Just a vocabulary list.
I was very surprised when I got this book. I was expecting some sort of outline of each chapter with important points and concepts, but it was far from that. This book is really just a list of vocabulary words and definitions from each chapter. There is no explanation of concepts whatsoever. Some things never change
Paul J. Curran rescued me from the remote sensing text chosen by my professor. I spent hours trying to understand certain principles, having no background in energy, reflectance, wave lengths, or any of the concepts necessary to understand how remote sensing works. Curran's book is direct, the index is helpful, and the diagrams make sense. With this supplement, my understanding was greatly enhanced.

Some things never change. Light and energy still do what they've always done, and no "new" information about how they act has been introduced since this book was written. There may be a few new satellites relaying information, but I was interested in the "principles."

Look elsewhere
I got this book and I ahve to say it is absolutely aweful.

He basically lists a few formulas without any rigor, gives an extremely brief description of different types of lasers and such, and spends way too much time on a brief history of lidar which is again not very good.

The entire book, which is already small for a book falsely boasting a strong foundation from the bottom up in lidar, is double spaced and full of typos.It looks like some failed PhD student's thesis.

The book Elastic Lidar is far better and does exactly what this book claims to attempt. ... Read more

As with most computer related books, the previous book of the same title went out of date and this second edition was required to correctly report on the changes that have occurred in the industry. This edition reflects the current state of the art.

Geographical Information Systems are basically visually oriented analytical tools that allow for the computer presentation and modification of graphical information. As a result, this book discusses the basic concepts of remote sensing using cameras, satellites, radar and other sources. There is then a detailed description of the kinds of processing that can be conducted on these data to produce the needed information.
