Extractions: David Kendall attended Ripon Grammar School and the entered Queen's College, Oxford. He was awarded his M.A. in 1943 but he had aleardy been involved in war work. During the years of World War II and Kendall worked as an Experimental Officer with the Ministry of Supply from 1940 until the end of the war in 1945. Other mathematicians such as Rogers also held similar posts with the Ministry of Supply. In 1946 Kendall was elected a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford and appointed a lecturer in mathematics. He spent the academic year 1952-53 in the United States as a visiting lecturer at Princeton University. Then in 1962 Kendall was appointed as Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge. At the same time he was elected a fellow of Churchill College Cambridge. Kendall held this chair of mathematical statistics until he retired in 1985 and which time he became professor emeritus. He also became an Emeritus Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford in 1989. Kendall is a leading world authority on applied probability and data analysis. He has written on stochastic geometry and its applications, and the statistical theory of shape. David Kendall. David comenced his career in the aircraft industry designing compositestructures for aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Tornado fighter.

He has been nominated as a Reading Champion by Anne Sarrag, who works for LaunchPad, and Susie Johnson, Literature Officer for South East Arts. Anne writes: "David breaks the mould of what is expected by teachers, librarians and young people. His ability to connect with boys has been instrumental in hooking them into reading. In one recent project involving children in care, he listened to them and befriended them with a genuine interest and warmth. Just the one-on-one attention gave these children a sense of self-esteem and worth. Then, once he knew and understood them, he started to share books with them, just as friends would share suggestions on what to read. This was so different from the usual approach of jumping straight in with a pile of books and trying to give them out during the first visit. Bearing in mind David was told many of the young people were not readers, this wasn't plain sailing - yet David discovered in each of these children - in partnership with them - their inner reader." Extractions: I have long been interested in the national anthems of the world. Since I have taken up the hobby, my collection has grown to be about 98% complete in terms of current anthems, containing over 300 current and former anthems, as well as anthems of other entities. Feel free to send me email requesting more info on any anthem, or help in any other field. But, also keep in mind that I do do this as a hobby, a hobby that, sadly, I have less and less time to work on, and I don't even always have time to check my email even once a week! (It may be a month or more before you get a reply.) Apologies in advance to those who require a timely response for a deadline (such as a school project), and I did not respond in time. By all means, though, keep writing with requests for information, you may catch me when I actually have some free time! PLEASE NOTE: I have fallen drastically behind in updating my page (about 12 months worth). For thosoe who submitted information and revisions in the past year, they are highly appreciated, and I am just now starting to get enough free time to slowly start on these contributions (oldest first). My task is to respond to the two hours of uninterrupted testimony from the independent counsel, as well as to his four-year, $45 million investigation, which has included at least 28 attorneys, 78 FBI agents and an undisclosed number of private investigators, an investigation which has generated by a computer count 114,532 news stories in print, and 2,513 minutes of network television time, not to mention 24-hour scandal coverage on cable, a 445 page referral, 50,000 pages of documents from secret grand jury testimony, four hours of videotaped testimony, 22 hours of audiotape some which was gathered in violation of state law and the testimony of scores of witnesses not one of whom has been cross-examined.
