Product Description

The quest for extraterrestrial life doesn't happen only in science fiction. This book describes the startling discoveries being made in the very real science of astrobiology, an intriguing new field that blends astronomy, biology, and geology to explore the possibility of life on other planets. Jeffrey Bennett takes readers beyond UFOs to discuss some of the tantalizing questions astrobiologists grapple with every day: What is life and how does it begin? What makes a planet or moon habitable? Is there life on Mars or elsewhere in the solar system? How can life be recognized on distant worlds? Is it likely to be microbial, more biologically complex--or even intelligent? What would such a discovery mean for life here on Earth?

Come along on this scientific adventure and learn the astonishing implications of discoveries made in this field for the future of the human race. Bennett, who believes that "science is a way of helping people come to agreement," explains how the search for extraterrestrial life can help bridge the divide that sometimes exists between science and religion, defuse public rancor over the teaching of evolution, and quiet the debate over global warming. He likens humanity today to a troubled adolescent teetering on the edge between self-destruction and a future of virtually limitless possibilities. Beyond UFOs shows why the very quest to find alien life can help us to grow up as a species and chart a course for the stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond UFO's
A readable and interesting explanation of the biophysics aspect of astronomy for the non-specialist.It was way "Beyond UFO's", which I thought was a slightly misleading title.

4-0 out of 5 stars Is there hope beyond UFO's?
Beyond UFO's is one of the most well-intentioned popular science books I have read to date. But I feel the title may be a hindrance to achieving the author's goal as stated in his preface. Having written a textbook about the search for extraterrestrial life, the research he had done led him to a deeper realization of the related issue of life on earth, and the threats to that life being posed by our own ignorance. He firmly states his belief that the search for life beyond earth may help us overcome our "center of the universe syndrome"; that if we realize we are not special or unique in the universe, we might gain a more balanced perspective of our place in it, along with a heightened sense of responsibility to our home planet. He tells us that his goal was to write the book in a format that could be understood by anyone, in order to reach as many people as possible. The message is to be conveyed in terms of "real science". While he believes life elsewhere is likely, he is skeptical of claims that they have been seen here. So in the preface we are shown the philosophical framework of what follows. This is not a book that is aimed primarily at science sophisticates, and certainly not only to UFO enthusiasts. It's purpose is to raise the awareness of as many people as possible that contemplating this cosmic question of life brings us back to the need to act with maturity towards Earth. Unfortunately, if my response is indicative, these purposes are not conveyed very well by the title. When I saw the words "Beyond UFO's", my thought was that here was a book trying to out-sensationalize popular accounts of UFO crashes or abductions, perhaps by exposing some new form of alien manifestation. Since I am not of that persuasion, I almost reshelved the book when I happened to notice there were blurb recommendations on the back cover from people with scientific credentials, and decided to look further. Then I saw that the title meant going beyond the fascination with UFOs and making a truly scientific investigation into the likelihood of ET life. I found his comprehensive presentation of the inter-related issues of this subject to be both enjoyable and informative. It's true that someone who is jaded from reading many current popular science books would probably encounter a lot of old-to-them material. I am not that jaded, but I did encounter some familiar information from books I have read on evolution. However, I really did not mind the refresher, because my mind is not like a steel trap when it comes to retaining scientific learning. And while much or most of the material presented in this book may be elementary to a few savants, the vast majority of us could doubtless benefit greatly by reading what Mr. Bennett has so clearly laid out for us. His objective is not only to explain the search for ET life, but to promote the validity of scientific reasoning. He gives us basic criteria for recognizing whether ideas have scientific validity and shows that, according to these criteria, belief in either UFO's or Intelligent design cannot be properly called scientific theories. Then we are given guesstimates on the likelihood of Earth-like planets around other stars based on reasonable scientific assumptions. Further reasoning, using our knowledge of earth and the solar system as a guide, leads to estimates of the possibility of life, intelligent life, and, finally life that might have achieved interstellar travel. To reach these predictions we are escorted through lessons of biology, geology, evolution, and astronomy, as well as theories of star and planet formation. For my money, the author covers a lot of ground, does it understandably, bringing all the information together into a cohesive view of the universe as a place of marvelous generative and regenerative processes which favor the likelihood of life "out there". He often inserts the message into his text that humanity needs to grow up. I share his viewpoint, but have reservations that the irrationality demonstrated throughout human history can be discarded, even with the benefit of science and the quest for extraterrestrial life. Though Mr. Bennett has presented very reasonable statements about changes humanity needs to make -stop war, fight poverty, etc., I think his solutions may be somewhat idealistic. But that is for other readers to decide on their own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Jeff Bennett is one of our great science communicators, an astrophysics Ph.D. with an uncommon gift for rendering opaque subjects in compelling, accessible prose. With "Beyond UFOs," Bennett has achieved something special. The volume spans seamlessly topics as diverse as radio astronomy, molecular biology, geophysics and science history, building a convincing case for his belief -- and clearly his hope -- that life is pervasive in the universe.

Though a scientist, teacher and bestselling textbook author (The Cosmic Perspective, the nation's top introductory astronomy textbook, is also his work), his tone here is conversational, that of a favorite uncle describing something about which he wants you to share his excitement -- in this case the idea that life teems throughout the cosmos. With as many stars in the universe as there are grains of sand on all the world's beaches, who's to argue with him?

The more of this book I read, the more I felt it should be required reading. A quick stop by the book's Web site (www.beyondufos.com) shows that it already is. In 2008, Miami of Ohio made it their pick for their Summer Reading Program for 3,700 incoming freshmen. Miami made a wise choice. This book, in addition to being a great read, will change -- I think for the better -- the way you think about creation and your role in it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good SCience
I liked this bok a lot.It was a good review of science I had studied and for which I know needed an update.I first picked it up becuase it had "UFO" in the title. But got it becuase it promised more than just the same old, same old about UFOs.It puts a good perspective on the questions about aliens, and intelligent life.It reminded me of the vastness opf the universe and of our responsibilities to our own little piece of it.I receommend it to others.

3-0 out of 5 stars With much speculation
With much speculation and lots of generally known scientific facts. The factual information is generally known and accessible to anyone who has had a minimum of formal scientific exposure. The book is obviously written for the layman and uses a very elementary approach on the subjects of biology and astronomy. Perhaps this was the intended approach as a means of reaching a general audience. Do UFOs exist? Maybe, but probably not (he is a skeptic). Is there life elsewhere in the universe? There is a high statistical probability of this being true but maybe not (cf. 'Rare Earth' Argument). Conclusions?? Who knows?? I did not learn anything from this book and that was somewhat of a disappointment. I am sure the author is a fine textbook writer but I was not looking for a textbook. Also, There were no "astonishing implications" as advertised. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Ufo book Iever came across
This is an excellent book, once you start there is no way you want to put the book down. Simply stunning,no one has brought out frist hand information such as this, the details given tells one has to have been there. ....If you only read one UFO boook this summer make this one!!

2-0 out of 5 stars A Good Yarn
This is entertainment!Mr. Baldin names no sources other than a "document" he found at a garage sale; the rest is an example of a wild and wonderful imagination. He even gets the location of Area 51 wrong saying it's in Arizona.Actually, I really enjoyed this book, and was able to read it all in one sitting. However, until the author offers better souces for his information, for me, it's all "PULP FICTION."After I was done, I threw it in the garbage.

3-0 out of 5 stars In league with a UFO

for a movie script.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing exposure
We are not alone, and have never been.
The reality of those who are around us is beyond our comprehension.
This book settles many questions for me, after more than 40 years of questioning.
Read it if you want, the dimensions will challenge your understanding, and you may get a glimpse of what relationship we have with them; or what we are being related to grasp.
Water is simple. The writing is too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraterrestrial propaganda
Here we read a fascinating account of how the aliens claim to own us, and how humans willing to serve the alien collectives are used as a sort of bottom rung in their hierarchy. The story contains descriptions of alien methods and technologies which dovetail nicely with much of what is being written about by abduction researchers today.

