Product Description
With the recent tightening of air quality standards as mandated by the U.S. EPA, has come great pressure on regulatory bodies at all levels of government, along with the industries and groups affected by these standards, to better assess the hazards and risks that result from air pollutants. Risk Assessment and Indoor Air Quality carefully ties together the tools and methodologies of Risk Assessment to the study of indoor air quality. This informative text takes a look at the problem of long-term exposure to low-level concentrations of toxins. In addition tocommonly found toxins, such as chemical fumes from furnishings and carpeting, and indoor use of pesticides, this unique volume discusses risks associated with exposure to indoor allergens and infectious disease pathogens such as Legionnaires Disease.Because few scientific models exist for understanding the dynamics of indoor air quality, Risk Assessment and Indoor Air Quality is an essential resource for all students and professionals involved evaluating, testing and monitoring indoor air quality. ... Product Description
This reference manual was prepared to assist electric utilities in helping homeowners, builders, and new home buyers to understand a broad range of issues related to indoor air quality. The manual is directed to technically knowledgeable persons employed by utility companies –the customer service or marketing representative, applications engineer, or technician– who may not have specific expertise in indoor air quality issues.

In addition to providing monitoring and control techniques, the manual summarizes the link between pollutant concentrations, air exchange, and energy conservation and describes the characteristics and health effects of selected pollutants. Where technical information is too lengthy or complex for inclusion in this volume, reference sources are given. Figures and tables are presented to complement text material.

Information for this manual was gathered from technical studies, manufacturers information, and other materials from professional societies, institutes, and associations. The aim has been to provide objective technical and descriptive information that can be used by utility personnel to make informed decisions about indoor air quality issues. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The development of indoor air quality
It is unusual for the authors of a book to warn prospective readers of their book, but my colleague Rick Diamond and I feel we must let potential readers know that this book, which lists us as authors, is a reprint of a report we did for the Electric Power Research Institute in 1984, and was republished last year without our knowledge. The publisher, University Press of the Pacific, states that they look for reports in the public domain that address timely subjects and offer them for sale to the public. While the information in the book is a useful summary of residential indoor air quality, it only covers the field up to 1984-a serious drawback for anyone looking for current information. So we suggest that unless you are interested in the historical aspects of this subject, you should consult more recent books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
This is a State of the Art book.
Unfortunately it is the State of the Art of 20 years ago because it is a republication of a public domain document from 1984.One does not get that idea from the publicaton date, however.

I heartily recommend it for the historians looking to see what the current thinking was during the first Reagan administration.Others may want something more current. ... Read more

Product Description
When sufficient moisture is available, hundreds of species of bacteria and fungi -- particularly mold -- pollute indoor air. The most important effects of exposure to these pollutants are the increased prevalence of respiratory symptoms, allergies and asthmaas well as disturbance of the immune system. Preventing (or minimizing) persistent dampness and microbial growth on interior surfaces and building structures is the most important means of avoiding harmful effects on health.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific evidence on the health problems associated with this ubiquitous pollution and provides WHO guidelines to protect public health. It also describes the conditions that determine the presence of mould and provides measures to control its growth indoors. ... Read more
