5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
I have the latest Black's Law Dictionary and for on-the-go purposes this dictionary does not miss a beat. There are a few words I could not find, but that is what the upgraded edition is for, right?
For the most part, this dictionary is extremely handy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I'm a LL.M. student, and this dictionary really does a great favor in my learning of the U.S. Law.I was used to using the original version of Black's Law Dictionary during my prior job. Therefore, I bougut this pocket dictionary for my present study.

2-0 out of 5 stars Have internet access? Then why buy?
While this dictionary is not bad, I've found that I encounter many terms in law school that are not in there. Then I'll do an internet search and find that missing term, usually with ease. Now I usually check the internet first.Really the only reason to buy a legal dictionary, like any dictionary, is if you think you will need it because you would have no computer or internet access.Otherwise, save your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars paralegal student
I think I should have just bought the full-sized dictionary for my desk at home, as not all words/phrases are included in this one...a little extra money seems worth it, although, then I could not carry this around in my backpack.

The item came quickly and in good condition. However, seller left their tabs in the book. It would have been nice if those had been removed, as I had to do it when the item arrived.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leg Reg
Fast, as ad, good condition.Gets job done.Good explanations and organized so you can skim easier

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic E&E
Classic E&E - thorough but straightforward.A lot of the important cases are in the examples though, so don't plan on skipping over them. The hornbook doesn't cover the Federal Tort Claims Act or Section 1983.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good Study Aid
I teach Administrative Law.This study aid is clear and concise, with good examples. It is not a substitute for classroom training, but among the study aids, this is the best,in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best admin law supplements around.By far one of the best E&E's
Not a huge fan of E&E's, but this one impresses. It breaks down the subject matter to the point of understanding without sacrificing content.Plenty of examples to go around. This got rave reviews from many in our law class who were forced to teach themselves the material.

Don't hestitate about buying this supplement, whether top of the class or the bottom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Great Advice
This book is concise and to the point.Several similarly marketed products are overwritten and take chapters to convey what Ann Levine is able to in a couple of pages.I would never have been able to put my law school application together so well without the insight and tips provided.Though helpful, online forums are daunting and sometimes confusing, whereas The Law School Admissions Game is organized and direct. On top of helping me through my personal statement and addendum, the book answered all of my random questions about the admissions process in general.I have read about five law school admissions guides, but this is my favorite and most recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Priceless
This book provides a complete guide from cover to cover on what it takes to get into the top schools in the country. Of the many books I purchased I believe this provided information that was most accessible while double checking, reviewing and planning my application strategies. It was also very readable from cover to cover, which I greatly appreciated. Not only does Ann have expertise from working as a Director of Admissions for two ABA schools, she also has her website [...], where she routinely interacts with applicants who share their concerns/questions/troubles/stories with her. You can tell in her book that regardless of your circumstances or situation Ann has seen it before and knows how to prepare the best application for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide - Glad I read it before I applied to law schools...just one little problem
I first found Ann K. Levine and her limitless amount of information and tips through her online blog, but I soonrealized that most of my deeper questions deserved more insight and discussion than already available online. Thus, I decided to pick up her new book in order to "play like an expert" myself in the law school admission game. While I have not yet applied to law school but will be this fall, I can say that this book has provided me with an almost unfair amount of insight into the process and has prepared me to tackle the journey with all of the necessary tools. I STRONGLY suggest this to anyone who intends on applying to law school, especially if you have not already taken the LSATs (but do so even if you have already taken them, like myself). My only gripe with this book is the vast amount of errors that were carelessly overlooked by the author / her editor / the printer. In a guide that constantly reminds you to avoid errors (especially those of the grammatical sort) in the admissions process, I would not expect to find such an embarrassing amount of mistakes. Therefore, I could not possibly award this book with all 5 stars even if the content deserves it. Despite that, I urge you to ignore the author's carelessness about her grammar and instead enjoy the wealth of knowledge which this book will impart on you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
Quite simply, Ms. Levine knows her stuff, that much is clear from the detail in her book. She also pulls no punches and tells you straight out what works and what doesn't.
If you want to get into law school buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't imagine applying without this.
I'm so glad that I got this book before applying to law schools.I'm quite sure that without it, my personal statement would've been cliché.Excellent advice without sugarcoating or coddling. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for ALL of us!
As a person with some formal training, I find myself more and more confused as to what I CAN and CAN'T do to defend myself in potentially bad situations. In fact, I think that if you feel like you already know enough about self-defense, then you don't even know enough to be aware of just how much you DON'T know.

