Product Description
There I stood, hiding next to the vending machines, disguised as a potted plant. I brushed the plastic leaves from my face and stared down the hallway toward the front double doors. Snow Cone always said one day this ridiculous costume would come in handy. Fifteen minutes had passed since the last student left for the buses, but I wasn t about to take any chances. Not with my life hanging in the balance. Leaning forward, I peered around the corner just as the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Was this it? Could this be him? Was I about to be pulverized by Hambone while wearing an emergency disguise I had just pulled from my locker?Hashbrown Winters and his treehouse club of buddies are well known around Pordunce Elementary, especially after Hashbrown s seminar last year on how to give the best show and tell performances... er, presentations. But when Hashbrown accidentally crosses Hambone Oxcart, the death dealer of Pordunce, he ll need more than just the support of his friends to survive Hambone s wrath.Join Hashbrown, Snow Cone, Whiz, and the rest of the gang in Frank Cole s hilarious debut novel of the trials and tragedies of fifth grade life. The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters will keep kids and parents alike laughing out loud, groaning in sympathy, and turning pages until well past bedtime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hashbrown is a Tasty Treat
I had no idea what to expect from this one when I picked it up, only that the cover brought me back to those Saturdays of my youth watching cartoons. The book follows the exploits of "Hashbrown" and his fellow elementary school pals who all have descriptive nicknames.I found myself chuckling and smiling at the zany situations they found themselves in and was impressed with the author's imaginative flair. In which other book does the character seek help from the elementary school mafia boss, or seek advice from a person trapped in a locker for seven years?

It is a quick, fun read rife with fifth-grade style humour, and I would recommend it.It looks like it is turning into a series. The second book is already out and I hear the author is making headway on a third book.I only hope someday that we get the zany cartoon version that my kids could watch on Saturday morning.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good debut. Fun little kid book.
Cole has set up a story about a bunch of elementary schoolers who all have nicknames for one reason or another. It's a vibrant tale about bullies and babes, crises and clubhouses, and above all, adventure. Hashbrown Winters is a kid who crosses paths with the school bully and ends up on a hit list. He'll try everything to save his own skin, including trading his prized marble to the school mafia for their protection.

The story takes place in a suspended reality, making it feel like it really comes from an elementary schooler's perspective. There's no "Oh, well I imagined it this way," or "In reality this is what happened..." No. Cockroaches talk, kids stay trapped in lockers for years, and the Italian kids take over the teachers' lounge and run a casino out of it.

It's a quick, fun read. If there are more, I'll probably read them.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters
Such a fun, laugh out loud story, the whole family enjoyed it.This adventure is amusing with great teaching moments of loyalty and friendship.Great for upper elementary age who can relate to the highs and lows of the life of a fifth grader.Really enjoyed this entertaining book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!
This was a great book which I enjoyed immensely. The cover drew me in immediately.Frank is a great story teller, and keeps the reader guessing as to how the "cockroach conflict" is going to be resolved.Besides Hashbrown, my favorite character is the Oracle.I keep wondering how he moves around behind and underneath the lockers.Makes me want to go to that school and put his skills to the test.A must read for every grade school child, or adult who thrives on child novels!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny Book!
This book kept me laughing all night. The characters are interesting and funny. It is a perfect book for my nine year old. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dispute Redolution
I bought the book new and received it very fast.It is a very detailed book yet not as informative as I would have thought. It has more appendices and sitings which makes following it a little difficult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Text
This is a complete and superb text on dispute resolution. It is both introductory and sophisticated. It can be used for an introductory class in ADR in law schools or other university settings. It contains the leading articles and texts of the dispute resolution literature as well as the important documents of mediation and arbitration.Throughout the book are problems and applications. The fifth edition is improved over the last editions but still retains the beneficial attributes of the earlier editions.Because it contains a variety of the leading texts, it would be recommended over the individualized texts from a certain negotiation philosophy. This textbook would not be recommended to a lawyer needing a very quick and how-to guide in preparation for a mediation (see Mediation Representation by Abramson or something similar instead), as the text is comprehensive.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars PON at Harvard Law Hit Another Home Run
Detailed and concise at the same time?Yes, this book will be a great guide and reference as I travel across the dispute resolution landscape.Leading scholars and practitioners share useful ideas and concepts. The book is laid out well and easily searchable from the TOC or the index. It's easy to read and understand. This book is essential for all helping others to resolve their disputes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for scholars and practitioners of ADR
A wonderful text book for those working or studying in the field. This book is written for law students and some chapters are drier than others, so beware that it doesn't read as easily as some other ADR texts.

Each topic is analyzed from multiple perspectives, accompanied by quotations from experts with distinct backgrounds (attorneys, professors, mediators, professional negotiators, judges depending on the chapter) that explain various points of view.

Each chapter is broken down into sub-headings, for example the Mediation chapter includes sections on the process, the role of the public, social science assessments, regulation and enforcement, and professional responsibility. Each of these sections is further elaborated into narrower topics.Peppered throughout the text, you will find thought-provoking questions that probe your own opinion on a particular situation.

Slightly dry for the novice interested in mediation as a side-job or hobby, but for those who really want to learn about the legal, ethical and practical issues in all types of ADR with real-life and fictional examples, this book can't be beat.I have found something fascinating and insightful on every single page so far. ...
