5-0 out of 5 stars Hynek's seminal work is still relevant, three decades on

This seminal work of scientific enquiry was first published in 1972. It's still relevant today, and remains one of the deepest, most informed and convincing works ever published about the UFO phenomenon in all its various manifestations. The book was re-published in 1998 by Marlowe, and this later edition is reviewed here.

J. Allen Hynek, the author, was Chair of the Astronomy Department at Northwestern University and Consultant to the US Air Force during its 25-year long investigation into Unidentified Flying Objects. Hynek died in 1986, two years before Donald Keyhoe, having gone through a complete 180-degree conversion from outspoken scepticism about the UFO issue to acceptance of the phenomenon as real and to voicing open criticism, even on national TV, of the debunking and cover-up tactics deployed by the USAF in its public-relations management of the issue.

The author put forward some interesting and radical ideas about what the phenomenon might be, embracing but not necessarily restricted to the extraterrestrial hypothesis. The fact that Jacques Vallee writes the foreword to this book should tell any reader right off the bat that here we are dealing with a serious enquiring mind, and what follows does not disappoint.

At 234 pages the book is divided into three sections:

1. The UFO Phenomenon - which subdivides into The laughter of science, The UFO experienced, The UFO reported, and On the strangeness of UFO reports

2. The data and the problem - Nocturnal lights, Daylight sightings, Radar reports and then an explanation of Hynek's own first, second and third kind classification system

3. Where do we go from here? - The problem with Blue Book, "Science is not always what scientists do" and finally, "The case before us"

The book is scholarly, accurate, conservative and overall, excellent. Furthermore, it is well written in a literate style, completely free of typos, well annotated with interesting appendices, absorbing and occasionally (intentionally) humorous. Hynek had a great mind and was a true expert in his subject, and could write well. We're dealing with a real phenomenon, Hynek concludes, and scientists had better take it seriously and start to investigate. The fact this has not happened in the real world since Hynek's demise could be the subject of another (much larger) book - or several.

Many millions of people who have watched Steven Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" may be unaware that it was Hynek who originally postulated the term "Close Encounters" and divided them into those of the "First, Second and Third kind", and that Hynek actually had a cameo role in Spielberg's film.

If you're interested in understanding this phenomenon, or the long history of informed public debate about it, you should read both this book and its companion "The Hynek UFO Report", analyzing cases from Blue Book. Consider also the 1975 book "The Edge of Reality", co-authored by Vallee and Hynek.

Hynek's "UFO Experience" is right up there as one of the very best works about this phenomenon ever written, along with Edward Ruppelt's seminal 1956 "Report on Unidentified Flying Objects", Jerome Clark's 2-volume Encyclopedia (get the second edition), David Jacobs' 1975 doctoral thesis "The UFO Controversy in America", some of Jacques Vallee's books, and Timothy Good's "Above Top Secret" and its follow-ups "Beyond Top Secret" and "Need to Know".

Every serious collection of UFO literature should contain all Allen Hynek's published work - especially this one, which is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Data and patterns.
This book is the essential starting place for people who want to know the truth about UFOs or to understand what has gone wrong in the way they have been studied so far.

Not a true believe nor a having an agenda to make sure all UFO experiences are debunked J Allen Hyneck gives the perspective of a true scientist and his approach should have been followed.
Most UFO investigators try to make the facts fit their hypothesis! This author just collects data and look for patterns.

PROJECT OF DECODING OF 'THE STORMER EFFECT'
© Henadzi Filipenka

Henadzi Filipenka, 6a-7 Boldina str. Grodno 230030 Belarus
The phenomenon is described by K.Stormer in his work 'The Problem of Aurora Borealis' in the chapter entitled 'The Echo of Short Waves, Which Comes Back in Many Seconds After The Main Signal'.
In 1928 the radio engineer Jorgen Hals from Birder near Oslo informed K.Stermer about an odd radio echo received 3 seconds after the cessation of the main signal; besides, an ordinary echo encircling the Earth within 1/7 of a second was received.
In July Prof. Stermer spoke to Dr. Van-der-Paul in Andhoven and they decided to carry out experiments in autumn and send telegraphic signals in the form of undamped waves every 20 seconds three dashes one after the other. On 11 October 1928 between 15.30 and 16.00, K.Stermer heard an echo 'beyond any doubt'; the signals lasted for 1,5- 2 seconds on undamped waves 31,4 meters long.
Stermer and Hals recorded the intervals between the main signal and the mysterious echo:
1) 15, 9, 4, 8, 13, 8, 12, 10, 9, 5, 8, 7, 6
2) 12, 14, 14, 12, 8
3) 12, 5, 8
4) 12, 8, 5, 14, 14, 15, 12, 7, 5.5, 13, 8, 8, 8, 13, 9,10,7,14,6,9,5
5) 9
Atmospheric disturbances were insignificant at that time.
The frequency of echoes was equal to that of the main signal. K.Stermer explained the nature of echoes by reflection of radio waves from layers of particles ionised by the Sun. But!
The Professor of the Stenford Electrotechnical University R.Bracewell suggested possibility of informational communication through space probes between more or less developed civilisations in space. From that point of view the information about decoding of Stermer series can be found in following journals:
'Smena' No.2 Moscow 1966 , 'Astronautics and Aeronautics' No.5 USA 1973, 'Technika Molodezi' No.4 1974 and No.5 1977 Moscow, etc.
The author of this work offers the following decoding: let the numbers in the series be replaced for chemical symbols of elements with corresponding nuclear charges:
1) P F Be O Al O Mg Ne F B O N C
2) Mg Si Si Mg O
3) Mg B O
4) Mg O B Si Si P Mg N B B Al O O O Al F Ne N Si C F B
5) F
It is easy to see that the second series is repeated at the beginning of the forth series with the only difference that in the forth series silicon is alloyed with boron and phosphorus, i.e. 'p-n transition' of a diode is created. The third series describes receipt of pure boron through action on boron anhydrite by magnesium: B2O3 Mg = B ...
The author of the above hypothesis wrote his degree paper on silicon carbide light-emitting diode, that is why the ending of the forth series is the most simple- it is a modern light-emitting diode. Silicon carbide is alloyed with nitrogen and boron with 'some participation' of fluorine.
Approximately the same way diamond is alloyed with participation of fluorine in laboratories of 'other civilisations', as can be seen at the ending of the first series. In the middle of the forth series corundum, the base of ruby, is also alloyed with boron, nitrogen and
fluorine.
In the fifth series simply fluorine is educed as a useful but very aggressive gas. Inert neon seems to divide optoelectronic devices.
In conclusion, some repeated applications should be noticed: fluorine favours in a way either diffusion of boron or electronic processes in forbidden zones of diamond, silicon carbamide; for some reason magnesium contacts are used.
In 1928 semi-conductor devices were not in use on Earth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the Bible of Ufology
Anyone interested in learning about UFOs must read this book. It is a primary starting point for understanding ufology. If you have already read a few other books on UFOs, you still need to read this book to gain a grounded foundation in the study of UFOs.

Everyone in the world should read this book at least once in his or her lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the most important UFO Book ever published
It isn't often that any book can be considered the "most important" or "most influential" in the field that it studies, but Dr. J. Allen Hynek's "UFO Experience" probably does qualify as the most important study of the UFO phenomenon ever written. Why? Unlike most UFO books, which are written by "true believers" who look uncritically at UFOs and whose authors have little or no scientific expertise, Hynek's "UFO Experience" has both the credentials and the objectivity to be taken seriously. Hynek was a respected astronomer at Northwestern University in Chicago and spent over twenty years (1948-1969) as the chief scientific analyst for the US Air Force's Project Blue Book, the government's official study of the UFO phenomenon.

