2-0 out of 5 stars All been said elsewhere and better
This book had a few good points but they've been said better in other, similarly themed books. The main thing that was hammered into my head was the whole mastermind group. That concept is really lame and not workable unless you can find human lemmings. Not a very useful concept in this day & age.Save that for MLM meetings.

5-0 out of 5 stars It does not get much easier than this
This very short book asserts that the Law of Attraction (who has not heard of it?) can be activated in your life using just three simple steps.

The first step is to put your dreams and wishes on paper. Don't worry if they are too big, or not "appropriate," putting them on paper and hanging the list where you can read it several times a day, is much more powerful than just saying it to yourself.

The second step is to donate to charity. Clearing out clutter, and giving it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, shows that you are making room for the good things that the universe will send your way. Donating money, with no expectation of getting repaid, is much more powerful, and shows that you are confident that the universe will financially "take care of you." It certainly does not have to be a huge donation; even 10 dollars a month is very reasonable. The joy you feel at financially helping someone in need; that's the important part.

Finally, join or start a mastermind group. It sounds sinister, but it is actually a group of 6 or 7 people who meet regularly to help each other access the Law of Attraction (strength in numbers). The meetings can be in person, by phone or over the Internet. The book gives details on how to run the meetings. As with any group, those who don't take it seriously, or are frequently absent, should be quietly dropped.

There will be days when, despite your best efforts, it does not seem to be working. Set aside a day where you pledge not to say anything negative about anyone or anything. If that is not possible, start with an hour at a time. Changing your beliefs and attitudes, to be a more positive person, will take practice, but it is very much worth it. Another idea is to pretend that all your dreams and wishes have been fulfilled. Write a letter to God, Spirit, the Universe, etc., saying thank you for your good fortune.

It does not get much easier than this. It is very easy to read and follow, it is full of information that anyone can use, and is greatly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Easy Way To Do What Works
There is a reason why some people are successful and some are not. Many chalk it up to luck, intelligence, hard work, and these all play a factor in our success. Although the one single factor all successful people have in common is their mind set. Many have bad luck, some are not so smart, and some successful people are even on the lazy side.

The one thing that most people who make it have discovered is how to have the right attitude and mindset to manifest wealth into their lives. It's no secret that the secret works and if you want to manifest abundance in your life it is as simple as doing so. The problem is that many folks over complicate things. With the Rich Switch you discover a simple 3-step system that will have you manifesting abundance into your life as easy as flipping a switch.

Even when we no what to do having a simple primer and step by step plan makes things much easier. Great read!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blueprint for LOA Mastermind Groups
What a great book! Although I have long believed in the ability of the mind to make a difference in our lives, I have typically avoided most of the "Law of Attraction" (LOA) books. With this simple book, I do feel like a switch has been flipped in my thinking. The book is concise, low on fluff talk and very easy to follow. Having worked in a number of "Mastermind" groups myself, I can see how these groups could really help me to focus on the ideas of LOA. If you have never been in or directed a Mastermind group, this book will be your initial blueprint.I appreciate the direct approach of the book and will be sharing it with others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this Book!
This one is definetly a keeper! One of the main things that I appreciated from this book was Step 2..the step about Charity. I believe that the lack of this step is one reason why so many people go wrong with the law of attraction.

This book details how to change your thought patters and therefore change your behaviors and your life. I also especially liked the "Negativity Free Day" that he talked about. I am going to challenge my friends to do this at least once per week. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding book for those in financial need.
It has been said that if we "seek ye first the kingdom of heaven all else with be added unto us".The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity show us how to achieve a mindset and lifestyle that puts God first and foremost. "The ancients intuitively knew that giving, sharing, and putting God first financially was the first step to permanent, enduring prosperity".This book is not some get rich quick scheme or airy fairy-hocus pocus technique. It is a way for the reader to implement into our lives and affairs day to day practical applications though the use of affirmations, tithing and prayer work promoted by the spirit of giving, sharing, kindness and love. We must remember the old saying, "Faith without work is dead".This book helps us to understand the true meaning behind that statement. It teaches us to practice what we preach in a way that brings a change to our lives that we never before thought possible. It is a book that helps us to focus our thoughts on happiness but also to act and react in a joyful manner without any thought of self gratification. If you are in need of monetary substance, this is a great book for the person that is willing to take the time to learn and grow in order to implement a change that will last you the rest of your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly True
There's something instantaneous that happens when I read this book.Everything in my life improves.I've read it repeatedly, because of that. This is a great book to share with our friends and loved one's, especially in this horrible economy that we're in.Give them the lift they need and a prayer that they'll read it and allow the power of the universe to work for them in a positive way.

