4-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable practice reference
Nyland's Veterinary Diagnostic Ultrasound is an invaluable addition to my hospital library.I was initially introduced to this volume as a fourth-year Veterinary Student in Radiology/Ultrasound.After graduation,I made sure to purchase a personal copy for reference in private practice. It is filled with easy-to-understand illustrations of different imagingviews of the heart and abdominal organs.I recommend keeping a copy ofNyland within easy reach of the clinic ultrasound for quick-referenceduring scans.

5-0 out of 5 stars I finally passed the Abdomen portion!
I purchased this book after failing the Abdomen registry twice and this was definitely a godsend. The review CD was very helpful and a lot of the registry questions are on the mock exams they provide you with. They also divided the mock exam by each subject (liver, biliary tee, etc.) so you can find out what your weak subject is. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exam preparation for diagnostic Ultrasound :OB/gyn (lippincott's Review Series)
It is an excelent book to review for RDMS exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars US ABDOMEN/OB REVIEW BOOK
THIS BOOK WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I AM IN US SCHOOL SO I USED IT TO STUDY FOR MY COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAMS. VERY GOOD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study guide and Review
The text was easy to read with excellent pointers on how to pass the registry and explanations to questions.

I particular liked the CD version of it, with the excellent quality pictures and clinical history that accompanied the questions.

I Passed The Abdomen sono on first attempt and I am now registered. Moving onto the OB/GYN section!

4-0 out of 5 stars Helped me pass the OB/GYN section.
All told it was well worth the money. The cd aspect of it was great , it was the best way for me to learn. That said I was dissapointed that the questions were exactly the same ones as in the book - I really had thought when I bought it I would be getting more of a database to chose from , much like the ARDMS. There was a question asking if the uterus pictured was antiverted, retroverted, etc. and it was a picture of the liver and rt. kidney. But again , it helped me and was a good addition to the (I agree) big yellow waste of money. How was the Abdomen part of it? Don't know , don't care right now either , you only need one specialty and the P&I to be regestered. Good luck to you all on this most difficult of endeavors. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A useful reference
I purchased this book in order to establish an emergency ultrasound program for our Remote Site Medical Services company. The book does not assume any prior knowledge of ultrasound, and thus is a useful reference for our paramedics. It is heavily illustrated with actual ultrasound images for each condition. The focus is on US in trauma (our primary concern) or FAST- Focused Abdominal Survey for Trauma, but also includes various gynelogical and medical conditions which typically present to the ED.There are a couple of drawbacks: this is written as a typically dry medical textbook, and not as a handbook or study guide for a short US program, despite the blurb above. Thus, most of the illustrations are B&W, with most of the drawings that show the outline of the anatomical structures displayed in the US being just simple line drawing.I think more enlightening would have been actual cadaver anatomy photos (See NcMinn's Color Atlas of Human Anatomy) referenced, as well as MRI and CT scan images, to give the student a better grasp of how to correlate US images to actual anatomy.

4-0 out of 5 stars short, sweet, and concise
i've attended an edelman seminar. he's a fine teacher and has mastered the art of concision and snappy presentations.this old (1996) purple book goes into no more detail than needed to pass the RDMS exam.at the seminar, edelman said "you need to master these concepts; the seminar isn't magic.don't memorize them, KNOW them."the book functions the same way, especially if you work with the questions on each section, which are excellent.

he has just published the new very expanded version for $79 at www.esp-physics.com.i'm sure it's good, but a whole sonography class at my school passed the RDMS board with the purple one.

if you want to find out how many pixels fit on the end of a pin, you could read the pegasus physics books.they are what my teacher had us get.we ALL (14 of us) hate them.i should sell my pegasus books on amazon.com, but i think i'd rather build a bonfire with them.i know frank miele's (the author's) physics is more pure and much less of a registry-driven package, but if you ask frank miele what time it is, he builds you a clock.and not just any clock, but an atomic clock, and then a grandfather clock, and then one of those ones out of paper you stack and fold, and then a swiss watch.i could get all this, perhaps, if the writing were better and the organization of the book were much more coherent BUT IT'S NOT AND IT'S NOT.REALLY not.so go with edelman.rah.

you ask sid edelman what time it is and he shows you his wristwatch.if you don't get it he quickly clarifies how to tell time.that's it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultrasound Physics Made Easy
for those who wish to take the exam, and can not make an edelman seminar, i highly recommend this book.this book provides the necessary information to ace the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes it no harder than it needs to be
The best!By providing information in a concise and straight forward manner, it is possible to understand ultrasound physics. As the other reviewer stated, Edelman's seminars are superb, this is the best book out there by far. It just can't compare with his seminars.

2-0 out of 5 stars Simple to the point of no learning
At first it is appealing because of its simplist approach, but upon further reading it becomes apparent that this book tries to simplify the material to the extreme. The book suggests if you "just" memorize the anagrams and analogies you will pass the RDMS.... It doesn't care if you understand the principles and doesn't give you the information to understand the concepts -- just tries to give you simple examples for you to memorize. I take offense as this approach suggests sonographers are too slow to learn anything more than silly diagrams and memorization tricks.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Focused, Easily Understood Physics Review
This text was the only book that I used to study for my physics
exam and I passed the first time! It was easy to understand and
the Q&A with explanations really helped me nail my registry.I
have recommended this text to my co-workers who are still trying
to pass the exam. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to U/S
I'm a 1st year radiology resident. This book is a good balance between time spent and knowledge obtained for a busy resident. Totally recommended as a first read before entering U/S rotation. However, coverage of vascular ultrasonography is minimal- so after mastering this your next logical step would be Zwiebel's book. Introduction to Vascular Ultrasonography(Fifth Edition)

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome book
great book for all sonographers. Clear pictures, quick references. I highly recommend it to anyone, from students to experienced techs.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you have the first edition, there's no need to buy the second!
I liked the first edition, eventhough there were a lot of images that were repeated over and over again(I would give it 4 stars- there are no other books like this that shows all the protocols you need, so I'll give the author credit for that). I bought the new one only to find myself looking at an identical book. There were hardly any added images in the second edition and it's not worth getting. My advice, stick to the first edition if you already have it. Buy the second edition "only" if you don't have the first edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate textbook for Sonographers!!!