What makes Hynek especially credible is that he started out as a debunker - he thought UFO's were "nonsense" and helped the Air Force to debunk most sightings. But as the years passed Hynek gradually became convinced that some UFO reports were not hoaxes or weather balloons or stars or some other "normal" phenomena and that they might represent something extraordinary - even ET visitation from other planets. In the late 1960's he became openly critical of how Blue Book's staff was handling the UFO reports it was receiving. (In many cases Blue Book's staff didn't make even a brief investigation of a UFO sighting - they simply made up an explanation and filed it away). When the Condon Report was published in 1969 and stated that the UFO phenomenon was "useless" to science, Hynek decided to set up his own organization - with as many credible scientists as possible - to continue to study UFO reports in a serious and scientific way. In 1972 he published the "UFO Experience" in part as a rebuttal to the Condon Report's dismissal of the UFO phenomenon. He points out that although the Condon Report claimed that there was no evidence that UFOs represented anything other than hoaxes and/or misidentifications of known aerial objects, the Report couldn't find "normal" explanations for nearly one-third of the UFO incidents it examined, and had to list them as "unsolved".

The "UFO Experience" still makes what many people believe to be the strongest scientific argument that UFOs deserve serious study by qualified scientists. Much of the book discusses the "Close Encounter" UFO sightings which clearly fascinated Hynek. A "Close Encounter of the First Kind" was a UFO observed at extremely close range - within 500 feet. Hynek notes that the closeness of the object helps eliminate the possibility that the witness saw an "ordinary" object - an airplane or a star, for example. A "Close Encounter of the Second Kind" is one in which the UFO physically interacts with the witness - their car shuts off, the UFO leaves burn marks on the ground, etc. And a "Close Encounter of the Third Kind" is one in which the witness actually sees "UFOnauts" either inside or outside the UFO. This last category was used as the title of Steven Spielberg's famous 1978 movie - Spielberg was an admirer of Hynek and gave him a cameo role in the movie. The book is well-written, but it is a "scientific" work and the reader should know that it sometimes contains technical and scientific language and theories. Dr. Hynek pulls no punches in his criticism of the Condon Report or other scientists who choose to ignore the evidence he cites. In short, although nearly 30 years have passed since it was published, Hynek's "UFO Experience" remains one of the best-argued scientific examinations of the UFO phenomenon. If you're interested in learning about UFOs, then this book is a good place to start. (A good "companion" volume to this book is the "Hynek UFO Report", published five years after the "UFO Experience" and which discusses actual UFO cases taken directly from the files of Project Blue Book). ... Product Description

A never-before-heard firsthand account of a government insider’s experience on the cutting edge of UFO exploration

While still on active duty in the U.S. Army during the 1980s, Colonel John B. Alexander, Ph.D., created an interagency group to explore the controversial topic of UFOs. Participants came from the Army, Navy, Air Force, CIA, NSA, DIA, and the aerospace industry. All members held Top Secret clearance. What they discovered was not at all what was expected. UFOs covers the numerous cases they saw, and answers questions like:

• What was really in Hanger 18?
• Did a UFO land at Holloman Air Force Base?
• What happened at Roswell?
• What is Majestic 12?
• What is the Aviary?
• What does the government know about UFOs?
• What has happened with disclosure in other countries?
• Has the U.S. reverse engineered a UFO?
• Why don’t presidents get access to UFO info?

UFOs is at once a complete account of Alexander’s findings, and a call to action. There are no conspiracy theories here—only hard facts—but they are merely the beginning. Serious research is needed in order to understand and anticipate the workings of UFOs, and John Alexander is leading the charge.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Believe
This book is well researched and has the ring of truth without the sensationalism that normally surrounds this subject. I visited the UFO Museum in Roswell recently which is, generally, not a sensationalist place but a museum of the facts surrounding the Roswell Incident. All of the participants were sworn to secrecy, on pain of death, imprisonment or harm to their families, which most maintained. In reading the story of one of the soldiers involved in the incident, on his death bed he presented a copy of this book to his heirs with the handwritten note in it that "this is what really happened". Oddly, although the Museum has an extensive library on the subject and all others related to UFOs, they did not have a copy of this book! Read it and you too will be convinced of the government coverup that occurred and that the government has remains of something alien to which the public has never been privy.

AMERICA'S25 BEST BOOKS ON UFOS AND EXTRATERRESTRIALS. THE LIST.
Americans love lists. A trend that has started in 1960-1965; I felt it first hand while a student in Boston. Today, there are lists of the best; lists of the worst; lists of everything.
I never thought, some could spend quality time assembling charts and lists on the best of UFOs' and extraterrestrials books. Actually there are a sizeable amount of lists pertaining to that effect. So I joined in. However, I did it my way; scholastically.

If you had a child or an elderly at home, what sort of UFO and extraterrestrials books would you give him or her for direction, or as a gift? Not an easy task, I can tell you that! Nevertheless, I have some good ideas.

1-0 out of 5 stars This isn't Science Fact! This is Science Fiction!
I read "The Roswell UFO Crash" and laughed. I read "The Truth About The UFO Crash At Roswell" and laugh even more. How can these two guys actually believe that the government would do something likethis?! I am a firm beliver in conspiracies such as the JFK assassination, but I cannot be convinced that little green men have been visiting theEarth and don't even make formal contact. Everything in this book is moreparanoid than an episode of "The X-Files!" It gets so paranoid toa degree that you notice it's all garbage used to sell books. Let's saythat the government is covering up Alien contact, why should they with somany sightings and cases of Alien Abduction? Them covering it up is a waistof time because we already know the truth! Hell, today it would even bemore stupid with the degree of paranoia the country has reached! I say readthe book, but pretend you're reading an "X-Files" novilazation. It's more fun.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Marked Deck, A House Of Cards
Piece by piece the Randle/Schmitt mound of "evidence" has been whittled away since the book was published, leaving a hulking heap of rumor, innuendo, misperception, distorted memory, and "witness"fabrication to play around with. I went back and read this book again toconfirm that view after I had read COSMIC TEST TUBE. It has a chapter onRoswell that makes the strongest possible case for an extraterrestrialevent, then the author turns around and demolishes the extraterrestrialargument using logic and the evidence for a secret Mogol balloon launch.Subsequent events have bolstered his analysis!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good theories here, but check out the other researchers too
As a long-time reader/researcher on the "Roswell Incident" (I wrote & produced the audio tape tour of The International UFO Museum & Research Center in Roswell) I find this book's premise to be amongthe most feasable. Although the authors may be wrong about the location of"the impact site," (so far there are 4 proposed "crashsites" touted by different witnesses and researchers) there almostcertainly was a craft recovery--with probable bodies and a possibleSURVIVOR--in addition to the material recovered from the so-called"debris-site" near Corona. For a complete "1-oh-1" onRoswell, also read "Crash At Corona" by Stanton Friedman and"The Roswell Incident" by Wm Moore. Both these books preceededthe Randle tomes (there are 2 by Randle & Schmitt, the other being"The UFO Crash at Roswell") and it takes all 3 to cover thetwists, turns and tut-tuts of this "grandaddy" of all UFOstories. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Let us not speak of ignorance or bias by a certain reviewer!
I found this book to be very fascinating and readily kept my attention. He has researched well and although reaches no specific conclusions, does indeed raise several premises that are not as hypothetical as they may seem.Having dealt with intelligence factors since VietNam, to take on the arrogance of a certain reviewer concerning Ken's work and hide behind anonymity reveals a great deal about the reviewer.Ken's work is an asset to his name, and I applaud him for daring to be forthright concerning his possible speculations. As to the reviewer, you had better come out of your hiding place if you think "they" are not watching.I worked with an agency that could literally monitor any call being placed in the world at any time.Ken has kicked the toe of a giant!Unfortunately, it is the people who are sleeping, not the giant!

1-0 out of 5 stars Puh-leeze
I picked up this disjointed piece of dreck at the local library booksale. (If nobody checks out a book for more than two or three years, they don't keep it. Now I know why.) Turns out it was a total waste of my 25 cents. Mr. Thomas "uncovers" conspiratorial "connections" which would only be plausible to an intellectually-challenged, unmedicated paranoid schizophrenic. See, the Gubbament doesn't want you to know about Stuff, see, and so they like, brainwash people and stuff, see ... it's a fact! Puh-leeze, the X-files was fiction there, bubba. It is illuminating to note that two of the 5-star reviews for this windy and disjointed diatribe are by the author himself, and another touts how utterly engrossing it was for an eight-year-old. Ahem. In short, if you are in need of kindling, I heartily recommend you check out this author's other vanity press works. And K-k-k-ken(n), better kept your curtains closed, 'cause THEY'RE WATCHING!!! Ooooooo, scary!