5-0 out of 5 stars SPIRITUAL CLASSIC! I PLAN TO READ ALL THE BOOKS BY PONDER!
you need to read this book, its so easy to understand and yet so detailed and comprehensive. Cathrine Ponder has profound and comprehensive insight into how the universal laws of the mind work to bring positive manifestations of prosperity and abundance into our lives. this particular book is similar to many New Thought and positive thinking books you will read. BUT Cathrine Ponder is the ONLY author who talks about the GOD of the bible in her books even has a chapter on prayer with a section on praying to Jesus. I looked for other books written by this author and discovered that her books go deep into the bible to discover New Thought and positive thinking principals found in old testament books and stories as well as a book on Jesus. I'm really excited to read her other books, since her series has such a focus on the bible. It seems to me that her philosophy is that the bible of Christianity is a positive thinking prosperity book and i want to learn how to interpret and read the bible as she does! I believe that I will enjoy reading all her books, I always re-read The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity!

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid overview of material
This book proved to be a critical supplement to my poor immigration law course. The book provides a very helpful overview of the entirety of immigration law in the U.S., and really helps clarify the complex categories and definitions that pervade the subject.Depending on how theoretical or policy-oriented your course is, you might actually learn more about the black letter law from this book than from the course, as I did.Overall, given the low price I would recommend purchasing it even if you only think it would be marginally helpful to your studies.

4-0 out of 5 stars (4th ed.) Good overview/foundation for further research
The most difficult thing about studying any body of laws resides, not in its substance, but in its presentation. One advantage of immigration law is that it relies heavily on fairly stable categories. This book should help anyone but the most impatient to build a first outline of the main categories of immigration law--with helpful annotations.

15 chapters: 1-4 (background information--including history and constitutional law); 5 (immigrant visas), 6 (nonimmigrant visas), 7 (zooms on student visas--a sub-category of nonimmigrant visas), 8 (removal--formerly "deportation"), 9 (inadmissibility), 10 (refugees/asyless), 11 (international law), 12 (citizenship), 13 (zooms on rights of aliens in general), 14 (criminal aspects of immigration law), 15 (ethical practice).

My main advice is to take good note of the general INA and CFR provisions under each category and subcategory, and names (and holdings, why not) of important cases. Add that to your outline, and you have a fine guide for further research. In other words, if your goal is to familiarize yourself with the field AS A WHOLE for the first time, don't get bogged down in the discussions of legal history and cases at first (yes, this is not a manual, so what's the point?)--except for the general history of US immigration law at the start of the book, which gives you a good first sense of the "spirit" of US immigration policy. You could come back to those discussions later, without the aggravation.

I do not recommend delving directly into any body of laws that is as extensive as immigration law, unless of course you have a few years to spare--but then again why waste that time? Think of books like this one as you would of maps: you don't want to have to start looking for California, street by street, starting in Washington DC. The point is this: an overview is always useful. This one should help you, if you use it properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best ready reference on Immigration
This book is not only very easy to carry around but is an awesome tool for students and practitioners. Right to the point and easy reading format, a must to deal with the most complicated area of our laws. It seems that it will be a good tool for a while since there's no change to immigration laws on sight in the near future.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT NUTSHELL
I would HIGHLY encourage anyone taking Immigration law to purchase this nutshell. It succintly covered all the topics of immigration law and trendously helped in understanding this evolving field of law.

Product Description
Received an Honorable Mention in the Communication and Cultural Studies category of the 2005 Professional/Scholarly Publishing Annual Awards Competition presented by the Association of American Publishers, Inc.

Finally, we are learning that simplicity equals sanity. We're rebelling against technology that's too complicated, DVD players with too many menus, and software accompanied by 75-megabyte "read me" manuals. The iPod's clean gadgetry has made simplicity hip. But sometimes we find ourselves caught up in the simplicity paradox: we want something that's simple and easy to use, but also does all the complex things we might ever want it to do. In The Laws of Simplicity, John Maeda offers ten laws for balancing simplicity and complexity in business, technology, and design—guidelines for needing less and actually getting more.

Maeda—a professor in MIT's Media Lab and a world-renowned graphic designer—explores the question of how we can redefine the notion of "improved" so that it doesn't always mean something more, something added on.