At one point the aliens explain to one of their "chosen" humans that the aliens are intellectually advanced far beyond human concepts such as "good and evil,"but then go on to describe breakaway alien factions which don't cooperate with them in the main collective as "evil" ones.As researcher Karla Turner pointed out, these aliens are extremely deceitful if nothing else.

This book should be read in conjunction Marshall Vian Summer's books "The Allies of Humanity I & II," and with Turner's books "Taken" and "Masquerade of Angels" [...] ... Read more

Product Description
If UFOS don't exist, then they can't crash. But something did crash near Corona, a tiny town not far from Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. And that crash has been dissected and debated ever since. Aviation/science writer Don Berliner and nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, the original civilian investigator of the so-called Roswell incident, have delved into the controversy to find the truth. They sifted through once-classified government documents, interviewed military and civilian witnesses, pieced together evidence, considered alternative theories, and concluded that a UFO crashed near Corona -- and the U.S. government knew it and covered it up. "Crash at Corona" proves that what was found in the New Mexico desert wasn’t a weather balloon or a secret weapon -- it was a UFO. ... Read more

Product Description
The subject of this breakthrough book is controversial, but its message is simple: the study of UFOs merits the serious attention of the intellectual establishment. Advocating credibility for this much-maligned field of research, historian David Jacobs and his coauthors highlight some of the key events, issues, themes, and theories surrounding this elusive, complex, and compelling subject.

Whether interplanetary tourists, interlopers from a parallel universe, or mere misfirings in the brain, UFOs and "aliens" permeate popular culture. They've made the covers of Time, Life, and the New York Times Book Review; garnered CNN coverage; turned up on Larry King Live and other high-profile talk shows; attracted large audiences for films and television series; and swamped the Internet with thousands of websites and discussion groups.

Despite this pervasive presence, few scholars have been willing to study the perplexing phenomena behind these cultural signifiers. Wary of a field that seems tainted by suspect methods and outlandish theories, many have logically stayed away.

The relative lack of academic participation, however, creates a vicious circle that prevents the development of standards that would attract greater academic participation and, thus, credibility and funding for the field. Meanwhile, the phenomenon, rather than fading from public awareness, continues to grow and evolve.

In response, this volume provides a kind of primer for scholars, skeptics, and others uneasy about investigating this field. Its authors examine the nature of UFO "evidence"; discuss the methodological debates; incorporate research from science, history, mythology, and psychology; and highlight the reactions of the government and military from the Cold War to the present. It also brings together for the first time in one book three bestselling authors--Jacobs, Budd Hopkins, and Pulitzer Prize winner John Mack--widely known for their writings on the highly controversial "alien abduction" phenomenon. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good information summary from various investigators.
I read this book edited by David Jacobs, Ph.D. expecting good information on the UFO abductions phenomenon from different points of view. I was pleased to find that the book is an excellent source for anyone, such as me, to review data on this subject to be used within the bibliography of a written work on this scientific quest. The material is very straightforward, its bibliography is very good and the notes section at the end of the book is forty pages long with excellent explanations and extensive additional bibliography. Anyone who wants to read solid information on abductions free of sensationalism and with a scientific approach should have this book in his/her library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Overview of Ufology
This book offers a compendium of theses which decently portrays the UFO and alien abduction phenomena.

1)UFOLOGY AND ACADEMIA: THE UFO PHENOMENON AS A SCHOLARLY DISCIPLINE argues for the inclusion of the UFO mystery into the mainstream academia, which should be studying such things, but instead chooses to distance itself from the phenomenon. The debate has been relegated to the tabloid fringe, and respectable science won't go near it. This will need to change if we are ever to get to the bottom of it all.

2)LIMITED ACCESS: SIX NATURAL SCIENTISTS AND THE UFO PHENOMENON is a good primer on six important early ufologists, who laid the groundwork of how to study the phenomenon while government maintained its official position of denial. Some of these men worked for the government as public debunkers, while privately realizing that there is definitely something going on which offers no easy explanations.

3)SCIENCE, LAW, AND WAR: ALTERNATIVE FRAMEWORKS FOR THE UFO EVIDENCE debates which segment of society is most adept at studying the UFO phenomenon. Ultimately, science cannot move forward without tangible proof, which has proven elusive. Science requires data, not eyewitness testimony. The military offers the preferred framework from which to attack the mystery. After all, the objects appear in our skies, seemingly oblivious to our need for an explanation for them. The military must determine if there is a direct or indirect threat to the people it has enlisted to protect, while cloistering itself from public scrutiny.

4)UFO'S, THE MILITARY, AND THE EARLY COLD WAR ERA is a fantastic history of the public and militaristic mindsets of our country beginning with the mystery of the WWII foo fighters and into the Project Blue Book era. It is not surprising that the mysterious objects were first considered to be of Nazi design, and later, of Soviet design using captured Nazi technology. The concept that they were possibly of extraterrestrial origin came later. If the Soviets were showcasing high technology as psychological warfare, then the proper US response was to offer explanations that the objects were either hitherto unknown natural phenomena, or simply weren't there at all. Sounds familiar.

5)THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL HYPOTHESIS IN THE EARLY UFO AGE tells that when Gallup took a poll shortly after the war to gauge the public's opinion on the "flying saucer" phenomenon, it was discovered that most Americans considered only three options for the objects: Soviet design, American design, or hoax. The saucers as machinery of extraterrestrial origin was not even considered. Our government could exclude the American design option, and was left with Soviet or ET design. If they were of Soviet design, then we were facing an empire which was so technologically advanced that it is surprising they didn't whoop us.

6)UFO'S: LOST IN THE MYTHS offers evidence throughout the history of mankind for some sort of archetypical relationship between men and creatures of the spirit world. Whether speaking of gods, angels, devils, incubi, witches, or fairies, men of history have described entities outside of our reality which nonetheless are capable of interfering with our business. Are the Grays the latest manifestation?

7)THE UFO ABDUCTION CONTROVERSY IN THE UNITED STATES is written by David Jacobs. For decades, UFO's were strictly an eyewitness phenomenon. All the data was based on sightings and occasional landing traces, but any accounts of entities were dismissed outright. This changed in the mid-60's when the first accounts of abduction went public. Ufology was split, as the sightings experts distanced themselves from this new implausibility. Jacobs is convinced that the abductions are the main reason that the UFO's are in our skies. The reason for the abductions involves the use of human reproductive facilities to create transgenic beings of alien design. It sounds silly, but there is plenty of data to back up this claim.

8)HYPNOSIS AND THE INVESTIGATION OF UFO ABDUCTION ACCOUNTS is Budd Hopkins' refutation of the main knock against his investigative technique: the tendency toward confabulation between the interviewer and the subject during hypnosis. Everything Hopkins writes is genius and this is no exception.

9)HOW THE ALIEN ABDUCTION PHENOMENON CHALLENGES THE BOUNDARIES OF OUR REALITY is John Mack putting his Harvard brain to good use by intellectualizing the abduction phenomenon much more than the pragmatists Hopkins and Jacobs. Mack senses that we should not be trying to force the "aliens" into our preconceived notion of reality, but should recognize the existence of the aliens as proof that our notion of reality is incomplete.

10) THE UFO EXPERIENCE: A NORMAL CORRELATE OF HUMAN BRAIN FUNCTION presents medical data showing how easy it is to reproduce the "entity perception" by electrically stimulating certain areas of the brain. Electrical interference patterns can be "programmed" and sent through the skull, directly into the brain, which can dissociate the two lobes of the brain to a degree that the person will actually project into reality a second self. Side effects of this brain stimulation include the sensation of floating and odd smells, amongst other things that are par for the course in abduction reports.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good compilation on a complex and complicated subject
I liked reading Professor Jacobs' collection of articles on UFO's and abductions (he of course provides the intro and authors one article himself). As a whole the book exmaines from different angles and points of view the very compelling issues of what is going on with these phenomena and how we can perhaps best approach studying it. Almost all of the chapters are authored by researchers who demonstrate a great deal of knowledge of and insight into the aspect of UFO-logy they discuss.

