List Of Names Of Gaspee Raiders (Later referred to as Col bowen, and not the same person as Dr. Ephraim bowenof East Greenwich, RI.) More on Ephraim bowen; Greene rufus Greene, Jr. http://www.bucklinsociety.net/GASPEE_RAIDERS.htm
Extractions: RHODE ISLAND MEN WHO ATTACKED THE GASPEE. In the at least eight long boats of Rhode Island men that attacked the Gaspee, there were at least 64 men, and probably more than 90 . Most historians list only about 20 of the raiders (the list names vary). Most historians start with the written accounts by Gaspee raiders Ephraim Bowen and John Mawney, and add names from the account of John Howland (see note at end of this page re Howland) to form a short list of the attack party, but other Rhode Island men can be identified. Our list has over 30 probable participants in the Gaspee raiding party. List of 30 probable participants in the Gaspee raiding party. We have biographical information on most of the Rhode Island men on our list. In addition we have information on other persons who were involved in one way or another, on the American or English side, in the attack or its aftermath.
Rufus Greene Gaspee Raider Nathaniel was there, on the word of Ephraim bowen. This eliminates one of the potentialGreenes. Of the two remaining ship Fortune Greenes , rufus is most http://www.bucklinsociety.net/Green_Rufus.htm
Extractions: host: GenWeb The Greene family were owners of the Fortune, seized by Dudingston, and had a strong grievance against him. Among the goods seized (as smuggled goods) was some rum. During the period of the Gaspee raid the Greenes were in the process of bringing a law suit against Dudingston for damages for their lost rum. The initial part of this process was political and investigative. That is, the Greenes and others asked the Rhode Island government to discover the authority of the person commanding the Gaspee. After the Gaspee raid, that suit was successfully concluded with a jury verdict adjudging improper seizure and damages assessed against Dudingston. The Gaspee sailors told of one man (during the events of the capture of the Gaspee) harassing Dudingston about payment for rum. Thus the mention by participants of "Greene" fits with the logic of the situation. We do not know positively whether the Greene on board the Gaspee was: Nathaniel, the owner of the rum;