This book is a great help in clearing out some of the most common misconceptions about what is and is not self-defense, as well as how each state handles things so differently.

Of course, no single thing will guarantee your safety... but with Mitch's book, I feel much more confident in my ability to make an informed, and quick decision if needed to protect me and my loved ones.

Keep yourself and your family safe AND stay out of trouble. This book will help with both.

The book is great because it shows you the actual legal code for each state and then gives you a simple, "plain-english" explanation of each part. Handy anecdotes and case stories are included to help clarify even further.

I was always taught that first step in overcoming trouble, is not to get into it in the first place!

So, get this book. ... Read more

I use audio books to get more out of my long cycling exercises. I never comment on them but this "manifestation" is worth the time to review. This stuff is just a very old (not Hicks's) idea repeated a million times (8CDs for suckers) in incredibly boring and annoying (Hicks's and his wife's) voices.

5-0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet.
By far the best series I've read was the Sword of Truth series. This book is a sequel to that series and people were expecting a lot from it. He does not develop all of the characters as well as he did in the other books, but thats because he didn't have the time to. This is a fast paced novel with twists and turns in every direction. It's true he did not use magic as much in this book as in the rest of series, but it's still a very good read. I just hope he makes a sequel that takes place where Jax is from.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Fan Fiction
To be honest, this book read like bad fan fiction. The writing was juvenile, the love story clichéd, and all the material was sucked from his other books.I've read all of his other material, and own the books, which I re-read every couple of years. This new book is written in a completely different voice than the SOT (Sword of Truth) series. The character depth is gone, and the antagonists are ridiculous.SPOILER: They look like pirates and break people's necks?

I was extremely disappointed in this book, and cannot recommend it to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Filler Book
I was swept in by the Sword of Truth series and wanted more after I finished the last book of the series.I actually read this novel in 2 or 3 days.It was action packed and I loved the Sword of Truth connection.I enjoyed reading another Terry Goodkind novel. It was good, not great, but good.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is an amazing read!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a very enjoyable read. It was a fast moving book that kept me reading and never allowed me to get bored with it. The one thing I noticed about it, was that the idea that it was not a sequel to the Sword of Truth series is completely false in my mind. There are so many references to the SOT series it amazed me and at the same time made me happy. When you found out the names of the characters you knew what alot of the side stories were refering to if you have read the previous series.

I do agree that this book can be read and understood without having to read the original series. However I do suggest reading them because of the thing throughout this book may be a little confusing to some.

I really suggest reading this book it is one of the better books I have read in a long time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pales in comparison to SOT
I found myself only reading this book because I wanted to see links to the SOT world. If this book did not have ties to the other series it would get one star. There is nothing compelling in the characters and the plot is weak at best. Would have been happier if it was free! ... Read more

Product Description
This marketing classic has been expanded to include new commentary, new illustrations, and a bonus book: The 11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding

Smart and accessible, The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding is the definitive text on branding, pairing anecdotes about some of the best brands in the world, like Rolex, Volvo, and Heineken, with the signature savvy of marketing gurus Al and Laura Ries. Combining The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding and The 11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding, this book proclaims that the only way to stand out in today's marketplace is to build your product or service into a brand -- and provides the step-by-step instructions you need to do so.

The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding also tackles one of the most challenging marketing problems today: branding on the Web. The Rieses divulge the controversial and counterintuitive strategies and secrets that both small and large companies have used to establish internet brands. The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding is the essential primer on building a category-dominating, world-class brand.

Amazon.com Review
When you call a book The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding, you're pretty much ruling out Oprah's Book Club as potentialbuyers. (Not that Oprah herself isn't a terrific brand.) This is anaudiobook for a narrow demographic: entrepreneurs, top managers, andpublic-relations directors. Coauthor Al Ries comes off like theeccentric genius that most of these managers keep in a basementoffice, only listening to when necessary. When he says, "The power ofa brand is inversely proportional to its scope," and hectors managerswith the idea that "customers want brands that are narrow in scope,"you know he's right (he backs himself up with dozens of examples), andyou know it's the last thing powerful, expansion-minded businesspeoplewant to hear. Coauthor Laura Ries, his daughter and marketing-firmpartner, also reads sections. (Running time: 1.5 hours, one cassette)--Lou Schuler ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Visual Part of Branding
I am disappointed in the visual identity of the author's own brand. If I based his credibility solely off his website, I would conclude him to be insignificant in a branding discussion. Having read his book, I appreciate most of his chapters, but consider him unqualified to speak about the visual aspects of a brand.

