Editorial Review

Product Description
Distilling more than ten years of experience with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), Intracoronary Ultrasound summarizes Dr Mintz's own experiences as well as published and unpublished observations of others in the field. The text incorporates angiographic and uses pathologic observations to fill in the gaps in knowledge of coronary artery disease as assessed by IVUS alone. A major effort went into selecting and presenting figures for their illustrative value. In most cases each IVUS figure includes a linear sequence of equidistantly-spaced image slices that illustrates the full length morphology of the lesion and/or the pullback of the transducer through the lesion. It provides the reader with an excellent guide for revision, confirming diagnoses, and teaching.

Summarize the field as it exists today, highlighted with a careful and painstaking collection of figures ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great layman's review of Medical Ultrasound Physics
I found this book very useful to get a birds-eye understanding of the physics behing medical ultrasound. The author uses metaphorical examples and images very nicely throughout the book to provide a very clear yet concise review of the subject matter. This book is not for you if you are looking for detailed mathematical analysis of ultrasound wave acoustics and beamforming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works well for ARDMS
Now that I finished my ARDMS abdomen exam, I can say this book was adequate preparation for this test.I am a physician so perhaps have a different background than the average reader, but I found the book very easy to read, with enough ultrasound images in the practice test portion of the book. This was the only book I used to prepare for the exam, and I scored 92%.There are occasional factual errors, mostly confined to the practice test, as well as rare typographical errors (that I noticed). Also the CDROM that comes with the book (containing the same practice exam as the text) has a tendency to repeat questions even when specifically set not to do so.
Overall, a good way to spend time and money if passing the ARDMS-abdomen is your goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is an amazingly well organized, thorough book, exactly in the sprit of the ARDMS Physics and Instrumentation exam.
All issues that are relevant to the exam are well discussed in this book. For someone who started with very little knowledge of the material, I scored nearly 90% thanks in large part to the preparation possible through this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book for ardms exam
this book is written according to the ardms guidelines.each topic is covered very comprehensively.this is an excellent book for a person who is preparing for ardms exam

5-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Ultrasound Physics..An exceptional aid!
Any individual preparing for the ARDMS exams in diagnostic medical ultrasound need look no further. At last, a book that is readable, easy to follow (actually follows the ARDMS physics outlline) and is very wellillustrated with interesting and intuitive diagrams. The author has therare talent of translating an extremely complex subject into everyday, understandable language. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Case Review series
This is definitely the best one out of the series. The pictures are excellent, often including labels to help the beginning resident get a grasp of viewing U/S anatomy. Each case is succintly presented with an excellent disccusion. The case selection is also fantastic, as it covers the important topics with the exclusion of OB/GYN (covered in it's own seperate series). All the info in this book is material residents should be expected to know. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bood, but don't buy new version if you have old one
This book is a good review for the radiology boards. That being said, if you have the older version already, don't bother to buy the new version. I went through the book, and there were approximately 4 new/different cases throughout the whole book as compared to the original version. The author did update many pics, even in the cases that she re-used, but I didn't think it was worth buying it again. Hope this helps.

Product Description

Ultrasound has replaced X-ray as the main imaging modality for the diagnosis of pelvic floor disorders in the female. Most recent developments - volume contrast, speckle reduction and multi-slice imaging - have markedly enhanced spatial resolution and ease of use, with the result that ultrasound now enables cost-effective and non-invasive demonstration of bladder neck and pelvic organ mobility, vaginal, urethral and levator ani function and anatomy, and anorectal anatomy.

"Atlas of Pelvic Floor Ultrasound" provides an introduction to pelvic floor imaging, as well as a resource to be used during initial and more advanced practice. Thanks to the support of GE Medical Ultrasound, the integration of 4D View software and volume data for offline analysis on the accompanying DVD provides a simple and convenient means to train pattern recognition and quantitative analysis.

This atlas is an invaluable resource for gynecologists, urogynecologists, female urologists, sonologists, radiologists, and physiotherapists.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book, but..
this is a great pocket book for 1st year radiology residents. but there are no specific measurements (like general obstetric) or age related measurements for liver, spleen and kidneys that we encounter everyday and also transrectal and transvaginal images are not included.
but again, i still recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I bought this book in combination with the textbook by the same author for self-teaching (see my review there).