5-0 out of 5 stars Availability of this book is about to drop/Puh-leeze lie*
I have received word that the remaining print run of Maury Island UFO was destroyed by the widow of the publisher, who wanted to deplete the stock and close the business. I am sending out this heads up to tell potential readers that this might mean an escalation in the price of the book before too long. One of my previous books, The Octopus, typically sells for $100 these days. So get 'em while they're cheap!

* I would apologize too readers of the "Puh-leeze" review on this page, but who can apologize for all the children out there with a computer to play on? I would like to correct an impression left by one of the reviewer's lies, though: none of my books has been pubilshed by a vanity or on-demand press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading
Sifting through the dust and slag of a peculiar historical event--and turning up new gems of information--is just what author/researcher Kenn Thomas has always possessed a certain instinctive knack for.

With Maury Island UFO: The Crisman Conspiracy, Thomas has once again added new perspective to a tale that has been retold many times by UFO investigators, though the dangling threads have never quite been pieced together, and conclusively sewn shut. (But what UFO case ever is?) This is not to suggest that Thomas has tied everything together at last, and arrived at a final answer to the mystery of what went down at Maury Island; first with the slippery sightings of Harold Dahl and Fred Crisman, then later during Kenneth Arnold's investigation of the case, when the Men In Black apparently reared their finely attired heads, along with Air Force Intelligence and other assorted spooks and hobgoblins.

What Thomas has done, though, is a very thorough research job outlining Crisman's involvement in the Maury Island affair, and how this all connects--oddly enough--to the JFK assassination dance party, and ultimately Danny Casolaros' Octopus. At first glance, one might consider such connections as these the ravings of some half-cocked "conspiracy nut", but Thomas' research is so extensive and exhaustive that one is left with enough evidence to draw their own conclusions as to just what type of mischief the enigmatic Mr. Crisman was up to. Now, how many people do you know who have seen a UFO, collected remnants of same, and were also involved (allegedly) in the Kennedy assassination? (Not to mention battling Deros in subterranean caverns?) Well, Fred Crisman very well might have achieved all of the above, along with a lot of other strange undertakings during the course of his colorful career.

Although the evidence contained in Maury Island UFO is not conclusive by any means, after reading this book one can not deny that Crisman was as equally mercurial as other figures linked to the Kennedy assassination--from David Ferrie to Kerry Thornley--among a whole host of other spooks and bit players who lurked in and out of the shadows of Dealey Plaza and similar strangely infested environs, such as Maury Island, the home of the first modern UFO case, that may very well have been a disinformation hoax at the hands of Mr. Fred Lee Crisman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Gold
This book, along with The Cave of Time, made everybody my age in the early eigties want to choose their own adventure, either in this series or any of the other clones that it brought about. What UFO 54-40 teaches us is the blatant futility of aspiring for a perfect or utopian society unless we as a people learn to collectively cheat and read ahead in the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kidnapped by aliens!
You were aboard a supersonic jet, going from New York to Paris, when a huge, gleaming white cylinder shoots out of the clouds. The next thing you know you are inside the spaceship the Rakma, a captive of the U-TY, masters of the space craft.
Will you cooperate, pretend to cooperate or try to escape? What you decide to do might free you or enslave you for life. This Choose Your Own Adventure book seems a tad more logical.Choices sometimes result in major changes. The story line is interesting and the artwork by Paul Granger is cool. There is even a layout of the spaceship. The character of Kim Lee is even cute! One of the better of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars CYOA done right
This is one of the few CYOA books that I felt deserved special attention. You learn and discover new things with every choice made, and things don't change willy-nilly just because you went left instead of right. What I mean here is the cause doesn't changes, only the effect. The endings are also concrete and mostly void of the abstract, questionable type. Take a look inside the ufo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rules are made to be broken
I was in third grade when I stumbled upon my teacher's (Mrs. Smith) copy of this book in our classroom. It was the first time I had ever seen a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book.I was enthralled from the get go.As a young child, the ability to choose your path through the story made reading more immediately interactive (as video games purport to be today) and allowed someone (me) with a very low level of patience and attention span to learn to love to read.Above this, there is one very interesting fact about this book. There is an ending that cannot be reached by following the very foundational rules of the book.It must either be found on accident (by turning to the wrong page) or by systematically breaking down the book's paths and realizing one page has no connection to any of the others. It seems very elementary to anyone of any age and experience today, but it struck home to me then a very important lesson - follow your own path, break rules, don't accept anything as fact, dance to the beat of your own drum.Pretty empowering thing to learn from such a seemingly innocuous book huh?

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Edward Packard's best CYOA books
I used to love these books as a kid, and even though invariably thought that those by Edward Packard were the best. This was my third favorite book, behind two other Edward Packard CYOA books Hyperspace and Survival At Sea.This book is only book in the series that also features a unique "special ending" that cannot be encountered through normal decision making. Can you stumble upon paradise??Get the book to find out!

Recommended for anybody who enjoys the Choose Your Own Adventure genre, and especially for kids who enjoy science fiction. ... Read more

Product Description
A comprehensive and in-depth look at the early 'flying saucer technology' of Nazi Germany and the genesis of early man-made UFOs. From captured German scientists, escaped battalions of German soldiers, secret communities in South America and Antarctica to today's state-of-the-art 'Dreamland' flying machines, the astonishing book blows the lid off the 'Government UFO Conspiracy'. Examined in detail are secret underground airfields and factories; German secret weapons; 'suction' aircraft; the origin of NASA; gyroscopic stabilisers and engines; the secret Marconi aircraft factory in South America, and other secret societies, both ancient and modern, that have kept this craft a secret, and much more. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A significant contribution
Although the extraterrestrial 'answer' has gotten most of the press, many important events were never adequately explained. The 'foo fighters' seen during the war were real, but not until a researcher located a document that included details about 'phoo bombs' did something official get added to the story. And the 'ghost rockets' seen over northern Europe in 1946 never got an adequate explanation either, although the Russians had definitely taken over the German research station at Peenemunde. Somehow, that was forgotten in 1947 when private pilot Kenneth Arnold saw something flying near Mount Ranier. What was it? In his report to the Air Force, he drew a spade shaped object, on the cover of his own book, it becomes semicircular, and a photo shows him holding a painting of what is clearly a particular type of flying wing, the Horten IX.

This book provides a solid foundation. Add to that what Rudolf Lusar published in the German title, Waffen und Geheimwaffen, and a clearer picture emerges. Then add in Flying Saucer Aircraft by Bill Rose.

Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well researched, a bit dated but still worthwhile read
This impressive tome results from very extensive research in both newspapers and technical papers. The documents quoted extend back into the 1920s and 30s ( and perhaps earlier ).

The authors take roughly half the book covering Nazi experiments and operational planning. While much information seems to have been suppressed during the war ( and to this day ), there is obviously much available upon which to propound several theories. The two most important theories are: 1) there was extensive German research done concerning unique airframes and propulsion systems, and 2) that research was continued by Allied and Soviet governments well after the war ended, sometimes with the original German researchers.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone convinced that we are being visited by extraterrestrials, and not being duped by government incompetents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reasonably good book
This book is a reprint of the book, "Intercept UFO" by Renato Vesco. That original book was the best researched book on flying saucers I have ever read, outlining their technical origins stemming from aeronautical researches in Boundary Layer Control. But David Childress bought the rights & added to the front & back of Vesco's book, and his additional material isn't nearly as well researched.Basically, what Childress added was junk. So, the book within the book is excellent, but the overall book suffered when Childress added his material.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just some thoughts on this whole shtick
This is an interesting book (I was given a copy as a gift by a young relative who's a UFO nut)--with some darned strange and entertaining information--and it's a lot more info packed than plenty of other books on this bizarre and somewhat unbelievable topic, even if some or even much of that info is deeply questionable. That's why four stars.