To be a memorable and distinct brand, the balance of look, feel and tone is vital for authenticity.

Just a couple of notes:
1. A signature is the combination of a mark (logo) and company's name (logotype).
2. Color wheel opposites are actually red+green, orange+blue, yellow+purple.

1-0 out of 5 stars dated and narrow
This book is more about Ries point of view than any "immutable" laws I'm aware of.While well expressed these views seem to make an imbalanced and narrow assessment of how things work in the world. The book minimized the value of advertising, and the role of design in branding so much that it's not very useful for someone who is actually in branding. It may have more appropriately been called, an approach to doing business by someone who likes Coca Cola.Someone who wants to develop a sales strategy for a global product line might read it... I just didn't find it practical, especially since it's rather dated now, and a lot of the claims have been proved wrong by events since 2003.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great if you skip laws 16 and 17
Almost all of what he wrote is very useful and good. He doesn't know what he is talking about when he talks about laws 16 and 17: The law of the shape referring to symbols and logos and the law of color.

It seems that many of the other laws could be condensed in one or two laws about focusing on narrowing the scope and category of your brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why haven't I read it earlier?
The feeling that constantly passed through my head while reading this was:"why didn't I do it earlier?".
From now it is on my top5 list and on my desk all the time.
And that is 'nough said.

2-0 out of 5 stars Opinions Rather than Facts
I was disappointed that the book is simply the author's view of the world, with no facts or back-up research. As has been illustrated by other popular authors (Malcolm Gladwell's books as well as Levitt and Dubner's Freakonomics), just because something seems intuitive, doesn't mean it works.Ries & Ries use examples to support their theories, but unfortunately what was popular at the time of the book's publishing (2002), didn't continue for some of the companies. For example, they state "expanding your brand will diminish your power" and use GM as an example (which is a good one). But what about Apple's expansion from computers into the iPod and iPhone? They use Starbucks and Toys R Us as examples of brands that are well served by "keeping a narrow focus" and yet Starbucks has stumbled badly and Toys R Us had to sell itself to a group of investors in 2005 due to competition from Wal-Mart (which doesn't "keep a narrow focus").This book could be good to stimulate ideas but don't look for any of the author's theories to be backed up with evidence proving they actually help to make the business better. ... A comprehensive and user-friendly guide to school law with a wholly unique question-and-answer format.

Written in a user-friendly question-and-answer format that engages and encourages readers, the new eighth edition of Teachers and the Law offers future educators a thorough and wide-ranging understanding of United States public school law. Eliminating technical and intimidating legal speak in favor of clear and simple explanations, this comprehensive school law text provides school professions with the knowledge and tools they need to both understand legal issues as they arise and to practice preventive law regardless of their legal background. Blending the use of straightforward and easy-to-understand prose with real-life examples and case studies, Teachers and the Law is a vital reference for those who are likely to face pressing school law questions in their coming careers as educators.

The newest edition of this text highlights current trends and decisions in the most recent areas of school law. New topics include teachers’ controversial postings on the internet, the Teacher Liability Protection Act, peer sexual harassment, disciplining students for cyber-bullying, recent restrictions on teachers’ academic freedom and personal life, protections for gay and lesbian students, and for students’ freedom of religious and political expression.  The eighth edition also explains changes in affirmative action decisions, special education, and the likely changes in the No Child Left Behind law.  In addition, the most current edition divides the topic of freedom of expression into two chapters to give readers an expanded understanding of this increasingly controversial topic for both teachers and students.

