Pierre Humbert naît en 1848 au sein d'une vieille famille originaire de lorraine dont un membre fut anobli au XVIème siècle par le duc Charles III. Grands propriétaires fonciers parisiens, les Humbert possédaient notamment les terrains sur lesquels le baron Haussmann créa ce qui devint à sa mort le boulevard Haussmann. Devenu célèbre en France et en Europe pour ses réalisation d' immeubles, hôtels particuliers et lieux publics à Paris et dans d'autres capitales telles que Bruxelles, il fut amené à diriger plusieurs travaux de restauration de lieux prestigieux tels que celui du château de Malmaison et de nombreux autres châteaux européens. Il travailla notamment pour son ami le prince de Caraman-Chimay, les Berthier, Montesquiou-Fézensac,la maison de Bourbon-Lignières et les Schneider. Pierre Humbert contribua ainsi à donner à Paris, et notamment au XVI arrondissement, son visage actuel. Adepte d'un style néoclassique, il se place dans la continuité des travaux du baron Haussmann. The first aim of this book is to present all techniques devoted to non-invasive normal or diseased skin measurement. As opposed to current books which present novel methods of investigating the skin, it embraces old and new validated techniques, for all skin suborgans and functions.