Maeda's first law of simplicity is "Reduce." It's not necessarily beneficial to add technology features just because we can. And the features that we do have must be organized (Law 2) in a sensible hierarchy so users aren't distracted by features and functions they don't need. But simplicity is not less just for the sake of less. Skip ahead to Law 9: "Failure: Accept the fact that some things can never be made simple." Maeda's concise guide to simplicity in the digital age shows us how this idea can be a cornerstone of organizations and their products—how it can drive both business and technology. We can learn to simplify without sacrificing comfort and meaning, and we can achieve the balance described in Law 10. This law, which Maeda calls "The One," tells us: "Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful." ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Homeopathic to the extreme
Do you know what homeopathy is? You dissolve sth in a glass of water, then add another glass of water, then 2 glasses of water, then 4, then 8, ... and after some number of repetitions you got nothing of what you put in there in the first place, just water. By the way, if it was a drug it should still work ... well, not quite.

The same story is with this book. There's no essence really there, just high-level general statements. And just like with homeopathy it will not work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quick and light, worth a read.
Definitely worth a read.Maeda's list of suggested books at the end is also very good.

4-0 out of 5 stars It changes your daily life in a way
Still in the middle of this book, and although Maeda's line of organizing his ideas throughout the book is not the GREATEST one, lessons themselves are easy and inspiring to understand and get some parts of your daily life somehow different... especially when you deal with such a huge mass of information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Simply don't read it
-The title is grand and but the content verges on filler anecdotes
-Maeda writes prosaically, meandering through numbered chapters.
-Where does Madea work?MIT, MIT, MIT, MIT.We get it.
-The acronyms are incredibly hard to remember.
-Why are there 10 rules instead of 11 or 3?

+ Thankfully, the book is short.
+ Tufte's "Envisioning Information" is the book you should read, if you haven't already, dealing with *this* subject thoughtfully and usefully.

-It feels like Maeda wanted to sink his design fangs into simplicity but while writing decided to save his teeth.

2-0 out of 5 stars "If you can't describe it simply, you can't use it simply."
I watched a show about design on Ovation TV and it featured this book. At first glance, the book seems engaging and interesting. As I read on I felt like I was in a work sales meeting with acronyms a plenty. Product Description
Law School Confidential is written for students about to embark on this three-year odyssey by students who have successfully survived. It demystifies the life-altering thrill ride that defines an American legal education by providing a comprehensive, blow-by-blow, chronological account of what to expect. It arms students with a thorough overview of the contemporary law school experience. This isn't the advice of graying professors or battle-scarred practitioners decades removed from law school. Miller has assembled a panel of recent graduates to act as "mentors", all of whom are perfectly positioned to shed light on what law school is like today. From taking the LSAT, to securing financial aid, to navigating the notorious first semester, to taking exams, to applying for summer internships, to getting on the law review, to tackling the bar and beyond...this book explains it all.

4-0 out of 5 stars law school book 2
very well done. Nicely laid out. Lots of good information. I think it is copyright last 5 of 6 years. Fairly up to do date. Good insite and some great hints on the first year... do's and don'ts ... I like that part....

If you do buy it, buy it used... i would not have paid full price.. However this was very informative for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY KINDLE VERSION!
The book itself seems perfectly ok. The 1 star is specifically for the Kindle version. It has a huge amount of OCR errors (that are also present in the apple ibook version, so it's a publisher issue). It makes the book almost unreadable in many places. There are some charts and forms that are messed up as well, but I expect that in a kindle version. Fix the errors and I would give it at least 3 stars. I have notified Amazon. For now stick with the paper copy.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Kindle Typo'sruined my experience.
This is a good book, but reading it on Kindle was far from enjoyable. It begins in the book's forward, the word "die" appears where the word "the" should be. I thought, that is okay, easy enough to deal with. However, as you get deeper into the book, the typo's become more cryptic and more frequent.I love my Kindle, but you are better off reading this in hardcopy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Compelling
I've only read the first few chapters because they're the only ones that apply to me so far. So far the advice is sound, there seems to be a lot of input from various people who have graduated from some of the top schools in the country. The writing is compelling and speaks directly to the reader in an informal manner. Probably a good guide to help someone wrap their head around the entire experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Saving Book
I wish I had read Dr. Gilmatin's book earlier in my career as a National Park Ranger.I felt that this book was written about me and what my family and I were experiencing due to my job.I was privileged to hear Dr. Gilmartin speak at a training course and immediately bought his book to better study his information and implement his recommendations for dealing with the emotional stress and ups and downs of law enforcement.I was so moved by the benefits of this book that as a supervisor with a dwindling budget, I still made it a priority to buy a copy of for each of the park rangers under by responsibility.I also encouraged them all to have their spouses or significant others read the book.Several thanked me and Dr. Gilmartin for his astute insight into our world.