Teachers and the Law (7th ed) is divided into chapters and sections, and is written in a question/answer format.Different cases are also introduced, discussed and their significance in education is explored. All kinds of issues are discussed, from what constitutes libel to marriage between administrators and teachers within the same school. The vocabulary/terminalogy is not difficult....you do not need a legal dictionary, nor any dictionary for that matter. It is very interesting, not mundane, and easy to read. One of the few books that I didn't dread having to read for my courses. This is an excellent book to have in your educator's library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, but guidance was helpful
Teachers and the Law (6th Edition) was the primary text used for my National-Louis University (Wheeling, IL) School Law course. Although the text implies that only information regarding teachers will be discussed, Fischer actually covers legal issues that deal with many levels of educational law including student cases, administrator cases, and even cases that don't involve teachers at all, but loosely relate to educational law in general.

This was my first exposure to any formally-presented school law information and I must confess that I was quite overwhelmed at first. Fischer tends to present a major case very clearly and then fully explains its implications and outcomes. However, he then presents several other related cases that often have conflicting or opposing outcomes to the original point.

What I learned from this text is that there is very little "black and white" when it comes to interpreting school law. I was interested to learn that even the landmark decision cases are still constantly debated in the courts and sometimes ignored when decisions are made by judges or juries. It took our experienced professor to help us understand the subtext of some of the cases and discern the probable reasons why some cases were decided in seemingly arbitrary ways.

In general, Teachers and the Law greatly increased my understanding of school law, but without an experienced professor, I would not have gleaned as much practical information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Teachers and the Law
I received the book in good shape. The cover looked next to new and there were very little marks or highlights in the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Teachers
Case law, unless done perhaps by the likes of John Grissam, is not page turning material. However, the authors have done an incredible job of putting very pressing and often complex areas into an accessible and engaging book.Written in an easy to use question and answer format, the updated book touches on education legal issues ranging from free speech, to students with disabilities, to internet issues. While of great use for educator (or educators to be), the book could also easily be adapted for classroom use, either as a debate or research starter.Worth every penny of its price. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Napoleon Hill an EXCELLENT read
Napoleon Hill was a truly AWESOME read! This book was a great help with my self esteem, self confidence, finance, positive thinking & attitude, as well as many other fine attributes. This would be a great read for someone in business, or anyone wishing to adjust attitude or learn more about human nature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Napoleon Hill Success
Every person in the United States should own this book. I bought my first edition in the 70's.
Now I buy it to give to special people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Napoleon Hill
Years ago I read "Think and Grow Rich" and found it fascinating. I did not know about this book. I purchased the book and the audio. I think anyone that wants more out of life should read this book. I think it is great and an easy read for everyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars What is missing???
I hold Laws of Success in very high esteem. It is without a doubt one of the most monumental works of personal development in print today. I actually own 7 copies of this book.....ranging from worn copies bought when the hardback was out of print to like new collector editions, as well as one 2 volume paperback version. My concern is this........this is advertised to be "Complete" yet contains only 445 pages according to the technical details listed. The "Complete" copies I already own have around 1200 pages, so what is missing?Acknowledged, many of the left hand pages in the original are decorative with quotes, etc. rather than actual text of the book. But even allowing for that.......this should have some 600 or more pages.......again, what is missing?I have checked the physical dimensions and they are approximately the same........the original has reasonably small print, so I cannot seeing this new version to have any smaller print and still remain highly readable. And "conviently", this version does not allow you to preview sample pages as does most other books, and the other versions of this one I have purchased.

I would say.......if you can find a real "complete" version, by all means get it. It will change your life. But if you buy this one, make sure you are getting ALL you are paying for. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Minimally helpful
I read this book when applying to law school and found it to have much of the same information I found in other guides. The trouble with this and other books like it is that they put too great an emphasis on softs which give applicants an unrealistic picture of the admissions process. Most of the decision is made based upon two things: GPA and LSAT.Period.Essays and other softs are important at some schools. But the information this book contains on those points is better covered in other texts.I give it three stars because the information is useful, although also available elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful!
I was told that I absolutely had to buy this book, so I did.I haven't had much of a chance to look through it yet, but it seems to be tremendously helpful. It goes through the steps of getting into a great law school.Even if you don't have much time before application deadlines, there is a section for what to do right now.Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Honest Book on the Market
As other reviewers mentioned, Montauk's book is the most complete tome on the subject of law school admissions to date. It's also very honest. It is hard to get into a top 20 law school and he makes sure the reader understands this fact.He also lets the reader know that for many people, law is the wrong choice and will only lead to lots of debt and unhappieness in the future.

