5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any professional in IAQ
I am a Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant and a board member of the American Indoor Air Quality Council. I have this book in my library.

It's a technical read. Probably not recommended for the average consumer. A must have for the professional. You might think you know everything in this book. You probably do. But the diagrams, charts and discussions on how to investigate building related health complaints make a great reference.

Book Description
Indoor Air Quality and HVAC Systems is a practical guide for understanding the relationship between the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC systems and achieving indoor air quality (IAQ).The book describes the individual components of HVAC systems and the role each plays in maintaining good indoor air quality. It also identifies the techniques available for evaluating the performance characteristics of ventilation systems (including the use of carbon dioxide monitors and sulfur hexafluoride tracer testing equipment). Other topics discussed include the determination of pathways of air movement through buildings and understanding pressure relationships, ventilation effectiveness, and efficiency. The book concludes with an overview of sources of air contaminants to be concerned about when performing an IAQ evaluation. Indoor Air Quality and HVAC Systemsprovides critical information for industrial hygienists, HVAC contractors and engineers, and building owners and managers. ... Read more

Book Description
Engineers are increasingly faced with indoor air quality issues, particularly in the design of ventilation and filtration systems and airborne contaminant removal. Because this specialty has only recently gained momentum, resources have been limited to scattered research papers on this topic, until now.Indoor Air Quality Engineering covers a wide range of indoor air quality engineering principles and applications, providing guidelines for identifying and analyzing indoor air quality problems as well as designing a system to mitigate these problems. Structured into three sections - properties and behavior of airborne pollutants, measurement and sampling efficiency, and air quality enhancement technologies - this book uses real-life examples, design problems, and solutions to illustrate engineering principles and function as a practical tool for individual study.Specific topics of interest include: particle mechanics, gas kinetics, diffusion and airborne transportation; impaction, gravitational settling, and isokinetic and anisokinetic sampling; and filtration, aerodynamic air cleaning, electrostatic precipitation, wet scrubbing, adsorption, and ventilation effectiveness.Including more than 200 problems and a separate solutions manual for instructors, professors and students in engineering, environmental sciences, occupational health, and industrial hygiene concerned with indoor air quality control will find Indoor Air Quality Engineering provides effective methods, technologies, and principles not traditionally covered in other texts. ... Book Description
With the recent tightening of air quality standards as mandated by the U.S. EPA, has come great pressure on regulatory bodies at all levels of government, along with the industries and groups affected by these standards, to better assess the hazards and risks that result from air pollutants. Risk Assessment and Indoor Air Quality carefully ties together the tools and methodologies of Risk Assessment to the study of indoor air quality. This informative text takes a look at the problem of long-term exposure to low-level concentrations of toxins. In addition tocommonly found toxins, such as chemical fumes from furnishings and carpeting, and indoor use of pesticides, this unique volume discusses risks associated with exposure to indoor allergens and infectious disease pathogens such as Legionnaires Disease.Because few scientific models exist for understanding the dynamics of indoor air quality, Risk Assessment and Indoor Air Quality is an essential resource for all students and professionals involved evaluating, testing and monitoring indoor air quality. ... Book Description
Hardbound. People spend most of their time indoors, and indoor air pollutants can cause both long and short term health effects. Awareness of indoor air pollution as an environmental issue, however, is relatively new. This book has been prepared to offer an up-to-date, comprehensive reference manual on indoor air quality to scientists and professionals active in this area. The intention of the book is to bring together a collection of contributions from specialists in the specific disciplines of indoor air quality, covering all points of view from various angles, from building design and building sciences, to health effects and medical diagnosis, toxicology of indoor air pollutants, and air sampling and analysis. One of the characteristics of this book is the multidisciplinary approach that integrates the expertise of medical doctors, architects, engineers, chemists, biologists, physicists and toxicologists. The resulting product is of great educational v ... Read more

Book Description
Finding solutions to indoor air quality problems is often a complex, multifaceted endeavor. This practical desk reference serve as a guide and information resourceboth on treating existing indoor air problems effectivelyand on preventing costly IAQ problems from occurring in the first place. A single discipline approach unfortunately tends to narrow both the control and the treatments options. This book cuts across professions to offer those concerned with the total facility a broader, more comprehensive approach to managing indoor air quality and mitigating indoor air quality problems. The third edition is extensively updated and edited in response to the rapid pace of changes and advances in the IAQ industry. ... Read more

Book Description
This reference manual was prepared to assist electric utilities in helping homeowners, builders, and new home buyers to understand a broad range of issues related to indoor air quality. The manual is directed to technically knowledgeable persons employed by utility companies -the customer service or marketing representative, applications engineer, or technician- who may not have specific expertise in indoor air quality issues.

In addition to providing monitoring and control techniques, the manual summarizes the link between pollutant concentrations, air exchange, and energy conservation and describes the characteristics and health effects of selected pollutants. Where technical information is too lengthy or complex for inclusion in this volume, reference sources are given. Figures and tables are presented to complement text material.

Information for this manual was gathered from technical studies, manufacturers information, and other materials from professional societies, institutes, and associations. The aim has been to provide objective technical and descriptive information that can be used by utility personnel to make informed decisions about indoor air quality issues. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The development of indoor air quality
It is unusual for the authors of a book to warn prospective readers of their book, but my colleague Rick Diamond and I feel we must let potential readers know that this book, which lists us as authors, is a reprint of a report we did for the Electric Power Research Institute in 1984, and was republished last year without our knowledge. The publisher, University Press of the Pacific, states that they look for reports in the public domain that address timely subjects and offer them for sale to the public. While the information in the book is a useful summary of residential indoor air quality, it only covers the field up to 1984-a serious drawback for anyone looking for current information. So we suggest that unless you are interested in the historical aspects of this subject, you should consult more recent books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
This is a State of the Art book.
Unfortunately it is the State of the Art of 20 years ago because it is a republication of a public domain document from 1984.One does not get that idea from the publicaton date, however.

I heartily recommend it for the historians looking to see what the current thinking was during the first Reagan administration.Others may want something more current. ... Read more
