Eine Kette K ist dabei eine durch totalgeordnete Teilmenge von G. Diese heißt nach oben beschränkt, wenn ein a G existiert mit x a für alle a K. Allgemein gibt es zu jedem b G ein maximales Element m mit m b. Diese Weisheit habe ich (woher denn sonst?) vom Internet heruntergezogen. Aber nichts ist perfekt - und das Internet schon gleich gar nicht. Das genannte Lemma stammt nämlich aus dem Jahr 1935, ist also über 60 Jahre alt. Ein leider deutlich längeres und viel weniger anspruchsvolles Zornsches Lemma wurde vor etwa 6 Monaten erfunden - aber nicht von Max Zorn, sondern von Werner Zorn (siehe PIK 1998, Heft 1). Das neue Lemma lautet: "Deutschland verschläft das Internet" oder anders formuliert: "Lerne klagen ohne zu leiden". Das zugehörige Manuskript ist reichlich mit seltsamen Cartoons garniert, die der Autor in Auftrag gegeben und vielleicht sogar bezahlt hat. Die Veröffentlichung des Artikels erfolgte unter der Rubrik "Internet", sie hätte aber ebensogut unter "Beschimpfung von DFN-Verein, Telekom und OSI-Bettlern" laufen können. Die Teilnehmer diverser Kongresse sind bereits früher in den zweifelhaften Genuß der stammtischartigen Zornschen Thesen gekommen. Der Beifall des überwiegenden Teils der PIK-Leser ist Werner Zorn wohl gewiß - ebenso wie die Tatsache, daß nur wenige Beiträge eine ähnlich große Leserschaft erreichen werden. Aber rechtfertigt das die Vergleiche der deutschen Kommunikationstechnik mit der Lagerungspraxis für russische Gülle? Oder effekthaschende Zitate, nach denen Deutschland im internationalen Vergleich angeblich jede Woche einen Monat zurückfällt?

Extractions: Things I have seen recently John Zorn - Masada String Trio, Bar Kokhba, Masada. There I was siting in the front row of a packed auditorium for about three hours, listening to the various musics of John Zorn. It was quite obvious that the audience was divided as to what 'music of John Zorn' they had come to hear. I personally was there to hear John Zorn playing the saxophone with the rhythm section made up of Joey Baron on drums and Greg Cohen on Bass, along with Dave Douglas on Trumpet. Playing what half the audience would probably call 'noise'. But sadly this lineup only appeared in the third set. The first two sets consisted mainly of Jewish inspired works with Mark Feldman (Violin), Erik Friedlander (Cello) and Greg Cohen together making up the Masada string trio . Then added to that; Marc Ribot (Guitar), Cyro Baptista (percussion) and Joey Baron to create Bar Kokhba These two sets consisted of some amazing playing by all the musicians, but unfortunately being basically stuck in one key with the same virtuosic string players doing most of the soloing, over the same and what became slightly uninspiring 'Klezmic' rhythmic cycle, I felt my attention shifting away from the music. But don't get me wrong, the music was beautifully crafted and with John Zorn sitting cross legged on the edge of the stage conducting the players using a series of hand signals. It would be very difficult not to accept what he has done to the shape of classical / traditional music.