The negative reviews on Amazon seem to come from people who were taken aback that Montauk might suggest that law isn't right for everyone, but he is really doing potential applicants a favor. If a brief diatribe on the pitfalls of law scares you away, you probably weren't that committed to it anyway. The dark secrets that law schools/law firms don't want you to know:

1.If you don't go to a top law school (at least top 25), you will not have a good chance of getting a Biglaw job, i.e. the highest paying most coveted jobs in the industry. If you pay full price at a school outside of the top 25 and expect to make big bucks upon graduation, you might find out, as so many other students have, that you cannot find a job that pays well enough to justify the $150k in loans you just took out for law school.

Note--If you have alternative career plans or receive substantial scholarship money, then this changes the equation.

2.Most lawyers are unhappy with their jobs (regardless of salary).A recent survey showed that 75% of lawyers would not go to law school if they could do it all over again.

Moral of the story:Forget the "you can do whatever you put your mind to!" crowds and take a realistic look at your talents, situation, and the legal profession. Some people aren't well-suited for law and many people will hate the profession--even those who are good at it.Just realize this before spending 3 years of your life and $150k-$180k to go to law school.

If you decide that law is for you, Montauk's book is the best for increasing your chances of admission.

5-0 out of 5 stars kla

Richard Mountauk's guide on "How to Get Into the Top Law Schools" is a thorough, comprehensive, candid, and convenient must have for anyone considering law school. It takes you from the very initial process of thinking about law school to dealing with acceptances, waitlists, denials, transferring options, and to first-year law school experience. It gives you the tools you need on how to market yourself effectively and strategize your application packet to put you in the best light possible, and thus possibly improving your chances to your top choices. With cited quotes and excerpts on various subjects and topics from admissions officers themselves, that are heavily inserted throughout the entire book, one knows they are getting first-hand knowledge. This is an organized, effective, and excellent resource for one to have for a behind the scenes look at a process that few are privy too. Definitely a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Guidance
This book has served as a valuable guide through my undergraduate years.I purchased the first book before my sophomore year of college, and I believe the knowledge I gained has helped me to make the right choices in my endeavor toward law school. If you are an undergraduate student, and you aspire to law school, buy this book now.The longer you have it, the more helpful it will be during your preparation. If you are ready to apply, you will learn how avoid mistakes and put forth the best possible application you have to offer. The quotes from admissions people helped me to understand which schools I was best suited for and which ones to avoid. The path of law is a very important choice, and I appreciate that Mr. Montauk takes a prospective student from that decision process all the way through to tips for study success after the acceptance letter. As a side note, I had an urgent question about my law school application, and Mr. Montauk was kind enough to return my call (his phone number is in this book) on a Sunday.I wholeheartedly recommend this book! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY PURCHASE
PLEASE SHIP PURCHASED AND PAID FOR MERCHANDISE!!SECOND TIME I HAVE REPORTED LACK OF DELIVERY!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not up to snuff like most Emanuel outlines
This was my least favorite supplement. However, people using a different casebook Criminal Law: Cases and Materials than me have found it useful. The hypos (questions) at the end of each topic were very useful, but there were no flowcharts or checklists other than a few "tips" at the end of each chapter. It is organized the same as other Emanuel outlines, with a condensed outline, a more in depth outline and then some exam questions at the end.Crunchtime is identical except for the in-depth outline.

I would suggest looking supplements up in the law library and reading a few sections.I used Understanding Criminal Law when Emanuel and my casebook Criminal Law: Cases and Materials didn't cover the topics well.I only began using Casenote Legal Briefs Criminal Law: Keyed to Kaplan Weisberg & Binder 6 Ed (Casenote Legal Briefs) near the end and really wished I had used it from the start.Emanuel just didn't cut it like the keyed versions, but Casenote and Understanding got me through.

I found Siegels Criminal Law: Essay Multiple Choice Question Answer 2009 (Siegel's Series) far more useful and wish I had used from the start. Also Acing Criminal Law was useful for brief info when outlining and working through outlines. The checklist/flowchart format is remarkably useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent supplement for the class!
I am currently using this book and I firmly believe that it is one of the best supplements to this class. I don't know how I would survive in this class without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for review and fundmentals
This text provides a sound foundation for students beginning the study of Criminal Law.While many of the Criminal Law courses for undergraduates are narrowed down versions of the original cases, this text provides students with the ability to read cases from the original source. This merges the law along with the social expectations held for law and resulting policies. I use this text to encourage a critical analysis of law and all the actors who impact upon our Nation of Laws. I highly suggest the use of Law and Society by Vago as a companion text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great service from vendor

I purchase a lot of used books on particular topics. The vendor that supplied this book was especially prompt and everything that was done was first class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book- covers the basics
Im a lawyer , the problem is if you want to start a solo practice and dont have the connections, the author talks about, basically starting on your own after 15 years in personal injury, making millions for other people- this book doesnt address that.