I would recommend this book only to open-minded readers who have a rather dispassionate interest in the topic. I say this because as one of the chapters I discuss below depicts so well, most people are more concerned with the myth of UFO's rather than the real evidence. I also want to say that the Kirkus review at the top of this page is only too typical of those who want evidence when such "evidence" would never satisfy their preconceived version of reality. Prof. Jacob's compilation to me presents more than enough proof that this issue is real and needs to be seriously addressed by mainstream disciplines.

I will discuss four of the best chapters in "UFO's AndAbductions."

One chapter in what to me was a rather ironic argument style shows how among science, law, and military intelligence, science is the *least* qualified to investigate UFO's because the data does not fit into any scientific model, and scientists cannot operate w/o such. Because war and defense necessitate avoidingpreconceptions and simply examining the facts dispassionately, military intelligence is best qualified in the author's opinion. In my opinion the author did not go far enough, as I find the evidence that the military got technology from the ET's and gave it to industry very believable (Col. Corso's "The Day AfterRoswell", also "The Montauk Project" books).

Budd Hopkins' contribution is a thorough rebuttal to the skeptics'

strongly biased attempts to dismiss all abduction accounts as phony. The most salient point he brings out is that many abductees have very clear memories w/o undergoing any hypnosis. He also gives plenty of evidence that hypnosis of abductees does not produce the kind of false memories claimed by debunkers, such as the false memories "remembered" by "victims" of parental abuse.

Psychiatrist John Mack insightfully probes how the abduction phenomenon expands our concepts of reality, particularly the merging of the spirit and material worlds, which are kept separate by the current materialistic worldview. Dr. Mack also feels that the transformations that occur in the lives of abductees are genuine and significant. Of course Dr. Mack is very familiar from personal experience with how the mainstream disciplines react when a researcher attempts to provide evidence that threatens the current belief systems!

The longest and to me the best chapter in this book is called "Lost In The Myths," which is for the most part a brilliant discussion of first the many values of myths, and then how relevant it is to view the UFO phenomenon from the standpoint of these myths. For example, as we know from Joseph Campbell, story myths can be used to resolve some of the bizarre contradictions in life, so that the resolution is assimilated into the unconscious. UFO's in this context unite technology with magic, advanced science with angelic archetypes who will save a world on the brink of apocalypse (it always is, isn't it?!). The author also compares the transformations experienced by UFO abductees with those who have undergone shamanic initiations. Finally, the author rightly calls on science and the public to separate the myths of UFO's from their actuality, to study the evidence w/o the biases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Up To Date Look At Official Disclosure Worldwide
Timothy Beckley and company give a lot of "bang" for the buck in this up-to-date book/dvd combo. The book takes the reader around the globe and looks at major releases of former secret government files as well as thoughts on the matter from high ranking government and military officials. It also includes a DVD with 2, hour long each, interviews. One interview is with long time UFO researcher/lecturer/author Antonio Huneeus. In that interview, Beckley and Huneeus talk about their early days researching the phenomenon and also about interesting UFO cases over the years that have happened worldwide. Its interesting to watch two people discuss a topic they both are so familiar. The other interview is with an elderly gentleman, long time government employee (undisclosed intelligence branch of the Army), who has had several remarkable UFO sightings including sightings over D.C..

The book is a great resource as well as a great look at what nation has released what information as of 2010. It includes many web addresses of official declassified government UFO files anyone can now access. Of course, doing so is daunting. The UK released thousands of pages of UFO files. Again, the website where you can read the official documents is given, but some of the best cases, with "high strangeness" as well as military encounters are detailed in the book. The government web addresses of some of these cases outlined in this book is also included.

Besides the update on disclosure, it includes several relevant interviews/essays. Former UK MOD UFO desk officer Nick Pope has a chapter as well as Stephen Bassett, the UFO lobbyist. The chapter on U.S. Presidents and UFOs is very interesting. There is also an interview with the Black Vault website's founder John Greenwald. John, as a teen no less, in the 90s used the Freedom of Information Act to get declassified countless official U.S. documents on UFOs. I had done some web chat interviews with him back then, in the late 90s,and it was kind of funny to him and some of us that he had organizations like the Army, scrambling to find the documents he, a high schooler, was requesting.

I have been reading Timothy Green Beckley since an early teen in the early/mid 70s when he was writing articles for UFO Report magazine. I have always found "Mr. UFO"'s work to be top notch. He finds, gathers, and lays it out for you to decide. That's what he, Sean Casteel and John Weigle have done with this book. They pulled together, from around the world, official releases of government files, pulled out some of the more interesting cases, and added some interviews with people involved in the disclosure movement, movement to get nations around the world to tell their citizens all they know about UFOs. I can guarantee that this book is going to make you step back and think seriously that something/someone is visiting us. At least that is my conclusion. What's yours?

5-0 out of 5 stars More believable origin than Zeta Reticuli
"Projekt UFO" provided some great research material for a program I produced and hosted at Tsiyon Radio called "Flying Saucers a Sign?". This book presents a far more believable origin for flying saucers than Zeta Reticuli - with the added advantage of being real documented history. As you will see when you read this book, flying disk technology was conceived and developed right here on planet earth. In modern times the underlying scientific theory originated with Tesla in the 19th century. However, it took the pressures of WWII to cause the Nazis to explore the development of "wonder weapons" by which they might defeat an enemy of vastly superior numbers. The need for such weapons was largely responsible for NAZI openness to unique ideas and alternate scientific theories that were otherwise being overlooked. It was in this climate of highly funded and facilitated NAZI R&D that real flying disks went from theory to actual working proto-types under NAZI development. Unfortunately for the Nazis, but fortunately for the rest of us, the surging tide of the Allied advance overtook the Nazis before they could put their wonder weapons into production, bringing the NAZI war machine to a screeching and ignoble end. Soon a mad scramble was underway among the Allies to scoop up the futuristic technology along with the NAZI scientists, engineers and technologists that had created it. Beginning in 1945 the USA scooped up more than its share of these highly prized NAZI criminals, sanitizing hundreds (thousands?) of them via the ministrations of Operation Paperclip, to keep them working on the very same technology they had been developing over there - only over here instead. No sooner did the NAZI team get settled in at White Sands in New Mexico than abracadabra - flying saucers began to be sighted here! The technology has been kept "deep black" all these years through the use of the ET UFO cover story. How far this technology has been developed in the intervening years boggles the mind. Google "TR-3B" to get some idea of where billions of dollars and decades of time have taken this technology - no aliens required. Bottom line: read this book to get past the moronic "alien" cover story to the real history of man-made flying saucers.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Own" book for this topic
Pick up this reprint (with new info) while it's still available. I had the original and picked this one up too, to get the additional material... now I have a copy to share with friends.

If you're open minded about UFO's possibly being (at least some of the time) man-made, secret technology, this is simply one of a very few books you MUST own on the topic. I routinely see this book slagged by "UFO's are always driven by ET's" crowd because it doesn't push that theme, but I see no reason to toss out the ideas and research presented here based on a wish for alien life. Frankly, this is more believable and is rather well documented.

Well written, well edited (a rarity in this field), and if sometimes a bit dry, at least well documented... I've read it thru several times and always enjoy the re-reads.

If you're into this topic, read this and Nick Cook's vastly entertaining "Hunt for Zero Point" pronto. Also, Harbinson's hard to find Fiction novels on this topic are worth hunting down (the Projekt Saucer series). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Implausible Story
I offer no special expertise except I have a curious nature, am well read in science oriented subjects. I have a college education and have been interested in UFOs since I was 13. I can claim to have witnessed a UFO back in 1965 and it has allowed me to keep an open mind about the subject. I tried to avoid my inner bias when ascertaining the validity of such a book. Although I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about UFOs, this book had me gobsmacked. Boy, aliens are here, there, everywhere. The book is convincing about a government cover up and I am puzzled by the sheet of paper held by General Ramey back in 1947, that with modern photo enhancement technology revealed things about bodies and saucers at Roswell NM. There's the host of credible witnesses from Barry Goldwater to Gordon Cooper who report on an alien coverup. I sure would like to believe all the many assertions, but the second half of this book where all the alien revelations are made are so implausible I was wincing in disappointment. I was hoping some more credible truth about UFOs.