Overall, books on these subjects that I've read or scanned through either flat-out stink or are almost precisely half good/half bad; OR they gloriously self destruct--kind of the way "Hunt for Zero Point" demolished its credibility at the very conclusion with a silly-arsed chapter (that had little to do with the thrust of the book) on some goofy Canadian psychic. Yet another gift.

It's interesting because, at times, the stuff that makes these books sink (that was sink, not stink)--and they ALL eventually do (this one far less than most)--is often gratuitous or downright silly. For example, a chapter that will contain volumes of solid-seeming information, name names, reveal dates and locations, and interlock well with the commonly accepted path of history is then usually followed by talk of reptilian aliens or bizarre psychic experiments. The photograph section (first thing I look at) is usually the worst case--a couple of intriguing ones surrounded by blatant laughable fakes. Weirdly, some of these books (like this one) often have remarkably convincing pics that one can never seem to unearth elsewhere. I've noticed this phenomenon with UFO documentaries--the European ones I've been shown often have footage--especially very old movies--taken in the US that are total surprises.

These books--from this fairly decent offering (it's the only one I can recommend with a straight face) to the outrageous Commander X offerings I read about here on Amazon--don't really provide much solid immediate proof of anything. That's obvious. However, taken all together, and given that some fairly tantalizing information DOES turn up in them, they exhibit all the symptoms of carefully calculated distraction.

I'd always suspected that about this publishing phenomenon, but it was the Nick Cook book that cinched it for me--given that the author was an editor of a world-respected technology magazine (that I once read regularly) and he was clearly within his depth, his writing is wildly schizophrenic (the book reads like it was written by two separate people) and the inclusion of some intensely flaky material crudely demolishes any believability the book may have mustered. I was actually excited about that book when its release was announced, but stopped recommending it after I read it. The book made anyone touting it look like a kook--and I pretty much suspect that's what the intention was.

Honestly, I suspect we're all being jerked around a bit and whoever's doing the jerking has cranked the game up a notch in recent years. Once it was bad books on flying saucers by questionable characters--I read a lot of them when I was a kid. Now we're getting people like Cook and Colonel Corso (who wrote that benumbing book on the "Roswell crash"--yet another gift!)--folks with genuine credentials--scribing 98% decent, 2% absolutely ridiculous books. Whatever they're doing, it works, and it works well. Time was when you were the lovable town eccentric if you talked a lot about UFOs; now you're the scary town paranoid right-wing survivalist if you ask hard questions about WWII German black projects and what we've been secretly doing the last 60 years with trillions of dollars of R&D money.

A few years ago I helped a New Age-y friend write a magazine article on a subject that I still find a bit much. This person wanted a level head to bounce ideas off (makes me sound like a ping-pong table) and I thought the whole endeavor would be an amusing hoot. After a few months of this--lots of traveling and meeting fringe people--I realized I'd learned a few things: for one, these people I was meeting (and many were very nice) were about the most gullible lot ever--they were so desperate to find proof of their beliefs that they could have been easily fooled by anyone (and a pretty unscrupulous anyone--they were nice and harmless). For another, while they were all captivated by one shining bauble or another, I kept noticing things off to the sideline that WERE genuinely odd. By project's end I had a lot of questions about plenty of things that weren't anywhere within the sphere of our subject. When I probed deeper, later, and on my own, it all got even weirder, and eventually I just gave up. The world stopped making sense.

I suspect that anyone interested in this man-made UFO phenomenon would get similar results if they quit paying close attention to books like these and started scrounging for oddities in other directions, or at least looking at the distractions with very different eyes and intents. Example: why in God's name would Peter Jennings of all people have hosted a UFO special, and why did that special in fact subtly debunk the whole issue when it promised to do otherwise? Stuff like that. It's fun to analyze these things; kind of like doing crossword puzzles.

Doesn't matter really. Let's face it, any genuine info on any subject as hot as moon men or anti-gravity is just not ever going to get out to The Public. All we know is the stage curtain is moving around a lot indicating there's plenty of activity going on behind it. Something else to think about--maybe a lot of that potential "black" technology is incredibly, mind-bogglingly dangerous.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Truly Interesting Look at UFOs and Their Possible Origin
This title is an update of a book originally published in 1971 that was a real eye - opener for me. This updated version has all of the excitement of the first book plus new material. It is a well researched volume that gives what I believe is very good evidence that real UFOs are high - performance aircraft made here on Earth.
The book does not provide proof that real UFOs are manufactured here, but does provide historical information that points to a short period of incredible research and development from about 1938 to 1950. German scientists then were even better than many of us know, and most of us have known that they were extremely good. Apparently, Germany's super weapons which were under development in World War II had considerable basis in fact, and some of them observed by American pilots and bomber crews over Germany, were not only operational, but were effective. According to the authors, these weapons were subsequently further developed by the victors after the war and were made operational.
Well documented sightings such as the "Lubbock Lights" in the Texas panhandle and saucers (confirmed by radar) over Washington D.C. are among the most famous appearances described. The authors do a convincing job of giving reasons for UFO development, the basics of how they worked and how manufacturing could have been kept secret from the public. It is an impressive read. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars BO startling message
The children grade level is actually a code that hides the true meaning of the book. You have to decipher it carefully since hostile aliens don't want the message out that UFOs exist.

I took the book to a few scientific doctors who helped me "crack" it.In all, it was a pretty startling message.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mystery Files
When I purchased this book, I didn't realize the grade level it was targeted to. My expectation was for an adult look at this far-too-often criticized phenomenon / mystery. This book, however, appears written for school-aged children. Don't expect a scientific expose' on the subject and don't expect to be too "shocked..." Love the subject, disappointed in the advertizing for this particular product... Other than that, the younger crowd may just love it... It's a great introduction to the subject.

3-0 out of 5 stars More anecdotic than deep
May be because it's size (64 pages), 24/7 UFO's is not as deep as one could desire. It's format is probably aimed to attract teenagers, but let some void into more serious readers. But, anyhow, this little book could be a nice source for more interest in the matter, and it have a good brief of UFO information resources. It migth be a link to more extraterrestrial readings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important
The book is important because the author gave us solid scientific proof.
It should eliminate any doubt in your mind.
Read it and study it.
A very good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars They are Here
Having read a previous edition and now the newest edition it just keeps getting better. This is about the most accurate information you are going to find on this subject. Collins speaks from experience, not wild speculation and if one wants to know the truth this book will take you there.
I can't see how people cannot believe in alien craft. Seeing UFOs is becoming so common around planet Earth and themillions of inhabitants of Earth can't all be seeing swamp gas! And what about the testimony of the military personal at the recent National Press Club in Washington DC?
Wake Up! They are here, we just have to figure out what they want.

With an open mind it's really very simple;
(1) Remove Blinders
(2) Tilt Head Back
(3) Open Eyes
I suppose some people would never believe in UFOs and Extraterrestrials unless a craft actually landed in their backyard and the alien occupants walked up and asked if they could borrow some sugar.

UFOs are not hard to see, just keep your eyes to the sky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exempt from disclosure
I have just read the first two chapters and WOW this book answers many suspision I have had about our Goverment. I is a must read book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Implausible story
I offer no special expertise except I have a curious nature, am well read in science oriented subjects. I have a college education and have been interested in UFOs since I was 13. I can claim to have witnessed a UFO back in 1965 and it has allowed me to keep an open mind about the subject. I tried to avoid my inner bias when ascertaining the validity of such a book. Although I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about UFOs, this book had me gobsmacked. Boy, aliens are here, there, everywhere. The book is convincing about a government cover up and I am puzzled by the sheet of paper held by General Ramey back in 1947,that with modern photo enhancement technology revealed things about bodies and saucers.I sure would like to believe all the many assertions, but the second half of this book where all the alien revelations are made are so implausible I was wincing in disappointment.I was hoping some truth about UFOs.

