A grown up book for adult intermediates
"El desorden de tu nombre" is a good read, thought provoking, good comentary on the state of the contemporary mind, and universal. If you are a North American and you think that only the French and the English speaking have neurotic mindsets and affinities for worrying themselves to a frazzle over who we 'are', then this novela will be a surprise. It's the first contemporary Spanish novel I've read and I'll be reading more from this series. It's good intermediate to advanced Spanish reading; so much better than reading Spanish translations of American novels.

Very good, one of the best of this author
As I'm spanish, I won't use english. Este es uno de los libros de este autor que más me ha gustado. Tambien he leído "tonto, muerto, bastardo e invisible", "Letra muerta" y "Papel mojado", y creo que este es una de los más destacables. No solo es la historia (no del todo original, lo admito), sino la forma de contarla, la forma de combinar realidad y ficción, la forma que tiene este autor de a partir de un hecho que todo pensamos normal crea una ficción que sobrepasa los límites. Además, uno de los grandes atractivos del libro son sus relatos. Este autor nació para ello, y se puede observar claramente en el libro. El comienzo de un viaje excpecional
Desde que leí por Las enseñanzas de Don Juan primera vez y por esas casualidades de la vida, podría decir...quedé fascinada, tanto que por un lado me moría leerlo pero por otro lado era como una especie de dolor terminarlo ya que al cerrar ese libro era como cerrar ese mundo. Es por eso que al recién leer todos los comentarios publicados aquí y encontrar esa misma sensasión en cada uno que escribió siento una inmensa alegría. La verdad que los diversos libros de Castaneda me ayudaron a abrir un poco la cabeza y a desarrigarme un poco más de todo lo que no tiene sentido. Mis saludos para todos, Gaby.

Controversial time period brought vividly to life.
Boy, whose button did this author push? I was intrigued by this book's subject and decided to read it until I saw an early on-line review at this web site. Then a woman friend of mine who read the book told me it was a must read for anyone interested in this fascinating time period. Well I did and I loved it. Acoma is as much about survival as it is about Conquest. I found the characters real and engrossing. While I know enough about the history of the time period to appreciate the historical detail, this is really a story about how people deal with and mold the historic fabric of their lives. This novel pulls no punches and that may upset some. But, make no mistake. The Spaniards entered the New World as an army of conquest and they dealt ruthlessly with those they encountered. Acoma offered, for me, a rare glimpse into the personal side of life in those times. Messy, filled with intrigue, cruel and harsh? Yes, but life usually is. My thanks to the author for taking me back so vividly to those times. Will you love this book as I did? Obviously not all did. I guess you'll just have to read the book for yourself and find out.

savage and depressing
This book is full of cruelty and savagery and broken lives. I was sorry I bought it and now I'm sorry that I've read it. It will be hard to get these images out of my mind. This is not a book I will keep and I wouldn't want to pass it along to anyone either.

Acoma - A historical romance novel?
While I'm only three quarters of the way through this book, it seems hard to imagine this is historical, but perhaps it is? The main theme that runs through book so far is the continual affairs of the heroine, her preoccupation with her guilt, more sex, more guilt, sex, guilt, sex guilt etc. Perhaps if I trusted some historical premis, the book would be more interesting, but I found the book extrememly slow moving, repetitive and dull for the most part. ...
