5-0 out of 5 stars Works well for ARDMS
Now that I finished my ARDMS abdomen exam, I can say this book was adequate preparation for this test.I am a physician so perhaps have a different background than the average reader, but I found the book very easy to read, with enough ultrasound images in the practice test portion of the book. This was the only book I used to prepare for the exam, and I scored 92%.There are occasional factual errors, mostly confined to the practice test, as well as rare typographical errors (that I noticed). Also the CDROM that comes with the book (containing the same practice exam as the text) has a tendency to repeat questions even when specifically set not to do so.
Overall, a good way to spend time and money if passing the ARDMS-abdomen is your goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is an amazingly well organized, thorough book, exactly in the sprit of the ARDMS Physics and Instrumentation exam.
All issues that are relevant to the exam are well discussed in this book. For someone who started with very little knowledge of the material, I scored nearly 90% thanks in large part to the preparation possible through this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book for ardms exam
this book is written according to the ardms guidelines.each topic is covered very comprehensively.this is an excellent book for a person who is preparing for ardms exam

5-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Ultrasound Physics..An exceptional aid!
Any individual preparing for the ARDMS exams in diagnostic medical ultrasound need look no further. At last, a book that is readable, easy to follow (actually follows the ARDMS physics outlline) and is very wellillustrated with interesting and intuitive diagrams. The author has therare talent of translating an extremely complex subject into everyday, understandable language.

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing Title Misleads Searchers
We cannot review this book's contents, for it is not what we were looking for when we ordered it.

Because ~ the book's title is confusing for people not already experts in the field of high-frequency sound. Theoverall field we were looking for, we now know, is ultra-SONICS. Whereas, the application of high-frequency sound to medicine is known asultra-SOUND.

The author of this book named it, a bitimprecisely, wethink:

"Essentials of Ultrasound Physics"

The word "physics" in thistitle implies broad theoretical discussion (i.e. ultra-SONICS), whereas thebooks is actually limited to (medical) ultra-sound.

Searchers, suggestyou use search words "ultra-SONICS" if you want to find broad materials on"high frequency sound" applications. ... Read more

Book Description

This book is a comprehensive reference and practical guide on the technology and application of ultrasound to the musculoskeletal system. It is organized into two main sections. The first is devoted to general aspects, while the second provides a systematic overview of the applications of musculoskeletal ultrasound in different areas of the body. Each chapter of the second section provides an introduction on clinical anatomy and the essentials of clinical history and physical examination. Thereafter, performance of the ultrasound study is explained and the normal and pathological anatomy is reviewed. To assist in understanding, the ultrasound scans are correlated with drawings, photographs, images obtained using other modalities, and anatomic specimens. There is a generous complement of high-quality illustrations based on high-end equipment. This book contains a wealth of invaluable information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential resource for the full range of ED ultrasound applications
This book seems ideal for both beginners and more advanced users as well. The manual covers all the accepted and emerging uses of ultrasound - not just FAST, echocardiography, and line placement, but optic nerve sheath diameter, foreign body localization, DVT identification, and more.

Each color-coded topic features multiple high-quality images of normal and abnormal views, and anatomical illustrations to demonstrate proper probe positioning. The writing is straightforward, and equally suitable for "on the job" referencing or reviewing at leisure. The chapters include troubleshooting and pitfalls sections loaded with helpful imaging tips, and lit review tables to guide researchers, over and above the extensive bibliography.I also appreciated the helpful sample clinical protocols, included to guide physicians' decision-making for starting therapy, calling consults, or considering other imaging methods.

Altogether, this concise manual is packed with information to guide physicians at all levels of training through the full range of ED ultrasonography. Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound ought to be part of every department's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Emergency Ultrasound Text
This is the best introductory text to emergency ultrasound that I've ever read.Like all introductory books, it starts with a brief, useful introduction to the physics of ultrasound concentrating on those aspects relevant to emergency applications. The book then moves to diagnostic and procedural uses of ultrasound in the ED.These sections go far beyond the traditional topics of the FAST exam and central line placement to include such varied applications as chest ultrasound, ocular US, foreign body removal, joint aspiration, lumbar puncture, etc.Further unlike other texts, this manual supports the text with quality anatomic diagrams along with sonographic images of both normal and abnormal examples. This method of demonstrating anatomy in conjunction with a normal sonographic image juxtaposed next to an abnormal image is extremely helpful and is sorely lacking in other books of this type.If you are looking for an excellent introduction to ED ultrasound, this is the book! ... Cranial ultrasonography provides information on brain maturation in the (preterm) neonate and enables detection of frequently occurring brain anomalies in this patient group. It can be repeated when necessary. After the introduction of neonatal MRI, cranial ultrasonography has been relatively neglected. While modern textbooks are available on pathological conditions of the neonatal brain, a recent book showing high quality normal ultrasound images is lacking. The current book deals with the basics of neonatal cranial ultrasonography and can be used as a reference-book providing essential information about the procedure and normal ultrasound anatomy. ...
