I've been working with Phreeqc software for the past years, and this book helps you to understand in an easy-way, the basics of this software. After the review of the chapters, you can go directly to a set of examples that can teach you how-and-what Phreeqc software can do for you. Despite the fact that I found some errors in this book (typing errors and analitical results), this book could be a very good guide that should be in your desk for further questions with Phreeqc. ... Since 1980 a considerable amount of scientific research dealing with geochemical processes in marine sediments has been carried out. This textbook summarizes the state of the art in this field of research. The topics comprise the examination of sedimentological and physical properties of the sedimentary solid phase, of pore water and pore water constituents, organic matter as the driving force of most microbiological processes, biotic and abiotic redox reactions, carbonates and stable isotopes as proxies for paleoclimate reconstruction, metal enrichments in ferromanganese nodules and crusts as well as in hot vents and cold seeps on the seafloor. A new chapter describes properties, occurrence and formation of gas hydrates in marine sediments. The textbook ends with a chapter on model conceptions and computer models to quantify processes of early diagenesis.

Excellent
This volume of the Treatise on Geochemistry is highly specialized in surface and groundwater. Some of the papers published here are very interesting in order to understand, for example, the appearance of trace elements in river waters or even weathering at low temperatures (which is the range of temperatures that a river have). Sometimes becomes very technical and is needed a high base on geochemistry, but most of the time is a very understandable book full of references that can be checked on-line. I recommend this book for graduate students that will like to pursue high studies on earth and planetary sciences. ... Read more

The monograph introduces the reader to the world of inductive well logging - an established method for surveying the electrical conductivity of rocks surrounding a borehole. The emphasis is on developing a theory of inductive logging and on understanding logging tools basic physics, since this theory and understanding furnish valuable insights for inventing practical induction logging techniques.

The first chapter of the book presents the basic laws of electromagnetism from a point of view that will facilitate the application of the theory to problems in electromagnetic logging. Many topics that play an important role in the design and interpretation of tools readings are covered. The vertical resolution and radial depth of investigation of different induction tools is systematically considered. Special attention is paid to principles of induction logging with transversal induction coils, to transient method of induction logging in media with cylindrical and horizontal interfaces and to the influence of anisotropy on the electromagnetic field measured in a conducting medium. Multi-coil differential induction probes and induction logging based on measuring the inphase component of the secondary field or the quadrature component difference are also described in detail. The last chapter is devoted to mathematical modeling of the response of induction logging tools in 3D geometries.
