance excellence.
Purchased price : USD 13,00
General : The book is written in a manor that half way the book you get bored. It uses quite a lot of abbreviations so that the author can show you how good he is.

Book content:
The book has got 6 chapters. Chapter 1 (13% of book content) gives a summary of the quality and management systems that have been introduced in the past century (over 30). It describes the creator of the system and it strengths and weaknesses.

Chapter 2 (16%) describes why quality systems were introduced in the industrial revolution, by government regulations and sector/customer specific. It also handles the migration from government and sector specific quality systems to general quality systems.

Chapter 3 (25%) shows that there is more then "document what we do, and do what is documented" and introduces management systems on top of quality systems. It handles the basics of Statistical Quality Control, Total quality Control, Total Quality Management, Lean , JIT and six Sigma.

Chapter 4 (12%) discusses awards like The Malcolm Baldrige National quality Award, what the requirements are for the award. Then these award specifications are compared with Six Sigma and ISO 9001:2000 and how they relate to an organisations Strategic, tactical and operational level.

Chapter 5 (13%) handles change management and what the key success factors are to achieve a successful change management.

Chapter 6 (21%) finally gives you a model for implementing fusion management, the part where you're waiting for. It is very specific and detailed; Not bad at all!

If you get passed the first four chapters you will be rewarded in chapters 5 and 6. Maybe my expectations were to high, based on the other reader's reviews, but if you are able to purchase this book for a reasonable price I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Management
As a long-term quality assurance professional, I was pleased to find in Fusion Management a book that does a good job of describing the chronological progression of, and linkages between, the various quality assurance paradigms and programs, e.g., Reengineering, Lean, ISO 9000, TQM, Six Sigma, etc.Dr. Marash describes the components of the programs and evaluates and recommends specific elements of past programs for incorporation into current quality program thinking. After a good review of quality history, Dr. Marash offers a compilation of the better elements of the better quality programs and describes how they can be synergistically integrated. He concludes with a step-by-step description of how to perform Fusion Management in your own company by identifying, selecting and integrating the "best of the best" in quality programs. This is a solid and well-presented book chocked full of quality information.

5-0 out of 5 stars NOW IT ALL COMES TOGETHER
There have been so many management and quality theories over the years - but nobody has told us how they all fit together - in fact they always bad mouth different programs. This book tells how different quality philosophies build on one another. It also has real world examples of how to effectively implement ISO, Six Sigma and "Fusion Management".With the current economy and layoffs I'm ready to use the roadmap to get my company back on track. It is a good quick read, with interesting case studies (I read it on a four hour flight). It may be the most usable business book I've read in quite a long time. ... Product Description
Offering the prospect of clean, safe, and unlimitedenergy, nuclear fusion has long been the shining hope for a worlddisastrously dependent on dwindling supplies of fossil fuels.Twogenerations of the brightest scientific minds and billions of dollarshave been devoted to designing and building experimental reactors thatmimic the unimaginably extreme temperatures and pressures needed toproduce nuclear reactions akin to those that power the Sun and thestars.

Then, suddenly, in the spring of 1989, Stanley Pons and MartinFleischmann, research chemists at the University of Utah, made anannouncement that rocked the scientific world and made front-page newsfor months to follow.Their claim to have achieved nuclear fusion ina simple tabletop experiment and at room temperature defied sacrosanctconventional physical theories. And the scientific establishmentwould not take that challenge of cold fusion lying down.Withinhours, even as the press was proclaiming a possible new era ofunlimited clean energy, cries of disbelief and accusations ofscientific misconduct and even fraud were heard from withinprofessional circles.

Researchers in laboratories around the world mobilized in anunprecedented effort to explain Pons and Fleischmanns experiments.A mountain of confusing, seemingly contradictory results began to pileup.Soon, leading scientific journals were regularly publishing coldfusion obituaries, and bitter editorials questioning the methods andmotives of the cold fusion pioneers.Cold fusion was dead. . . or wasit?Almost unnoticed, a steadfast group of hundreds of optimisticresearchers around the world continues to search for a solution to thetantalizing cold fusion enigma.

In Fire from Ice, astronautical engineer and well-known author, EugeneMallove, sheds a new and very different light on the cold fusionconfusion. Based on personal interviews with many of the peopleinvolved, as well as his firsthand experiences in laboratories andscientific conferences, he offers a unique insiders view of thatdivisive controversy, while at the same time clearly explaining therelevant science and technology. And Dr. Mallove convincingly arguesthat cold fusion may yet prove to be real.

A story of scientific ambition and professional rivalry, politicalintrigue and hard science, Fire from Ice is the fascinating account ofone of the most intense and momentous scientific controversies of alltime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Will be a Collectors Item
Eugene Mallove tragically lost his life earlier this year in a simple act of barbarism. So odd that a man who devoted his life to one of the most neglected and abstract fields of science in the late 20th Century would die in such a senseless manner.Luckily, Gene's lifes work will not be a waste, as Cold Fusion is finally starting to achieve the recognition it rightly deserves. It will be pinoneers like Dr. Mallove who will be remembered for keeping the Cold Fusion flame alive during some of its darkest moments.Buy and read this book, it's sure to be a collectors item soon, as Cold Fusion will soon emerge as a mainstream field of science and Dr. Mallove will be exonerated for persuing such a taboo field of science.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read!
I am a Coast to Coast AM listener. I would like to have everyone read his book. It is remarkable. I think that the leaders of the world should all have a copy! I would also like to send my deepest prayers to the family of this beloved author, Eugene Mallove. He and his work will be greatly missed. Blessings to his family and friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book!
I thought this was a great book.If you want an intriguing book about the controversial energy source of the future you must read this book.It is an excellent read!

