5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for EMT's to be
This book shows you step by step on how to perform the duties of an EMT. From the legal issues, to the parts of the body, to patient assessment, to death, this book covers all the necessary topics of what EMT's will do on a regular basis. No matter how much training an EMT will get, they will not be prepared for every situation they encounter, but this book is a good tool to gain the knowledge on how to deal with most emergenices. It explains in detail and shows helpful pictures of things that are needed for one to know for the EMT course. Also there are questions at the end of each chapter to test you on the material you just read. I highly recommended this book for anyone who plans to become an EMT or just wants to learn about emergency patient care.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know to be an EMT-B
It has many illustrations, in depth anatomy coverage. However, sometimes there's critical scenarios that are past over very quickly, and you might not think it's important. Also, there should be some NREMT sample questions at the end of each question.

4-0 out of 5 stars The EMT book that could
So the book came in good condition. It works for me and is great for learning from. Might I mention it is a text book so if your looking at buying it thenyou probly have to buy it anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but short of goal...
This book and DVD is probably the best written text for EMT-B there is. Take the time (a lot!) to read it thoroughly. It does miss the mark if you solely rely on it to take the National EMT-B test: press your instructor's for the many detail's not in this book that are on the test if you want to pass!

1-0 out of 5 stars Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, Ninth Edition (Purchased on 01/11/2006)
It's horriable. I still havn't recieved it, and the dates you say the item will ship keep changing. This is for a class, and we've reached mid-term and I still have not recieved this book. It's a good thing i found a loner, won't be buying class materials from amazon anymore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive textbook on air transportation management

This book provides a comprehensive coverage of various aspects of the air transportation business. The book is well written and easy to follow and understand which makes is accessible to a wide audience and all stakeholders of the air transport industry. Even those who are not familiar with the industry should find it easy to assimilate the information.

The positive points above are also the main drawback of the book for those that need a more indepth coverage of the subject, who may find the book a bit shallow. The authors also need to update the book to take into account the various major changes that continue to take place in the air transport industry.

Therefore I recommend the book to those seeking a comprehensive but basic knowledge of the air transport business.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Organized Text on Managing Air Transportation
Whether you manage an airline, an airport, or aspire to do so, This text is for you. To the best of my knowledge, it is the only true textbook on management in the air transportation industry and it is worth every penny of its cost.

I have a long interest in the airline industry and it was nice to find a book that has no agenda that covers the subject. Although truly a textbook it is a well-organized, well thought out book that is easy to follow and understand. Perfect for students or managers in the industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Aviation Delight
I have purchased Mr. Wells books for many years. Every book is meticulously and painstakenly accurate. His books are most appropriate for college level and post-graduate aviation students beginning their formal training. Yet, I find myself scrambling back to all his books for background information, general and some detailed analysis all the time.

Include this book into your library. It's part of my classic aviation collection. There are chapter outlines, checklists, and relevant examples applied to give the novice a quick blast into an aerospace career.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best text on the market
This book is "the" standard book to use in any type of air transportation environment (industry, academia, self-use). This book is a one-stop shop for anything and everything one needs to know about aviation (GA and commercial). Looking forward to future titles by the authors.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK as an introduction, but not very in-depth
I purchased this book as a soon-to-be MBA graduate going to work for one of the leading airlines.I must say that it did not fulfill my expectations. It IS a very good brief overview of the major issues and concerns that air carriers face.As such it may be very useful to those unfamiliar with the industry at all and those with only a limited business background. For students at a graduate level, I cannot recommend this book. ... The book is informative, and easy to read. I got it in a timely mannor and the price was right. I saved a lot compared to buying it from the school

4-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT DUTY WRITE UP FOR A SHIPPING GUY

Wow, definitively a good book which I'm now recommending to my subordinates and co-workers to read. Definitively worth a positive review and comment from my part. It made me laugh my lungs off with the comments which really indicate right on what we, as Distribution Center managers go through. So it keeps it fun and informative and quite sincerely, I learned a lot of new things by reading it.

It got a bit boring at the end when it got into the computer chapters but this is probably because this was data I already knew. I'm sure someone who doesn't know anything about computers would enjoy these last chapters just as much. However the whole book is worth to be purchased and read. If you don't like the last two chapters, just don't read them.

I would describe this book more like a post write up, a manual for your post, which is exactly what I was looking for, not a bunch of "new techniques" from some hot shot who doesn't even understand what he is talking about.