OK, Its hard to prove or disprove claims of alien visitations to Earth for the last 10,000 years or that they have been in communication with members of the US government. There's actually some anecdotal evidence for both. I do find it hard to swallow that aliens are so integrated into the deeper layers of our secret government that for the last 50 yrs they have given us all sorts of alien technology goodies including 'sport model' saucers which run on anti-gravity engines. According to Mr Collins and Ricard Doty we now have the ability to travel in deep space and even time travel. Even though the 'Grays' are an advanced culture they seem to be fairly easy to manipulate in giving our secret government alien technology which is being reversed engineered as we speak. All the while, there are paranoid elements of our secret government who wish to use our new found technology to defend ourselves against our alien parents,so to speak. These sure are some gullible aliens. What planet are they from? Oh Zeta Reticuli! They must be from the planet where everyone always tells the truth. Our secret government has really pulled a fast one on these aliens. Another assertion is that Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer both met with an alien emissary back in the early 1950s. I would imagine had Einstein met with an advanced intelligent species that maybe he would inquire as to the nature of gravity or please enlighten a little about a Unified Field Theory, which he was working on for the last 30 yrs. Well,if Einstein found out how things really worked he didn't tell any of his physicist friends. Einstein offered no insightful physics in the 1950's before his death.

In spite of all these alien emissaries and alien technology, We are still grappling with trying to figure out what is gravity. Are there waves or loops? Where are they? We can't find any. Were still looking. If we've had anti gravity engines for the last 50 yrs wouldn't we know a little bit more? We built that Hadron thingamajig to find the 'Higgs Boson' Us pitiful humans don't even know where matter resides, let alone gravity. I find it very implausible that given the assertions of alien knowledge being integrated into our secret tech projects, not a single shred of alien science has found its way into our own surface scientific community. Every single piece of science that humans have labored over and discovered was accomplished piece by tiny piece by humans. There is a minute physical record trail with all the proper credits given to those thousands of research scientists around the world with their millions of digital and paper pages of technical data who made those discoveries. Yes, we have come a long way in the last hundred years and the discoveries and creations are wondrous, but they belong to the human race.
Its one thing to write a bunch of stuff in a book. Its another to demonstrate some special insight that hasn't been put forth by a human. Even the alien religion seemed unenlightened. A sure sign that the creators of this book lacked true imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best book on the subject of UFO's
After reading many books on the UFO subject from some the most highly proclaimed authors, this is still one of the best books on subject of UFO's.The author gives you the information like it is, if it's hearsay he lets you know it is, but if he is able to back up the information he is providing, he does and does very well with well researched documents, reference links, photos, drawings, etc.The book is well paced from the beginning to the end, it keeps you interested and wanting more.A very hard book to put down once you start reading it.If you are interested in the subject of UFO's than this is must have book. This is the book I loan out to friends that are skeptical of the subject and when they bring it back they have a new outlook as to what just might be Exempt from Disclosure!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended reading
Robert Collins provides a no-nonsense review of the UFO field with insightful references to what is and has been going on. It is one of the best written books on the subject and offers access to back-up documents to support his writings. I highly recommend it to those interested in useful, factual information without all of the hype and sensationalism. Thanks, Robert, great job! I especially appreciate your willingness to provide more detailed information via emails to those of us who want to learn more.

I am a robotics pioneer with 41 years experience. As a young boy in Montana(Big Sky country)I would go on the roof of my house and gaze at the stars and wonder about what I knew was out there somewhere. Never did see what I wanted to. However, I know from the many credible witnesses who have experienced this and the straight-forward writings of Robert Collins that there is no doubt that we have been treated like sheep with the UFO phenomenon. Books like Robert's shears some of the fleece off of us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly compelling book!
The book Unsolved UFO Mysteries, by William Birnes and Harold Burt, is a terrific read for anybody out there with an interest in UFO's.I have read dozens of books on UFO's and alien encounters over the years, but this book is special in many ways.Unlike other such works this book uses language that is scientific enough to show real legitimacy, but is simple enough for anybody to understand. Each chapter is a different story about an amazing UFO encounter that has yet to be explained. These events are not as well known as Roswell, but in many ways they are even more compelling. The book looks in to some of the strangest cases such as the Bentwaters incident, the mass sightings of a boomerang shaped craft twice the size of a football field over Phoenix, Arizona, and the bazaar encounters of a man and his wife in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The characters in this book are not the conspiracy-theory crackpots that other books mention. These are real people that range from high-ranking government officials in the Pentagon, to everyday citizens with no prior knowledge of UFOs.The authors also do a wonderful job portraying the emotions involved with people who have experienced such fantastic events.
What makes this book truly stand out is its overall believability. It is written so flawlessly that a kid in grade-school and a highly qualified scientist could pick up this book and read it without being overwhelmed.Needless to say, there are some depictions in this book that I am very skeptical about.Things like the moon being a hollowed out base for aliens and the president actually meeting with them is a little too "out there."However, the book, in general, give terrific accounts with very compelling evidence in all cases. It is truly universal in a sense that it actually goes in to the viewpoints of both the skeptics and the believers. This helps the reader form his or her own opinion about UFOs in the end. This book even goes as far to mention many compelling quotes from historical figures including one very special quote said by former President Harry Truman on April 4th, 1950 saying "I can assure you that flying saucers, given that they exist, are not constructed by any power on Earth," (page 77).I have always been a believer in the UFO phenomena and this book only strengthens my beliefs.I would highly recommend this book to anybody out there with an interest in UFOs, Aliens, or other life beyond our planet. In the end this book makes it clear that we are not alone.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview of famous alien encounters.
This book is divided into ten chapters, each addressing a different aspect of the alien phenomena. All of the best-known cases from the past 25 years or so are here, from the Gulf Breeze UFO sitings to the Rendlesham Forest incident in Great Britian to alien abductions. As another reviewer mentioned, the authors do rely largely on second-hand and anecdotal information--for example, they frequently refer to well-known books by other authors. But the purpose of this book is not to offer a lot of technical and scientific evidence; rather, it is to provide a broad overview for readers with a beginning interest in ufology.Assuming that this book sustains your interest and raises your curiousity--as it did for me--you may then want to move on to reading some of the more research-based, detailed works which are available, but this book remains an excellent introduction to ufology.

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
Flimsy evidence, not to mention half of the cases mentioned in this book are already solved. Waste of time, sorry.

2-0 out of 5 stars pulp ufo trash
If you want a real difinitive study of the whole UFO phenomenon, look elsewhere. This is merely a collection of first, second, and third-hand accounts of sightings and such. Unfortunately, these kinds of books churn out every 6 months or so, and we all buy it thinking that we will catch a unique glimpse of some inner understanding into the UFO field. But, unfortunately, we are only left with a sad paperback that has gotten us no closer to the truth, yet has cost us $8 for a book we will never read again. If you like the kind of books that Brad Steiger puts out, then this should be right up your alley.

4-0 out of 5 stars It is up to you whether to believe or not
Most people are fascinated by the possibility of ETs visiting our planet. UNSOLVED UFO MYSTERIES provides detailed accounts of some of the more documented cases of sightings from around the world. The authors providevarious perspectives and responses including the eyewitnesses, the media, the "official position", scientific analysis, and their ownthoughts. William J. Birnes and Harold Burt augment the scenarios with whythey remain unresolved and what really happened.

Whether one is anUFOlogists or not, the stories are intriguing and entertaining whileproviding a wide range of interpretation that leaves each of the 20 casesjust incredible. Even those who are skeptical to the point of wondering whythe greater than the speed of light ET does not visit a blood bank to cloneour genes, will enjoy the well written analysis of some of the top UNSOLVEDUFO MYSTERIES.