Everyone working in or considering a job in law enforcement should read this book.It made an impact on my life and helped me to work more affectively and healthily to the end of my career.

It is only the aimless, worthless, unsuccessful ones who speak of killing time. The one who is killing time is destroying his opportunities, while the man who is successful is making his time live and making it useful. 1-0 out of 5 stars Theft of a valuable book.
This book is an excellent work which will benefit anyone.

However, Wilder Publication, which put out this copy, has engaged in copyright theft.

The book was published in 1939 as listed by the copyright office.

It was registered to DeVorss and Company which publishes his works.

The people who put out this edition have done such a sloppy job that they can't even spell the word 'attraction" correctly. See the cover as shown above. They spell it as "attracktion".

They even have the nerve to list it as copyrighted by them in 2009! Thus, they claim below, no one is permitted to even quote from it without their permission.

The DeVorss edition keeps all of the original paragraph numbering and other aspects of the original.
http://www.amazon.com/Working-Law-Raymond-Holliwell/dp/0875168086

This edition is in tiny type and hard to read. There are numerous typos. The book is filled with other errors.

The book deserves a wide readership but not from pirates who return nothing to the Estate of the author.

As an author whose material has now been stolen and given away in torrents on the net by pirates, I urge all of you to support the authors and their legal representatives.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The Universal Laws described in this book really do work and by studying them I was able to make dramatic improvements in the quality of my life. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in Law of Attraction titles, but especially to Christians who are trying to reconcile their belief in God and the Bible with the knowledge brought forth by the New Thought movement. I was introduced to it when I read "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne and since then I had been trying to figure out if and where God came into the story. I am delighted to say this book has all the answers. God uses specific Laws to run the universe and by following them, you can get the most out of your life. Read it, you won't regret.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gems and truth come in small packages
I'd give it more stars if I could.

I've read, studied and practiced Law of Attraction for 30+ years. If I had to recommend just ONE book _Working With the Law_ would be it. Don't let it's slim size fool you into passing it by! Even with the typos it is a gem of clarity.

Put this book into practice and you'll attract whatever you desire.

5-0 out of 5 stars Edited? No. Well written and easy to read? Yes!
If you just can't get past the several (not many, just several) typos in the book, then you'd be better off buying a much more expensive, yet well-edited and excellent book by Jerry and Esther Hicks. However, if you're like me and can look past the small flaws here and there, this will be a very easy and satisfying source of marvelous information for you! This is one of the few books in my library of research that I have read over and over! Raymond Holliwell speaks plainly and clearly about how the Universe works and his methods are tried and true by myself, so I can vouch for his information.

What I enjoy most is the fact that he doesn't beat the same drum repeatedly through the book. He breaks down the information so it's easily read and has all the information you'll ever want for living inside of 200 pages! It's a small book and for myself personally, I've written notes and thoughts in the margins and back. I plan to keep this book handy, because just reading his words gives you the vibration that makes you happy. It brings you back to a more grounded place, reading the information he details.

I give this one Five Stars because it is simple, describes the Universal Laws well and doesn't fatten the book up with overblown stories and unnecessary "stuff". ... Read more

Product Description

The Washington Post’s must-read guide to the health care overhaul

What now? Despite the rancorous, divisive, year-long debate in Washington, many Americans still don’t understand what the historic overhaul of the health care system will—or won’t—mean. In Landmark, the national reporting staff of The Washington Post pierces through the confusion, examining the new law’s likely impact on us all: our families, doctors, hospitals, health care providers, insurers, and other parts of a health care system that has grown to occupy one-sixth of the U.S. economy.

Landmark’s behind-the-scenes narrative reveals how just how close the law came to defeat, as well as the compromises and deals that President Obama and his Democratic majority in Congress made in achieving what has eluded their predecessors for the past seventy-five years: A legislative package that expands and transforms American health care coverage.

Landmark is an invaluable resource for anyone eager to understand the changes coming our way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Landmark review
Its a well written and informative book about the new health reform policy, however quite political-as expected- since it is difficult to divorce politics from this policy but this makes you yearn for the other side of the story. On the whole, a very good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Medicare reinforced - The Dems have done it again!
If you really want to know what this law will do for you, dispense with the lies from the other side, and learn the truth. All of the other great social programs for the less fortunate faced the same wrath from the right. The rich really don't care, health care is of no concern to them. They just pay cash.