1-0 out of 5 stars An example of wishful ideation ?
As far as style of thinking is concerned, Dr. Mallove is far closer to, e.g., creationists than to, e.g., Carl Sagan. He has let his intense messianic desire that cold fusion be a reality completely cloud hisscientific judgement. The loony, physics-ignorant hordes of cold-fusionadvocates include such worthies as a fellow in Australia who has sold kitsof magnets and a ball-bearing which he has claimed will roll around aclosed track forever with no visible means of propulsion.Dr. Mallove doesnot refute such garbage. In this reviewer's opinion he is eitherdelusional or simply a con man on a par with Erich von Daniken or WhitleyStrieber.

5-0 out of 5 stars Balanced treatment of a profound and overlooked discovery
Mallove has produced a fine documentary of the early days of the cold fusion controversy, which has developed into an underground science.Ignorance of this discovery will be viewed with the kind of curiosity thatcauses us to wonder why the discovery of the 'cat's wisker' transistor inthe 20's did not lead to any kind of serious research effort for severaldecades in a world that desperately needs clean energy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and eye-opening- A new and better way of thinking and running a business
I had the pleasure of being in an intro marketing class taught by the author, and we used this book.It is easy to read, unlike his older, calculus-laden book.Every chapter has in it a moment where you realize that he has just taught you something that in your mind is almost revolutionary.I was so happy that this was the book we used for my intro marketing class and that we did not have to suffer through a "soft marketing" class, learning about the 4 Ps and Porters 5 forces and all that nonsense.Jagpal, dives right into not just marketing and not just finance, but business in general.By reading and understanding this one book, you will be far more advanced than most MBAs.

Jagpal is a genius, and this book makes it easy for you to see why.Looking to boost your career?Read this book, and try implementing some of his teachings; you will be promoted, your business will start to see higher profits, or both.

This was by far the best course I took in my MBA ciriculum, and even without Jagpal to teach you, this book is easy enough to follow that you can learn everything on your own. ... Read more

It's time to completely rethink IT

It's time for Fusion

There is a fundamental dilemma in the world of IT: the technical challenges and opportunities have never been greater, but at the same time the role of IT and the role of the CIO has never been questioned more.

The relationship between business and IT is in many companies at an all-time low. The model of Alignment that we've pursued for more than 20 years in IT doesn t work anymore. It's time for change. It's time for a radical change in the relationship between business and IT. It's time for Fusion.

In times of economic downturn your business needs IT leaders, not followers. Fusion can help CIOs and IT managers to become real heroes in tough economic times, and can help expose the true value of IT.

Fusion starts where Alignment stops: it turns CIOs into business leaders, injects business savvy into the IT department, and transforms IT into the organization everyone wants to work in. Fusion makes a job in IT attractive again.

Fusion is about blending IT into the business, and is a recipe for business integration and innovation. Fusion is about the future evolution of IT. Fusion is the future of IT.

This book provides a roadmap for the journey to completely rethink IT, and transform IT into something radically new.
Gone is the old IT. Long live Fusion. Let this book be your guide to the metamorphosis of IT.

Product Description
This comprehensive resource provides you with an in-depth understanding of finite-set statistics (FISST) - a recently developed method which unifies much of information fusion under a single probabilistic, in fact Bayesian, paradigm. The book helps you master FISST concepts, techniques, and algorithms, so you can use FISST to address real-world challenges in the field. You learn how to model, fuse, and process highly disparate information sources, and detect and track non-cooperative individual/platform groups and conventional non-cooperative targets.

You find a rigorous Bayesian unification for many aspects of expert systems theory. Moreover, the book presents systematic integral and differential calculus for multisource-multitarget problems, providing a methodology for devising rigorous new techniques. This accessible and detailed book is supported with over 3,000 equations, 90 clear examples, 70 explanatory figures, and 60 exercises with solutions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Survey of Data and Information Fusion
Mahler's book is an outstanding effort to lay down a unified framework for data and information fusion.Admittedly it is a difficult book, very comprehensive, probably too applied for mathematicians and too mathematical for engineers. But it contains a very well thought out and technical vision of what it takes to process vast amounts of data, especially data of disparate types, and extract useful and correct information.Written by someone who has worked in the field for many years, I believe this book is a guide to the future of data and information fusion.

2-0 out of 5 stars needless abstractions
I delayed buying this book because I was concerned that it would be like his earlier (co-authored) volume, which I found essentially unreadable. But I broke down and bought it.Sadly I find it even less readable than the first.Seemingly needless levels of abstraction are elaborated with little if any motivation. And the vocabulary is often arcane.Derivations based on this theory and nomenclature are hard to understand, and formulae seem to appear out of nowhere. This provides little insight to the reader.I love theory more, and applications less, than most practitioners, so I am saddened to see a presentation style so little attuned to reader needs. My regret is all the more acute since (by another approach) I know there is something very useful useful here. ...
