Product Description
Pioneering New Serials Frontiers: From Petroglyphs to Cyberserials represents the proceedings from the North American Serials Interest Group's annual conference held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. From librarians, publishers, vendors, and scholars, this collection provides many perspectives on the issues and problems facing everyone involved in producing, maintaining, and using journal literature. You will gain insight, ideas, and some practical skills for dealing with the changing world of serials.

Pioneering New Serials Frontiers includes presentations from the conference's plenary sessions, the discussions from concurrent sessions, and the summary reports of each of the preconferences and workshops. Just as the attendees did, you'll have the opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge of standards for Electronic Data Exchange and to develop new skills as risktakers. You'll also learn the answers to these questions:

  • How do you manage the ever-growing and increasingly complex arena of electronic serials?
  • What does the serialist need to know about copyright issues and electronic product licensing?
  • How does one evaluate and select Internet resources--and once selected, how are they cataloged and maintained?
  • What is the role of the paper-based journal . . . from a publisher's perspective?
  • How is electronic publishing making inroads in scholarly publishing?
  • How should we bridge the gap between the Internet and libraries?
  • What's the best way to educate and retrain serialists for change?

Whether you were in attendance at this conference or not, Pioneering New Serials Frontiers is the resource that recaps all that transpired. From technical service concerns and customer relations to management strategies and working with the Web, the variety of topics covered in this book helps confirm that today's serialist must contend with and manage new formats, new standards, and new technologies.

Product Description
Set in the Andean highlands of modern-day Peru, the book follows Paul Hemming, an American physicist and poet, as he grapples with a failing marriage and a failed career. Hemming is traveling with his wife, Sally, a successful botanist, who is working with the Peruvian government to find alternative crops to the coca grown by Peruvian farmers. Like Paul Hemming, Sally feels increasingly alienated from her spouse and she is attracted to David Cronin, an expatriate American who makes his living guiding tourists through the ruins of the Inca empire. Cronin is a mysterious man. He may or may not have links with the Sendero Luminosa guerillas, who are waging a war against the Peruvian government in the Andean highlands. Arturo Sanchez, a Peruvian military officer, keeps close watch on Cronin as he moves among the Inca ruins and he is also monitoring the movement and activities of David and Sally Hemming. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars First novel
I found this first novel by Don Alloway to be extremely believable and insightful. Not only are we reading a "story", but learning Peruvian history and culture.I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Alloway's first novel-highly recommend it-and look forward to more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Double Play, Double Whammy
An excellent book by a first-time author, which succeeds on many levels. It provides insight into the disintegration of a modern day marriage amid the background of a fascinating place in South America -- Machu Pichu. It weaves thismodern day story with a 400 year old story set in the Inca world. How the two stories intertwine shows the imagination of the author and keeps the reader engrossed from the first page to the last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Petroglyph
I have just read a book titled "Petroglyph" by Don Alloway.I was very impressed with his style of writing and historical knowledge of Peru. His modern day characters come alive in a place rich with the memories of a fallen Inca Empire. His writing is very well thought out and it would be an asset to anyone who enjoys reading.I highly recommend this book to your readers.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book you can't put down.
I just finished reading "Petroglyph" by Don Alloway and found this book to be wonderful from start to finish. You can tell when an author puts his heart and soul into a book.I will be looking forward to reading more books by Don Alloway and I hope your readers find this book as great as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Petroglyph, a must read
I recently read Don Alloway's new book "Petroglyph" and was very impressed.
Mr Alloway's ability to bridge the past with the present is very dynamic.
I was especially interested in the historical aspect, learning how the conquistidors were able to destroy a truly beautiful and civilized people. Mr. Alloway's description of the Inca ruins made me want to get on a plane and visit this country, which most Americans know little about.
The romantic story line was very today, as more of us feel our mid life crisis. The ending had a touch of old fashioned romanticism, something badly missing today.

I highly recommend Petroglyph to your readers. ... Read more
