5-0 out of 5 stars easy way to review casually
I am using these books now, when I am in the early stages of studying and not really up to regimented hard core studying. I just like to casually look at questions and see if I can answer them, and this is great for that
I have heard these questions are harder than the ones on the real test, I am hoping its true

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Practice
These books are helpful and a good way to study for boards. Many people do not know how to approach board review - with these books you can set yourself a goal of 50 or 100 questions per day. Answers includeexplanations so you're not forced to look up wrong answers and try todetermine where got confused. Plus, the actual board exam questions areactually easier than these. A good tune-up! ... Read more

This handy reference provides users with an understanding of complementary and alternative treatment options for more than 130 common disease states. A practical manual, it describes a variety of possible approaches to small animal disorders. Concentrating on nutrition, herbs, traditional Chinese medicines, and physical therapies, the authors present both tradition- and evidence-based therapies for disorders not always responsive to conventional therapies. Each monograph-style discussion of natural therapies for disorders common to specific body systems presents therapeutic rationales with the goals of treatment, alternative therapies with conventional bases, paradigmatic options, and authors' suggestions from which they've experienced success. Key references are also included at the conclusion of each chapter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good so far
I honestly have not read much of it yet. I am only going through the intro, but I am finding it interesting. The only thing that has put me off so far is that they put in new chinese terms without defining them. I guess it is not important to know what they all mean, but I feel weird not knowing. It talks about upper, middle and lower burners and then talks about upper, middle and lower jiao. And I am guessing jiao means burner, but I would feel better if they stated that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Text
Alternative Veterinary medicine is a field to which I have not had much exposure. This book covers many topics in a survey manner with just enough detail.I would reccomend it as a starter text.

3-0 out of 5 stars Manual is manual and as such it serves as a fast guide of consultation.
All that that acts in the area of veterinary natural medicine needs a fast guide of consultation, of the type Five Minutes.
This manual serves very well for a first consultation and to guide the first treatment mainly by the use of Chinese and western herbs, diet, acupuncture and other therapies.
Therefore, it is an indispensable book to every veterinary naturopata.
And the index is of easy consultation and very complete, still containing the appendixes, very useful and practical.
I recommend a lot of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good job
This is a wonderful text on complementary medical therapies for pets. A superb introduction to herbal medicine and understanding Traditional Chinese Medicine. I highly recommend it and as a fellow holistic veterinarian and author (8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, The Allergy Solution for Dogs, and the award-winning The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats,) I found the information quite useful.

4-0 out of 5 stars vet term book
This is a pretty good book. There are a few things that could be explained a lettle better in layman terms for the beginner. If you haven't worked in the vet fieldprior to purchasing this book, it's going to be confusing and a little overwhelming in some areas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book.
This textbook is not a regular medical terminology book per se where they divide each word into parts, but it is very much oriented to veterinary though. It begins with words particularly related to dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, parrots, mice, rats, turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, pigs, horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, burro, sheep, goats, llamas, guinea pigs, cattle, etc. Then it takes the systems and introduces words for each organ. It goes into animal testing and diagnostic evaluation going into routes of administration, drug categories, surgical terms, surgical equipment, and needles, and sutures. The chapter on dogs and cats goes into breed-related terms, descriptive terms, and vaccinations. The equine species chapter tells the modes of movement, anatomy, physiology, and disease terms, markings, equipment, and management terms, types of horses, terms for unsoundness in horses. In the ruminant chapter industry terms are given as well as milk-related terms. In a similar manner swine, birds, and other species are dealt with. Also, there are excellent anatomy pictures of the birds.A lot of words in the book will be known by animals lovers already, but to have them all in one book is great. Then, of courses, there will be lots of new words, too.I just find it a great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent terminology book
This is an excellent terminology book. The really great thing about it is the illustrations which clearly show some of the diseases and techniques.

Just a couple of nitpicky things though: The CD that came with the book has recordings of the words being spoken and nothing else, and the book doesn't include pronunciations with accent marks (The included breakdown of syllables could be pronounced multiple ways.) It would have been nice to have a more thorough CD (or no CD) and have better pronunciation material throughout the book instead.

