There are some general immunogy texts out there however they are very non-reader friendly,especially for a novice in this field. Good organization, mediocre figures
I use this book for first-year pharmacy students, 50% of whom have only associate's degrees and no prior exposure to genetics or molecular biology. The strengths of the book are its brevity, medical orientation (hence the title) and organization. The sequence of presentation seems to make more sense to me than other books I have examined. Kuby Immunology, for example, has far better figures and vastly more detail, especially in molecular biology and signal transduction. There is also a great deal of experimental methodology presented. But the latter features would certainly overwhelm my audience. Also, Kuby shows some peculiarities in the sequence of presentation that add to and complicate the inherent nonlinearity of the whole immunology 'story' that you want to tell students. Much the same thing can be said about Janeway, a book that seems clearly aimed at a postgraduate audience. A real downside of Roitt is mediocre figures, many of which are not even included on the Roitt web site. Kuby has all of its figures unreservedly available on the web. For my particular audience and application, Roitt is the best choice. ... Read more

While some Schaum's outlines are comprehensive enough to sufficiently replace introductory textbooks (Schaum's Genetics is a good example), Schaum's Immunology is not among these.This outline is formatted in a question and answer style that is well suited for review before exams.The outline does not make a good stand alone resource for independent study, however it is great as a supplementary study-aid.So while I do recommend this book for those taking a first course in immunology, I wouldn't depend on it to allow you to throw out your regular textbook or start missing lectures. ... Easy to read and up-to-date
This book is very valuable as an immunology textbook. I bought it to brush up on the basics of immunology for my research and the book delivers the goods. You can get all the necessary information by reading summaries of chapters and the detailed information on topics that interest you specifically. The ability to download pictures and parts of text is also useful. Excellent book!

I prefer the layout and figures in this book over ImmunoBiology. Good reference to keep throughout medical school.

This book not only describes the mechanisms that relate to immunology; it also describes some important experiments that were conducted in order to discover those mechanisms.The text is great for students who have a basic knowledge of immunology (from biochemistry and other classes), but have never learned the intricate details.B cell and T cell differentiation is covered in great detail with colorful figures and tables describing many concepts.Key concepts are also repeated throughout the book to ensure that the reader learns them.