In other words starting out with few clients, starting a store front, startingwith very little axcept your knowledge of trials and litigation

Im looking for that book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Foonberg is the MAN
This is hands down the most helpful and informative book on starting your own law firm.It is useful to novice and master alike.Read it before you gear up your practice. Then keep it on hand for encouragement and advice as the firm grows. My husband started his own firm and found this an invaluable resource. Now, almost a year later, he still finds pearls of wisdom that are applicable.Mr. Foonberg is incredibly generous in sharing the tools and attitudes that will benefit your practice.Take advantage of this good advice.Even if your resources are limited, this is the book to buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just for lawyers...
I'm a consultant, not a lawyer, but Mr. Foonberg's book is one of the best I've read about managing and building a successful a solo practice. Consultants will find much of what Mr. Foonberg writes about maintaining client relationships, billing, and building up a practice both relevant and practical. I also liked the short chapters, which make it easy to pick up the book over and over again, getting a few nuggets of knowledge each time. The author's humanistic, ethics driven approach is also much appreciated. I would have given this book five stars, but I agree with what the reviewer Michael G. Romano and others have written (below) that the sections on the internet and especially the use of email are remarkably out of date for such an otherwise useful book. Despite that shortcoming, Mr. Foonberg's many insights and practical methods for lawyers have direct relevance for consultants as well. This is a book to be put on the shelf next to Alan Weiss's many excellent books on building a consulting practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enough specifics to make price worthwhile
Couldn't get it at the library, so took a chance and bought it. I've been in business a while and just wanted supplement existing knowledge. There are some REALLY bad books in this category- I think its worth about $30. I would refer back to it. ... Read more

A Q&A with Ingrid Law

Question: What inspired you to write Savvy?

Answer: When I started Savvy, I wanted to create a different kind of magic—one that called to mind the feel of a modern American tall-tale. I wanted to break away from the traditional tales about magic and find roots in the soil around me. What would magic look like if it sprang up in the small towns of America? And what in the world would it be called if I didn't want to call that distinctive know-how magic? I enjoyed setting Savvy in our ordinary, everyday world, and filling it with larger-than-life characters who have very normal, human reactions and fears.

Q: Do you have a distinctive talent, trait or "savvy" of your own?

A: With a savvy, there is always the element of the ideal versus the reality-what you dream about versus what you get. If I could pick, my savvy would probably be the ability to fly or to breathe underwater. But if I were to declare what my real, true, everyday savvy is, I think that I would have to say that I smile a lot, even through rough times. And I tend to spill things-usually on my shirt at dinner parties!

Q: What was your family like growing up?

A: Growing up, my family consisted of a mom, a dad, an older sister, a few (dozen) rabbits, numerous hamsters, gerbils, several birds, and a goldfish that lived about twelve centuries in goldfish years. I didn't have a big family like the Beaumonts, but we did have our own share of unusual attributes, and my sister and I were always encouraged to follow our hearts and explore our talents.

Q: Are any of your characters based on you or your family?

A: I think it might be impossible not to put a tiny bit of oneself into at least a few characters. Like Samson, I prefer solitude. Like Lester, I tend to twitch. Like Lill, I often feel big and small at the same time. And like Mibs, I still struggle to weed out other people's voices from my head.

Q: Savvy is your first novel. What would you be doing if you weren't writing?

A: I'd be worrying more! I think that anxiety is simply an active imagination put to the wrong use. I try to redirect all of the 'What-If's' of worrying into the 'What-If's' of storytelling.

Q: Where do you write?

A: I have an overstuffed chair that's big enough for me to sit in cross-legged and pull a laptop table up to when I write. It's like a nest. It's my favorite place in the house.