OK, Its hard to prove or disprove claims of alien visitations to Earth for the last 10,000 years or that they have been in communication with members of the US government. There's actually some anecdotal evidence for both. I've seen and read enough to keep an open mind, but I still find it hard to swallow that aliens are so integrated into the deeper layers of our secret government that for the last 50 yrs they have given us all sorts of alien technology goodies including 'sport model' saucers which run on anti-gravity engines. According to Mr Collins and Ricard Doty we now have the ability to travel in deep space and even time travel. Even though the 'Grays' are an advanced culture they seem to be fairly easy to manipulate in giving our secret government alien technology which is being reversed engineered as we speak. All the while, there are paranoid elements of our secret government who wish to use our new found technology to defend ourselves against our alien parents,so to speak. These sure are some gullible aliens. What planet are they from? Oh Zeta Reticuli! They must be from the planet where everyone always tells the truth. Our secret government has really pulled a fast one on these aliens. Another assertion is that Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer both met with an alien emissary back in the early 1950s. I would imagine had Einstein met with an advanced intelligent species that maybe he would inquire as to the nature of gravity or please enlighten a little about a Unified Field Theory, which he was working on for the last 30 yrs of his life. wheres the insightful alien equations showing us the way into the nature of reality? The authors site the fictitious interchange between Klaatu and Prof. Barnhardt in 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' as a recreation of a real event. Really? I've seen that movie a dozen times and as I recall the alien Klaatu wrote equations on the blackboard which astonished and enlightened the Einstein like character.

In spite of all these alien emissaries and alien technology, We are still grappling with trying to figure out what is gravity. Are there gravity waves or loops? How many dimensions are there out there? We're still looking. If we've had anti gravity engines for the last 50 yrs wouldn't we know a little bit more? We built that Hadron thingamajig to find the 'Higgs Boson' Us pitiful humans don't even know where matter resides, let alone gravity. I find it very implausible that given the assertions of alien knowledge being integrated into our secret tech projects, not a single shred of alien science has found its way into our own surface scientific community. Who would do the reverse engineering if not our brightest physicists? I would think some little insights about quantum physics would leak out, but it hasn't. Every single piece of science that humans have labored over and discovered was accomplished piece by tiny piece by humans. There is a minute physical record trail with all the proper credits given to those thousands of research scientists around the world with their millions of digital and paper pages of technical data who made those discoveries. Thousands of hours pouring over tons of data from colliders have given certain insights into the world of the very small. Yes, we have come a long way in the last hundred years and the discoveries and creations are wondrous, but they were generated by human sweat and intellect.
Oh, I still believe in UFOs, but for me the truth is still out there.
Its one thing to write a bunch of stuff in a book. Its another to demonstrate some special insight that hasn't been put forth by a human. Even the alien religion seemed unenlightened. A sure sign that the creators of this book lacked true insight or imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exempt From Disclosure: Reality Therapy!
As a twenty year plus, professional psychiatric therapist who has had to deal with clients convinced they have been "abducted" Robert Collins book is a provocative tool for becoming educated in the UFO field of study! I have recomended it frequently to clients who believe they have experienced this phenomenon. As a result, some are able to quickly discern that their experience must be something other then an abduction and look for more plausible explanation.

For those who insist that their own experiences are similar to events described in the book, clients now have the vocabulary and reference points to get an emotional handle on the issue and research even further about similar events.

"Exempt From Disclosure" is far from being a college level "survey" of relevant material. The style and language used is clear enough, but to really understand it properly the reader should have a science back ground or at least strong aptitude.

Well written, well documented, with a deep personal commitment to accuracy, Robert Collins has left no stone unturned capturing the truth about the UFO phenomenon. "Exempt From Disclosure" is in a category by itself. I consider this book to be a corner stone for UFO research and a reference by which future work should be considered.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Book
Collins and Co. have hit a homerun with this one.Much of this is backed up with very specific details, in regards to hard evidence, interviews, and a sort of connecting the dots if you will - from point A to B to C, etc.

Please note that this book isn't for the beginner in this area. There is quite a bit of detailed reading to go through in the early part of the book mostly relating to The Key Players. So I would suggest taking some time here and take your own notes so you know who's who. Also, a background in the military and/or science would be helpful. If just starting out, I would suggest a more basic book. Then maybe get Corso's book, then this one. This step process will really help the reader become prepared for what is in this one.

Section III is particularly good as it talks about Wright-Patterson AFB, its underground vaults, and how they are involved in the processing of recovered debris both biological and non-biological.

It should be noted the WPAFB was/is a place that the US military use to take and reverse engineer Soviet and German technology. So it makes sense that non-terrestrial technology may go here as well to be examined? You decide.

There are also many pictures and diagrams to review along with multiple internet web links and email addresses noted that are still valid! This helps to provide further support.Other things discussed are: Los Alamos National Labs (LANL) and what is going on there, details of captured craft/discs, their inner workings, size, and propulsion systems, Area 51, S4, EBE Visitor J-Rod, and the Project Serpo Human-ET exchange program. So much to analyze and go through. This book should be the keystone to any UFO book collection in this field of study to date.

On a final note:I completed all other reading in this field before tackling this book.I had heard really good things about it and wanted to make sure that I was up to speed as much as I could be before starting. Also, as for the EBE picture on the front cover; I find most pictures of extra-terrestrials not quite right, something always seems off; askew. Not so with this.I believe this photo to be real. There are multiple reasons for this conclusion that I don't need to go into here. However, this photo is one of the best.Exempt From Disclosure is a must A+++.

Curious about "The Aviary," a group of men, who, during the mid to late 1980s operated mysteriously behind the scenes to disclose UFO secrets?Collins, aka "Condor," was part of the flock!Who were/are the almost mythical MJ-12, and what role have they played in this UFO scenario? If you want the answers to these questions and many more, you'll find them in Section I of Exempt from Disclosure.
Want to know more about the roles played by the various spy-masters throughout the past few decades?Who are the Men-In-Black, and are they just heroes in Hollywood movies or do they play a more sinister role in this evolving scenario?Read Section II of Exempt from Disclosure and you'll find out.
Senator Barry Goldwater once said, "I think at Wright-Patterson, if you could get into certain places, you'd find out what the Air Force and the government does know about UFOs.Reportedly, a spaceship landed. It was all hushed up.I called [Gen. Curtis LeMay, the Air Force Chief of Staff and a close personal friend] and I said, 'General, I know we have a room at Wright-Patterson where you put all this secret stuff.Could I go in there?'
I've never heard General LeMay get mad, but he got madder than hell at me, cussed me out, and said, 'Don't ever ask me that question again!'" Read Section III of Exempt from Disclosure and you'll find what LeMay was hiding--and where!
Robert Collins, a retired USAF captain assigned to the FTD (Foreign Technology Division, headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH), with contributions from Richard Doty, assigned to the AFOSI (Air Force Office of Special Investigations) and Timothy S. Cooper, recipient of many of the controversial MJ-12 papers, rips the shroud of secrecy from the spymasters at the deepest levels of our government in this book, Exempt from Disclosure.
Collins weaves an impenetrably fine cloth that blankets the field of UFOlogy, starting with the Roswell Incident of 1947 up to the current era.He pulls no punches, and backs his story with dozens of photographs, maps, and eye-opening documents.
An insider's insider who knew what was going on behind the closed doors of Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL) where aliens were cloistered; an intelligence agent who walked the tightrope between our world and the black world of utmost secrecy; and a man who receives hundreds of pages of corroborating documents that confirm the dreaded fear--DISCLOSURE--of those who spent their entire lives hiding these secrets from us; Collins, Doty, and Cooper are heroes in the truest sense.
Exempt from Disclosure is extensively footnoted and includes websites directing you to further eye-popping revelations about this fascinating, and until now largely hidden, world of UFOs and our government.
I highly recommend it to every serious scholar who wants to learn more about the interrelationship of the Intelligence Community and UFOs.