Also, in an attempt to turn some of the related terms into a linear "story," the author obscured some of the definitions. It took me multiple readings of them in order to decipher which term went with which definition.

But like I said, that's just me being nitpicky. Overall, it's an excellent book. It will be in my collection long after I graduate!

5-0 out of 5 stars Anatomy and Physiology Refresher Too
I purchased this book to use in a veterinary terminology class and I've found it's a great refresher on basic anatomy and physiology as well. The sections are broken up by system (i.e. urogenital, digestive, etc.) and really make a lot of sense. The diagrams are quite useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those in the Veterinary field!
I am very pleased with my purchase. The flash card feature on the disc, is great for remebering terms and meanings. Pictures in the text book are clear. Breaks down everything in easy understandable terms. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The most used book on my shelf
Whenever I encounter a new disease, or need to refresh my memory about one I haven't seen lately, I reach for this book first.I find it to be concise, informative, and useful. While other medical texts make for good fireside or bedtime reading, this one cuts to the chase, and is useful in the midst of a busy veterinary schedule.
I use this book as my "nerd book", jotting notes in the margins when I learn something new about a disease from reading journals. Overall I am quite impressed at how up-to-date and complete the information is vis-a-vis JAVMA, the Compendium for Continuing Education, etc. I also appreciate that this book comes out in new additions often enough to keep up with the rapid changes in veterinary medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars must be on a vets library
very helpful in learning details about diseases and drugs we use.Easy to use the book and easy to understand.Thank you for the opportunity for me to receive this book to Turkey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I got this book a couple of years ago on the advice of my mentor. This book has really helped me out in school(esp. in my Problem-Based Learning classes). It is pretty easy to understand, is very concise, and it includes many commmon and uncommon diseases of small animals. However, not all information about specific diseases is included. This resource should just be used as a starting point. The formulary is useful, as is the section about diagnostic test results. I just wish they would come out with a 5-Minute Consult-Exotics Edition

5-0 out of 5 stars Great user-friendly reference for vet students
This book is great when you just need the down and dirty on a disease, and don't want to wade through a 50-page description in the heavy-duty references. It was also very useful during second-year, when you're just trying your hand at figuring out the diseases, and need a little confirmation of your diagnosis and treatment plans. Or, when you're totally clueless and need help get started in the right direction.Fair warning, faculty usually won't accept it as 'reference' especially if you're trying to argue a point, but during a recent open-book final, I brought mine in anyway and there was practically a mob of other students rushing over to check out one thing or another.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Minute Veterinary Consult: Canine and Feline (CD-ROM for W
Tilley's 5 -Minute Veterinary Consult book has been an extremely valuable asset to my library. When the CD-Rom came out, it was even more useful in that immediate and current information can be retrieved much faster than picking up a book.It is faster since topics related to a case can be searched for and reviewed with a touch of your mouse. This information can be quickly printed and given to clients to further understand their pets diagnosed condition. This printed information alone is priceless!A client that has something in hand and can follow and confirm their veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment, helps establish the trust a client needs to have in their pets doctor.

I reach for my 5- Minute Vet Consult CD-rom more than any other resource in my library. It is very accurate and has a surprising amount of detail to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each topic. The drug search is a very helpful formulary for those quick reference needs. The most recent CD has a good number of cytology and radiographic images attached to the topics. These can be enlarged to see more closely the great detail.

In my opinion the 5-Minute Veterinary Consult CD-Rom was one of the best reference investments for my practice. It is definitely the most utilized reference I have. Time is money and this has saved me many steps and thus time and money.Every practice needs this reference without doubt!