1-0 out of 5 stars tired of these trite books for "children"
It would be nice it the people who publish books had a real grasp on what age group children read at for the decisions they make on placement of books by age category. This book might be classified more as six to nine rather than nine to twelve. And further, as with all the books being published for young people currently, there is a lack of sophistication in the books, a general down-grading of the writing, where simple sentences, even ones stuck full of adjectives in order to disguise a lack of ability, are shoved upon the kids of today. When one looks at the literature of yesterday, one sees that there was not this downgrading of writing, just because of age. Children were expected and required to challenge their brains and by doing so, grew them.

Can't say I hated the whole thing, but isn't it about time that the publishing industry started publishing some of the writers who are, shall we say, better at more than just a simple sentence?

Oh, and this author apparently feels that making a mother and a girlfriend into shrills is appropriate. For shame on her. How many times have we seen that? Isn't it bad enough that hollywood constantly denigrates mothers and girlfriends...I would never recommend this book for that reason, and for many others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read for all ages!!
I purchased this book for my two children who will be entering 4th grade. I am a busy mom who never finds time to read, but after receiving this book from Amazon, I decided I'd attempt to read it before they did. I immediately became attached to the characters and couldn't put the book down, reading it in two days! My son is reading it now and he can't wait to find out what Mibs' savvy is! I'm pretty strict on what my kids are exposed to (books, television, music) and this book meets my approval! Ingrid Law is an excellent writer and I look forward to reading her next book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for any age!
I purchased more books to share with my family, the story was wonderful!I hope this author creates more!

no exageration in saying that this is the best book i have ever read. the first time i read it i literaly couldnt put it down. this is a book that you will end up reading over and over again, picking up small details you didnt notice the first time. i was instantly hooked by the amazing story of mibs and the adventures and problems she faces. this book made me wish i was part of the beaumont faimily and had a savvy of my own.
i reccomend savvy to anyone who enjoys reading good books! you will love this story!
also, the cover is beautiful and i cant wait for scumble to come out!

5-0 out of 5 stars How I learned Crim. Law
I pretty much attribute this book to my success in Crim. Law.You can pretty much just use this book to build an outline around. The whole series, but this one is especially clear and helpful.I used it for the last couple weeks before my exam to help study, but I am sure that it is equally beneficial as a resource over the course of the class.

I had high hopes that the fifth edition would not have the problems described in the reviews of the fourth edition. Alas.

The other E&E books I have read have been helpful, informative, and entertaining, but this one is confusing, massively boring, and leaves more questions than it answers.

The critical reviews of the fourth edition do a good job of explaining what is unfortunately wrong with this book. Read them and proceed with caution. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book.
I've read this book several times now and it is a really useful guide to understanding the Law of Attraction. This book shows that you can change your life by attracting good things into it. I've read several other of Jack Canfield's books and if you're a fan like me, you won't be disappointed. He has a really good way of explaining the subject and showing you what you need to do to affect change. This is a very useful thing to know.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource if you're just starting with the Law of Attraction
I believe that today most of us are familiar with the Law of Attraction thanks to The Secret Movie. However, the movie only scratches the surface, which is understandable because the purpose of the movie is to bring the Law of Attraction to general public, and there is not enough space to explain all the why's and give us enough guidance to apply the Law of Attraction.

For those interested in the Law of Attraction, this book is a must. Personally, I'm a big fan of Jack Canfield, for many reasons, and in this little book he does a great job explaining how the Law of Attraction really works and gives us practical tips and guidance to help us implement the principles of the Law of Attraction into our life.

The book is divided into fifteen chapters that guide you through the Law of Attraction in easy, simple steps. I particularly like practical exercises throughout the book, especially those regarding affirmations. I very much believe in the power of positive affirmations and visualization and I teach these techniques to my clients. Most of us don't realize that it's not our consciousness that influences our life. It is our subconscious mind that decides how we live, what we think and feel. Affirmations and visualizations are absolutely indispensable to reprogram our brain and change our subconscious mind so that it reflects what we truly want, need and desire, and becomes our ally.