3-0 out of 5 stars A question or two...
1. Why were the notes not cleaned up for publication ?
a writer with a 9th grade education? orwere theyput in for a touch of "authenticity"?
ill grant the writer may have been so blown away or disoriented while writing his diary-that it wasirrelevant to him-at the time
2.*But surely an advanced civilization would know about time, physics and wormholes? and that all 3 million known dimensions are sitting right here in front of us-right now- just step on through the door to the next "room"-its just that WE dont know HOW to see them or the door yet (or at least we didnt PUBLICLY know this back in the 50s & 60s)
Why take 9 months of boring sickeningpokey warp 7 travel when it can be done almost instantaneously via wormhole or time loop singularity?
clue: such subjects were unknown when this was written-hence the author(s) could hardly have suspected that this story was going to be rendered obsolete by OUR new discoveries in Physics;
Or-maybe the Ebensjust discovered wormholes in the last 50 years-or better yet -they didnt want earth people to get wise to the fact that the meter was running on the voyage there and back -OR maybe God hadnt invented them yet
ALL unlikely
2a; 10 years seems like an awfully long time to impose on hosts- or onto mission volunteers;
And time dialation-we all know from many episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE that while ONE yeargoes byon SERPO for the team-1,000 have passed on Earth
The place would probably be deserted-poisoned by radiation war etc etc when the mission returned--or theyd meet their sons/daughter's offspring 3 (cubed)-at least-but maybe the Ebens have allowed for that-yet they take 9 months to get home-go figure
3. Why is anyone remotely connected with this still alive and breathing?
THEY kill to keep this knowledge secret;
ie no auto or small plane 'accidents', being pushed out of 10th story windows, found hanging in a cheap motel, hands tied behind back, family threatened, publisher raided etc etc etc
Granted the 'Intelligence' agencies can be as full of bunglers and unreliables as any other profession
4. Several notes I read regarding this info show the authors UNDUE concern that this information should FINALLY oughta convince the DIEHARD DEBUNKERS;
a. Secret Gov Mission personnel could care less
b. UFO -logists know it is a lost cause to try to win the non believers

I dont invalidate that some of this book may be true-BUT....
it dont all smell kosher ... Read more

Product Description
Flying Saucers and Science is a comprehensive look at the scientific data on the flying saucer phenomenon. Nuclear physicist and lecturer Stanton T. Friedman has distilled more than 40 years of research on UFOs, and shares his work on a wide variety of classified advanced nuclear and space systems. He answers a number of physics questions in layman's terms, and establishes that travel to nearby stars is within reach without violating the laws of physics.

Photographs of little known, far-out advanced propulsion systems, on some of which he worked, are included. Friedman also presents data demonstrating the ability to withstand high accelerations with some surprising results. He clearly shows that government policy on this subject has been to provide false, misleading claims and disinformation, and establishes that the subject truly represents a Cosmic Watergate.

Flying Saucers and Science presents intriguing data from a number of large-scale scientific UFO studies that almost no one, especially the noisy negativists, has discussed in detail. It deals with a host of "why" questions such, as reasons for the cover-up, reasons for aliens to come to Earth, and reasons for not landing on the White House lawn. Friedman unveils the SETI program, and details the antipathy of science-fiction writers to UFOs and other mysteries of the saucer conundrum. False notions about those who believe in the reality of alien visitors and the adequacy of coverage by the journalistic and scientific communities are reviewed.

In this book you'll discover:

* What type of energy and technologies could provide travel

* between the stars.

* The most likely locations in the universe where aliens come from.

* Why the aliens are here.

* Who believes in the flying saucer phenomenon.

* The government's motives to cover-up.

Readers of Flying Saucers and Science will never feel the same about UFOs again. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A fresh approach to the subject with some good sound science for the non-scientific reader
Stan Friedman has been a tireless researcher and campaigner on the subject of UFOs for the past 40 years, originally from NJ USA but for many years now a refugee living in Canada. In his mid-70s when most people are content to retire he continues to work a busy lecturing circuit and is still a prolific writer on the UFO subject. With this book he again proves he can come up with a fresh and original work with a sound science basis but explained in simple terms for the not-so scientific reader.

The book assumes most readers will be familiar with the enormous quantity of evidence for anomalous things seen in the sky, and the huge library of (often severely retracted) documents Stan has obtained through his tireless research over the years variously from the CIA, NSA, DIA, US Navy and many other agencies attesting to the reality of the UFO phenomenon as of non-human origin and of great concern to 'National Security.' Real public attitudes to the idea of UFOs as of ET origin might surprise the reader unfamiliar with the material: from scientific public opinion polls and from straw-polls taken at hundreds of lectures over the years it appears certain that a majority of the population of the western world accepts the idea of UFOs as of ET origin, and that the more highly educated the person the more likely they are to accept the ET hypothesis. About 10% of the population of the western world admit to having a personal sighting - a huge number - and most people questioned have a family member or other close friend or trusted person who has had some kind of interaction with the phenomenon.

Friedman spends a chapter discussing the principles of near-light or faster-than-light propulsion systems of various types (nuclear fusion and the like) from his own professional work in the field and from the current opinion-leaders in the physical sciences. From a less talented writer this might have been overly technical and dull, but not from Stan: it's lively, informative and interesting even for a non-scientist.

One of the author's oft-used phrases for the international government cover-up is 'Cosmic Watergate', originated by Friedman and now used by other writers in the field. The reasons why this might be perpetuated are intelligently speculated about, and Stan, like this reviewer, considers possible concerns about public panic and social dislocation on revelation of an ET presence to be out-of-date and misplaced. If 'disclosure' were to happen, most people's attitude would be 'well we all knew anyway; about time you came clean on this. Now what's for dinner?'

Friedman takes on so-called 'skeptics' very effectively and presents the blinkered thinking of SETI advocates as a kind of cult, restricted by cultic belief-systems about what ETs are supposed to do and not do whilst studiously ignoring the evidence that they are, in fact, already visiting us. He also, unusually for a writer on the subject, has a chapter on science fiction and the surprisingly narrow and non-scientific public attitudes professed by writers such as Asimov and Clarke.

Two connected areas of research where Stan has focussed a great deal of effort over the years are the 1947 Roswell (Corona) crash and recovery, and the MJ-12 documents. Each of these has been the subject of a whole book from the author in the past, and a chapter is devoted to an up-to-date synopsis of the evidence for each where again, the focus is on the hard evidence and of the battles with debunkers and detractors. The great thing about Stan is that he knows his stuff, and leaves no stone unturned.

Overall I would rate the book four stars and recommend it to the interested reader. Reading this book is time well spent: it does not regurgitate the same old case reports (unfortunately all too common in this field) but is genuinely fresh with a lot of (to this reviewer) new information. Why not five stars? A bit too much focus on arguing against the ignorance of debunkers, for though I understand why the author feels as strongly as he does about detractors over the decades it's less engaging for the reader to be talked through all the arguments again.

Stan is a good writer, and this is a good book with an original perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good read
Stanton Friedman is the king of UFO books, the king of Roswell and MJ-12, I would say. This book is from 2008. There is a lot of interesting information here. Thanks to the author!

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Book/Nice Job
Listening to C2C, and by reading other UFO books, I became familiar with Mr. Friedman's work - He is one of the best researchers out there in the UFO world - And has doneallot of hard work to help the "cause".This was my first reading of Mr. Friedman's work, and I congratulate him for putting things in lame mans terms. He is bringing more clarity to us interested in the UFO world. His book cleared up some of the mystery surrounding the MJ-12 Docs., provided me with some of the basics of his field of nuclear science, who some of the key government players are/were, and some additional information on Roswell. However, a great deal of the book (in my opinion) was spent addressing "debunkers, The Press and "science fiction writers" and their harsh views on ufology. - Which I really didn't care about "them" anyway - (Debunkers, the Press, Science Fiction writers and alike). I would have liked to have seen some more "NEW" information, or additional clarity to "OLD" information, and less time spent on the aforementioned parties. To that end, I greatly appreciate this book, and would recommend it to anyone interested in the field of ufology - It is yet one more piece of the puzzle or for those interested in this field. - Thanks Stan, and be rest assured I will be picking up a copy of your book adressing the Betty and Barney Hill story!I look forward to your future work!

