I needed this book for an awful class. And its boring as hell. But the whoevershipped it did it promptly and arrived on schedule.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Service!
Speedy delivery and a great price. This was exactly what I was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source
I'm a lawyer with a background in physics, but none in hydrology.I got involved in water law and needed to understand what the hydrologists were saying.I was able to read this book and follow the development with little difficulty. I found that it addressed all the topics and used the same terminology and methodology that the hydrologists and modelers were using. It's hard to find references this useful and I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars I would buy form this retailer again
The book had a couple of marks (some very minor highlighting and writing in pencil) that was not mentioned on the description when I purchased the book, but the retailer notified me and upgraded the shipping at no charge. I appreciated the seller notifying me of this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to understand
This book was very hard to follow. I had to use the book for an under grad hydogeology course and I did not learn anything from this book. I had to order another book in order to understand this book. It might be okay for an upper division course but for an undergrad it was almost impossible. I do not recommend buying this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Contaminant Hydrogeology - C. W. Fetter
This is a great introductory book on transport of contaminants in groundwater. Maybe a bit outdated but still a great piece of work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contaminant Hydrogeology
Great condition.Small dent however, hardly noticeable.Other than that is like new.

4-0 out of 5 stars Contaminant Hydrogeology
good reference book. covers the basics of contaminants. has a great section on industrial uses of large amount of contaminants. useful if you have an odd contaminant and may not know what industrial use it originated from. Also details a variety of drilling methods and possible applications. Not a book you read over the weekend to relax..

3-0 out of 5 stars Good reference, bad textbook
If all you need is a reference or a solution for a known problem related to contaminent hydrogelology, you can buy this book (although price seems a bit high for the value).

If you are looking for a good textbook to help you learn and understand hydrogeology - look somewhere else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Contaminant Hydrogeology
The author does a good job of presenting the basic hydrogeologic principles (i.e., darcy's law, scalar, vector and tensor properties of hydraulic head and conductivity) needed to understand the subject matter without unneccessary overlap from his previous work Applied Hydrogeology. The book covers mass transport in saturated media, transformation and attenuation of solutes, vadose zone, multiphase flow, inorganic and organic chemcials in groundwater, monitoring and remediation.this is a well written text presenting the fundamentals but is not an exhaustive summary.I would definitely recommend this text. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars thorough text, not the most reader friendly
This book was required for a Groundwater Contaminant Transport class I'm taking. It is very thorough in it's scope and gives a lot of details overall. My complaint about it is that it is very inconsistent with its notation of equations, etc.ie: it will be talking about the same thing but using different notations and it seems they are different concepts. This book is written from a geologist perspective and not so much an engineering perspective (what I am).It assumes an in depth understanding of geochemistry. One good thing is it has some of the answers in the back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Resource
This book is an incredible reference for a wide array of hydrogeologic topics. Every hydrogeologist or environmental engineer would do well to have this book on his or her shelf.

Product Description
FROM THE PREFACE: This book attempts to combine two separate themes: a description of one of the links in the chain of the water cycle inside the earth's crust i.e., the subsurface flow; and the quantification of the various types of this flow, obtained by applying the principles of fluid mechanics in porous media. The first part is the more descriptive, and geological of the two. It deals with the concept of water resources, which then leads us on to other links in the cycle: rainfall, infiltration, evaporation. runoff, and surface water resources. The second part is necessary in order to quantify ground water resources. It points the way to other applications, such as solutions to civil engineering problems including drainage and compaction; and transport problems in porous media, including aquifer pollution by miscible fluids, multiphase flow of immiscible fluids, and heat transfer in porous media, i.e., geothermal problems. However, the qualitative and the quantitative aspects are not treated separately but combined and blended together, just as geology and hydrology are woven together in hydrogeology. ... Read more

Groundwater is an increasingly important resource to human populations around the world, and the study and protection of groundwater is an essential part of hydrogeology - the subset of hydrology that concentrates on the subsurface. Environmental isotopes, naturally occurring nuclides in water and solutes, have become fundamental tools for tracing the recharge, history, and contamination of groundwater. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good text for advanced undergraduate/graduate students
I read this book for a Stable Isotope Geochemistry class as an undergraduate at UC-Davis and found it moderately understandable. My background is in ecology and as a grad student now I am using stable isotopes to answer ecological questions. I still refer to this text and even compare some of my values to values used in the text. It is well-indexed and easy to find specific subjects. Though the writing is fairly dry, there are plenty of graphs and diagrams that are very informative and display the trends and concepts satisfactorily. I wonder though if some of the data they use is a outdated. They often cite work from 1970's and earlier and I don't know if there might have been some changes in methodology and increases in applications. This book is heavily biased on freshwater systems and I would like to see a new edition with a chapter on marine applications/problems/things to consider etc. All in all I would recommend it to advanced undergraduates and higher in geology, geography, ecology, environmental sciences and those wishing to learn about isotope fractionation and its uses in science generally.

