Excerpt: Ion Negoiescu (Romanian pronunciation: ; also known as Nego; August 10, 1921 February 6, 1993) was a Romanian literary historian, critic, poet, novelist and memoirist, one of the leading members of the Sibiu Literary Circle. A rebellious and eccentric figure, Negoiescu began his career while still an adolescent, and made himself known as a literary ideologue of the 1940s generation. Moving from a youthful affiliation to the fascist Iron Guard, which he later came to regret, the author became a disciple of modernist doyen Eugen Lovinescu, and, by 1943, rallied the entire Sibiu Circle to the cause of anti-fascism. He was also one of the few openly homosexual intellectuals in Romania to have come out before the 1990san experience which, like his political commitments,...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8235050 ... The topics examined in this volume include many areas of general topology (various types of topological space, generalized topological structures, classes of mappings, etc.) with special emphasis on the application of methods of modern set theory. Some questions of algebraic and differential topology such as homotopy theory, shape theory, cobordism theory, etc. are included as well. Applications of topology in analysis, algebra and other disciplines illustrate the efficacy of topological methods. ... Read more

E...http://booksllc.net/?l=fr ... Read more

Product Description
Reports of recent research are collected in this volume. The largest part of the book is a section on ordinary and partial differential equations, which presents new methods, and research on error behavior and convergence of known methods. Other sections examine linear algebra, applications, and nonlinear equations and optimization. Another chapter collects papers on interpolation, approximation, and moment problems, and also included is a survey of the linear algebra and differential equation parts of a commercial program package. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great edition of the Appendix
This book contains Bolyai's Appendix in English translation and Latin facsimiles, discussion of hyperbolic geometry, historical background, and, most importantly, a useful paragraph-by-paragraph commentary to the text. The broken English only adds to its charm. Bolyai of course begins by redefining the concept of parallelism to allow for its hyperbolic meaning. Then comes the construction of the horosphere. Consider a line l and all its right asymptotic parallels (i.e., for each point, the rightmost of all the parallels through that point). Pick a point A on l, and include one point B from each other line m, chosen so that AB makes equal angles with l and m. In Euclidean geometry, of course, this construction gives a line or a plane respectively as the construction is carried out in the plane or in space. Not so in hyperbolic geometry. The result of the construction is now a horocycle or a horosphere. Because the angle of parallelism decreases the further we move from l (there are "more" parallels), we have to keep turning to the right to satisfy the criteria of equal angles. The horosphere is obtained by rotating the horocycle about l and so it can be considered to have horocycles as its "lines", and we now show that when two such lines l,m are cut by a third line such that the interior angles on one side is less than two right angles then l,m will meet on that side. Thus geometry on the horosphere is Euclidean, granting us familiar ground in an unfamiliar universe, and we utilise this point of attack to prove that the geometry on a hyperbolic sphere is in fact ordinary spherical geometry. From here we can transfer the analytical machinery of spherical geometry to the the hyperbolic plane. This substantial tool allows us to show, in particular, the crowning theorem that the area of a hyperbolic triangle is proportional to its angular defect, which has the wonderful corollary that the circle can be squared in hyperbolic geometry. ...