5-0 out of 5 stars STANTON WINS
This is the real deal folks.
The data is solid and the author is the best at what he does.
Done deal...if you read it here, it happened out there.
At this point, to doubt is to hide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Friedman Does It Again
A great book, right up there with other offerings from Friedman. I almost did not buy it because of some of the negative reviews posted here, but I am glad I did. After reading this book, I was left scratching my head at the negative reviews, but then realized the driving force behind them.

Friedman, among other things, takes many UFO debunkers to task here, including those idiots behind SETI, and shows how useless their work really is. Taxpayer money is being wasted on SETI, and the knuckleheads earning a living off this travesty will say and do just about anything to keep their jobs. The American public really needs to read this book to see how their money is being flushed down the toilet. Friedman also blasts the mainstream media for doing a poor job over the years of covering the UFO phenomenon. If somebody from the Washington Post or New York Times were to spend half as much time on the UFO subject as what was expended on Watergate, the lid on what Friedman calls the "Cosmic Watergate" would have long been removed by now. Oh yes, Friedman steps on a lot of toes here and it is easy to see why so many people got their undies in bunches over it. The truth hurts.

This a great, great book that will be cussed and discussed for years. If you want to be enlightened on UFOs, this book is a must buy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of sightings from late 1800's to 1960's
The book is laid out in a logical manner, and is told from a historical perspective. All the major and famous sightings are there, although some aredetailed in a brief way.One thing I appreciated about the book was the readability, the text flowed smoothly and was entertainingly told.

A drawback is sightings from the 1970's onward are sketchy and only very briefly covered if they are covered at all.The bulk of the book concentrates on the time period of the late 1940's through the early 1960's.

Recommended if interested in sightings from this time period. ... Read more

A group of Andromedans visited a University of Mexico professor of physics and atomic energy, Professor Hernandez (not his real name), in the 1970s and early 1980s.He was given highly technical information on a method to manufacture a shield around any jet plane, which would then allow pilot and passengers to fly to Mars—or whatever planet or star they wanted to reach— in comfort and safety. But because of where and how the professor lived, the times and other factors, he was not able to use this incredible information. After many visits from the ETs and an expansion in consciousness, he was committed to a mental institution.Shortly after he was released, he was last seen sitting in a park near his home in his walking shorts reading a newspaper. He never returned to his home that day—he disappeared forever. His journals were taken and the information from the Andromedans was never made public.

Before he was forced to enter the mental institution, the professor had talked to a UFO researcher in Mexico, Ms. Zitha Rodriguez, and she had written down what he said in shorthand.Unfortunately, when she came to transcribe her notes, she did not understand the scientific words and so was unable to re-create exactly what the professor had told her.Nevertheless, she published what she had. Then Wendelle Stevens transliterated the Spanish of Ms. Rodriguez’s book into English and published it in his UFO Contact series to make the information available to the public.

Now, speaking through superchannel Robert Shapiro, the Andromedans who contacted the professor tell us what really happened. They give instructions for the shielding technology so that scientists who have the background can use it.They also clear up all the questions one would have after reading the Spanish or English book and supply a lively account of their lives and other adventures they had when they came to Earth. Each crew member of the spaceship speaks: Leia, the scientific liason, the two scientists—and then, as an extra treat, Leia's daughter and her playmate contribute to the story. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What do the Andromedans suggest
Since this is a channeled report by Robert Shapiro, it reveals more clearly the thoughts and ideas of the Andromedans than a human scientific explanation. Sorry, but information from certain psychic realms seem to leapfrog today's science which deals only with what we can see or feel or hear with our physical senses. Andromedans would be considered a benevolent extraterrestrial species who are also very highly technological and spiritually developed. A lot of what they expound goes beyond what Billy Meier's Plejarens have released to him. Like most space travelling extraterrestrials they are a telepathic race, and their story illustrates a definite order and structure of their civilization.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book of the bunch on Bentwaters?

This book, originally published in 1997, is one of several written about the famous Rendlesham Forest/Bentwaters UFO incident in December 1980, and possibly the most interesting of the bunch to read.

Repeated encounters with UFOs were reported over three nights (25-28 December) in 1980 at, over and near the twin RAF bases of Bentwaters and Woodbridge, large neighboring airfields in Suffolk leased for several decades from the UK Government by the US Government and at that time hosting USAF nuclear strike aircraft and nuclear weapons. Larry Warren was at the time a young airman stationed at Bentwaters, and claimed to be present during the third night of encounters when an unknown craft actually landed at Capel Green and was surrounded by USAF ground personnel - incidentally off-base carrying loaded weapons, specifically against a signed agreement between the UK and US governments.

It is only fair to say that some controversy surrounds Warren and his outspoken claims, and he has been accused in recent years by former Air Force colleagues of being "economical with the truth." In short, it's been claimed by Deputy Base Commander Charles Halt that Larry wasn't on duty that night and personally witnessed nothing. Certainly his claims about being forcibly detained in an underground facility under the base and subjected to mind-indoctrination following the incident have been questioned with good cause, and minor details of his story have allegedly changed over the years. However, something very serious involving unidentified flying objects intruding over this nuclear-weapons holding NATO facility and "adversely affecting the ordnance", of long duration and with multiple military and civilian witnesses, did happen as reported beyond dispute. The sheer number of witnesses, the physical effects on some of the airmen (damaged retinas due to the brightness of the light in one encounter, including Larry Warren, medically certified) and the incriminating quantity of official paperwork generated between the base command and the UK government subsequent to the incident make this a certainty. Furthermore, multiple witnesses testify that some kind of formalised communication took place between "extraterrestrial biological entities" from the landed craft and senior USAF personnel, who seemed prepared for the encounter and to know exactly what to do.

The book is co-written by Warren and respected researcher Peter Robbins. Warren's narrative in the first part of the book relates his life story up to, during and after the incident and is candid about his values and motivations. He was from an early age something of an anglophile and was delighted to be posted to Bentwaters in England, where he hoped to enjoy his tour. He also reports serial family encounters with High Strangeness and sounds like a serial abductee, the understanding of which phenomenon may require a certain amount of separate study by the reader and acquaintance with the published work of Harvard Professor John Mack, researcher Budd Hopkins, Professor David Jacobs and Raymond Fowler, to name a few. This situation complicates his narrative even more, as well it might.

Robbins' authored sections of the book are printed in italics to differentiate from Warren's, which are written in normal type. The narrative tells the story of their joint investigation, all self-funded from meagre resources, through some fourteen separate visits to the UK (both the authors were US-based by this time) and the journey which led to the writing and publishing of the book. The style is pacy, interesting and engaging, and the editorial decision to tell the tale in story form succeeds in making the book something of a page-turner as the reader shares their struggles, tribulations and the excitement of discovery. It's a very enjoyable read - the type of narrative from which film scripts are made. This is not to diminish the serious content, the thoroughness and persistence of the research, nor the disturbing conclusions. Larry and Peter invested a great deal of time, effort and personal resources in pursuit of the truth of this most important event, and the first edition of the book was famously brandished in the British Parliament during a session demanding answers from the government on the defence implications of the incident.

The hardcover edition contains 16 pages of relevant monochrome photographs and an extensive index of scanned/photocopied documents in support of the truth of the incident. There is also an interesting section about the employment of Wilhelm Reich's controversial cloud-busting technology (one of Robbins' areas of specialist research knowledge) at Bentwaters by the USAF.

Interesting postscript: in September 2009 I was honored to be given a guided walking tour of Rendlesham Forest and Bentwaters (now converted for civilian use) by Peter Robbins, on a splendid late summer Sunday afternoon, including the site at Capel Green where the landed craft had left a large circular area of dessicated soil on which nothing would grow for several years and from which Peter took his soil samples for analysis in Massachusetts. The local council in Suffolk now marks the walking trails with numbered square wooden marker posts, each of which sports the small image of a bug-eyed grey alien head. Nice touch.

