The man's guide to anything and everything in the infertility universe

Greg Wolfe went through four cycles of IVF on his rocky journey to fatherhood—and now, with profound sympathy and side-splitting humor, he lays it all out for guys on similar baby-making quests. How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup is not your typical nuts and bolts (no pun intended) medical guide but a helpful handbook designed specifically with the male partner in mind, with answers to his most pressing questions about the infertility process, including:

  • Why are boxers better than briefs?
  • How can hamsters help determine what's wrong with my sperm?
  • My wife's already moody enough—why am I injecting her with even more hormones?
  • Is it necessary for me to fill the whole cup at the fertility clinic?

From understanding a woman's cycle to "porn etiquette" at the clinic, How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup has everything a man needs to know to get the job done!

5-0 out of 5 stars A slick book, on a slippery subject!
I totally hijacked my husband's e-mail to write this review. This clever book was a journey within a helpful guide that I didn't want to leave on the nightstand for the next day. It was so funny, I was laughing out loud throughout the book and my husband was constantly asking me what could possibly be so funny about fertility. Apparently, a tremendous amount of ha-ha funny mixed with familiar funny that was perfect. The writer is so good at giving supportive information on a tough process while also telling a wonderful personal story from his own guy brain. I mean the chapter names alone make it worth reading. This is a must guide for the guy in your life and he will actually enjoy it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing: Should be in every eye department
This book is amazingly good. It's basically an updated improved version of Jeff's previous prerequisites book but so much better now especially with the colour and DVD. It's now the primary textbook of choice for all our trainees and fellows passing through our oculoplastic service. It's very much a personal tutorial and of course there are lots of ways to skin a cat, etc. Others criticise it by citing that it doesn't present a fully comprehensive catalogue of every operation technique for a particular problem but put it this way....every trainee who's used it has become a very competent surgeon using standard recognised techniques which the majority of oculoplastic surgeons would agree with. I now recommend this, Richard Collin's systematic eyelid surgery as the first 2 books to buy for our fellows....

Product Description

The Safe and Sane Guide to Teenage Plastic Surgery, by Dr. Frederick N. Lukash, is the only complete guide to this ever-expanding phenomenon. Written by the American Society of Plastic Surgery‘s acknowledged expert and official media spokesperson on pediatric and adolescent plastic surgery, this book answers those tough questions parents of potential teenage plastic surgery candidates have: Will surgery increase their child’s self-esteem and help them fit in better? Or is it a dangerously easy solution to deeper issues? When is surgery right, and when is it not?

Interviewed in The New York Times and featured on Discovery Health among many other media outlets, Lukash guides families through every step of the process, from finding the perfect-fit doctor and applying for medical insurance to surgery and finally to recovery and a changed life. A virtual, free consultation with a renowned expert in the field, the book doesn’t just offer easy solutions to teen’s body-image problems but helps parents understand the emotional, psychological and social dilemmas involved.

Complete with action plans, real-life stories and pictures, The Safe and Sane Guide to Teenage Plastic Surgery offers advice on what can, can’t and shouldn’t be done—and on how to spot the doctors who will exploit a teen’s fragile sense of self-esteem as well as his or her parent’s pocketbook. Most important, Lukash provides a useful red light/yellow light/green light guide for considering teen plastic surgery.

Each chapter was developed by experts in the field with a wide breadth of information dealing with all welding aspects including materials, process phenomenology, equipment, and joint design. The authors also included many application examples to assist engineers in considering the materials and geometries that were successfully used for a specific process. 1-0 out of 5 stars Good door stop
I've been trying to study from this book for the past year and have found it poorly indexed, with minimal useful information for the early plastic surgery trainee compared to other sources availible which are far more indepth relevant and cheap. The online material is frustrating and is limited to only 2 computers. Not useful enough to justify the cost at my early level of training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
It is definitely the best Plastic Surgery text ever and Amazon is great regarding deliveries.I always use their service and am very pleased.