Landmark: The Inside Story of America's New Health Care Law and What It Means for Us All (Publicaffairs Reports)

The book is well written and very easy to understand helping to clarify specific portions of the new Health Care Reform Law through the analysis of several Washington Post reporters. What is exceptional is that it contains the law itself so that anyone can read and see EXACTLY what this law does and does not do.With all the hype from so many sides this book and the actual law is a must read to understanding all elements of this reform. It is truly a "Landmark".I highly recommend it.I purchased this book through Amazon.com.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not an inside story
I am a professor, looking for a case-study book on major legislative change, similar to Showdown at Gucci Gulch, or The Bill.Unfortunately, this book is not in that category. It has a couple short chapters describing the major milestones in the legislative battle, many chapters describing the tenets of health care reform (policy analysis style), and then a summary of the legislation itself. This is fine, in of itself, but it is certainly not "an inside story." the way that Showdown or The Bill was.Its also more policy analysis oriented than Policy Process oriented. It would make a good primer for an analysis of the health care reform bill.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rehash, not coordinated
This book is just a rehash of content that was in the paper and provides no depth. Also, the articles were not coordinated and in places material is repeated multiple times. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nearly New?!?!
This textbook was a required text for a grad. class.I understand that a textbook should be "nearly new" after being used by an owner, however, this textbook's spine was spliting in half and every chapter was heavily highlighted.I would have thought I would have paid half the price, but not quite!

Constitutional Law: Individual Rights, one work from a two-volume set, is a problem-oriented guide to the principle doctrines of constitutional law as covered in the typical course. This straightforward text walks the student through the constitutional provisions that protect individual rights: Takings and Contracts clauses, Due Process, Freedoms of Speech and Religion, and Equal Protection.

Designed to encourage students to think about the larger issues of constitutional law with depth and perception, this clear and informal text:
- Utilizes the unique, time-tested E and E pedagogy that combines textual material with well-written and comprehensive examples, explanations, and questions to test students' comprehension of the materials and provide practice in applying legal principles to fact patterns. - Parallels the major casebooks in its organization and will complement any constitutional law casebook;

5-0 out of 5 stars Great supplemental study aid
I'm a big fan of the Law in a Flash series. These cards make for a great supplemental study aid. The best feature, in my opinion, is the "scenario" questions. These are like mini-fact patterns designed to get you thinking about one particular issue. I've found these to help get my mind around particular topics in a format conducive to an essay style exam (which all of my instructors use). I do wish that the cards had some more "concept w/definition" cards (where one side gives a word, concept, or issue, and the answer side has a rote definition), but it's not a major issue. Unlike some of the other subjects in the Law in a Flash series, this one on Evidence isn't as repetitive. As such, the box actually seems a little empty (worked out fine for me, since I filled up part of that empty space with my own flash cards). That's not to say that they skimped on the material, though--everything is covered, and done well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flashcards
The flashcards are a great way to review the material covered in class both before and after the material has been presented.Using the flashcards helps lessen the time studying for finals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Evidence
IF your teacher can't teach the class--this will come through in a clutch--use it with EZ Rules of Evidence as well as Examples and Explanations!

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Evidence Class
I only wish I had purchased these earlier in the semester instead of waiting until 2 weeks before the final exam.I look forward to using these to study for the bar exam.

Nine years after Mibs's Savvy journey, her cousin Ledge has just turned thirteen . . .

But Ledger Kale's savvy is a total dud--all he does is make little things fall apart. So his parents decide it's safe to head to Wyoming, where it's soon revealed that Ledge's savvy is much more powerful than anyone thought. Worse, his savvy disaster has an outside witness: Sarah Jane Cabot, reporter wannabe and daughter of the local banker. Just like that, Ledge's beloved normal life is over. Now he has to keep Sarah from turning family secrets into headlines, stop her father from foreclosing on Uncle Autry's ranch, and scumble his savvy into control so that, someday, he can go home.

Starring a cast both fresh and familiar, Scumble brilliantly melds Ingrid Law's signature heart and humor with the legendary Wild West.

3-0 out of 5 stars Liked Savvy better . . .
My daughters and I loved Savvy and were excited about Law's new book Scumble. I had a hard time sticking this with this one though. I found it hard to empathize with the main character, Ledge. His poor me, everything I do is wrong, everybody hates me act that went on chapter after chapter felt tedious after a while. The book picked up toward the end and had an exciting conclusion, but I wish the road to get there had been a little more compelling.