5-0 out of 5 stars The very good book in the field of isotope hydrogeology!
This is one of the best textbooks I have ever read. The book regards thelight, stable isotopes so called in hydrogeology - "environmentalisotopes". The authors present the occurrence of the environmentalisotopes, physical and chemical processes affecting the variations ofisotopic composition of different types of waters in understandable, logical manner - starting from the hydrological cycle, from evaporation andwater vapor through precipitation and fresh water to groundwaters, mixturesand brines. I think that Fritz's and Clark's book is very usefullespecially for those starting the research with the isotopes in watersbecause such complex processes like the isotope fractionation and themechanisms of isotope exchange are explained clearly and effectively.Although the big part of the book, what is also important to me, regardsthe interpretation of isotopic data, possibilities of using them to theevaluation of a water quality, identifying and dating both the modern andthe old groundwaters. I refere this book either for those starting the workwith stable isotopes in waters or for those having many years practice inthat field. In my opinion it is not only the very good textbook but alsothe very well organized compendium of useful scientific information. ... Read more

Stochastic hydrogeology, which emerged as a research area in the late 1970s, involves the study of subsurface, geological variability on flow and transport processes and the interpretation of observations using existing theories. Lacking, however, has been a rational framework for modeling the impact of the processes that take place in heterogeneous media and for incorporating it in predictions and decision-making.This book provides this important framework. It covers the fundamental and practical aspects of stochastic hydrogeology, coupling theoretical aspects with examples, case studies, and guidelines for applications. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
This is a great book, for sure the best and most comprehensive book on stochastic hydrogeology available today. It covers nearly all the fundamental and practical aspects of stochastic hydrogeology, with emphasis on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline. The language is simple, with many examples and case studies. The book is a great reference for scientists who are familiar with stochastic hydrogeology as well as for students and/or practitioners who may get informed about the discipline and learn how to implement the various tools available. The book is at the same time a very good introduction to the matter and a reference book for people who are already familiar with stochastic hydrogeology and want to keep updated with the most recent developments. This is the kind of book to keep on the desk.

Product Description

Providing an introduction to the crucially important topic of groundwater, this text covers all major fields of hydrogeology and includes outlines of the occurrence of groundwater in various rock types, the movement and storage of groundwater, the formulation of groundwater balances, the development of groundwater chemistry, as well as the practical application of hydrogeology for groundwater development. Following a unique systems approach to describe and connect its various elements, the text also explores a large selection of examples of groundwater cases from various parts of the world. In addition, theoretical sections and examples are illustrated with a number of drawings, photos and computer printouts. Suitable for education in hydrogeology at postgraduate and graduate level, the text is also a useful reference tool for professionals and decision-makers involved in water or water-related activities. In the revised paperback edition of Introduction to Hydrogeology (February 2006), suggestions of reviewers, students and colleagues have been taken into account. This means that more attention is paid to the processes in the unsaturated zone, especially those relating to groundwater recharge. Also, in the revised edition, the investigation methods are highlighted in the sections where the related theory is dealt with, and they are not presented in the last chapter on groundwater management. Chapter titles are re-named and some definitions are adjusted. The References and Bibliography section is also extended, some figures are improved, and the inevitable ‘typing errors’ are corrected as well.

Product Description
The theory of linear poroelasticity describes the interaction between mechanical effects and adding or removing fluid from rock. It is critical to the study of such geological phenomena as earthquakes and landslides and is important for numerous engineering projects, including dams, groundwater withdrawal, and petroleum extraction. Now an advanced text synthesizes in one place, with one notation, numerous classical solutions and applications of this highly useful theory.