2-0 out of 5 stars Let the buyer beware
I am a Plastic Surgeon and thus very interested in the subject matter. The The Text is actually very good but you will be cheated with the online access. 1. access is slow. Elsevier has not fixed this problem since it was brought to their attention last summer. 2. There is a floating copyright notice that moves over the illustrations. This is incredibly annoying and distracting. 3. You will only be allowed to access the Online Edition from two different computers. What good is that if you work in six or seven different locations. 4. You will not be allowed to export any illustrations for use in teaching etc.
The content is good but the way the Online Edition has been managed borders on fraud!

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate plastic surgery reference
This 8 volume plastic surgery treatise, taken as a single reference, is the largest medical book in the history of medical documentation. This is the fourth version of this series started by John Marquis Converse for the first two editions (1964, 1977), continued by Joseph G. McCarthy (1990), and now edited by Stephen J. Mathes (2005). The vast spectrum of medical diseases treated by plastic surgeons are covered in 219 chapters broken down into 8 logical reference books: (1) General Principles, (2, 3) Head and Neck, Parts 1 and 2, (4) Pediatric Plastic Surgery, (5) Tumors of the Head, Neck, and Skin, (6) Trunk and Lower Extremity, and (7, 8) The Hand and Upper Limb, Parts 1 and 2. Illustrated with thousands of pictures and drawings, the human maladies and conditions treated by plastic surgeons are beautifully presented for educational edification. This is a must reference for possibly the next 10-15 years for current and in-training plastic surgeons. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Jack is a confessed boob connoisseur.According to an opening statement, he has seen exactly four real naked human breasts and knows 138 words for them. With a start like that, one might think this book is inappropriate or at least in very poor taste. That could not be more wrong.

Although Jack is a normal, red-blooded male when it comes to the female body, he has his principles.Raised by two parents who have vast amounts of experience protesting causes, Jack never thought he would carry a protest sign of his own. That changes when his best friend announces that she is having breast augmentation surgery.

Leah's mother is one of those vain women addicted to plastic surgery.Leah has never shown any interest in changing her physical appearance, but she tells Jack that her mother is giving her breast implants for her 16th birthday.

Immediately concerned for his friend's safety, Jack fires up the Internet. The facts he uncovers scare him even more. There are doctors out there disregarding the standard of not doing unnecessary surgery on adolescents, and that gets Jack making a picket sign and hitting the pavement outside Leah's doctor's office.

PLASTIC will grab the attention of readers of all backgrounds. The focus is on body image and its importance in teenage society.Through her book, author Sarah N. Harvey encourages teens to be patient and let time dictate their happiness and comfort with personal body issues.Overall, PLASTIC is a fast read with a worthwhile message.

Reviewed by:Sally Kruger, aka "Readingjunky"

4-0 out of 5 stars quick, enjoyable read
Harvey spins a tight yarn, with only enough characters and settings to make the plot work. This is a quick read, aimed at struggling or reluctant readers, but one I think could be appreciated by middle and especially high school students generally.

The characters, especially 15-year old Jack, his classmate Leah, and Jack's parents, are complex enough to be believable and likable. Minor characters play key roles in the story without dragging it down or being unbelievable. I would have liked to read more about Jack's big brother Mike, but Harvey reveals a lot in few words.

In contrast to many high-low books, Orca Soundings titles do contain a lot of challenging vocabulary, but the interest level, book length, and focused plots mitigate that. I'd recommend this for teens 12 years and up capable of reading at about a fourth grade level and up.

Note (and SPOILER ALERT)...

If you're uncomfortable with or feel your students should not be exposed to language describing private body parts, you might prefer to avoid this book. However, as most teens are thinking about such things, and since Harvey's book has so many great qualities about it, you might want to let yourself (or your students) be a tiny bit uncomfortable as the price for a good read. It's certainly less graphic than Ordinary People or Catcher in the Rye, which I read in high school, and which are still on recommended reading lists. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good!! a comparison
I bought this and also the booklet "fun with dinosaur stencils" by a.g. smith

if I had to pick one out of the two I would pick "fun with dinosaurs" because I liked the outlines much better, though if you want a good pterodactyl the laser-cut plastic stencils has one while a.g. smith's book does not include this dinosaur!