5-0 out of 5 stars incredible, and bursting with energy, humor, imagination and lots of fun and surprises.
A "savvy" is an extraordinary, unique, out-of-this-world, unbelievable talent that goes beyond a person's wildest imagination --- almost like a superpower. Receiving a savvy on one's 13th birthday is something that runs in certain families. Mibs Beaumont experienced quite an adventure when her savvy appeared. She can hear a person's thoughts if they have any type of writing on their skin, from a tattoo to an ink smudge. Nine years have passed since Mibs survived her 13th, and now it is her cousin's turn.

Ledger Kale has high hopes for his upcoming 13th birthday and the discovery of his savvy. His dad is positive that Ledge will achieve massive speed, which would make winning their upcoming father/son half-marathon a definite. And Ledge is all for making his dad proud. But savvys rarely satisfy expectations, and Ledge couldn't be more disappointed when he learns that his savvy is the ability to shatter things into pieces. It certainly adds a challenge to their cross-country trip from Indiana to Wyoming for a family wedding when his savvy causes the muffler to fall off the car and a tire to drop off and bounce down the highway.

Ledge is so frustrated and extremely nervous with his lack of control; the savvy creeps up on him and strikes like a lightning storm. Most of the family understands that learning control over one's savvy takes time, even years. Just ask Rocket Beaumont, who has been living at the Wyoming family ranch for a long time with his savvy for conducting his own electricity; Rocket doesn't trust himself in society, so he works on the secluded ranch. But when Ledge accidentally breaks apart the big barn housing the wedding reception, everyone agrees that it would be best if Ledge stays in Wyoming for a bit to adjust to his new savvy.

Ledge is completely discouraged when his parents leave him at the ranch for the summer, but he isn't alone. He has an uncle, grandfather, younger sister and various cousins to offer advice, sometimes welcomed and other times not. Among his western adventures, he rediscovers an old love of art and building things, forms a strong friendship with Rocket, and even begins to appreciate his savvy. Ledge attempts to survive all of this, along with trying to hide his family secret from an inquisitive 13-year-old reporter named Sarah Jane, whose grouchy father is determined to foreclose on the entire town, including the family ranch. Turning 13 can definitely be a challenge!

Ingrid Law is the genius behind the incredible Savvy stories. Her first novel, SAVVY, not only amazed readers with its spark, but it also won the Newberry Honor Award in 2009. Her companion novel, SCUMBLE, is just as incredible, and bursting with energy, humor, imagination and lots of fun and surprises. Ledge may attract more males to the Savvy fan base, but female readers will love it, too. Law does a wonderful job catching readers up on what's happening without boring repetition. She writes with an openness and honesty that really invite the readers to become involved with the colorful characters and feel their emotions. She also utilizes lots of relatable descriptions touching all of the senses, which brings the background to life and slides in some awesome alliteration that tickles the tongue. In addition, she skillfully weaves in some words of wisdom, like finding the courage to be yourself, facing one's fears, and thinking through choices. SCUMBLE is so much fun. Save some room on the bookshelf for this up-and-coming author.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Companion Book That Doesn't Live Up to the Original
I loved Savvy.

I wish Ms. Law had left it alone; it was perfect as a stand alone.

Instead, a wonderful book has fallen into the unfortunate trend of "companion", sequel or series, and the results are a disappointment. The originality has worn off, and the book is stuffed with so many characters they are difficult to keep track of. The characters aren't as well-developed, and I found I didn't care about them at all.

I won't be reading any future Savvy books.

4-0 out of 5 stars PAGES MISSING - check your copy!!
My daughter loved Savvy and was looking forward to Scumble, so I pre-ordered.After she'd had it for a day or two, she came back and told me there were duplicate pages and other pages missing. Sure enough, our copy was defective. I requested a replacement from Amazon. Well, the new copy just came and - yes, exactly the same defect as the first one.(You might think Amazon would actually *check* their inventory after having books returned for this reason, BUT NO...)

