Simply the best
I work for a bilingual newspaper in Puerto Rico and this is by far the best Spanish/English dictionary I've ever encountered. Concise and linguistically modern, this dictionary will save you plenty of momentary confusion.

Should have bought this sooner
This would have saved me a headache or two. It gives the pronounciation from both sides of the language and gives extensive word usages throughout.

Este diccionario, renovado y puesto al dia por Mariano Velazquez de la Cadena, quien fuera Profesor de Español en la Universidad de Columbia, es, a mi juicio, la obra mas sobresaliente en su categoria. Este es un diccionario sin par, con una increible y acertada riqueza de vocabulario contenida en una encuadernacion esmerada y cuidadosa. La calidad de sus paginas es excelente, y el hecho de ser el mas exhaustivo y avanzado trabajo de referencia que hasta nuestros dias yo haya visto, todo esto en conjunto, hacen de esta obra de referencia bilingue una obra fundamental y un verdadero clasico. A wonderful fantasy for those who can read Spanish
As a gringo residing in Mexico and travelling often to other parts of Latin America I find myself reading lots of newspapers and magazines in Spanish, but novels can prove a bit challenging. This book, however, is an easy read for anyone with a basic understanding of Spanish. The author is a Spaniard and it is set in Madrid, but even if you have never been there, the language and references to places are no barrier to following the story-- or stories.

The book follows its main theme throughout, although there are at least three stories presented. All the stories coincide and inter-relate and all have to do with the idea of compatability, mutual attraction, relationships between people-- and, in the most fanciful section-- the relationship between shoes.

Una obra maestra para nuestra epoca
Yo compre este libro durante una visita a España pues estaba en la lista de "bestsellers". No habia oido del libro anteriormente. Que experiencia fue el leerlo! Es una historia inolvidable con la cual todos nos podemos relacionar en nuestras propias historias. El tema central del libro-- las consecuencias de nuestras acciones-- es muy poderosa. Nos recuerda a todos que el curso de nuestras vidas y de las personas que nos rodean pueden ser afectadas drastica y permanentemente por una decision tomada en un momento de debilidad o egoismo. Es un gran libro que causa mucha refleccion. Me encanto como el autor entrelazo la vida de dos desdichadas mujeres con la suya pues atrapa al lector y aumenta el interes en la historia al pasar cada pagina. History and Conquest of Peru from Inca point of view.
Account translated from a manuscript that was only discovered in the 80's. It records the descent of the Incas from the creation of the world through the conquest by the Spaniards. The focus is kept on the Inca's (kings) and their ceremonies and conquests from one of their descendents (whom the author used as his source), who also lived through the conquest. This is a good book to read after reading Discovery and Conquest of Peru, recently published, since you get behind the thoughts of the Spanish in the one and the Incas in the other.
