Dat zijn dan ervaringen, theorieën, vooronderstellingen, definities, hypothesen en spelregels, waarvan de optelsom bepalend is voor de individuele kijk. Belief may be a regrettably unavoidable biological weakness to be kept under the control of criticism: but commitment is for Popper an outright crime. Kuhn thinks otherwise. He too rejects the idea that science grows by accumulation of eternal truths.[ ] He too takes his main inspiration from Einstein's overthrow of Newtonian physics. His main problem too is scientific revolution For Popper scientific change is rational or at least rationally reconstructible and falls in the realm of the logic of discovery (social) psychology of discovery . Scientific change is a kind of religious change. The clash between Popper and Kuhn is not about a mere technical point in epistemology. It concerns our central intellectual values, and has implications not only for theoretical physics but also for the underdeveloped social sciences and even for moral and political philosophy. If even in science there is no a way of judging a theory but by assessing the number, faith and vocal energy of its supporters, then this must be even more so in the social sciences: truth lies in power. Thus Kuhn's position would vindicate, no doubt, unintentionally, the basic political credo of contemporary religious maniacs ("student revolutionaries").

En 1947 fue designado para ocupar un alto puesto en el Ministerio de Educación húngaro. En 1950 fue arrestado por ser "un revisionista" y tuvo que pasar tres años en una prisión stalinista. En 1956 se enteró de que podría ser arrestado de nueva cuenta, lo que le hizo escapar a Viena y casualmente llegó a la London School of Economics and Political Sciences, de la Universidad de Londres. Allí hizo sus estudios de filosofía de la ciencia bajo el tutelaje de Sir Karl Popper. Fue profesor de la LSE desde 1960 hasta 1974, año en que repentinamente murió el 2 de febrero. A pesar de su relativamente corta carrera como filósofo de la ciencia, Lakatos ha tenido una gran influencia tanto en ciencias naturales como en ciencias sociales. Su trabajo es más conocido y reconocido como un valioso esquema para la evaluación del progreso (y/o degeneración) del conocimiento de cualquier área científica de investigación. Lakatos (1978) presenta su metodología de programas científicos de investigación como una versión mejorada del falsacionismo ingenuo de Popper.
