This collection of the original papers of one of the pioneers of black hole and big bang theory is an excellent compendium of work on the subject.It shows the development of the theory, along with various co-authors,such as Penrose, Hartle, Gibbons, etc., from 1970 to 1992, during whichmost of this theory was developed.He discusses various possible quantumstates as well as topologies of the universe and their possible outcomes interms of its evolution in time.Highly technical, for the specialist only,not the general public, as were some of his other books.

Back in 2000 I was in an AT class and this was one of our textbooks, needless to say things have changed in the AT world and I was so happy to find this updated version, I hope that it is upgraded again soon. I realized how full of information it really is. Easy reading not difficult for anyone.

not what i expected at all.the only thing useful for me were perhaps some of the sources, which i could mostly find online.i have chronic pain, and this book was mainly written for people who are blind, deaf, or missing fingers, etc.i wouldn't recommend it.

The Euclidean approach to quantum gravity was initiated almost 15 years ago in an attempt to understand the difficulties raised by the spacetime singularities of classical general relativity which arise in the gravitational collapse of stars to form black holes and the entire universe in the Big Bang. An important motivation was to develop an approach capable of dealing with the non-linear, non-perturbative aspects of quantum gravity due to topologically non-trivial spacetimes. There are important links with a Riemannian geometry. Since its inception the theory has been applied to a number of important physical problems including the thermodynamic properties of black holes, quantum cosmology and the problem of the cosmological constant. It is currently at the centre of a great deal of interest.