So, it does seem like a very good book, but I think I'll just return my TWO copies (Amazon-ordered UPS pickup still hasn't happened) for a refund, and wait for some belated quality control to occur before trying again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think we know what Ingrid Law's Savvy is....
This author must have a Savvy for writing great children's books, as once again she offers up a great story that combines all the elements of realistic fiction with a dab of fantasy all wrapped up in a huge amount of heart. I loved Savvy and this is an excellent companion, although they both do well as stand alone works. Once again, Law has created a character that every youngster age 9 to 14 can easily relate to. Ledger has been waiting a long time to get his Savvy, and on his 13th birthday he is fully expecting something terrific. Above all, he doesn't want to disappoint his father, who dreams of Ledge becoming the world's fastest runner. Well, things don't really work out that way, and Ledge finds himself spending the summer at his uncle's farm trying to learn how to "scumble" this strange new power. Ledge's search for balance in his life makes for a truly unique coming of age story.

This book has tons of humor and also some gut wrenching moments as Ledge figures out how to literally put himself back together, help save his Uncle's farm, and say goodbye to a much beloved grandfather. This is not a book that relies on lots of action, although there is some to be had. What keeps these pages turning are all the wonderful characters and the odd situations in which Ledge keeps finding himself. This is a solid recommend for elementary and middle school readers who like their stories told with a hint of whimsy, a lot of fun, and maybe even a tear or two.

Product Description

The names change, but the game remains the same.

The pimp has reached nearly mythical status. We are fascinated by the question of how aguy from the ghetto with no startup capital and no credit -- nothing but the words out of his mouth -- comes not only to have a stable of sexy women who consider him "their man," but to drive a Rolls, sport diamonds, and wear custom suits and alligator shoes from Italy.

His secret is to follow the "unwritten rules of the game" -- a set of regulations handed down orally from older, wiser macks -- which give him superhuman powers of charm, psychological manipulation, and persuasion.

In Pimpology, star of the documentaries Pimps Up, Ho's Down and American Pimp and Annual Players Ball Mack of the Year winner Ken Ivy pulls a square's coat on the unwritten rules that took him from the ghetto streets to the executive suites. Ken's lessons will serve any person in any interaction: Whether at work, in relationships, or among friends, somebody's got to be on top. To be the one with the upper hand, you've got to have good game, and good game starts with knowing the rules.

If you want the money, power, and respect you dream of, you can't just "pimp your ride," you need to pimp your whole life. And unless you've seen Ray Charles leading Stevie Wonder somewhere, you need Ken's guidelines to do it. They'll reach out and touch you like AT&T and bring good things to life like GE. Then you can be the boss with the hot sauce who gets it all like Monty Hall. ... Read more

This was an absolutely great book. It's full of game, and not just one side. It has the ins and outs of both sides of it and If you don't know it will teach. It also makes references to doing something else with your life. That's the best part of this book it doesn't want you to stay in this life but to do something positive with it. This is by far the best book that I've ever read!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!!!!!
If you think of pimping as a low down way to live life then I understand. However, if you let that thinking sway you from not buying this book then you will miss out on one of the best reads ever! The mentality exists whether you choose to accept it or not. It is better to have the knowledge and be aware than to go on as most of society does being pimped unknowingly!

This is a good tool to get your ASD child to look at their behavior from someone else's point of view. The scale is pretty basic and thus is easier to apply to a wide variety of behaviors. It helps also because the notion that some behaviors are very serious is coming from a 'book' and not from 'mom or dad'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This was a fabulous tool for working with our child who suddenly had problems with sexually inappropriate conduct in Middle School. The examples used were very similar to the scenarios which we experienced.Brief and to the point with practical application.

5-0 out of 5 stars helpful, useful and definitely worth trying
I have a 19 year old son on the autism spectrum. It is really difficult to find materials out there to work with the challenges autistic individuals face in adulthood. This little book is easy to use and can be used as a tool to help them navigate in a world they see very differently from the rest of us. We need more resources like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars It impressed my skeptical teen
My 15 year old is very resistant to books about his Aspergers but he liked this one.He clearly found it helpful, disappearing into his room, reading it completely and then asking me to order some of the items in the bibliography (another first). So kudos to the author.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Five is Against the Law!
I thought the workbook was good, but the parts where there's a "map" of what to do (or not to do) was slightly confusing. However, it is good for men on the autistic spectrum to understand what is OK and what isn't. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a TERRIBLE book
I have never been compelled to write a review for anything on amazon before, and I've bought dozens if not hundreds of items here. But I feel compelled to write one for this book.

I am a 1L law student studying for my 2nd semester's exams. I have used other E&E's for many other classes and found them very helpful and clear - in short, excellent summaries of the material.

However, this book is TERRIBLE. I can not stress this enough. It is very, very unclear, very very INCOMPLETE, filled with useless information, neglecting of important information, and just very unhelpful. It does a terrible job.