Top Secret/Majic is the result of nuclear physicist and renowned UFO investigator Stanton T. Friedman's twenty-one year search for the truth about the mysterious Operation Majestic 12, President Truman’s top-secret UFO investigation team. In this updated edition of his landmark book, he tells the incredible tale of the July, 1947 recovery of a crashed flying saucer near Roswell, New Mexico, and the establishment by President Truman of a truly all-star cast to deal with the saucer and its non-human inhabitants. The first four Directors of Central Intelligence, the first Secretary of Defense, and several outstanding scientists and military leaders were part of the team. Through painstaking research and startling evidence—including documents that have never before been published—Friedman effectively exposes the U.S. government’s biggest-kept secret: a fifty-eight year UFO cover-up. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 1984.....or 1980? Has everyone forgotten?
The controversy over who, what, when, or whether MJ-12 is or was, should be weighed heavily against the fact that entire existence of such a thing can be traced squarely to a counterintelligence operation/disinformation campaign. Why is Friedman giving the impression that MJ-12 first came to light in the film that Moore & Shandera claim to have received (in 1984?)? Has everyone forgotten that the first mention of an MJ-12 was actually in a very questionable document that purported to be a report on films taken by Paul Bennewitz--the so called Aquarius Telex? This was a document that, according to Moore, he saw (either by way of Richard Doty or in the presence of Richard Doty) in either late 1980 or early 1981. Moore also claimed to have 'rebuilt' that document from memory, and changed parts of it initially, for his own reasons.
The point is...the term 'MJ-12' (and Project Aquarius as well) appeared first in a very questionable document, and placed there is such a cryptic way that it would draw the most attention. A few years later, an entire assortment of documents were given (again to Moore, if only via Shandera) that now extolled an entire background for MJ-12 making it appear to be a 'live issue'. Regrettably, it is still a house of cards, no matter how much it is talked about. And, why is the link to Bennewitz or the Telex now skipped entirely to make MJ-12 seem to have originated in 1984?

3-0 out of 5 stars Insisting upon a myth
The notion is very interesting. I wished the author had more concrete evidence. We know that the US Government is involved with ETs,and we know the author has investigated this involvement. But where is the smoking gun? Coming from a researcher who has spent 30 years in this field, he should come up with irrefutable evidence. He did not. However, his book makes you ask questions, and this is good.

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting read!
this is a very interesting book and Friedman presents his case convincingly. a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good.He knows his stuff.
I was reading one of the critical reviews. The reviewer said that Friedman had insufficient evidence and that he was "laughed at" by Kevin Randle.

Two things are wrong with that review.First of all, Friedman has done YEARS of research on this and has checked EVERYTHING carefully.Friedman wrote over 200 pages on what...the eight pages that make up the MJ-12 documents? That's not enough evidence for you?Why don't you go to Friedman's website and read the many additional papers he has written on the subject which all refute the criticism that many other ufologists have given him?More importantly, did that reviewer even READ the book carefully?

And he thinks that Corso's fable of a book is one of the best?Uh...okay...

Second of all, Friedman is correct in labeling people like Randle and other Ufologists as "armchair theorists".They sit there and scoff because they already have the idea in their head that it is impossible for extraterrestrials to visit us!I mean c'mon, WE are in control of our world. We are powerful and something of unknown origin threatens that. The government is our friend! They wouldn't lie to us about this. That's their reasoning.Mankind LOVES to be in control, and it does not like to think about things which it cannot control, since those things could pose a threat to it.That's a known fact. That's why so many hate the idea of extraterrestrials. That's why so many are skeptics.Man HAS to be in control.

ANYWAYS...

This book was a wonderful read.VERY well researched.Friedman definitely knows his stuff. You know, the most convincing evidence in support of the documents' authenticity is this:

HOW in the world could a hoaxer have known all of the information contained within the documents such as the dates of meetings? And WHY would a hoaxer purposefully reveal himself by putting in so many SEEMINGLY erroneous material such as unorthodox date format, the inclusion of a supposed UFO Debunker as a key MJ-12 member, and a typeface not seen in the majority of US Presidential documents????

The fact is that NONE of the debunkers can answer this question.NONE HAVE.And that's why I believe they are genuine.Until they can give me more than sufficient proof against their validity IN ADDITION TO answering the questions above, I will believe in their genuineness.

You see, the government knows how to play the public. It's all about media. They've made the whole UFO subject taboo. They've made it so that the people automatically laugh and disbelieve when the subject of UFOs has been brought up.They don't bother speaking up about the subject anymore because the people are already doing their job for them.Look at the debunkers who have bought into the Air Force's pathetic explanations (like the stupid Project Mogul explanation which makes no sense whatsoever.Psh, as if people don't know what a weather balloon looks like. What do they think, we're stupid?)This isn't a conspiracy theory. If you think about it, the Universe is so vast.We would be ARROGANT to think we are the only ones.Beings from other planets know about us and our hostility. That's why they come here.Duh.Think about it -- Atomic bombs? Hydrogen bombs?Chemical weaponry?C'mon people, wouldn't we do the same if we found beings on another planet with such weaponry and the fact that it advances at an alarming rate?

Anyway, that's all I have to say!I know I diverged a bit, but you all know what I'm trying to say. =)

Don't trust everything the government tells you.Don't be gullible. They keep this information from us for obvious reasons.Just look at how people reacted when War of the Worlds was read over the radio in the 1930s.Another example would be my own parents when I was a kid. They saw a blimp in the sky which looked A LOT like a flying saucer. They SCREAMED and ran outside in terror, thinking that the end of the world was near.

If the government told people about this, society would COLLAPSE. Religion would fail.Everyone would be panicking. The stock market would crash due to immense fear.

Think about it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Home grown stuff
I am maybe a little biased being from WV myself but I can relate to all the characters in this book, I have known a lot of down home folks just like this and also remember a lot of the places referred to. People sometimes get the idea WV is back woods,hillbilly,uneducated.etc. but for the most part these are God fearing good honest people who might talk funny and live and do things a little different but that's just how they are. This is a well written book and has a lot of good human stories. There is defiantly something going on out there and I am quite sure these folks have witnessed some of it. Read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile yet frustrating book whch almost self-destructs
This is an odd work indeed. On the positive side, it provides UFO researchers with valuable information on the many WVA sightings, both historical and comtemporary, with first-hand investigations. The negatives, however, are significant: less than tight writing style, inappropriate forays (by the author) into amateur hypnosis of percepients of UFOs, and, most troubling of all, an ending which has seemingly no connection with the rest of the book, whereby Mr. Teets goes on a tirade attacking (especially) Dr. John Mack and his work with "abductees" , a subject not mentioned in the body of the work. As if this was not bad enough, Mr. Teets' leaves us with this pearl of wisdom...to "pray" ... Read more

Product Description
A complete investigation of the development and suppression of antigravity and field propulsion technologies

• Reveals advanced aerospace technologies capable of controlling gravity that could revolutionize air travel and energy production

• Reviews numerous field propulsion devices that have thrust-to-power ratios thousands of times greater than a jet engine

• Shows how NASA participates in a cover-up to block adoption of advanced technologies under military development

In Secrets of Antigravity Propulsion, physicist Paul LaViolette reveals the secret history of antigravity experimentation--from Nikola Tesla and T. Townsend Brown to the B-2 Advanced Technology Bomber. He discloses the existence of advanced gravity-control technologies, under secret military development for decades, that could revolutionize air travel and energy production. Included among the secret projects he reveals is the research of Project Skyvault to develop an aerospace propulsion system using intense beams of microwave energy similar to that used by the strange crafts seen flying over Area 51.

Using subquantum kinetics--the science behind antigravity technology--LaViolette reviews numerous field-propulsion devices and technologies that have thrust-to-power ratios thousands of times greater than that of a jet engine and whose effects are not explained by conventional physics and relativity theory. He then presents controversial evidence about the NASA cover-up in adopting these advanced technologies. He also details ongoing Russian research to duplicate John Searl’s self-propelled levitating disc and shows how the results of the Podkletnov gravity beam experiment could be harnessed to produce an interstellar spacecraft. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars various information with little practicle use
I read 1/3 of the book, and skipped around to places of various interest before losing interest.

I dont think the author knows how to teach, and I dont even think that is his motive, although it should be. If I was trying to reveal such wonderful stuff I would make it as basic and understandable and organized as I could, so that the average high school kid could read it with a little bit of thought (or if there was a certain level of knowledge in physics or math that was required to understand what is in this book, i would point out the right type of source to learn the prerequisites). That would help create more people that support this stuff. basically: since it isnt presented in an easily understandable manner it kind of grinds the credibility.