Of the many books written about this incident, one other is definitely worth reading: the late Georgina Bruni's "You Can't Tell the People" (a direct quote from then PM Margaret Thatcher talking personally to the author about the ET issue). If you read both books, you'll have a good all-round understanding about the 1980 Bentwaters Incident. I don't want to denigrate other books on this subject, but none are as good as these two.

3-0 out of 5 stars So-so...
A bit long winded and wordy, but the overall story is one I have been interested in for some time and one I think it may have produced some of the most convincing evidence as of yet to our planets interaction with beings from another dimension or planet, and one that also sheds light on the ability of the governments of our world to cover up anything that they do not believe is suitable for civilian knowledge. Definitely an interesting read, but requires some patience at times :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Compelling
This has to be one of the best UFO books I have read in some time. Both authors need to be acknowleged for the amount of time and effort that was put into this work. There were certain things that truly stood out to me. First of them being the military's involvement in everything. Instead of admitting anything, it's so much easier for them to change facts, alter history by destroying or hiding documentation and if it's fairly obvious they were involved, show how it was someone else's fault and they were merely observing events. This is truly one of the most well documented UFO cases in the history of our society.

4-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Go Far Enough after the Turn
Coauthor Peter Robbins sums it up nicely in the last three sentences of the book."This story is far from over.In fact, it's just beginning to get interesting.Believe it, my friend."And with that the book quits, it doesn't end, it just quits. In fact it quits before the end several times.Like when Bud Hopkins is regressing Larry Warren about his abduction to an underground base. The book talks a lot in several places about this experience, and when the reader gets to the regression and thinks, "now, I'm going to find out the truth," Larry says he doesn't like this and wants to get out of this mode.So Hopkins brings him back and says they'll go further another time, which of course they don't.

Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt claims to have a different version of Warren's service records which indicated Warren wasn't even on the base at the time of the incident. After numerous telephone conversations they go to all the trouble to set up a meeting with Halt in Washington, DC, to show Halt Warren's copies of his service record, and then never ask Halt to see the version of Warren's service records that he had received from his government inquiries. This seemed inexcusable for a serious investigation to me.Close to the end of the book Robbins offers a weak excuse for not pinning Halt down.

Regarding contributions to the book, Warren was the person who had the experience in Rendlesham Forest.Robbins is an investigator and a writer. Both authors contribute chapters to the book; Robbins' contribution is all printed in italics making it somewhat difficult to read. The two writers at times give two views of the same event.

A lot of the book deals with their experience in writing the book, and the impact that the event and the book had on both of their lives, and the lives of their families and friends. While interesting at times, it contributed little toward presenting their story and explaining what occurred in Rendlesham Forest in December of 1980.

The book is really unique in that much of it is direct, unedited transcriptions of recordings made of individuals that Robbins had interviewed or had conversations with. Some if the dialog doesn't make sense and reading it is really tedious.

The book talks about the audio tape that Lieutenant Colonel Halt made during the third night's close encounter of the third kind, and since the reader has to plod through transcript after transcript of other tape recordings, one would assume that the bomb shell will be the transcript of Halt's tape.Alas, it never happens. No transcript, only Warren's recollection.Disappointing.

A little more editing might have made the book flow more smoothly, but it is easy to follow.

On the positive side this book is probably the best, most detailed, albeit somewhat fragmented, account of the Bentwaters - Woodbridge UFO incident that I have read so far, and a lot less expensive than Georgina Bruni's, "You Can't Tell the People" ($49.99) or Sir Peter Horsley's, "Sounds from another Room" ($26.37), both of which are said to address the subject.

As Warren relates the incidents he does so in a manner that takes the reader along through the experience with him. There are parts of the book that move rather slowly, but also many parts where you can't lay it down, and there is no doubt that Airman Larry Warren experienced something extraordinary that night in December 1980.Something real, tangible, and significant happened that night, the craft observed was not known to local British or American military authorities, and that the governments of both nations have stifled all attempts obtain information, explain the incident, and to honestly inform the public about exactly what took place.

Sadly there is no single explanation for the incident. No answers, no smoking gun, no exposure of the reason for the cover-up, only more questions, and more apparent cover-ups, to which readers of UFO literature should have now become accustomed.I would really like to know however, why Deputy Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt chose not to write the forward to the book.

The book has numerous black and white pictures and several sketches, and if the events related here are true, the book represents a very important work about an event that rivals Roswell in importance, and deserves an even more in depth study.

If you enjoy reading and searching for the truth on this subject, "Left at East Gate" is a worthy addition to your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spooky, Riveting, Comprehensive, and Strange
Warren and Robbins raise a lot of questions in this narrative of Larry Warren's experiences at R.A.F. Bentwaters base in late 1980. Reading this book leaves you feeling no doubt that something of extreme importance happened to at least twenty military policeman at the base over the course of three nights. There were local witnesses from outside the base also who observed strange light anomalies in the area during those nights. What really happened at Bentwaters? We don't know exactly but something related to UFOs occurred there leaving indelible, bizarre memories in the witnesses.

Reading this book makes you sympathize with experiencers like Warren who have nowhere to go to share their experiences. They are subject to ridicule, psychological stress, and threats from the military and government black operations. Surely, we as a society can do better than the type of treatment Warren received. After all, when he went out to that remote clearing in the woods that fateful night, along with his comrades, he was doing his job which was to protect the base, one of the largest storehouses of U.S. nuclear weapons in Europe.

This is the most complete book on the Bentwaters case and vividly demonstrates the need for us to get to the truth about UFO phenomenon. The book is somewhat rambling at times but covers every aspect of Warren's encounter in detail. Coauthor Peter Robbins adds a voice of credulity to the whole affair. Overall, this book will inform you, make you mad, and leave you curious and wondering how large our universe really is and who inhabits it with us.

Product Description

In 1982, a movie producer received an anonymous roll of film containing a series of alleged thirty-year-old government documents relating to the U.S. government's top-secret "Majestic Twelve" project. The "MJ-12" papers contained shocking revelations about the existence of UFOs, including a briefing paper prepared in November 1952 for then-President-elect Dwight D. Eisenhower detailing the crash of an extraterrestrial spacecraft near Roswell, New Mexico.

After decades of speculation, investigation, and innuendo, evidence now suggests that the MJ-12 papers were no more than an elaborate hoax ... or were they?

One of the world's most respected ufologists, Kevin D. Randle, Ph.D. set out to discover the truth behind the most remarkable controversy of the twentieth century. The secrets his in-depth investigation revealed will shock and astonish you, and perhaps change everything you have ever believed about the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Case MJ-12 is a practical and logical analysis of the issue. A good read.
This is a very practical analysis of the MJ-12 issue without unwanted speculation and rumor that clouds many books. The authors attention to detail and his ability to disect actual protocol with regard to military and political practices is very well presented. I agree with his asessment of the MJ-12 case because of his dedication to logic and truth.

1-0 out of 5 stars ugh
There isn't much new information in this book. Certainly not one of Mr. Randle's best books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Take a dive in Ufology's dirtiest mudd puddle
The author concludes that the MJ-12 documents are fake... old news really. The only question is why this debate lasted for so many years? These documents should've been laid to rest a long time ago, Ufology has only LOST credibilty because of them. It's time to move on, and get out of the 1940s and 1950s. Seems like every UFO book today is about events from 50 years ago. Geez, where did the aliens go? I don't really care anymore, reading all these conflicting UFO books has turned me into a cynical nihilst. Obviously official "science" could care less... so why should I? And obviously religious people think UFOs are from Satan, so why should I care to get to the "truth" of the matter, everyone's mind is already made despite the "evidence".

Truthfully, I didn't read the entire book, I read the last chapter titled "Conclusions", and I skimmed through several other areas, but all I needed to hear was at the end.

On the bright side, this is a fine book if you're interested in the subject, or looking for a good sober analysis on MJ-12. Don't let my review hold you back from getting the book.