Read the other reviews and stay away from this. There have got to be much better study guides out there...

5-0 out of 5 stars A++ would highly recommend!
Book brand new, perfect condition. Took a little bit longer than expected to receive, but overall great experience. Would definitely buy from seller again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
The E&E series is very helpful in prepping for exams. The summaries and charts make great aids in outlining. Debating the hypos on my own and with my study group really helped. Most exams are essay responses to hypotheticals, so the book prepares you well.

2-0 out of 5 stars E&E lover--hated it
I own all of the E&Es from the classes I have taken so far and find them all useful, except this one.

I felt like this author tried too hard to prove how tricky and smart he was.A lot of the examples gave "gotcha!" explanations that most professors would never require students to know.I would have preferred questions that required me to go through the elements in a more normal way and look for broader problems in the fact patterns, not weird exceptions.

Overall, this book made me paranoid looking for hidden issues that weren't in my professor's problems.Luckily I realized this before my final and was able to find other practice problems/answers that actually helped me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great study aid
I found Examples and Explanations a great supplement. It clearly explained key concepts and ideas. My one complaint is that the actual "examples and explanations" were rather abstract and I was disappointed with the lack of questions that specifically dealt with applying the Model Penal Code. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Timely delivery
I needed books for college and did not have very long to wait. I received my books ordered in a timely manner. I had never ordered anything online and was not sure about how secure this would be but it was totally worth. After I had compared prices with other ways to purchase I realized I found the best deal. I would not hesitate to order books or products this way again if I need anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best resource out there
Whether your are an entrepreneur, VC or lawyer, THIS is the book that you must read. It's really everything that you need to navigate the entire startup ecosystem.I've been in the industry for over a decade and I still use it as a reference and encourage both entrepreneurs and lawyers to read alike.I also think it's a great resource for VCs sitting on boards to make sure they are complying with all the latest and greatest regulations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise yet fully inclusive, up-to-date
Includes all important areas of law for the entrepreneur. Was most helpful for our incorporation. Good, short, to-the-point, comparisons of S-corp, C-corp, LLC, partnership, and sole proprietorship.Still covered all issues and is updated to late 2007. This is important because the tax-code changes frequently (last major update was in 2003), and small changes to corporate structure and court pratices happen every year.Better than "Structuring Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Entrepreneurial Transactions."Better than "Starting Your Own Business" by Stephen C. Harper.Better than searching for piecemeal information on websites like news.YCombinator.

Other important areas covered are Contracts & Lease, Operational Liability, and Intellectual Property.I will be using this book heavily for those areas as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, just not for me.
This book goes into great detail about all aspects of Business Law. Anyone who currently owns a business or is thinking about opening a business needs to read this book, or at least have it near by as a reference guide.

However, the book is certainly aimed at Corporate USA and those who are looking to start up a BIG business. If you are looking to open or currently own a Small Business, then there are better books on the market that are tailored more to your needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent guide
A book that every entrepreneur should read.Read it before you start the company, it will help you a lot. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
The first two editions of the best-selling Law 101 provided readers with a vividly written and indispensable portrait of our nation's legal system. Now, in this third edition, Jay M. Feinman offers a fully updated survey of American law that incorporates fresh material on 2009 Supreme Court cases, the legal response to the war on terror (including the Guantanamo detainees and electronic surveillance), and to the latest developments in Internet law.

In a book brimming with legal puzzles, interesting anecdotes, and thought-provoking questions, Jay M. Feinman's clear introduction to the law provides us with a solid understanding of the American legal tradition and covers the main subjects taught in the first year of law school. Readers are introduced to every aspect of the legal system, from constitutional law and the litigation process to tort law, contract law, property law, and criminal law. Feinman illuminates each discussion with many intriguing, outrageous, and infamous cases, from the scalding coffee case that cost McDonald's half a million dollars, to the sensational murder trial in Victorian London that led to the legal definition of insanity, to the epochal decision in Marbury v. Madison that gave the Supreme Court the power to declare state and federal law unconstitutional. He broadens the reader's legal vocabulary, clarifying the meaning of everything from "due process" and "equal protection" in constitutional law to the distinction between "murder" and "manslaughter" in criminal law. Perhaps most important, we learn that though the law is voluminous and complex, it is accessible to all.

Everyone who wants a better grasp of current legal issues--from students contemplating law school, to journalists covering the legislature or the courts, to fans of Court TV--will find here a wonderful source of information: a complete, clear, and colorful map of the American legal system. ...