If you are looking for the type of knowledge that will help you build anything to demonstrate anything new and exciting, then forget it. If you are looking for various information that isnt neccessarily organized for any practicle purpose, besides to understand something you already understand better.... this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible, but seemed to be true....
Well, I have little idea about where should I start.

In any case, and after reading this very interesting book, I found an impressive amount of unknown data that I have enjoyed a lot. I began studying gravitics from a fusor, and finally reached Podkletnov experiment, who marked my life forever. The same subquamtum kinetics Paul explains, is mostly the same conclussions I obtained myself after 8 years of intense researching in the topic. Almost same conclusions are obtained, but in a different way, since, as engineer, I got just relativistic theory as a medium to write it scientifically. Right now I have another approach into the matter, and right now I know also tons more that I knew just a month ago, before reading this book.

I must thank Paul for his quickly reply when emailed him, and his kindly behaviour. Thats not the type of person that gives up so easily.

Personal thinkings away, I must admit that this book is "uneasy" to many ppl out there, and classic so called "scientist" inmediatly refuses this book's contents. I have got in some troubles because that, so not new to me already.

As someone else stated before, you must have a minimum of scientific knowledge to understand what this books tries to tell you (especially physics and math, since Paul tries to explain it the way he knows), and of course, and most important, a very open mind.

By definition, a scientist is an open minded person, so those who calls themselves such, should think twice before stating "stupidities" about the facts and the wrongs.

Movement is demonstrated moving out. The facts, in effect, are so persistant, that neglecting them is like neglecting oneself.

MEC,SEG, Electro-gravitics, what a wonderful new science insight. Book itself tells by its own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading
Wow.This book is awsome. For decades I have felt that Einstein was all wrong. Now I know it.This book is very technical and my not be for everybody. However, even if you're not an engineer or scientist, you will get a lot out of this. This should be required reading in every college engineering or science cirriculum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb, Outstanding, Mindblowing
This book thoroughly explains antigravity and everything that surrounds it.The author, Paul A. LaViolette, writes and explains the subject very well to the extent that every reader is capable of understanding the phenomenon. This book is definitively a must-buy for everyone that wants to have a deep knowledge in antigravity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this... and expand your mind.
Just check out the negative reviews. They are quite condescending to the would-be buyers... making it seem like anyone who buys and reads this book must be crazy kook who runs around with aluminum-foil hat on 24-7.

I see phrases like "woe to the misled imbecile" or "if you are stupid and proud of it, this is the book for you".I find these reviews insulting, but at the same time it makes me wonder if these reviews were planted here to dissuade a purchase.

I'm a science-minded professional myself, and I have many friends, colleagues, associates and clients who are scientists. All I can say is that the level of arrogance in the scientific community is astounding. What else could it be but complete ARROGANCE that makes people think that everything we know about science has already been discovered (and if we haven't discovered it, then it will fit neatly into a well-defined little box when we do)?

It's well known in scientific social circles that if you ever bring up the subject of UFOs, anti-gravity, aliens, "free energy" or any other "fringe science" topic with any seriousness, you immediately discredit yourself and any and all of your work. This is very sad, and because of this attitude we are holding ourselves back more than we realize... Seems a little bit like the "dark ages" all over again.

Yes, the law of conservation of energy is amazing, and makes everything fit into that neat little box... but, I wish the mainstream scientific community would expand it's mind a little. There is a lot more out there that is yet to be discovered. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Method of Programming Man
This is the first book I read that proved the connection of the UFO phenomenon with the wider spectrum of the paranormal, demonology, new age cults, creeds and eastern religious teachings.

The authors draw from the literature of various sources, including those on the occult side. Respectable UFOlogists such as John Keel and Jacques Vallee are also quoted heavily, and though their views are hardly what a christian would believe, their analysis of the situation is identical to the thesis of the authors'.

It's not that the authors take every encounter as fact or even at face value. It is the life changing aspect of the experiences that is important here. Contactees, abductees and those who have the classic encounters with spirit guides and walk-ins have been imparted with strikingly similar messages from these "aliens." The experiencers, in every case, are told by the entities that we are on the verge of a transformation and that we have to spiritually evolve in order to transcend onto the next level and become a God. Sound familiar?

Here's a few quotes:

--------------------------
"The number of contactees has risen dramatically in the last few years along with the increase in New Age and occult practices. We are seeing a parallel rise in both New Age and UFO phenomena. A New Ager who practices trance channeling says,

Very often UFO contactees are, by their own admission, individuals who have become disillusioned with the existing religious institutions. (In the western world probably Judaism or Christianity.)" (p. 110)
--------------------------
"The New Age, Eastern mystics, and UFO advocates preach an impersonal life force. Man is his own god. There is no need for a redeemer, for there is no sin. One may use meditative techniques to descend into the lower depths of consciousness and there discover the divine within." (p. 62)
--------------------------
"A New Age devotee just hasn't 'arrived' unless he has had contact with a 'spirit guide,' an 'ascended master,' a 'channeled entity,' or a 'space brother-ETI.' Contact is sought through meditation techniques, invocation, luciferic initiation, or by the laying-on-of-hands by a guru, channeler, or other New Age expert." (p. 153)
--------------------------
"The average citizen does not realize that a techno-occultic bill of goods is being sold to the public by some scientists, politicians, and entertainment personalities. The man on the street is gazing at the stars because he is being told by so many 'authorities' that not only is man evolving, but that there are other evolving civilizations more advanced than ours, and that some day we will be friends and partners with these aliens in a grand adventure in an upward process of evolution leading to godhood!" (p. 116)
--------------------------
"It is interesting that they twist or deny many important biblical truths. Why would supposedly evolved intelligences from other world's be so concerned about a local, unique religious manifestation? They should not be threatened by something we would eventually 'outgrow' as a race. The obvious answer is that the Bible makes their attempt to deceive us obvious. It thwarts their plans for mass brainwashing and takeover. They must deny the truth of the Bible." (p. 123)

3-0 out of 5 stars A plausible concept of end time events
Mr. Lewisand Mr Shreckhise make a good case for the possibility that UFO's and their related occurences are tools of satan. In principle I agree that this is a distinct possibility. Their case however is severely weakened in my mind by their credulous acceptance of all UFO reports as being totally factual in nature. Many of the reports they cite in their book have been shown to be either factually incorrect or downright hoaxes. For example, even the most ardent UFO believer will now admit that Travis Walton's abduction story is a fabrication or that Betty and Barney Hill's account does not stand up to close scrutiny. They also appear to accept as fact that regression hypnosis is a viable method to assist an individual to remember past events even though it has been shown that even if a person claims to have never seen a UFO he can still have the same memories of alien abduction when they are hypnotically regressed. Even though the book is flawed in these areas it would still make a nice addition to a library. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AnotherFirstRate Book
Another first rate book from Jerome Clark. Careful, considered and always entertaining.
What I especially like aboutthis work is the way he takes the old chestnuts--the Arnold story, the Mantell incident ,the Chiles-Whitted encounter and especially the1952 Washington flap and fleshes them out giving us details of the story in afresh new way. Kenneth Arnoldcomes across as an especially appealing character and the way his story is weaved together with the Maury Island hoax is very illuminating.
Someone on this sight criticized Clark's " lackluster" style and I can only think we were not reading the same book as I find his style taut, flexible yet full of the wonder of all this. Clark isan enthusiast butwith a critical mind perfect for sortingthewheat from the chaff sodifferent from those dessicated true believers like Menzel and Klass that the HARD scientistic types on this site love to cite for their rigor and objectivity. Thosetwoin particular had biases from before time was and it astonishes me they are still quoted as though theywere quiet, rational types. They were total debunkers as Clark points out. But I digress--In this particularbook Clark takes quite a lot of the familiar stuff and makes it really come alive and anyone who has really read a lot of the familiar lore before knows how not easythatis
Anyway--rational enthusiasts everywhere--buy this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Much New Here
Maybe I was expecting too much, but I was looking for some recent reports from commercial and military pilots that might have been originally suppressed and were recently released to Mr. Clark under the freedom of information act.Instead I got a rehash of older reports, the most recent being around 1986, most, if not all of which I had read about before.Starting long before the Kenneth Arnold sighting on June 4 1947, the book talks mostly about sightings that occurred 40, 50, and 60 years ago.The only surprise was that Mr. Clark on several occasions reported on incidents that were ultimately determined to be a hoax or misidentification of natural phenomena, which he readily acknowledged.I couldn't understand his reason for including them.Similarly he left many apparently good sightings, questioning their validity. I couldn't really tell if Mr. Clark was approaching this as a believer, skeptic, or debunker or whether he was merely relating what he knew.In any case there wasn't anything new presented, any conclusions drawn, and no revelations.