4-0 out of 5 stars Colour Atlas of Ultrasound Anatomy
I recommend this book to a beginner sonographer. It assists students by clearly labeling anatomy on both ultrasound images and accompanying diagrams that are located next to the ultrasound images. This book has assisted me in learning clinical anatomy. The diagrams really help. The only problem with this book is the fact that the diagrams are labeled with numbers and the captions/descriptions of what the numbers mean is located on a separate page. This causes the reader to keep having to turn back to the captions page if they don't know what organ they are looking at in the images. The book is organized into separate sections "pancreas, gall bladder, vessels, liver etc".The price also is a bonus. It is well worth it!

3-0 out of 5 stars A good book for US beginners
Color Atlas of Ultrasound Anatomy is a good book, when starting to do abdominal ultrasound scans. However it soon becomes quite useless, when you get some experience. But after that it can still be used for checking the normal dimensions of anatomical structures. I was disappointed that the book doesn't really help you locate the bile duct, even though that is one of the big challenges to me. Overall a good guide to ultrasoud anatomy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing & inaccurate key
I am totally disappointed in the purchase of this book.I needed a guide to help me with anatomy & location of landmarks while scanning.I come from a nonmedical background so have been playing catch-up to the other students in my ultrasound program. The book is confusing with no guide to tell you how to use it.The key to the scans for the identity of specific parts/organs should be on the same page--not in some distant location where you have to keep flipping back & forth everytime you need to identify something. But, worst of all, is that the information given is incorrect.
Yes, the actual US images are good--but since they are mislabeled, it is confusing & hurts the sonographer instead of educating them.I went to several sonographers, as well as the head of my program, & asked them to look at the book.I doubted myself when I saw mislabeled areas in the key for the scans. The incorrect labeling is present throughout the book.Everyone confirmed that the key was grossly inaccurate &, even it that hadn't been the case, was very hard to follow because of where the editor chose to put the key & with no instructions on how to use it.
For a student on an extremely limited budget, this was a waste of money for me.No longer will I buy a book unless I can actually browse through it to see if the facts are correct. In order to get any use out of this book, I'll have to go to other textbooks & sonographers so I can hand label CORRECTLY the areas on the scans. The problem is, I was relying on this book to provide that information for me instead of vice versa!

Product Description
There are few situations in anesthesia where precise anatomic location is more important than in regional anesthesia. But, of course, any anesthesiologist who performs regional on a regular basis is fully aware of the frustration of attempting to locate nerves on a trial and error basis. Ultrasound imaging now enables us to visualize nerves, and this exciting technology offers several distinct benefits over conventional nerve locating techniques. The Atlas of Ultrasound and Nerve Stimulation-Guided Regional Anesthesia illustrates how to use ultrasound technology and nerve stimulation techniques to achieve consistently good results. Throughout the book, ultrasound images are correlated with MRI images to enhance anatomic identification. In addition, peripheral nerve block techniques for upper and lower extremities and the trunk are demonstrated step-by-step. With the luxury of being able to actually see the target nerve and the course of the needle as it approaches that nerve, anesthesiologists can now perform regional anesthesia with much greater accuracy. This approach allows the anesthesiologist to conduct regional anesthesia with much greater confidence and efficiency and in doing so the patient is the ultimate beneficiary in terms of success and safety. ... This is a must have book for anyone who does breast ultrasound. Easy to read and image intensive. The subjects are well organized and comprehensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars I didn't find this book helpful at all
Having ploughed through this book, I would not recommmend it at all. There are far more superior books on this topic available.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Breast Ultrasound 'Bible'
The main reason I purchased this book was use it as a review before taking the Breast Ultrasound registry. The authors (Stavros/Rapp) are respected in their field, and I have attended their conference lectures. The overall size of the book was a bit intimidating at first (nearly 1000 pages). On the plus side, the images are outstanding. The image descriptions duplicate the text word-for-word, which really helps to cement the facts in your head. The chapters are formatted very logically, even if some of them are nearly 100 pages long.In my journey through the book I found only a couple of minor typographic/editing errors. If you are reading carefully, these won't be a problem. This book is now firmly planted in my office as a reference.Oh, and by the way, I did pass the registry!Kara Chickering, R.T., RDMS, RDCS, RVT ...