Open the front cover and the first two pages you see contain the Index of Signs and Symptoms, from Abdomen (painful, swollen, distended, and tucked up) to Weight loss, Wheezing, and Whining (continual). There's a comprehensive index in back, of course, running the gamut from Abortion to Zinc-Responsive Dermatosis, which is all very useful, but when your pooch is in pain, it's great to be able to turn, with the minimum of folderol, to the page that says to relax, it's nothing a bit of extra grooming won't fix, or alternatively to hightail it over to the vet hospital. It's a wonderful reference for any dog owner, with chapters on emergencies (such as burns, dehydration, and poisoning), as well as worms, infectious diseases, skin care, and canine eyes, ears, and nose. There are chapters on the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems, the nervous, musculoskeletal, and urinary systems, plus dog sex, whelping, puppy pediatrics, geriatrics, and chapters on cancers and medications. In short, it covers every health dimension a dog owner might want to know more about, identifies the possible causes, helps you determine the severity of the condition, and indicates what treatments or actions to take to best insure your dog's good health.--Stephanie GoldBook Description

This outstanding reference focuses on the clinically relevant aspects of the most commonly encountered internal medical problems in dogs and cats. Now in its 3rd edition, Small Animal Internal Medicine has been hailed for its emphasis on diagnostic approaches to clinical signs, diagnostics techniques, general therapeutics, and synopses of important disorders. It teaches readers how to think critically and develop decision-making skills. The first sections cover specific disorders by body system, while the final sections pertain to oncology, hematology and immunology, and infectious diseases. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book got me through my internal medicine final exam in a way that Ettinger never would. What's more, it got me through my first year in small animal practice as well. Ettinger is fine if you want to look up details on obscure diseases, but like other reviewers have already written, I agree that this is the book you need for the real world. It's user friendly, easy to read, and with great illustrations. After a few years in small animal practice you might want to get Ettinger as well, but start out with this one. You won't regret it. The neurology section could've been more comprehensive, though.

It has a little bit more information than my professor;s notes, but nothing crazy. If you are a vet student I would for sure recommend this book even if it isn't on your school's book list. From the cavemen to the modern days, this book covers everything known to the history of veterinary medicine so far: from the ancient means of diagnosis, to the discoveries of new treatments, to great people who helpedto develop the veterinary medicine. It's not a book for specialists, butfor anyone interested in history. I particularly bought this book becauseI'm a vet, and wanted to know the origins of my profession. 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly informative
This is a wonderful text on complementary medical therapies for pets, with numerous contributions by various experts. I highly recommend it and as a fellow holistic veterinarian and author (8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, The Allergy Solution for Dogs, and the award-winning The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats,) I found the information quite useful and referenced much of the material in my own writings.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most interesting book in Veterinary Medicine
A mine of information, very technical and thorough for all vets interested in alternative medicine and those who wish to learn more about it. I bought it 5 years ago and still have a lot of pleasure to read it again.Chapters after chapters, you fully understand that the holistic approach of a sick animal is the only worthwhile and that the complete cure is a reachable goal, not simply alleviate or mask symptoms like in the allopathic way. A book for what the future approach of patients and care will be in the 21st century.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alternative pet med at its best!
The author discusses many insightful techniques that should be used in pet medicine worldwide. He speaks of techniques that incorporate bio energy and accupressue. Often these methods are rebuked by vets who have no understanding or care about eastern (eg. chinese) medicine. This system of healing has been around for thousands of years! Buy this book and others by him.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'd be hard pressed to find better!
What a wonderful book! With chapters on every kind of alternative/complimentary med you can think of, this book lets you know what the thought behind the process is. Now you understand! Now you can choose! I found this book to be a bit tough for the layman but certainly worth the possible struggle to understand some of the terminology. I thought this book was so worthwhile that I bought it for my traditional vet and he thought the material helped to build a bridge of understanding between the practioner of traditional medicine and the alternative practice. If you're looking for facts as presented by the practioners of alternative therpaies, this book shouldn't be missed. Yes, it's pricey but it offers a reference that no other book can beat!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine piece of work
Anyone interested in the field should buy this book. I can be read by proff's as well as others, but having a university degree doesn't exactly make it more difficult, of cause. The book goes through lots of different fields of alt. med., and remembers the references as well as selected readings. So go get it, you won't regret it (though it is pretty expencive). ...