Well, of course it ain't over yet, I hear Stanton Friedman is gonna sell his 16? page review on this book. Time to muddy the water, again... it's money thrown down a bottomless pit. We probably haven't heard the last on MJ-12.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Roswell ... Or Just Out Of Grasp?
Kevin Randle has made a cottage industry out of being the world's foremost expert on the alleged UFO crash at Roswell, New Mexico. While his two books focusing entirely on the events surrounding one of the cornerstones of America's growing UFO culture (mythology?) are quite good and stand-up very well as fine examples of investigative work lacking from much of the field, his ancillary works tend to be far less focused ... and that's largely because he tries to draw virtually all topics associated to the history of UFOs back to those seminal events from 1947.It's almost as if the author dismisses the fact that those events -- to date -- have yet to be substantiated.

That said, CASE MJ-12 is an admirable attempt to explore the possible origins to literally thousands of pages of supposedly "declassified" evidence linking Roswell and other UFO events to an elite oversight committee long referred to as "Majestic 12" (or "Majik 12" or "Magic 12" or just "Magic," depending upon whose opinion you accept).Despite having only seen a "representative sampling" (Randle's term, not mine), he feels compelled and competent to pass judgment over an entire body of paperwork he hasn't examined, and this investigative leap undermines much of his prose.

The book reads as if written very quickly. In fact, there are several long passages that almost appear as 'cut and paste' work, interspersed throughout the tome; interestingly enough, this 'cut-and-paste' is Randle's prime argument against accepting any of the MJ-12 papers as "credible."After finishing the work, you'll really understand the man's appreciation of the word "provenance."

Sadly, Randle stumbles in the book's second half, venturing easily into territory all-too-familiar these days in the endeavors of Ufology; he spends a fair portion of text 'bashing' others in the field for their failure to reach the same conclusions he has.As he's concluded a handful of the MJ papers are fradulent, he believes everyone should. In this respect, his arguments are weak ... especially given the fact that the foundation of his assertion is predicated on the outcome of a 'word game' played with a retired military officer (Kaufman) who, admittedly, can neither confirm nor deny the said committee's existence.

Still, CASE MJ-12 is entertaining in its first half, when Randle is dealing with those MJ 12 papers he has reviewed, and this is definitely worth reading. In the latter half, he delves (or tries to) into the psychology associated to MJ-12, if such a secret committee existed, and what the political and/or social ramifications would've been. For those familiar with the events of Roswell, CASE MJ-12 makes for adequate reading.Randle's insistence on spending time recounting (and recounting and recounting!) the Roswell events sadly grounds the prose; instead, he could've engaged readers with his own speculative theories associated to UFO crash retrievals.

For reasons beyond logic, Randle also feels compelled to tack on an extra chapter -- an appendix dealing solely with a con man's hoax associated to a UFO crash in Africa.Perhaps Randle believed that, by presenting events so obviously fabricated, the thinner of his arguments would be strengthened, but that isn't the way truly inquiring minds really think. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Soviet UFO Files
The Soviet UFO Files describes the history of Russian experience with UFOs.Bright well-defined color and somewhat-hazy black-and-white photographs are throughout the book, showing both UFOs and the Russian cultural experience.Impressive UFO photographs are the unidentified disc over Schelkovo in 1978 (page 58), a sphere over Crimea in 1978 (page 49), disc-shaped brightness (page 113), a cigar-shaped object (page 38), and ghostly bright fog over India in May 1964 (page 47).There are also a few described fake photographs as well as two silly Roswell false photographs, all of which I attribute to the publisher's error in judgement.

Impressive UFO cases are cadet pilot Maxim Churbakov encounter with an orange sphere on August 28, 1991, Fighter Pilot First Class Lev Vyatkin's avoidance of a slanting milky-white ray from a UFO on the night of August 13, 1967, Veniamin Dodin's sighting and drawing (page 33) of a cylinder object over the Ishimba River in June 1953 as well as the loss of Soviet fighter planes on August 7, 1953 after attacking UFOs, the presence of orange spheres over Otorten Mountain before mountaineers were later found with orange-colored dead bodies, and Soviet frogmen's deadly experience with ten-foot humanoid swimmers in Lake Baikal in the summer of 1982.

The Soviet UFO Files contains the same information as Mysterious Sky with the main difference being the presence of many photographs, which visually show the Russian UFO and cultural experience.I particularly liked the highlighting organization of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Piqued my curiousity
This book is a short, easy read with lots of pictures, much like one of those Time-Life books popular 20 years ago or so. I don't know much about the Soviet Union before or after the heady days of Glastnost, and this book only served to pique my curiousity more (on the subject of UFOs and otherwise!). It seems obvious to me that Russia keeps it's secrets close to the vest. In this book Stonehill can only give you enough information on some startling incidents to make you wish for the 'whole story'. Rarely in this book is the 'whole story' told, and that leaves the reader frustrated. The reviewer who gave this book only one star apparently wanted scientific proof of the reality of the UFO phenomenon.
This is not that kind of book. But the reviewer called this book a piece of s*** and I could not disagree more!

Because I am obsessed with the subject matter I Googled some of the topics Mr Stonehill writes about, and there just isn't a whole lot of information out there (if I understood the Russian language there would be more). I deduce that he does not elaborate on these topics because the details, the files are not available. Thankfully, he does not sensationalize the events for the sake of selling books. But --WOW!--there have been many incredible incidents, landings, deaths, aviator and cosmonaut 'situations' with UFOs in the past that Stonehill introduces his readers to. He writes briefly about Tunguska and other 'Anomalous Zones' that exist within that huge country, where strange paradigms exist.

As I said before, this is an easy read, and very appropriate for curious young readers and as an introduction to the history of the UFO phenomenon in the Soviet Union for any layperson.I enjoyed it for what it was, but it left me in need of a more in-depth expose' on the subject matter.

Paul Stonehill has also written (with Philip Mantle) Mysterious Sky, Soviet UFO Phenomenon. It IS more in-depth and runs 416 pages. When I finish reading it I will attempt to review it as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Soviet UFO Files by Paul Stonehill
I feel I need to add a few words about the book. The publishers gave me only 124 pages to write about Soviet and Russian UFO phenomenon. I was able to include as much fascinating information as possible; to give more details and discuss cases and patterns, I would need hundreds of pages. But this is a great book, and a good introduction to the subject for those who know little about the secrets of Soviet paranormal phenomena. There are addresses of Russian and Ukrainian researchers, should you wish to contact them. Western readers will learn of such amazing stories as the Ishimba 1953 incident over the taiga; strange account of the Phobos II demise; will see excerpts from the KGB files; and follow reports of Soviet military observers who had to report starnge objects in the sky over their nuclear missile silos, submarines, secret cosmodromes...Chernobyl, Monchegorsk, Dalnegorsk,Tunguska, the World War II sightings, ancient Russian UFO sightings...the book covers a lot. Again, I am proud of my efforts, and am eternally grateful to my contacts in the former Soviet Union, modern Russia, my country of birth Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and all others. Whether you buy the book or not is up to you, but I felt I had to defend it against a very unfair review.

A woman friend of mine, a very sweet person, gave me this book for my birthday. It's a very good-condition copy and it set her back almost $....Which just makes it all the more painful....

This book is everything a work on this subject should not be. It's presentation is sensational, the "evidence" presented is all anecdotal, and there are no footnotes whatsoever. In short, as a serious study, it's utterly useless.I mean, it could scarcely be any dumber if it were written by David Hatcher Childress himself.Simple minds will be reassured to know however, that there are lots and lots of big, bright pictures....

Seriously though, reading this book (which incidentally takes all of about 30 minutes) did convince me that there were sufficient UFO phenomena in the old Soviet Empire to justify the interest of genuine researchers. Especially if under the heading of "UFO phenomena", you include the reactions of the Soviet Overclass.Their attempts to juggle investigating these reports, while at the same time keeping their herd of human subjects from being spooked, seem to have been at least as entertaining as our present rulers' ongoing attempt to do the same....

But until someone writes that book save your money, and whatever you do, don't waste it on THIS PIECE OF ....!