Overall, this book is a great resource if you're just starting with the Law of Attraction and if you want to make it a part of your day-to-day life. The Key To Living The Law of Attraction will answer all your questions and help you understand what "The Secret" is really about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep Thoughts
Mr Troward thinks deeply and seeks to bring the reader into an understanding of basically, "cause and effect". He paints a broad picture of how things start and the law or principle by which they originate and translate into their intended purposes. He uses science frequently to show that all things that we have been able to use for our advantage we have discovered certain laws by which they work. Once we find the laws we have been able to unfold a myriad of uses and applications of the laws for a vast number of things. The "Law and the Word" is his premise for the explanation of how things originate and produce their effects. He starts with God and creation. God spoke (his thoughts) and things emerged and took shape and form. Man being an expression of God made in his image accomplishes the things he does in the same manner by his word (thoughts) and the law translates them into reality. These realities may come into existance by various means including his own efforts in cooperating with the law of his being. Troward says that it is always the law and the word, but the word comes first and the law brings it to pass. Although Mr Troward ventures into some areas of thought that are quite challenging to get a hold of, he often returns to a scriptural basis for most of his insights. Of all the new thought writers Thomas Troward is perhaps the mostscriptually focused in all of his writings. There is a reverence and a respect for the bible and he constantly uses biblical texts to help support his conclusions. He certainly uses terms like "we may reason" or the word "speculate" in stating some postulations but he unwaveringly uses biblical quotes with a firmness of faith and affirms his obvious recognition of the authority of Christ and the meaning of redemption. The last chapter is full of scripture and he states clearly his belief in "the atonement" and reconciliation with God that allows the higher dimensions of man's ability to use the Law and the Word in unlimited ways. 5-0 out of 5 stars Troward Fan
The Law and the Word is a excellent outline of just what the tittle states. Troward being one of the forefathers of New Thought gives a very insightful and scientific outline of the power of our thought and spoken word and how the Law works. If you have not read some of his earlier writings like "The Creative Process in the Individual" and become familiar of his way of teaching and writing it may be hard to grasp. I have been fortunate enough to been exposed to some excellent teachers in New Thought and once I "got" how Troward writes it opened new doors of thought and perspective. In all honesty Troward was the forefather of Qauntum Physics from a intuitive level. So I suggest when you read him have a open mind and open heart and let his words speak to you and the glimmers will shine through. If you would like to get a sample of one of the next great teachers of this generation visit [...]

2-0 out of 5 stars .....?.....
This book repeats itself alot.. and goes no where.. with no point in sight.. Hard to understand what he is trying to say.. because the author seems like he is defending himself, instead of sharing his insight. And so he use these fancy complex saying over and over again. I guess we are suppose to be impress with that. I got nothing from this book! Sorry Thomas Troward. ... Read more

Product Description
Constitutional Law: National Power and Federalism, which is part of a two-volume set, is a problem-oriented guide to the principle doctrines of constitutional law that are covered in the typical course. This straightforward text walks the student through issues pertaining to the structure of our constitutional system, including judicial review, justiciability, national power, supremacy, the separation of powers and federalism, as well as some of the structural limitations that the Constitution imposes on state powers.

Designed to encourage students to think about the larger issues of constitutional law with both depth and perception, this straightforward and informal text:
- Utilizes the unique, time-tested E and E pedagogy that combines textual material with well-written and comprehensive examples, explanations, and questions to test students' comprehension of the materials and provide practice in applying legal principles to fact patterns. The questions (in which there are often a variety of issues presented in one fact situation) are similar to those on a law school or bar examination;
- Is organized to parallel the major casebooks and will complement any constitutional law casebook;
- Explains legal concepts and principles in digestible sections, followed by examples and analyses that illustrate how to apply these concepts and principles in hypothetical situations;
- Is part of a two-volume set that includes a corresponding treatment of Individual Rights. Together, these two volumes compose a strong and sophisticated foundation in the doctrines and methods of constitutional law and constitutional argument.

With thoroughly updated text and examples and explanations, the Fifth Edition also incorporates important Supreme Court cases decided during the three terms since the publication of the previous edition, including:
- Hawaii v. Office of Hawaiian Affairs, on adequate and independent state ground of decision;
- District of Columbia v. Heller, on original understanding;
- Horn v. Flores; Massachusetts v. EPA; and Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No.1;
- Hein v. Freedom from Religion Foundation, Inc. and Lance v. Coffman, on citizen and taxpayer standing;
- FEC v. Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc. on mootness;
- Van de Kamp v. Goldstein; Pearson v. Callahan; and Safford Unified School District #1 v. Redding, on government officials' immunity from damages;