Book Description
There are few situations in anesthesia where precise anatomic location is more important than in regional anesthesia. But, of course, any anesthesiologist who performs regional on a regular basis is fully aware of the frustration of attempting to locate nerves on a trial and error basis. Ultrasound imaging now enables us to visualize nerves, and this exciting technology offers several distinct benefits over conventional nerve locating techniques. The Atlas of Ultrasound and Nerve Stimulation-Guided Regional Anesthesia illustrates how to use ultrasound technology and nerve stimulation techniques to achieve consistently good results. Throughout the book, ultrasound images are correlated with MRI images to enhance anatomic identification. In addition, peripheral nerve block techniques for upper and lower extremities and the trunk are demonstrated step-by-step. With the luxury of being able to actually see the target nerve and the course of the needle as it approaches that nerve, anesthesiologists can now perform regional anesthesia with much greater accuracy. This approach allows the anesthesiologist to conduct regional anesthesia with much greater confidence and efficiency and in doing so the patient is the ultimate beneficiary in terms of success and safety. ... As promised---Quick ship!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatbook for sonographers! thanks
The book is a basik and almost only book to study sonography principals. it was in great condition. thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to have a clear concept of Ultrasound Physics
I found this book very understandable and easy in the sense that it describes most of the physical principles in detail and with equation which some other authors lack.Though it's not so easy to read at once or showing not only definations but also descriptions of topics which makes it more to understand instead of just memorizing the things and that is the most important thing I found in it

4-0 out of 5 stars An introductory textbook on medical ultrasound
I actually came across Professor Kremkau's textbook accidentally, when I was looking for some not too dated text on the physics of medical ultrasound. Although it was obviously aimed at a practicing ultrasonographer preparing for some ARDMS or ARRT exam rather than a physicist trying to brush up his knowledge of medical ultrasound, it proved to be a valuable source of relatively recent information on the current state of the area.

The textbook starts with an overview of the basic physics of waves and ultrasound, proceeds to the transducers and beam shape, and continues to the computer technology used for imaging. Next comes a chapter on the Doppler effect, being followed by a discussion on spectral analysis. A synthesis of these two techniques is the color Doppler imaging, and an entire chapter is devoted on the recent techniques like Color Doppler and Color Power Doppler. The textbook is concluded by a chapter discussing the artifacts, and finally a chapter on performance and safety.

The style is highly readable, although the text is somewhat repetitive. One striking observation - for a physicist at least - is that professor Kremkau denies the efforts spent in inventing a readable representation of mathematical relations over the past 500 years or so, and has invented his own system. So instead of the usual "wavelength equals propagation speed divided by frequency" written in mathematical symbols, we see frames like "frequency UP, wavelength DOWN" throughout the book. Strange, and probably not particularly efficient.

Each chapter is accompanied by a list of over 100 questions, and the answers are provided at the end of the book after the summary chapter. Each chapter also contains a small handy glossary. The book is lavishly illustrated and has a useful index, while the list of references is not particularly impressive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good begining for education
I think, that this book is for those, who wants understand, what isultrasound, what are the basic principals of working with it, and how touse ultrasound in practice. So, good begining for education in the field ofultrasound. Good luck for everybody, and of course, fortune! ... Read more

Book Description
FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND packs a big punch for such a compact book. It teaches the resident, clinician and even medical student, how to perform and read musculoskeletal ultrasounds, while highlighting the basic anatomy needed to perform and interpret ultrasounds and the salient points needed to make diagnosis. Key anatomy, concepts, diseases and even controversies are highlighted, rather than presenting a lengthy tome covering the A to Z's of musculoskeletal ultrasound. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Case Review series
This is definitely the best one out of the series. The pictures are excellent, often including labels to help the beginning resident get a grasp of viewing U/S anatomy. Each case is succintly presented with an excellent disccusion. 3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to understand
I think this book is Ok to learn ultrasound physics. We are using it in our class right now.We went through and did all of level one now we are going back and doing level two/three.I think Miele is a very very smart guy.A lot of things he seems to go way more in depth then what I believe we will need.My teacher swears by the book though.I guess we will see when it comes time for all of us to take our boards

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for sonographers!!
This text should be adopted by all Diagnostic Ultrasound schools.
This is an invaluable text for both those wishing to understand ultrasound and those preparing for their board exams. The text is organized in a way to meet anyones learning style with lots of questions and a very well done CD.

I was recently at a board review course at which Mr. Miele was presenting, he followed the two volume text in his presentation and made untrasound physics come to life.I came to realize the importance of this material in everyday clinical ultrasound.Everyone I spoke with was thankful for the first chapter in the text, Mathematics, which clearly demonstrates the need to understand these principles and shows you how you can come to that understanding. There may not be a lot of calculations on the boards, but there is a lot of math. Thanks to this text, many will be prepared for their boards and have a more clear understanding of physics in their everyday practice.