I wasn't happy with eitherstencil set's T. Rex

the laser-cut plastic stencils include 16 dinosaurs along with some palm trees while "fun with dinosaurs" has just 6 dinosaurs: diplodocus, stegasaurus, tyrannosaurus, triceratops, dimetrodon, and rhamphorhynchus.

the laser-cut plastic stencils don't specify names right on the stencils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and Cute
These stencils are cute and very sturdy.Basically the cover you see is the front of a folder.A large envelope is glued inside the folder, which contains 3 8x10 sheets of platic stencils. They are not hard plastic, but flexible. They can stand up to repeated use by a 4 year-old and six year-old.
The designs are great. ... Read more

Product Description
Deluxe Then and Now Bible Map Book includes full-color Bible maps with clear-plastic overlays that show modern cities and countries. This is the deluxe version of the #1 bestselling Bible Atlas in the U.S. in 2007. It includes twice as many pages as the original version, plus a CD-ROM of all the maps. The bestselling Deluxe Then and Now Bible Map Book brings new relevance to your studies and teaching, and to compare Bible times and modern-day maps. Book measures 11.25" x 9.5" x 1". Special hard cover hides spiral binding. Looks great on a bookshelf and opens flat for ease of use and for photocopying. Copies cannot be sold.

Want to make your Bible studies and teachings more interesting? You can with Deluxe Now and Then Bible Maps. The atlas presents "Then and Now" maps for five different eras of Bible history, including:

  • The Beginnings to the Exodus
  • The Conquest of the Promised Land to the United Kingdom
  • The Divided Kingdom to the Persian Empire
  • The Life of Jesus
  • The Spread of Christianity
Easily compare Bible times with modern day times. Tell Bible stories and lead studies while presenting today s geography. Here are some examples:
  • Daniel was taken as POW to Iraq (where the ruins of Babylon are today south of Baghdad) and lived there the rest of his life
  • The ruins of Nineveh are in Northern Iraq near Mosul in Kurdish areas
Deluxe Then and Now Bible Maps uses larger, easier-to-read type than most Bible atlases. The book is full-color and includes the following Bible maps and clear-plastic overlays that display today's cities and countries over Bible-time maps. Pastors will want a copy of this resource for themselves and several throughout the church as a ministry resource.

The maps and overlays included:

  • The Middle East during Old Testament Times
  • Clear Overlay of modern-day Middle East
  • Map of the Assyrian Empire at three different time periods
  • Clear Overlay of same areas with modern-day countries
  • The Holy Land during the time of the Old Testament (12 Tribes)
  • Clear Overlay of modern-day Israel and surrounding countries

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much for the money
I purchased this atlas at my wife's request.I have a different source, The Holman Bible Atlas, and for the same price I find it much more complete and informative. The "Then and Now Bible Maps" does have several overlays comparing current and past country boundaries, but for the money, the Holman is much, much better. Also, the CD ROM coming with the atlas has no instructions, and no real keys as to how to use it.Overall, would not recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book
This was very bright and clean and well worth the money to understand all about Israel, now and than. Highly recommend it to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars book ofbible maps with dvd
excellent book to accompany bible study.
Has ancient maps with modern clear overlay--very helpful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced
I struggled over which book of maps to buy for quite a while. I am disappointed in this book and I think even here on Amazon it is grossly overpriced.
There aren't all that many pages in it and you can get just about all the maps in the Rose Publishing Co. fold out map for $3.99.
Had I seen this in a store I would never have chosen this book nor paid so much for it. It has a childish overall appearance and I find it difficult to focus on. It is spiral bound but the pages are not removeable.
I don't recommend this. I'm not finding it anymore helpful than maps at the back of my Bibles.

Someone has a used copy for sale on amazon for $999. That person is a moron.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ummm,
This second volume of Baker's run isn't quite as powerful as the first, but that means it is still well worth your time and hard-earned cash. All of the things you love, like awesome sight gags, sweet art, jovial writing, and crazy plots are still here in this volume, and you should probably even hunt down the remaining issues of the run after you finish this, as they are not collected. ...