As latest generation of UFO books go I'd give this one a C+.It's a quick study of important cases for anyone new to the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strange Skys
It seems logical that if your seeking truth about things flying in our skys that you would ask people who fly there and know what kind and shape our Earth craft are. Also when judging distance from the ground or another moving object or speed of some thing encountered people who fly have the basic knowledge to find the answers much more so than some grounded person like me... The book was more than interesting... maybe spell binding.Like a movie .. you see things the second time you look and I'm now going to read the book again... PLEASE READ IT

5-0 out of 5 stars UFO's are real but what are they and where are they from?
I enjoyed the book it is well presented and edited. The book does not answer my question but that may not be possible.
Even if you don't believe that UFO's are from another planet it is interesting to see how others react to unexpected encounters with something that should not be there.
As a pilot, who once saw something I could not explain, I was fascinated by the book. If you think that UFO's are something made on this planet read the book it could change your mind, or even convince you that you are correct.
I have no doubt they are real I saw something that was impossible for me to explain. But that doesn't mean they were from another planet or galaxy. If we are making them then we have technology I've never even dreamed of.

3-0 out of 5 stars Never really gets off the ground
As a believer in UFOs, I found this book in the library and thought that it would be a fascinating read about pilot encounters with UFOs. Well, yes and no. Some of the cases presented were truly fascinating and others were ho-hum. It could be due to Clark's writing style. He doesn't really appear to care about what he writes. His style of writing is lackluster and the reading comes across as such.

For example, he will tell the story of such-and-such pilot; this is what he/she saw; the USAF investigated and came to so-and-so conclusions. OK. So what? Other stories, in which he appears to be interested, come across much better and exciting.

Clark gives me the impression of trying to dismiss what he writes, so I wonder why write a book if you don't really believe in the subject matter.

I thought the book would be much more interesting but it just never really takes off for my tastes. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth Reading
New frontiers and new incidents brought to the map. Similar in essence to already available books on the subject, however the presentation is responsible and more comprehensive. Solid evidence? Yes. Something totally new? NO. Worth reading? Absolutely!

2-0 out of 5 stars The book is stolen from Prof. Steven Greer
I am reading "Hidden truth - Forbidden knowledge" by Steven Greer, in which he explains how"The best available evidence "was actually written by him and then stolen from a people in the circle of Laurence Rockefeller. This is what Dr. Greer says in his book: " ....Around this same time, we had put together a series of documents that constituted what is called "The best available evidence". In the spirit of collegiality, I shared this openly as a work-in-progress with Laurence and with other people. It turned out that the 'woman in red' intercepted it, took Laurence Rockefeller's and one of CSETI' stalwart supporter's money and hired a writer within the UFO community. He then took it, rewrote it, put their name on it, copyrighted it and stole it from us. Later, when we tried to use it for further free and open briefings, she hired one of the biggest law firms in Washington and threatened to sue me! How nice... This after they stole the concept, including the title of the entire document. "

I still intend to buy and read the book, but am aware that is probably 85% stolen from Dr. Greer.

4-0 out of 5 stars An assortment of the best
After reading and watching most of the better books and DVD's ( some of the not so good also ) I must say that these are the highlightsof the cases that were really amazing to me and well documented that I had the pleasure to read.I can recommend this as a great book for those who would like a detailed over view of the best cases reported in my limted opion.

5-0 out of 5 stars UFOs Best Evidence
This book presents the best documented cases of the UFO History. After reading this book, it seems inevitable to reach the conclusion that UFOs do exist, and that many of them are machines with intelligently controlled behaviour.

The extraterrestrial explanation of UFOs is not covered in the book, but after reading the book, the extraterrestrial explanation certainly gets closer in credibility.

3-0 out of 5 stars A UFO Document: Serious Business
The author here has assembled an impressive store of official governmental releases pertaining to the UFO phenomenon from around the world. Most cases are visual & radar sightings that are compelling but very repetitive in nature. The author suggests that most governments are still covering up extensive evidence of extraterrestrial visitation to avoid public hysteria. His wish is for our government to really disclose all it knows about UFOs, but does not tell us what should be done beyond that. It would appear our civilization is "helpless" to affect the situation anyway, with or without all this undisclosed information... if what the documents say is true. ... Read more

Product Description

What is it about UFOs that speaks to people with an apparently religious intensity? In this uncanny and frequently eerie assessment of the world of UFO-logy, Gregory L. Reece travels deep into this alien mindset on a quest for the truth behind everything from Scientologists, crop circles, flying saucer crashes and alien abductions. With tales of a night in the Mojave Desert watching the night skies for flying saucers, a trip to Nevada's top-secret installation "Area 51" and a visit to the now infamous Roswell crash site, Reece provides an intelligent and humorous anecdotal account of his search for the answers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ufology-ology
Ufology can be considered a religion or philosophy that is ripe for independent study. Here Gregory Reece provides a readable and entertaining look at UFO beliefs throughout history, from well-known stories like Kenneth Arnold's close encounter in 1947 and the cult of Area 51, to the eccentric Yamassee Indian Tribe of Georgia. Reece's research method is based mostly on pop culture sources, and he does come up with some interesting breakthroughs, especially his coverage of the incredibly flimsy foundations of the vast Roswell mythology and some dirt on the bizarre upper levels of Scientology. But all that Reece has really accomplished is a compendium of eccentrics and eccentric beliefs, via a rather directionless parade of summaries of existing books (a couple of which even have "UFO Religion" in their titles). This is more of a book report than a systematic research project.

Granted, Reece's running theme is pretty good, in that UFO sightings throughout history, and the shifting community of cults and enthusiasts, could be a manifestation of mankind's inherent fear of the unknown and sense of powerlessness in the vast universe. But that theme is mostly delivered via sarcastic (though usually funny) remarks by Reece at the end of each sub-chapter summary. The true results of his exploration into psychology, religion, and philosophy are only given breathing room in a rather underwhelming six-page conclusion. This book functions as a long list of specific examples sprinkled with snippets of a theme, but a more successful study would have been constructed in the opposite fashion. [~doomsdayer520~]

5-0 out of 5 stars UFO-logy and its religious/cultlike qualities examined by author
UFO RELIGION gives us a insight into the desire people have to believe in extraterrestrials and how simple incidents have been distorted in the print media to foster and create an entire subculture and industry around alien life and UFOs. Going back to reports from the 19th century through to the infamous Roswell crash author Gregory Reece tackles the history and cult that has grown up around UFO-logy over the past sixty years.

The author who has an interest in philosphy and religion examines how and why Erich Von Dankien decided there was "evidence" that there were ancient airfields, that aliens "had" to built the pyramids (what we were incapable of building it ourselves? Humans must be a remedial form of life form)with humor and insight. The author also looks at groups such as Scientology, how concepts from 40's science fiction, Ufology and other belief systems were incorporated into it and influenced L. Ron Hubbard in creating hisbelief system for the followers of Scientology.

Reece has his atomic structure altered by a "device" created using alien technology, visits Roswell and Area 51 all in his attempt to understand how Ufo-logy has become a cult with an almost religious-like quality to it. What attracts people to the belief in UFO's, alien life forms with a religious intensity? Read Reece's book and he'll enlighten you on human behavior, history, how history has been distorted and how people have fibbed, created evidence and accepted questionable evidence to "believe".

5-0 out of 5 stars What Is your UFO belief?
The author of UFO Religion does not (always) know what people see in the sky, but it is (often) a connection between what people see and what they hope and fear. The book is interesting. You can read about UFO groups and UFO incidents. Another good UFO book from 2007! Five stars! ... Read more