On that note, I really appreciate that the author kept it simple, with defined terms and not trying to use a bunch of nomenclature only a very seasoned logistic manager could understand, which is obviously not why someone would buy and read this book. Thanks for the glossary too.

As a last note, I have now ordered all the books you recommend on your book and I'm sure I will find them very helpful.

I give your book a sincere 10. Thanks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misguided
I bought this book because I thought that it would help me in my business. I was hoplessly wrong. This book offers nothing new and is completely worthless especially for readers bases outside the USA. I'm sure that Mr. Stroh is good at Transport and Logistics, but he is terrible at explaining them comprehensively.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Transportation Economists
This is a great book for students, researchers, and professionals such as analysts and consultants!! If you are a student with Eco 101 background, this book can guide you through learning the theory and applying the theory to analyze issues in transportation decision-making. If you need to write a course paper for your class, you can simply read one of the Case Studies in the book, and then conduct your own research from there. It will save you a lot of time! If you are a researcher or in research business, you will find that the theory and cases in the book cover most of the important issues in transportation economics. The Case Study is more than a literature review, because it not only presents the conclusions as most literature reviews would do, it actually lists the models and equations and explains how the models are specified. It is really a great book to have handy.

If Professor McCarthy decides to release a new edition sometime down the road, I would wish that he expand the investment chapters and add a new chapter on transportation financing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Editing
Purchased this book for instruction in entry level Transportation Course, to which it seems basically well suited. The book however suffers from chronic poor editing of the charts and graphs, poor layout of some charts, such as the motor carrier unit cost chart, and the chart detailing the quantities of foodstuffs consumed in New York. I would let this go if it occurs once, but lack of quality control in these areas comes through more than that. A good entry level text with good scope. I will have to fill in the gaps to assure understanding.

While much of the transportation systems in Europe and the United States are mature (if not senescent), the rest of the world is still planning, developing, and deploying new systems. The accomplishments and mistakes of places like the United Kingdom and the United States, then, can teach us lessons that may be applied to places where transportation remains nascent or adolescent. The Transportation Experience seeks to understand the genesis of transportation policy in America and the UK, along with the roles that this policy plays as systems are innovated, deployed, and reach maturity, and how policies might be improved. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read on transportation
I am not an expert in the field of transportation but I am interested in the history of technology and the synthesis of various areas of expertise, which is why I found this book rewarding.

The title and the major part headings were a bit vague but further reading proved to be worthwhile.

Parts include:

Life Cycle of the Railroads
Modal Experiences
Transit, Turnpike, highways, canals, ocean, aviation
Inputs and Outputs
Communication, energy, environment, finance, forecasting, time, land
Creating Experiences
Innovation, technology, imagination, benefits
Speculations

The book is accessible to an educated reader and advanced knowledge of the field of transportation is not necessary. However, a broad interest in transportation, policy, city planning, economics, geography, and in particular, network development is definitely a plus.If you can read academic writing this book is fine.

The main question that the book asks is:Why can't we do better in the field of transportation? This question is then answered by looking not only at transportation itself but all the other areas that affect transportation. The book looks at well developed modes of transport (railroad) and speculates about possible futures, such as PRT (personal rapid transit). The authors' aim to use the past to speculate on the future and to point alternative routes of development that are still available to other parts of world. This is interesting for not being purely descriptive, though it is heavy in case history.

One of the interesting facts that I found in the book was that the S-curve of innovation was first used by Tarde in 1890, which makes all the self-glorious management books on innovation neither overly innovative nor well researched.

Overall, a surprisingly good read for me.The pull-out boxes provide interesting short reading the history of various things such as Bell Labs, air mail, and the US Army Corps of Engineer. The main body of the text asks and analyses why the field of transportation has not done better but argues we can do well in the future if we, the reader, understand the underlying history, logic, and knowledge boundaries of transportation systems.

I give it 4 and a half stars, but I never give 5. ... Read more

The problems in this book are all qualitative. The solutions in this book show possible errors that can occur when solving the problems in addition to the correct solution.Below the problem is a "hint" to help you get started in the right direction.I didn't use the "hints" and didn't find them to be effective for my learning style. The problems are more in-depth than those found on the test but the idea behind this material is to introduce the student to the concepts found on the exam and improve your solving capabilities in a limited amount of time. The book doesn't teach you how to solve a problem in 6-minutes, which is what the title leads to believe.
