In den Jahren bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg bewies der neue Weltmeister durch eine Serie von Turnier- und Wettkampferfolgen, dass er mehr als der primus inter pares war. Entthront wurde Lasker 1921 von der kubanischen "Schachmaschine" Capablanca. Lasker hatte dem Titel schon freiwillig zugunsten Capablancas entsagt, dieser bestand jedoch - verständlicherweise - auf einem Match, welches Lasker, 0-4 im Rückstand liegend, aufgrund der Hitze in Havanna aufgab.

One of my favorite music pieces is Johannes Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Emanuel's older brother, Berthold Lasker, taught Emanuel chess at the age of 11. Lasker is most famous for seeing that chess is a struggle between two minds. In practicing that theorem he smashed Steinitz, Pillsbury and Tchigorin. But before that, Lasker had terrific results. In 1890 in Berlin, he defeated Curt von Bardeleben and Jacques Mieses in a match and he and his brother tied for first place in a tournament as well.