The introductory chapter recounts parallel developments in geomechanics, hydrogeology, and reservoir engineering that are unified by the tenets of poroelasticity. Next, the theory's constitutive and governing equations and their associated material parameters are described. These equations are then specialized for different simplifying geometries: unbounded problem domains, uniaxial strain, plane strain, radial symmetry, and axisymmetry. Example problems from geomechanics, hydrogeology, and petroleum engineering are incorporated throughout to illustrate poroelastic behavior and solution methods for a wide variety of real-world scenarios. The final chapter provides outlines for finite-element and boundary-element formulations of the field's governing equations. Whether read as a course of study or consulted as a reference by researchers and professionals, this volume's user-friendly presentation makes accessible one of geophysics' most important subjects and will do much to reduce poroelasticity's reputation as difficult to master. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This treatment of poroelasticity is dated.
This book, written by a member of the didactic Biot Club, goes far beyond where Biot ever though anyone would take his linear approximations. The information and approach is dated, and has no application, although the math is fun. As someone who is in the know has stipulated, "This book does not pass the smell test."A better approach is one that addresses real micromechanical processes, and actual phenomenological behavior of natural porous substances, made in a certified lab.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on consolidation
This is a wonderful book, with a wealth of information, and very clearly written. I regret having overlooked it for several years. It also contains many worked examples, from a large variety of references.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Product came in great condition. Invaluable resource for the study of poromechanics or biphasic constitutive theories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Landmark book in geomechanics
This book is one of the most useful I have come across in recent years. Poroelasticity is a challenging field, but rewarding to those who make the effort to study it. Wang does an excellent job, leading the reader from basic principles to a detailed understanding-with this book you can leapfrog dozens of more arcane works and get to grips with real problems. Yet, if you need the detail, a wide range of previous works are referenced, and put into historical perspective: a true work of synthesis. I hope this book will stimulate more Earth Scientists and Engineers to follow Wang's lead. Figures are as admirably clear as the writing. Only spoiled by the drab cover! This book covers quasi-static poroelasticity theory-consolidation and so on.
Now all we need is for someone brave to do the same job on dynamic poroelasticity! ... Read more

Product Description

Groundwater systems are vital to both society and the environment, supporting food production and many other ecosystem services. Sustainable management of this vital resource for future generations requires a sound understanding of how groundwater might respond to the inevitable changes in future climate. In this volume, recent developments within the interlinked areas of the response of groundwater systems to climate variability and climate change are highlighted, using contemporary field investigations and monitoring of aquifers, numerical simulations of aquifer response to climate change predictions and paleohydrogeological studies of ancient groundwater systems. The book provides an up-to-date description of the relationship between groundwater behaviour and ancient, historical, current and future climates for a range of diverse aquifer systems around the world.

Product Description
Originally published in 1989, Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology became the leading textbook on karst studies. This new textbook has been substantially revised and updated.

The first half of the book is a systematic presentation of the dissolution kinetics, chemical equilibria and physical flow laws relating to karst environments. It includes details of the many environmental factors that complicate their chemical evolution, with a critique of measurement of karst erosion rates. The second half of the book looks at the classification system for cave systems and the influence of climate and climatic change on karst development. The book ends with chapters on karst water resource management and a look at the important issues of environmental management, including environmental impact assessment, environmental rehabilitation, tourism impacts and conservation values. Practical application of karst studies are explained throughout the text.

"This new edition strengthens the book's position as the essential reference in the field. Karst geoscientists will not dare to stray beyond arm's reach of this volume. It is certain to remain the professional standard for many decades." Journal of Cave and Karst Studies, August 2007 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Revision of Classic Karst Text
Most revisions of textbooks include a few minor updates, some additional graphics and new developments since the last publication date, and a new cover. This book serves as a welcome exception, in that it contains major changes that enhance a text that was already a classic. The field is rapidly expanding, and the authors are intimately knowledgeable with it all.I've chosen it as our text, and I strongly recommend it for anyone who wants to gain an in-depth understanding of the state of the science.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improved second edition
The First edition of this textbook was already very good, and the second reflects the increase of knowledge since then making it the current text of choice about karst. There can be few readers even those active in the field who will not find something in the way of a new insight or data collection useful to them.
There is a natural reluctance to buy a second edition of a textbook already possessed. In this case it has been so extensively rewritten that such fears are as full of holes as the karst topography in the text!
